The film that earned over $2 billion at the box office is set to make a few more extra pennies with the announcement that it will return to theaters on October 3, 2025, for a "One-week limited engagement." Honestly, it shouldn't come as a shock with James Cameron's franchise, considering that the first Avatar film had re-releases leading up to the arrival of The Way of Water. What's interesting is whether, with the second film making a brief comeback, a♉ny secret extras will be added alongside it.

Given how close the film will be re-released to Fire and Ash (which is set for release on December 19, 2025), fans already speculate that Cameron might be kind enough to give us a lengthy look at the impending threequel that promises to be even more explosive and action-packed than the first two films. Well, the clue i🐲s in the tit💫le, after all.

澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Following the events of The Way of Water, Jake's family is left in tatters after the death of their eldest son, Neteyam (Jamie Flatters). The next chapter in the Avatar story will introduce our heroes to the Mangkwan clan, or "Ash People," led by Varang (Oona Chaplin), who aren't as friendly to Jake ⛄as other tribes have been in the past. As Cameron told about the new instalment, "One thing we wanted to⛄ do in this film is not be black-and-white simplistic. We're trying to evolve beyond the 'all humans are bad, all Na'vi are good' paradigm."

You'll have to see if we get a peek behind the curtain at what's in store with the Avatar franchise on October 3 when Avatar: The Way of Water returns. In the meantime, why not reminisce over the director's career highlights and check out James Cameron's best moments here.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> Director Michael Ba🌠y has shared that he and James Cameron have been discussing the state of the movie industry.

"I just had a conference call with Jim Cam🌞eron and we were both commiserating about Hollywood," Bay told . "No one can greenlight anything anymore. I☂t's just so slow. It's a very different business.

"During Armageddon, those were the days," he continued, referring to his '98 disaster movie. "We had Jonathan Hensleigh, the writer. We sat down for two or three weeks. We had the NASA guy come into my office. We worked out this 20-minute pitch. We go into [former Walt Disney Chairman] Joe Roth's office. This would be my third movie. And Joe, he's like a rܫeal old time, cool studio executive. He goes, 'That's going to be my July 4th movie. I want to name it Armageddon.' We walk out and we're looking at each other. 'Did he just greenlight that movie?' That doesn't happen now. But that's how it used to happen."

Both Bay and Cameron are legendary directors in their own right,ౠ so if even they are thinking times are tough, then it's a pretty good indic💯ator of how much the industry has changed over the past few decades.

Bay is debuting his new parkour documentary We Are Storror at SXSW Film Festival, while next up for Cameron is Avatar 3, which he recent🏅ly confirmed "will aꦓctually be a little bit longer" than Avatar: The Way of Water.

The Avatar 3 release date is December 19, 2025. That's three years after Avatar: The Way of Water, and 16 years after the first Avatar. The threequel has been delayed nine times total, pushed bac༒k 10 years from its original 2015 release date.

Avatar 3 trailer: when will we get one?

With the movie still almost a year away, we're unlikely to get a trailer for Avatar 3 for some time yet. The first Way of Water teaser debuted in May 2022, so we can expect Avatar 3 to follow a similar timeline and drop a trailer som𒈔etime this early summer.

The first trailer for Avatar 3 did 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:play behind ༒closed doors at CinemaCon, however, to raves from the audience.

Avatar 3 plot

Avatar: The Way of Water

So far, not much is known about the Avatar 3 plot just yet. The main thing we know is that we're going to be introduced to the Ash People, AKA the Mangkwan Clan. They're led by Varang, played by Oona Chaplin. "Varang is the leader of a people who have gone through an incredible hardship. She's hardened by that," 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:director James Cameron told . "She will do a𒆙nything for them, even things that we would consider to be evil."

"One thing we wanted to do in this film is not be black-and-white siꦉmplistic," he added. "We're tryi🌠ng to evolve beyond the 'all humans are bad, all Na'vi are good' paradigm."

As for what that hardship might be, production designer Dylan Cole has dropped some h𝓰ints. "[The Mangkwan] had a natural disaster befall them, and that sort of helped shape their 🅠culture," he told . "So much of the world of Pandora is rich and vibrant and full of life – this is just the exact opposite. They used to live not too dissimilarly to the Omatikaya from Avatar༺ 1." You can see the first look at the Mangkwan's Ash Village below.

The Ma🦩ngkwan were originally going to be introduced in Avatar: The Way of Water, but they ultimately decided to leave it for the threequel.

"In a nutshell, we had too many great ideas packed into act one of movie 2. The [film] was moving like a bullet train, and we weren’t drilling down enough on character. So I said, "Guys, we’ve got to split it.'," Cameron 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:told Empire.

Cameron also teased that 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查ꦉ询:the movie wꦐill go to some unexpected places. "We're just starting to riff on it ෴and twist it and turn it," he . "It's a tricky thing. We could be getting high on our own supply here, and everybody who looks at it goes, 'Fuck, that's not what I signed up for.' But if you're not making brave choices, you're wasting everybody’s time and money. That alone is not sufficient to create success, but it'ജs necessary. You've got to break the mold every fricking time."

A first look at Neytiri has also been unveiled by Empire magazine, with Cameron calling Zoe Saldaña 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:"incandescent."

One thing it seems is for certain is that the movie won't contain any generative AI. An attendee at a Q&A event with Cameron in New Zealand 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:shared the following on Twitter: "James Cameron revealed that Avatar: Fire and Ash will begin with a title c𒐪ard after the 20th Century and Lightstorm logos that 'no generat♏ive AI was used in the making of this movie'."

We also know that the length will be akin to The Way of Water, since Cameron has teased that the runtimes will be simi✱💞lar, but Avatar 3 is set to be a little bit longer. That means the threequel could be 🥃over three hou𓂃rs and 12 minutes long, though nothing has been confirmed just yet.

First reactions to the movie have been extremely positive, too, 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:according to the director. "I've shown it to a few selected people and the feedback has been it's definitely the most emotional and maybe the best of the three so far," he told . Plus, Disney CEO Bob Iger has called an early cut 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:"absolutely breathtaking."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> Avatar 3 is going to take us beyond the mo𝓡ral paradigm seen in the franchise so far, director James Cameron has teased൲.

A new look 💫at the Ash People, AKA the Mangkwan Clan, has also been revealed by , which depicts their leader Varang, played by Oona Chaplin. Check it out below.

"Varang is the leader of a people who have gone🏅 through an incredible hardship. She's hardened by that," Cameron told the magazine. "She will do anything for them, even things that we would consider to be evil."

"One thing we wanted to do in this film is not be b꧑lack-and-white simplistic," he added. "We're🉐 trying to evolve beyond the 'all humans are bad, all Na'vi are good' paradigm."

澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Cameron has previously teased that the Ash People won't be all that nice, and we can expect in Avatar 3 to see "different cultures from those I have already shown. The fire will be represented by the 'Ash People.' I want to show the Na’vi from another angꦡle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides.

"In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na'vi examples," he continued. "In Avatar 3, we will do the opposite. We will also explore new worlds, while continuing the story of the main characters. I can say that the last parts will be the best. <![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar: The Way of Water was a blockbuster epic that blew us – and the box office – away when it debuted back in 2022, so it should be no surprise that the sequels sound to be just as impre⭕ssive.

Zoe Saldaña, who plays Neytiri in the 🍬movies, shared a tease about the upcoming sequels with , and it has us very hyped.

"It's going to be amazing," she revealed. "Avatar 3, it's going to be amazing, and Avatar 4 and 5, it just gets crazy. It's true. It really does. He's blown our mind. This is his legacy project. We all thought it was Titanic, a💟nd it turned out that Avatar is𝓡 his legacy, and for us to be a part of something so groundbreaking and trailblazing, it's like it's a legacy for us, too. So I'm excited to go back. We go back to work next week, so I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone."

Unfortunately, the Avatar sequels have been subject to a꧑ series of delays, so Avatar 3 isn't arriving until December 19, 2025. Avatar 4, mean🎶while, is coming on December 29, 2029, and Avatar 5 is slated for December 19, 2031. That's a seriously long wait, but, judging by Saldaña's words, it'll be worth it.

Back before The Way of Water released, Cameron teased that 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar 3 will feature a new type of Na🃏'vi. "The fire will be represented by the 'Ash People.' I want to show the Na'vi from another𒐪 angle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides," he teased.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> James Cameron has shared some new updates about Avatar 3 – and the film sounds wild in 🍒the best possible way.

Speaking to , Cameron revealed that the threequel would feature a major time skip. "We did the capture on three and the live-action photography on three as an intermingled production with [澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar: The Way of Water], and we even did part of movie four because ou🀅r young characters are all going to have a big time jump in m💃ovie four," Cameron said.

He added: "We see them and then we go away for six years and we come back. And so the part where we come back is the part we haven't shot yet. So 🦹we'll start on that after three is released."

While Avatar 3 is 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:introducing a new🐲 type of Na'vi, it will also feature plenty of familiar faces. One of those is Kate Winslet's Ronal. It seems we should never doubt Winslet's dedication to a role, as, after learning to holꦍd her breath for over seven minutes for Avatar 2, ♕she immersed herself in her cha🀅racter once more for the threequel.

According to Cameron, Winslet "went to school" to learn from "a husband and wife shaman practice," so she could study techniques for the thi🌃rd movie. "When you seeꦐ her [Winslet] doing that purification ritual to try to revive Kitty in the film and some of the stuff that she's going to do in movie three, that's based on actual practice," he commented.

We were already excited to head back to Pandora, but now we're even more excited about what Cameron has in store for us.

Avatar 3 arrives on December 19, 2025. It doesn't yet have a title, with producer Jon Landau debunking a popular rumor♋ about its official name

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> Avatar producer Jon Landau has debunked a long-ru𝕴nning rumor about the title of the upcoming threequel.

Back in 2018, revealed that the four Avatar sequels would be titled: The Way of Water, The Seed Bearer, The Tulkun Rider, and The Quest for Eywa. Obviously, The Way of Water proved correct – and Tulkuns feature heavily in the movie. Director James Cameron also told back in 2019 that the leaked titles "are among titles that are in consideration. And no final decisions haꦉve been made yet."

It's understandable, then, that many thought Avatar 3 would be titled The Seed Bearer. According t🌠o producer Jon Landauꦡ, though, that's not the case.

"I'm qualified to tell you that that is not the title for Avatar 3," Landau told at an Avatar: Frontiers of Pando♈ra event. "That's what my Wikipe🌃dia page says? That is getting changed tonight!"

Avatar 3 is set to arrive on December 19, 2025, which is qui🔯te the lengthy wait. For now, not much is known about the threequel, either, although it has been revealed that i🍬t will feature a new type of Na'vi: Ash People.

"In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na'vi examples," 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:director James C🅷ameron said ಌback in December 2022. "In Avatar 3, we will do the opposite. ♏We will also explore new worlds, while continuing the story of the main characters. I can say that the last parts will be the best. The others were an introduction, a way to set the table before serving the meal. But, obviously, everything will depend on how Avatar 2 is received, if it finds its audience."

Avatar 2 more than found its audience, going on to gross over $2 billion and becoming the third highest grossing movie of all time (behind 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avengers: Endgame and the original Avatar).

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> The third installment of director 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:James Cameron’s smash hit 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar is finally in post-production, but it looks like there's a long road ahꦛead before we get to return to Pandora again.

At an industry conference in New Zealand documented by , Cameron revealed what stage 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar 3 is at. "We’re into a very hectic 2 y𒉰ears of post-production right now," the director confirmed. "So it will be Christmas of 2025.”

Earlier this year, it was announced that Avatar 3, which was originally set to hit theatres in December 2024, had been moved on a year to December 2025. The♑ fourth and fifth movies have also been moved on three years each, meaning that the series will continue until 2031 at the earliest.

The news came as a bit of a shock as fans were expecting the third movie sooner since it was filmed alongside the sequel, 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar: The Way of Water. However, Disney did not give a reason for the delay. The good news is that the production team now has two whole years to focus on the stellar CGI and SFX we h🙈ave come to expect from the Avatar movies, although judging by Cameron's "hectic" comment, the road to the finish line may not be so smooth.

The upcoming movie remains untitled, but we do know that it will 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:introduce two new Na'vi cultures incl♐uding a fire tribe, just as the first movie focuses on the forest-dwelling Na'vi known as the Omaticaya and the second film looღks at the Metkayina tribe who live on Pandora's coast.

to announce that the film has been remastered in 4K, and is set to hit theaters in December. "If you haven't seen the film before, this is the way to experience it," Cameron said. "And if you have, you'll be seeing the film I actually set out to makඣe." The re-release will contain some "big surprises" not seen in the original release version.

The Abyss, Cameron's first ocean-centered film, follows a US search and recovery team tasked with recovering an American submarine in a race against Sovi🦋et vessels. Down in the depths of the ocean, however, they find something else entirely. The cast includes Ed Harris and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio formerly married petroleum engineers and Michael Biehn as a gung-ho Navy SEAL. Leo Burmester, Todd Graff, Kimberly Scott, John Bedford Lloyd, and Chris Elliot also star. Alan Silvestri (Predator, Forrest Gump, Cast Away, The Avengers) provided the score.

The film hit theaters on August 9, 1989, and grossed $90 million against a budget of $43 million. <![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> Arnold Schwarzenegger has revealed that James Cameron wasn't 🔯really a fan of his Terminator𓃲 2 ideas.

Speaking at a panel ahead of an Academy Museum of Motion Pictures screening of Terminator 2, Schwarzenegger shared that he had his own thoughts on where his character should head in the Termi🔥nator sequel.

"The reason w🍬hy it became a big hit was, number one, Jim Cameron. Jim Cameron is a genius writer. He came up with this brilliant idea, even though at the beg൲inning I was suspicious," Schwarzenegger said (H/T ). "He said 'I want to make you a good Terminator.'"

Schwarzenegger wanted to beat his kill count in the first movie, however. "I said 'What do you mean a good Terminator?' I was killing 68 people in the first one," he🦄 commented. ꦿ"In the second one I have to kill 150. We go up! Cut their throats and shoot them with a cannon and run them over with a car.' I had to outdo [Sylvester] Stallone. I said that my whole mission was being number one at killing amounts of people on screen."

Luckily, though, Cameron was set on his own plan. "He said 'Arnold, stop it. You're a very sick guy. I am gonna mak꧒e sure that in Terminator 2, you're not gonna kill one single person,'" Schwarzenegger recalled. "I said that's the stupidest thing I&apos🃏;ve ever heard. How can this be Terminator 2 without me killing anyone? At least throw a few token bodies in there."

Schwarzenegger has also recently said the Terminator movies predicted the 💎future with the rise of AI. "Now over the course of decade🤡s, it has become a reality," he said. "So it's not any more fantasy or kind of futuristic. It is here today. And so this is the extraordinary writing of Jim Cameron."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar: The Way of Water introduces plenty of new characters, and one of them is Jack Champion's Spider, a young human boy who hangs out with his adoptive Na'vi🎶 family.

Since the blue Pandorans are brought to life via motion capture, that meant combining Na'vi and humans w෴as particularly difficult – and led to Champion giving his entire performance twice over, two years ap🍸art.

"Well, the beauty was, we got to do it twice," director James Cameron told . "So Russ [Carpenter, cinematographer] would light the scene, so everything that we did with Jack photographically, we did previously with him in terms of capture. So, Jack did his entire performance twice, once for all the o🍌ther actors like Sigourney [Weaver] and Britain [Dalton] and Sam [Worthington], so that he was there kind of off camera."

The time to actually film Chꦍampion's scenes didn't come until two years had passed. "He was like 13 at the time. And then later when we shot, he wa🔴s 15, so he changed in size and vocal range a bit, but we capped him and then we had these capture scenes," Cameron added.

Avatar 2 has already become one of the highest grossing movies of all time, and there are multiple sequels on the way – in fact, there will be five Avatar films in total. The third Ava꧟tar movie is set to intr❀oduce a new type of Na'vi, according to Cameron.

"The fire will be represented by the 'Ash People.' I want to show the Na'vi fr🍌om another angle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides♐," he revealed.

Speaking to (H/T ), the Avatar director addresse𒅌d the possibility of watching the൲ sequel away from cinemas.

"If you watch Way of Water at home on a reasonably large flat screen TV with a decent sound system, and you sit close enough and th🐬at way across the room, you're going to have a good experience," Cameron stressed.

🅰Whatever you do, though, don’t watch it on your phone –🐎 or anything else with middling speakers. Jim won’t be happy.

"When you start looking at something on a phone, you're sort of missing the 🌱point," he said. "Going to a movie theater is less about the size of the screen and the perfection of the sound system. And it's more about a decision to not multitask."

So, there you have it: a good sound system and a "reasonably large" TV are a must. The Way of Water, though, is still going strong at the box office, 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:grossing almost $2 billion and becoming one🍒 of the most successful movies of all time.

A third Avatar movie, currently untitled, is planned for December 20, 2024. The threequel will not only 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:feature new types of Na’vi, but 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:also a new narrator: Lo’ak (Britain Dalton). <![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is looking to push the technologiꦯcal envelope forwards, just like James Camer🌳on's movies.

GamesRadar+ recently spoke to Magnus Jansén, creative director of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, about the ambitions of Ubisoft's new game. "The time has been spent on building a brand new part of Pandora and creating the tools needed to bring it to life on the latest generation of console and PC hardware," Jansén says 𒐪of Avatar's jour💦ney so far.

"At the heart of this effort is Snowdrop – our g🐷ame engine. When we first met with Lightstorm (the James Cameron-led production company), S𓃲nowdrop is what showed to our partners that we were willing to push the envelope of technology, just like they do in the films. It was and still is the key foundation of our ongoing collaboration," the creative director continues.

Ubisoft Massive, the studio in charge of the Avatar game, has long been working on the technolo🌳gy for the new game, with the project being in production for at least five years.✅ During this time, Jansén says Ubisoft Massive has been continually learning from and collaborating with Lightstorm Entertainment and Disney.

Right now, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is set to launch in Ubisoft's next fiscal year, arriving at some point before March 31, 2024, telling the story of Pandora before the time jump seen in 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar: The Way of Water. <![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> There are few fantasy worlds as alluring as Pandora. So captivating that it helped propel Avatar and 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar: Way of the Water into becoming two of the biggest movies of all-time, having grossed no fewer than four billion dollars between them. Yet for all its success, this realm has remained a closely-guarded commodity within Disney and Lightstorm Entertainment – ripe for further exploration, with precious few attempts made to expedite its expansion. Until now, that is. Director James Cameron has three sequels in production, and Ubisoft has 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora – which may just be one of the ꦺbiggest games of 2023.

Developer Massive Entertainment has spent the past five years transforming Pandora into a playground. While the films may have given us the opportunity to live vicariously through the Na'vi, this upcoming action-adventure video game will let us embody one. "One of the most exciting challenges has been to build a living and reactive world inhabited by unique creatures and new characters – a never-before-seen part of Pandora that players will explore while playing as Na’vi," says Magnus Jansén, creative director of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. "But thanks to the close collab💞oration with the teams at Lightstorm Entertainment and Disney, we got to learn from the best."

The studio, who is best known for engineering 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:The Division and its 2019 sequel, has been entrusted with b💙uilding the western frontier of Pandora – a space that is yet to be explored on the big screen. That's sure to be a lot of pressure, but Jansén speaks positively about the process. "One of the great things about working with Lightstorm and Disney is that it's a very collaborative experience with all teams involved. The collaboration and involvement have been very consistent, positive, and always productive. The result is a partnership, with a freeform exchange of ideas between two parti🔯es looking to bring to life the same universe, through different mediums, and enhance the immersion for fans."

That immersion will be rooted in the world of Pandora itself. You should expect to find a lush open world waiting for you in Avatar: Frontiers♛ of Pandora, one which will allow us to explore everything from grand vistas through the clouds to the dense jungles that litter the ground. A living and♈ reactive play space awaits, where characters will wield an acute understanding of the world state – tracking everything from time and weather to player progression, and the havoc Resources Development Administration (RDA) forces are unleashing on Pandora's natural beauty.

The blues

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is an ambitious undertaking, particularly for a studio that established itself as the premiere architects of digital urban sprawls. But Jansén tells us that Massive Entertainment&a🌊pos;s long-standing commitment to pushing technological boundaries with the Snowdrop Engine, which has powered its pursuit of Pandora since The Avatar Project was first unveiled in 2017, gives all involved parties confidence that it can pull this off.

"The time has been spent on building a brand new part of Pandora and creating 𝓰the tools needed to bring it to life on the latest generation of console and PC hardware," says Jansén. "At the heart of this effort is Snowdrop – our game engine. When we first met with Lightstorm, Snowdrop is what showed to our partners that we were willing to push the envelope of technology, just like they do in the films. It was and still is the key foundation of our ongoing collaboration."

Ubisoft is yet to reveal Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora gameplay, although an in-engine teaser released in 2021 revealed a pretty substantial shift from what we've come to expect from Massive. The team is responsible for some of the best third-person shooters of the last generation, but this PC, PS5, and 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Xbox Series X effort wi♑ll see the studio tackle a first-person experience – where we will experience stalking through denseꦅ brush with a bow in-hand, and soaring on the back of our very own banshee through the eyes of a Na'vi.

Jansén explains that experimentat💙ion has always been at the heart of Massive, and that he's keen for players around the world to see what the studio can do as it pushes into a new genre. "Well before The Division, Massive made RTS games. So, it's in our DNA to jump to new genres when our passion leads us there, and the world of Avatar convinced us. Ever since the first film came out, everybody fell in lov🥀e with Pandora, this place full of wonder and danger which is the ultimate call to adventure. Our goal has always been to allow people to finally get to go there and be immersed in that world, feel it, and interact with it – and there was no better way to do so than first-person."

This standalone story, set before the time-jump in Avatar: Way of the Water, is scheduled to release in Ubisoft's next financial year – which falls between April 1, 2023 and March 31, 2024. It's guaranteed to be a video game that defines the conversation around the publisher this year, whether that's because we merely receive a look at the game in action or finally get the opportunity to sit down and play Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora for our🥃selves.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar: The Way of Water has overtaken 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Top Gun: Maverick🎉 to become the🎃 highest grossing release of 2022 and the 12th biggest movie ever.

The film is James Cameron's follow-up to 2009's Avatar, itself the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:highest grossing movie of all time, and picks up several years after the events of that movie, with Jake and Neytiri now parents. Once again, though,🐲 the villainous RDA threatens their peaceful existence on Pa🌟ndora.

Per , Avatar 2 has topped $1.5 billion worldwide (once January 4's numbers are accounted for), which just clears Maverick's $1.489 billion. The Way of Water reportedly needed to make $1.4 billion to break 🍃even, which means the film has hit that milestone.

The Avatar sequel 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:debuted to wildly mixed reviews and an 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:opening weekend below predictions, but clearly momentum has been on the film's side. The Way of Water has no major blockbuster competition until 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania releases on🌳 February 17, too, sꦏo there's still plenty of time for the film to draw in movie-goers.

The film is just one of many sequels planned for the franchise – there will be five Avatar movies in total. Cameron has teased that 澳洲幸🐓运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar🌳 3 will feature a new type of Na'vi. "The fire will be represented by the 'Ash People.' I want to show the Na'vi from another angle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides," he revealed. "In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na'vi examples. In Avatar 3, we will do the opposite. We will also explore new worlds, while continuing ꦅthe story of the main characters. I can say that the last parts will be the best. The others were an introduction, a way to set the table before serving the meal. But, obviously, everything will depend on how Avatar 2 is received, if it finds its audience."

With The Way of Water's impressive box 🅺office, we can assume the franchise will continue full steam ahead.ꦿ

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar: The Way of Water is continuing to dominate the box office after its fourth weekend of release. The long-awaited se💫quel has now gross🧔ed over $1.4 billion globally, setting it on pace to become one of the biggest movies of all time.

The movie has achieved $444 million at the US domestic box office and $956 million internationally. This means it's closing in on becoming 2022’s biggest release, as it nears 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Top Gun: Maverick’s $1.48 billion haul at thꩵe box office. Per , the movie’s break-even point is also around $1.4 billion, meaning the sequel should have hit – or be about to hit – that target.

The Way of Water opened initially to m🐎ixed reviews and a 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:slightly mut𝔍ed first box offiꦛce weekend. However, love for James Cameron’s return to Pandora has been steadily growing since then, landing th෴e movie an audience score oౠf 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The sequel picks up a decade after the first movie as Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zo💙e Saldaña) are forced away from their home ♛to protect their children. However, despite settling with an underwater community on the other side of Pandora, trouble isn’t far behind as they must battle to stay alive.

Cameron has already filmed the third movie in the Avatar franchise, as well as some of the fourth movie. The director explained he had done this to avoid "the Stranger Thinಞgs effect" of child actors being much older than their characters. 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar 5 is also in the works, meaning that t𒆙here’s plenty more Pandora on the way.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> James Cameron has urged Matt Damon to let the fact he turned down the lead in Avatar go. The 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Good Will Hunting actor was offered a part in the original movi🧔e as well as a slice of the movie’s profits.

"I was offered a little movie called Avatar, James Cameron offered me 10% of it," Damon s🅷aid at the Cannes Film Festival (H/T ). "I w🧸ill go down in history. You will never meet an actor who turned down more money."

He was the original choice to play Jake Sully in the movie before it went to actor Sam Worthington. Damon had to turn it down because he was com𝕴mitted to the Jason Bourne movies, and didn’t want to leave the franchise in the lurch.

Cameron has now jokingly addressed the comments in an interview with . "He’s beating himself up over this," the director said. But he had to do a꧟nother Bourne film which was on his runway and there was nothing we could do about that. So he had to regretfully decline."

Cameron is still open to the idea of casting Damon in an Avatar sequel. "We must do it," he continued. "We have to do it so the world is in equilibrium again.💃 But he doesn’t get 10%."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> The second Avatar movie iꦺsn’t all about The Way of Water. Another liquid – a mysterious yellow substance – is found during the latter half of James Cameron’s sequel. Confusingly, it’s only mentioned once and never again – despite having huge ramifications for Earth and its humans.

So, what gives? And why should we be focusing on it now? Here’s what the yellow liquid is in 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar: The Way of Water – and why Amrita could be so important to the future 🐭of the franchise.

What is the yellow liquid in Avatar: The Way of Water?

After hunting the mother Tulkun to draw out Sully, the RDA, along with Scoꦰresby, enter the Tulkun’s mouth after it’s been captured by the fishing vessel. There, Scoresby reveals what they do next: drill into the creature’s brain to extract a yellow liquid known as amrita.

Scoresby explains that the liquid is, essentially, an elixir to "completely" stop human aging and is the most valuable substance known to man. However, the status of that particular yellow liquid is unknown follo🐼wing the events of The Way of Water – though Spider does ask why more of the Tulkun isn’t used for the liquid. The Tulkuns, it seems, wiꦜll be rich for mining – and that could be a story for another day.

So, what next? The Way of Water has briefly addres✱sed Earth’s status – it’s dying and Pandora will be used as the first stop on the frontier for humanity. The amrita will likely be involved in a battle for resources once more humans make their way to Pandora to settle there, especially with the fate of humanity far less s🥀ecure than it has been previously.

Inevitably, that means♕ conflict would be on the horizon. Given their unique and close bonds to the whale-like Tulkun, it is unlikely that the Metkayina clan will allow humans to go resource hunting for their own Fountain of Youth. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the threequel (or Avatars 4 and 5) revolve around attempts to collect more amrita – and the efforts to stop the humans and conserve Pandora’s oceans.

It’s already been confirmed, meanwhile, that we’ll head to Earth in ꦫthe fifth Avatar movie. So expect Earth-Pandora relations to potentially reach a new low if a war erupts over the vaꦜluable Tulkun liquid.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> A lot has changed since the first Avatar shook up the industry back in 2009. We’re now in the age of streaming – with many moviegoers expecting some of the biggest and newest releases to be available on streaming service mere months after their world pre🌼mieres.

James Cameron, though, has always done things differently. And we expect that to be the case again with 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar: The Way of Water eventually finding its home on 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Disney Plus. Join us below as we dive into all the possibilitiౠes surro♓unding the Avatar sequel’s streaming release date – and what other blockbusters can tell us about when it’s coming to Disney Plus.

When is Avatar: The Way of Water coming to Disney Plus?

As of right now, we simply don’t know. But we have a few ideas. Post-COVID, new releases have typically been placed on streaming services around 45-60 days after hitting theaters. There are, however, some outliers. Marvel Studios’ output have taken up to 70 days to hit streaming, while recent Disney release 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Strange World is being fast-tracked on to Disney 🀅Plus after just 3ಞ0 days.

These aren’t likely to factor into Avatar: The Way of Water’s streaming plans (which, for the avoidance of doubt, haven’t been announced yet). Instead, we should focus on its closest comparison: 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Top Gun: Maverick.

Avatar 2 and Tom Cruise’s billion-dollar 🌳hit are alike in many ways: they both preach the🐎 importance of the cinematic experience, draw in large numbers across particularly busy seasons, and each will – and did – have long legs at the box office.

Top Gun: Maverick was released on Mayܫ 27, 2022. It won’t hit streaming until December 22, 2022 on Paramount Plus. That’s nearly seven months later – an almo🅷st impossibly long wait in today’s day and age.

We⭕ can e🎀xpect The Way of Water to follow a similar path. There may not be a streaming release date, but we shouldn’t expect the Avatar sequel to hit Disney Plus any time before July 2023.

Given the original Avatar’s absurdly long run in cinemas (almost eight months), it may be nearer to August or September before we see the Sullys on our screens. To speculate further, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a Disne💮y Plus release drop simultaneously with Disney’s D23 event, starting September 8, 2023. Circle that in your calendars, just in case.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> If you’re reading this, you’re either: A) sat in a cinema at the end of 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar: The Way of Water wai𝕴ting for the credits to roll, or B) curious about whether you should stay behind at the end of the Avatar sequel.

We can say it up front: there is no Avatar: The Way of Water post-credits scene to stick around for. But you don’t have to get up and leave straight away. There are some bonus treats for those who want to stay in the world of Pandora for a little bit longer. We discuss it below in our spoiler-free guide.

Is there an Avatar: The Way of Water post-credits scene?

No, but you’re treated to various pieces of gorgeous concept art from Pandora as the credits roll. On top of that, the cast list and credits are also backed by &ap🔥os;Nothing is Lost (You Give me Strength)' by The Weeknd, which is the lead single from The Way of Water soundtrack. But, after three hours in the cinema, you’re🦂 free to go whenever you please.

So, James Cameron has neatly sidestepped any sort of🐽 post-credits stinger to tease any upcoming sequels. There’s no last-minute twist or reve♊al, nor is there any setup for future movies.

Despite that, there is plenty more Avatar on the way. The 𝓡untitled Avatar 3 is arriving in cinemas on December 20, 2024, with Avatar 4 planned for December 18, 2026. A fifth movie, which is heading to Earth, is set for release on December 22, 2028.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar: The Way of Water, James Cameron's long-awaited return to Pandora, has finally arrived on the big screen. Set over a decade after the events of 2009's Avatar, the movie picks up with human-turned-Na'vi Jake Sully ღ(Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) living in domestic bliss with their four children, the war with humanity a distant memory. That is, until the RDA returns – with some familiar faces in tow.

The sequel sees Jake and his family explore the underwater world of Pandora, as they attempt to make a new home with the Metkayina tribe, led by Tonowari (Cliff Curtis) and Ronal (Kate Winslet). The movie's action-packed finale is a lot to take in – in 3D, no less – so you'd be forgiven for having a few questions. We've done our best to answer them, as well as re-capping the climactic🐲 plot points.

Warning: major spoilers for the Avatar: The Way of Water ending ahead, so turn back now if you haven't seen the movie yet and don't want to know aꦍnythin🌱g in advance.

Avatar: The Way of Water ending explained: a recap

The movie's dramatic finale starts with an epic battle between the Met🧸kayina tribe and a group of RDA (Resources Development Adminis🃏tration) humans led by Colonel Miles Quaritch.

Quaritch teams up with Captain Scoresby and his crew of Tulkun poachers to hunt one down near the Metkayina settlement in order to lure out the tribe and therefore Jake. Jake🔯 realizes this is a trap and tries to convince them not to fight.

The Metkayina has informed the Tulkun about the RDA's imminent attack, but Lo'ak, accompanied by the other kids, goes to warn Payakan about ♕the encroaching poachers as Payakan is an outcast and won't have been told by the rest of the herd. While he is out at the Three Brothers🎶 Rocks, he notices that Payakan has already been attacked. Quaritch and co. capture Lo'ak, Tuk, and Tsireya.

A battle ens𝓡ues. Kiri connects to the Spirit Tree and uses her powers to attack a submarine by controlling the marine life with her mind. Neteyam rescues Lo'ak, Tuk, and Tsireya and they go to save Spider, who's still in the clutches of the humans, although doing his best to fight back).

The conflict badly damages the RDA ship, and the humans begin to eva🔥cuate the sinking vessel. After being rescued by Neteyam, Tuk an🌊d Tsireya go back to the ship to find Kiri, who is still on board. However, Quaritch pre-empts their plan and captures Tuk.

Meanwhile, Lo'ak and Neteyam find Spider, and the three escape from the ship – but Quaritch shoots Neteyam and he is badly wounded. Lo'ak and Spider manage to drag him back to their pareꦬnts, but Neteyam dies of his wounds.

Jakes goes back to the sinking ship to save Tuk and Kiri. He manages to free Tuk, but Quaritch has Kir𝓰i at knifepoint. Suddenly, Neytiri appears, holding a knife to Spider's throat – she threatens to kill Spider, telling Quaritch that he owes her the life of his son after he killed Neteyam. Neytiri scratches Spider with the knife, scaring Quaritch, who releases Kiri.

A fight ensues between Jake andও Quaritch on the sinking, burning ship. Meanwhile, Neytiri and Tuk are sucked down below the boat, and Jake becomes trapped with Quaritch. They fight hand to hand and Jake eventually strangles Quaritch who begins to float to the bottom of 🐟the sea.

Separated from Jake and Neytiri, the kids set out to look for their parents. Kiri connects to the Spirit Tree, while Lo'ak swims to find a badly injured Jake. Spider finds Quaritch, who is about to drow❀n, and decides to save him after hꦡe stopped Neytiri harming him.

Just when things are starting to look desperate for Neytiri and Tuk, the water around them becomes illuminated and Kiri appears. She has a pair of wings with her that allow prolonged underwater breathing, which she gives to Neytiri, and then leads her and Tuk out of the sinking ship. Lo'ak c𝓰oaches Jake to help him hold his breath underwater and leads him out of the boat wreckage. Payakan is waiting outside and helps them out of the water, and the family is reunited.

Meanwhile, Spider drags Quaritch out of the water and he offers to take Spider with him. Spide refuses, and Quaritch flies away on an Ikran. Spider reunites with the Sullys. Neteyam gets a sea b🐈urial at the village. The Sullys plan to move on elsewherꦐe. Jake and Neytiri connect to the Metkayina's Spirit Tree and see visions of Neteyam, both in flashbacks to his childhood and now. Jake vows to stop running and take a stand against the RDA to protect his family.

While there are plenty of unnamed casualties in the final, climactic battle of Avatar: The Way of Water, the only major character to meet a tragic end is Neteyam, Jake and Neytiri's oldest son. Colonel Quaritch shoots him when he and Lo'ak are rescuing🌼 Spider from the RDA ship, and he dies from his injuri💦es shortly afterward.

The Sully family 🎃gives Neteyam a sea burial in the Metkayina tradition. His body is sent to the bottom of the ocean where it's absorbed into෴ a seabed of anemones. As Tsireya says earlier in the movie, "the way of water has no beginning and no end," and Neteyam's water burial sees him become one with the energy of Pandora.

The surviving Sullys – Jake, Neytiri, Lo'ak, Kiri, and Tuk, with Spider in tow – are set to move on from the Metkayina tribe. The ✃movie ends with Jake's voiceover saying that he's learned the best way to protect his family is to fight rather than run, so it looks like we may see them return home to the forest in Avatar 3 to face the RDA head-on.

What's going on with Kiri? What are her powers?

Sigourney Weaver in Avatar: The Way of Water

Kiri is the biological daughter of the avatar of Dr. Grace Augusti🎃ne and she was adopted by Jake and Neytiri after Grace died in the first movie. She doesn't know who her father is – could his identity explain her mysterious powers? There's some Anakin Skywalker-syndrome going on here.

When Kiri connects to the Metkayina Spirit Tree, she is able to control other things in the ocean – in the ♈battle against the RDA, she is able to control marine wildlife with her mind to attack a submarine, as well as using her powers to save her mother and sister. She is also able to hold her breath underwater for much longer than her siblings. When she's attached to the tree earlier in the movie, she has a seizure, and human scientist Norm tells Jake that he thinks she may have epilepsy. Kiri, on the other hand, thinks she has a connection to Eywa, the Na'v🔴i deity.

Did Colonel Quaritch survive?

After Quaritch and Jake fight amidst the sinking ship, it looks like it might be the end for Quaritch – Jake strangles him until he passes out, and his body begins to sink to the ocean floor. However, Spider grabs hold of him and swims to the surface with him, dragging him out of the water. Quaritch regains consciousness and flies away on an Ikran, so we definitely haven't seen ꧋the last of Jake Sully's nemesis.

What's next for humanity?

Avatar: The Way of Water

The Resources Development Administration (RDA) r🌊eturns at the start of Avatar: The Way of Water with the intenti🗹on of colonizing all of Pandora to make it humanity's new home, as Earth is on the brink of becoming inhabitable. They have built a walled city called Bridgehead on Pandora, and everything humanity is doing is being funded by Amrita, a valuable substance being harvested from the Talukun that stops humans from aging.

Although the RDA who attacks the Sullys and the Metkayina were defeated in the movie's final battle, there are still plenty more left military personnel at Bridgehead, so we haven't🌃 seen the last of humanity on Pandora.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar: The Way of Water reviews are in – and they're wildly mixed as it seems no one can agree on James Cameron's follow-up tꦰo the groundbreaking original.

The new film arrives 13 years after the first Avatar and sees the likes of Kate Winslet and Edie Falco join the cast, while returning actors include Zoe Saldaña, Sigourn✨ey Weaver, Sam Worthington, and Stephen La🍎ng.

Reviews for the film range from low to high scores, but a common thread seems to be that, while the movie's visuals are spectacular, the plot✅ is lacking. We've rounded up a selection of reviewsꦫ below to give you an idea what critics are saying about Avatar: The Way of Water.

Total Film – Kevin Harley – 4/5

"The stop-start plotting is also slightly problematic, with some characters and their struggles seemingly vanishing for stretches. Yet when the plot strands converge for the climax, Cameron channels previous career highs into a blast of full-bore, high-stakes spectacle, reminding you who’s in charge. T2's tech, Titanic's watery horror show, Aliens' child peril, The Abyss🐻' weird wonder: it's all here, maximized for tension, action, and emotion. When the flames clear, some dangling story strands leave more questions than answers. But three follow-ups are planned… Even at three hours-plus, Cameron's comeback leaves you ready for more."

– Owen Gleiberman

"This tale, with its bare-bones dialogue, could easily have served an ambitious Netflix thriller, and could have been told in two hours rather than three. But that's the point, isn't it? The Way of Water is braided with sequences that exist almost solely 🍰for their sculptured imagistic magic. It's truly a movie crossed with a virtual-reality theme-park ride. Another way to put it is that it's a live-action film that casts the spell of an animated fantasy. But though the faces of the Na'vi and the MetKayina are expressive, and the actors make their presence felt, there is almost zero dimensionality to the characters. The dimensionality is all in tಌhe images."

– Clarisse Loughrey – 3/5

"Avatar: The Way of Water is, once again, a gauntlet thrown down at the feet of the industry. I can't say that I cared all that much about its story, its themes, or its characters, but its unimpeachable effects work made it feel like I'd locked eyes with the future. It's an achievement of such technological clarity that I'd instantly buy any flatscrꩵeen TV that was showing it in Currys. The plot, if anything, is an inconvenient distraction from the real p♏leasure of looking and guffawing."

– Peter Bradshaw – 2/5

"Drenching us with a disappointment that can hardly be admitted out loud, James Cameron's soggy new dig💙itised film has beached like a massive, pointless whale. The story, which might fill a 30-minute cartoon, is stretched as if by some AI program into a three-hour movie of epic tweeness."

– David Rooney

"In terms of narrative sophistication and even more so dialogue, this $350 million sequel is almost as basic as its predecessor, even feeble at times. But the expanded, bio-diverse world-building pulls you in, the visual spectacle keeps you mesmerized, the passion for envir🥂onmental awareness is stirring and the warfare is as visceral and exciting as any multiplex audience could desire."

– Kyle Anderson – 2.5/5

"So, for days now since I saw the movie, I&𒅌a𝓡pos;ve fought with myself. Is Avatar: The Way of Water a movie I would call 'good?' It certainly has a lot to recommend on the filmmaking side of things. It really is an overwhelmingly beautiful movie to look at. But as a story, as characters you can attach yourself to, it's very two-dimensional. It works much more as a theme park attraction, a journey to a world of wonder and grandeur. But then we have a great deal of unfortunate stereotypes and graphic (though fake) violence."

– Todd McCarthy

"Many scenes, above and below the waterline, 🏅are stunningly unlike anything you've ever seen before; humans, wildlife, water and nature, often in beautiful sync with one another, at other times in conflict, are gorgeous and play an important role in the overall impact of this long (192 minutes), occasionally indulgent but pioneering film that excites by bringing something to the screen that has never been seen in quꦜite this way before."

– Liam Crowley – 5/5

"With an abundance of theatrical treats over the past decade, the magic of Avatar (2009) has been somewhat overlooked. If there was any doubt, James Cameron reminds audiences exactly what he's capable of. Words don't do Avatar: The Way of Water justice. While this𝄹 film has all the makings of a once-in-a-life🐷time theatrical experience, audiences should relish in the fact that there is much more to come."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> Before he became King of the World, James Cameron was king of the bigger, better, more parentally fraught blockbuster sequel. Even if his long-awaited return to Pandora can’t match Aliens or T2 for focused tanker-weight efficiency, Avatar: The Way of Water cleaves close enough to uphold that reputation. And itꦺ sure leaves Piranha II’s flying fi💛sh standing.

Will it join the $2bn club, as Cameron implies it must?𒆙 We’ll see, but it certainly is a whole lot of flawed but fulsome () "MOVIE-MOVIE": a sometimes surreal, always spectacular sensory hit with an undertow of gentle emotion, an overflow of ambition, and a pleasingly 🍨earnest thematic thrust. It might take multiple viewings to unpick some plot threads… and three more films. But if anyone can mount a case for the repeat-visit cinema experience, Cameron can.

Since most people have visited Pandora before, Cameron wastes little time on scene-setting. The opening parachutes fast into Pandora’s jungle, where gone-total-Na’vi Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) now raise their expanded family. There are their own kids, Neteyam (Jamie Flatters), Lo’ak (Britain Dalton), and Tuktirey (Trinity Bliss). Then there are the adoptees: Kiri (Sigourney Weaver) is the sort-of-child of Grace’s avatar (from the first Avatar), while Spider (𒊎Jack Champion) is a feral human orphaned by war.

Jake believes protecting his family gives him purpose. So when villainous Colonel Quaritch (Stephen Lang) returns in (fully explained) "Recombinant" avatar form seeking "payback" for his demise, the Sully fam seeks refuge among Pandora’s sea clans.♎ Here, Jake helicopters𓄧 over his tearaway brood sternly. But can they run from Quaritch’s new blue marines forever? And isn’t navigating risk an essential learning curve?

While this bare-b⛦ones set-up reflects Cameron’s pulp punch as a writer, his staggering proficiency as a world-builder is also displayed. This time, Cameron leaves little time to pause and admire Pandora’s plant life. The verdant jungle now feels lived-in, alive. Meanwhile, with life on earth barely viable, the RDA (Resources Development Administration) has bigger designs on Pandora. Their base of operations is a small city, where tech upgrades include robo-spidery "swarm assemblers" that construct buildings in days. When the humans land on Pandora, Cameron makes sure you feel the devastation wrought in their wake.

Avatar: The Way of Water

In CG terms, The Way of Water certainly has the WOW factor. Hair and skin glisten, flames and dust motes transfix: 13 years on, Avatar’s spectacle-cinema upgrade has been bested. Yet just as Avatar took time to introduce audiences to Pandora’s groovy wonderland, so the big reveal this time is the reef, home to the Metkayina clan. The ocean world is luminous, tactile, serene. As the 3D visuals glow in sync with Simon Franglen’s chiming score, the sense of weightless immersion in the waters shows a fresh, tender grace in Cameron’s direction. He 𒊎brings respect to the ocean too, not just enraptured love: the waters are alluring and dangerous. And when their occupants are mistreated, the sense of horror is palpable.

While he’s dazzling your eyeballs, Cameron juggles thematic, narrative, emotional, and character strands meticulously. Almost echoing Finding Nemo, Jake’s primal urge to protect his kids establishes danger as a⛎ thematic ♛motif – from the opening monologue on, Cameron treats the theme like a dorsal fin to cling to through choppy plot waters.

Cast-wise, Kate Winslet (as Metkayina clan co-leader Ronal) and Saldana are held back a little too much but Worthington aces the formerly in-training 🦩Na’vi turned training-on-the-job dad. Weaver projects Kiri’s feelings of outsider-dom – and sulky eye-rolls – touchingly through the mo-cap, dissolving the actor/character age gap. Among the terrific young actors, Dalton brings heart to bonding scenes with the whale-like Tulkun, scenes that might otherwise have gone a bit Free Willy. And Champion makes feral work of the Newt-ish Spider, whos🍸e side-plot develops Cameron’s thoughts on family.

The returning Lang adds explosive rage, though it’s a pity his toxic spiel ("science pukes" and so on) rings familiar. Though Cameron spends no time on Avatar refresher courses, he does sometimes lean on known beats. While sea creatures the 'ilus' are rethinks of Avatar’s ikrans, the Sully clan’s water-training reworks Jake’s old Na’vi training. Cameron evꦕen repeaꦑts himself a little within the film: when one character sighs, "Can’t believe I’m tied up again," you wonder if a little trimming might have been advised.

The stop-start plotting is also slightly problematic, with some characters and their struggles seemingly vanishing for stretches. Yet when the plot strands converge for the climax, Cameron channels previous career highs into a blast of full-bore, high-stakes spectacle, reminding you who’s in charge. T2’s tech, Titanic’s watery horror show, Aliens’ child peril, The Abyss’ weird wonder: it’s all here, maximized for tension, action, and emotion. When✃ the flames clear, some dangling story strands leave more questions than answers. But three follow-ups are planned… Even at three hours-plus, Cameron’s comeback leaves you ready for more.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> Kate Winslet has set the record straight on some comments she made about working with James Cameron – specifically that she would never work with him again. The pair first worked together on 1997's Titanic, in which Winslet played Rose and Cameron was in the director's chair. Nearly a quarter of a century later, they've re-teamed for the upcoming sci-fi sequel 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar: The Way of Water.

Bac✱k in 1999, Winslet told : "He has a temper like you wouldn’🍸t believe. You’d have to pay me a lot of money to work with Jim again."

However, Winslet d꧂oesn't stand by those words today. "It’s nearly 27 years since Titanic and I was very young," the actor said on . "ꦕLooking back so much gets twisted. Jim is an amazing man and all the good things I ever said about him were left out so it’s nice to be able to say how extraordinary he is and know people are going to listen this time."

She continued: "How he creates these stories is just mesmerizing and he establishes a working environment th𝓡at is so much fun, really collaborative, and super experimental. It’s an amazing thing to be a part of and I walked away thinking, 'I could do that again, and again, and again.'"

Cameron also recentꦜly addressed Winslet's past comments, telling : "I think𒉰 Kate came out of Titanic a bit traumatized by the scale of the production and her responsibility within it. We’ve both been eager over time to work together again, to see what the other is about at this point in our lives and careers."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> James Cameron has, historically, not had many kind w🌌ords to say about supeꦆrhero movies. However, in a recent interview, he admitted that the increased output of Marvel and other comic book movies since the release of the first Avatar movie in 2009 has helpe𝓰d raise the bar with VFX – but Thanos still doesn't measure up to the Na'vi.

"Obviou🍸sly the big comic book films have been driving the sheer volume of the industry… the rising tide of technique raises everybody together," Cameron told (via ). "It gives you higher quality artists, more tools and plug-ins and code [to use]. You’ve got more talented people writing code out there."

Thanos, the big bad of 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avengers: Infinity War and 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avengers: Endgame played by Josh Brolin, 💯and the Na'vi, the race of blue-skinned aliens in Avatar who live on the planet of Pandora, are both created using motion capture technology. Cameron thinks his creations are superior, though.

He continued: "Our team at WETA Digital is constantly having new hires, and it’s coming out of that pool. So it improves everything. That said, WETA Effects, as it’s called now, is the best. Right? Industrial Light & Magic does great work, but when it comes to the kind of emotive facial stuff that we’re doing… Thanos? Come on. Give me a break. You saw [Avatar: The Way of Wateꦛr]. <![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> Animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender had to change its original title thanks to James Cameron’s Avatar, according to the series director. While the show began a🍒iring in 2005, more than four years beforওe Avatar opened in theaters, Cameron already held the rights to the name.

The animate❀d series focuses on𒁏 Aang, an Avatar who can bend all four elements and serves as a bridge between the physical world and the spiritual world. Giancarlo Volpe, who directed 19 episodes of the show, shared insight into the title issues on .

"In 2004 we learned that we had to change the name of our show from 'Avatar' to 'Avatar the Last Airbender' because James Cameron already had the rights to a🌃 movie 🃏called Avatar," he wrote (H/T ). <![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> Aliens, the follow-up to 1979's Alien, is one of best sequels in movie history, with many cl🐠aiming it's even bet💝ter than the original. However, its star, Sigourney Weaver, wasn't originally keen to return as Ellen Ripley.

James Cameron, who took over the directing reins from Ridley Scott for the sequel, therefore resorted to deception to get her on board – and pretended he was going to rewrite the movie's script with Arnold Schwarzeꦗnegger as the lead.

"I called up Lou Pitt, Arnold [Schwarzenegger]’s agent, and I said, 'Lou, we’re kind of over this. So, we’ve decided that we really like the story and all the Marine Corps characters and the world we’ve created and everything. And really, we’ve thought about it, and we really just don’t need Sigourney,'" Cameron told . "I’ve created all these characters, and my prid🎃e of authorship tells me I should go ahead with this, and we’ll just cut her out of it, and we’ll just cut her character out of it. We won’t recast it; I’ll just rewrite it. So, I’m going to start on that tonight."

However, Cameron was never going to remove Ripley from the script – it was all a bluff to get Weaver on board. "Now, did I have any intention of doing that whatsoever? No, not at all," he continued. "But I happen to know that Lou is at the same agency as Sigourn🌸ey’s agent, who was in New York. And I knew that the second he hung up with me, he called him and said, 'Sign Sigourney now.' And guess what? The deal was done in 12 hours after that. So, I never wrote a word of that hypothetical story that I said I was going to do, that I had no intention of writing anyway. Anyway, it worked, and Sigourney got her million bucks, and everyone was happy."

This ruse evidently worked, and Weaver not only starred in Aliens but also Alien 3 and a fourth installment, Alien Resurrection. Weaver and Cameron recently re-teamed for another sequel: 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar: The Way of Water, which arrives in theaters on December 16. According to , the long-awaited sequel is likely to open to at lea🐬st $150 million in the US, with a chance the total could reach up to $175 million.

When it was released back in 2009, the first Avatar movie made $77 million on its opening wee𝔉kend in the US (although Variety notes that a major snowstorm may have affected figures). <![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar: The Way of Water’s runt𒀰ime has seemingly been confirmed, and it will be one of the longest 🍒movies of the year. Per , Avatar 2 will be 192 minutes – or three hours and 12 minutes – long.

This makes it 30 minutes longer than the original movie, which was 162 minutes when it was first released in 2009. In an exclusive interview with 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Total Film magazine, which features Avatar on the cover, 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史♛查询:Ja♚mes Cameron explained the lengthy runtime

"The goal is to tell an extremely compelling story on an emotional basis," he said. "I would say the emphasis in the new film is more on character, more on story, more on relationships, more on emotion. We didn’t spend as much time on relationship and emotion in the first film as we 🥂do in the second film, and it’s a longer film, because there’s more characters to service. There’s more story to service."

Despite running for over 3 hours, Ava💙tar 2 still won’t be Cameron’s longest film to date. Titanic still holds that record at 194 minutes long.

The long-awaited sequel to Avatar picks up with Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Ney'tiri (Zoe Saldana) as they raise their family in Pandora. However, a war against humans wages 🍬after an ancient threat resurfaces.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Avatar: The Way of Water has been a long time coming. Despite the extended period between movies, though, James Cameron is barrelling forward with his vision for Pandora's future. In fact, the director currently has an additional three s🍌equels in the works, taking us all the way to Avatar 5.

However, whether the series continues long into the future remains to be seen; should The Way of Wat🀅er not make a splash at the box office, then the next sequel could be a hastened finale. "The market could be telling us we’re done in three months, or we might be semi-done, meaning: ‘OK, let’s complete the story within movie three, and not go on endlessly’, if it’s just not profitable," Cameron tells , featuring Avatar 2 on the cover.

With a reported budget of $1 billion (yes, with a 'b') for all four Avatar sequels, reconnecting with a cinema-going audience is vital – easier said than done when the film industry has gone through a tectonic shift over the last decade. "We’re in a different world now than we w🐠ere when I wrote this stuff, even," Cameron says. "It’s the one-two punch – the pandemic and streaming. Or, conversely, maybe we’ll remind people what going to 🍨the theatre is all about. This film definitely does that. The question is: how many people give a shit now?"

If Cameron’s instincts are still on the money – and his track record would suggest he’s rarely wrong – it’s likely that plenty of people will find they still give a shit. After all, if any filmmaker knows how to pull off a superlative second instalment, it’s the man behind Aliens and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. "The key to a sequel is to be surprising in ways that are not off-putting," C🧸ameron explains. "To reconnect with the familiar that was fun and good, and that caused the first film to be a hit. But doing it in a way that’s unexpected, or that t💙akes you someplace that’s unexpected."

And the filmmaker still backs himself to make Avatar 3. "There are a couple of things that Iꦫ took out [of The Way Of Water] that I want to shoehorn into movie three, hopefully," he continues. But, he admits: "These are hideously expensive movies. It was a sketchy business case before the pandemic to make a movie that cost this much. At this point, we just have to play it 𓂃out to see what happens. But what I know right now is: we’re delivering three hours of a pretty much insane experience."

That's just a snippet of our huge interview with Cameron, along with his cast and fellow creatives, featured in (and digital devices) this Thursday, November 10. Meanwhile, Avatar: The Way of Water opens in cinemas on🍨 December 16.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Disney Plus subscribers are no longer able to watch Avatar on the platform after the streamer removed James Cameron's 2009 sci-fi epic. The movie is set to be re-released in theaters on September 23 ahead of the release of Avatar 2 (officially titled Avatar: The Way of Water), so it is suspected that this𝄹 was done to encourage more people❀ to see the movie on the big screen.

Avatar's re-release hasn't been confirmed as the reason that the movie has been pulled from the streamer, but🍷 the timing makes sense as a possible🧔 explanation. Avatar was on Disney Plus as Disney acquired the movie's studio, 20th Century Fox, back in 2019. The sequel will be released under the Disney-owned 20th Century Studios.

Avatar: The Way of Water is set to explore the underwater world of the fictional planet Pandora an෴d will focus on the Sully family – several years have elapsed since the events of the first movie and former marine turned Na'vi Jake (Sam Worthington) and Na'vi princess Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) are now parents. The cast of Avatar 2 also includes big names like Vin Diesel, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Edie Fꦐalco, and Michelle Yeoh. Three more sequels are set to follow in 2024, 2026, and 2028.

The awards show has been going for more than 90 years, which means there are a whole host of incredible movies that have been nominated and won over the decades. And given the 2025 ceremony is now just around the corner, some movies like Emilia Pérez and The Brutalist will also be hoping the join the hallowed list.

Below, we've come up with an ultimate guide🥃 of the best Oscar-winning movies that have been released over the years, and that should be on your watch-list. From classics like Casablanca, to modern masterpieces like Moonlight, our selection is eclectic. This should hopefully mean that there's something on their for whatever you fancy.

As we wait to find out who's joining the list of Oscar winners this year, we look back in time to round up the best of the best Oscar-winning movies of all time, according to the Gam🍷esRadar+ team. So, for the essential list, keep reading.

25. Titanic (1997)

Titanic

(Image credit: Twentieth Century Studios/Paramouܫnt Pictures)

James Cameron's epic holds a record-tying 14 Oscars nominations; it ultimately won 11, including✨ Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Song for James Horner and Celine Dion's ear-worm ballad 'My Heart Will Go On'. We scarcely need to tell you what the film is about, co🌄nsidering its mark on pop culture – who doesn't know the story of Jack and Rose at this point?

Titanic will make you laugh, sob, and watch through your fingers as those star-crossed lovers go from a passionate forbidden romance to a harrowing fight for survival as Titanic sinks. One part beautiful love story and one part white-knuckle disaster movie with spectacular effects, it's no surprise that Titanic is so iconic. For more on the film, check out our interview with Cameron t꧂o mark Tit൩anic's 25th anniversary.

24. Oppenheimer (2024)

Oppenheimer

Christopher Nolan's epic Oppenheimer i♉s the most recent winner in this list, and its spot is well deserved. Besides the Academy Award for Best Picture, Cillian Murphy picked up the Oscar for Best Actor for his stunning performance, with the movie winning a total of seven Oscars. The story focuses on the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer as he helped develop the first nuclear weapons during World War II, and was later haunted by the consequences of his creation.

With♏ outstanding supporting perf♛ormances by Robert Downey Jr. and Emily Blunt, Oppenheimer is a must-watch Oscar winner, and one of Nolan's best.

23. West Side Story (1961)

West Side Story

Is West Side Story the best musical of all time? Since its release, plenty of competitors have emerged, but there's something infectious about the sheer energy of the movie. A Romeo and Juliet story told in New York City's west side through the medium of song and dan⭕ce – its as fun as you might expect.

Think Grease but with way smoother collar-poppin'. Plus, afterwards, you won't be able to stop clicking your fingers and telling👍 people to . No wonder Steven Spielberg wanted to remake this classic.

22. Unforgiven (1992)

Unforgiven

You know how it goes. A cop on the verge of retirement is dragged into a life-changing case on his last day. Clint Eastwood's 1992 western, Unforgiven, takes that idea and yanks it through the dust and grime of Big Whisky, a small town th🐈at's witnessed some heinous activities.

At the top of his game, both in front and behind the cam♊era, Eastwood gives one of his best performances as the grizzled – is he ever anything else? – William Munny, an outlaw who returns to finish one last job. It's still a surprise that such a dark, violent fable managed to bag the Oscar.

21. Moonlight (2016)

Moonlight

There are few movies as heart-wrenching as 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Moonlight, a movie split into three distinct acts, each one focussing on a different time period in the main character's life. With three different actors portrayin𝄹g Chiron/Black/Little, this could have been a tonal mess. But under Barry Jenkins' masterful touch, each one works in perfect tandem with the other.

The result is perhaps the ꧋most emotional Oscar winner of the 21st century. Watching Chiron come of age while struggling to comprehend his own sexuality is heartbreaking. Then there's his strained relationship with his mother, played beautifully by Naom🎀ie Harris. Have tissues on standby.

20. Amadeus (1984)

Amadeus

Still lingering over Milos Fo🅰rman's film is the small matter of accuracy. What actually went down between Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his noted rivals? Was it really this soap opera-ish? It's not the first biopic to dally with the truth, and that shouldn't make a difference when the movie itself is 🌱this much of a majestic experience.

Tom Hulce tackles the part of the classical composer, displaying lots of restraint considering Mozart's reputation as a larger-than-life character. 🍎Miloš Forman's direction is also excellent and makes this almost three-hour movie bre𓆏eze by.

19. The Hurt Locker (2009)

The Hurt Locker

Before playing Hawkeye in the MCU, Jeremy Renner played William James in Kathryn Bigelow's Iraq drama, 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:The Hurt Locker. As a war-savvy vet, Renner's Sergeant First Clas👍s heads up an explosive ordnance disposal team in Baghdad, 🌃eventually going off-mission to seek revenge for the murder of a young boy.

It's through his maverick and often dangerous methods that the mov🃏ie opens up its larger theme; how conflict truly affec🦋ts soldiers. Plus, it's the first Best Picture winner directed by a woman.

18. On The Waterfront (1954)

On The Waterfront

Based on the real-life story of a New Jersey whistleblower, this tale of corruption at the docks made Marlon Brando, one of the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:greatest 50s stars, into a bona fide star. He also bagged his first Oscar as longshoremaꦡn Terry Malloy, a conflicted soul who stands u𒀰p against the mob-controlled union despite his own shortcomings.

Sure, he's most fondly remembered for The Godfather, but this put him on the map. The movie also earned director Elia Kazan his second Os🧸car and introduced Eva Marie Saint to the world.

17. No Country For Old Men (2007)

No Country For Old Men

One of the Coen brothers' most ambitious efforts, 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:No Country for Old Men plays like an updated western, ripe with dark, seedy undertones setting the scene for one hell of a 🍒mystery. Seeing as this is a Coen film, the story is told through the experiences of a regular Joe who opts to 🍸completely ruin his life.

Josh Brolin plays Llewelyn Moss, the man in question, who discovers a bag of cash and decides, "I'll keep it! Why the hell not?" Javier Bardem's bolt gun-wielding psychopath Anton Chigurh🦹 answers that question for him, as one of cinema's most menacing and fearsome villains.

16. The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957)

The Bridge on the River Kwai

David Lean directs this excellent World War Two movie, reimagining the brutal enslavement of Allied prisoners forced to build the Burma railway. Alec Guinness' British Colonel encourages his soldiers to help t🦂he Japanese with the bridge as a way of boosting morale, while a fellow Brit pushes William Holden's American officer to destroy the bridge upon completion.

Being one of the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best war movies ever made, it exposes the truth behind Japanese Prisoner of War camps, and how thin the line between heroism and loyalty rea🦋lly is. Guinness is excellent as the Brit with the stiff upper🅺 lip, giving an all-time great performance.

15. Rocky (1976)

Rocky

Sylv🍸ester Stallone wrote his breakout role in Rocky. Like his on-screen counterpart, he too rose like the Philadelphian underdog who dreams of boxing in the heavyweight championship.

Rocky became the highest-grossing of the year, bagging $225 million, and turned Stallone into a global star. From his determination to succeed to his ambitious, post-montage air-punch at the top of the museum steps, you can't help but root for Rocky to bag that title. Check out our 2007 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:interview with Sylvester Stallone where he talks about the making of Rocky.

14. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (2003)

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

There was no way the Academy could ignore some of the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:greatest fantasy movies, Peter Jackson's Tolkien trilogy. A visually-adventurous tale of Hobbits, Elves, Orcs and – above all – the true strength of fr𓄧iendship, it was a travesty that the previous two movies didn't scoop up awards.

With an A-list cast, attention to detail, and respect towards the source novels, 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Lord of thౠe Rings: The Return of the King benefitted from voters who realized, third t♏ime around, just how groundbreaking this ꦓtrilogy was.

13. It Happened One Night (1934)

It Happened One Night

It Happened One Night was a trailblazer, paving the way for the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best romantic comedies as we now know it. Before Frank Capra's screwbal🍒l caper, there were no amusing scenarios for when couples first meet in movies or ๊scenes where characters dissect their heartbreak with their friends.

All of that stems from the story of Claudette Colbert's hoity heiress, who finds herself torn between two suitors, and goes for the least likely option. It Happened One Night took the conventions of the post-Depression era, when women were in pursuit of financial security, 𒅌and twisted them into something fresh.

12. Midnight Cowboy (1969)

Midnight Cowboy

"I'm walking here!" yells Dustin Hoffman's scam artist as a New York City cab nearly mows him down. It's a scene that's𓄧 so iconic it almost overshadows the movie itself, which is worth noting because Hoffman improvised the line. John Schlesinger's ease for letting his 💯drifter picture go wherever his leads liked is part of what makes it feel so natural.

The story follows Jon Voight's Joe Buck. After leaving Texas for the bright lights of the big city, he turns tricks to make a 🧜living and, along the way, befriends Ratso (Hoffman). The first X-rated movie to ever win Best Picture. By today's ratings, it would be an NC-17 – the UK equivalent of an 18.

11. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Miles Forman's adaptation of Ken Kesey's novel is a classic for a reason. In possibly his best performance, Jack Nicholson plays Randle McMurphy, a wise-cracki♔ng con artist who talks his way into a mental institution to forgo a harsher prison term. He rages against the machine that's run by the evil Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher) and befriends all sorts of folks inside, including a pre-Doc Brown Christopher Lloyd.

It'll uplift your soul and break your heart in equal measure, and the f🅺act that it's so good at doing both justifies every award that's been thrown at One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

10. Gone With the Wind (1939)

Gone With the Wind

A grand, majestic picture that walked away with eight Oscars, Gone With the Wind remains a cornerstone of cinema. That this lush melodramatic tale of romance ♉and injustice during the American Civiඣl War even made it to the big screen remains a mini-miracle.

The movie was beset with problems right throughout its lengthy prꦬoduction, from the hundreds of actresses who tested for the part of Scarlett O'Hara 💖to the sheer quantity of directors who came and went. Adapted from Margaret Mitchell's novel, it's still the most successful movie in box office history when adjusted for inflation.

9. Schindler's List (1993)

Schindler's List

Steven Spielberg's has made dozens of palatable blockbusters out of dozens of mismatched topics. Aliens, spies, and robots – you name it, Spielberg's p❀robably made a movie about it. For Schindler's List, the filmmaker tackles a more serious subject than normal, crafting an evocative, powerful movie based on a historical event that saw 6 million Jews senselessly murdered.

Despite garnering negative attention while making the movie, 💙Spielberg nevertheless chose to focus his mov🦋ie on the 600 people who survived the Holocaust thanks to Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson). It's unashamedly a Spielbergian take on things, putting the spotlight on the decency of man even in our darkest hours.

8. The Apartment (1960)

The Apartment

Well-known at the time for screwball comedies, Billy Wilder tried something new with The 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Apartment. It became an instant game-changer – a pioneering example of what Hollywood could gꦺet away with.

Jack Lemmon stars as Bax🅠ter, an insurance agent who lets his office pals use his apartment to entertain their mistresses, all the while struggling to find love himself. that is, of course, until he meets Shirley Maclaine's whip-smart elevator oper🌠ator, Fran. It's her performance that's the real turning point. She's full of biting wit and self-deprecating one-liners, yet still brings an edge of darkness to Baxter's humdrum life.

7. The French Connection (1971)

The French Connection

Dom Toretto's crew have got nothing on the petrolhead prowess of Gene Hackman in The French Connection. 𝓀As Detective Jimmy Doyle he might pursue justice behind the safety of a badge, but there's nothing remotely by-the-book about his swaggering determination.

Tasked with bringing down a ring of heroin smugglers in New York City, he embarks on one of the best car chases ever filmed. The unrelenting demands of director William Friedkin saw a large portion of the city's subway shut down for the scene, in which Hackma❀n's cop hurtles around the streets in his Pontiac to purs🍌ue his train-bound target.

6. The Godfather (1972)

The Godfather

Based on Mario Puzo꧅'s novel, The Godfather gave birth to the modern mobster movi💮e. Its influence over the entire gangster genre spilled out into real life, with New York City's crime lords taking their cues from the Corleone family.

So much from the movie has been lifted into pop culture via spoofs and parodies: the horse head in the bed, the mutterings of Marlon Brando's wiseguy, and that sweet piece of improvised dialogue, "Leave the gun. Take the cannoli." It's perhaps no wonder that many people regard the movie as perhaps the best movie of all time. Check out our 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:interview with director Francis Ford Coppoꦗla on the lasting impact of The Godfather.

5. Silence of the Lambs (1990)

Silence of the Lambs

Since when did serial killer movies that include poetic cannibals and skin-wearing psychopaths win Oscars? That's what's so impressive about Jonathan Demme's movie. It's rare for a genre movie to win anything, never mind the Best Picture, but 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silence of the Lambs beat its competitors in every single 🌊nominated category.

What clinched it? The dynamite script, utterly haunting score, 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:creepy moments, and mesmerizing turns from Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins? It's all of those things, and that tightly-edited final𝐆 sequence, which remains just as chilling as the stuff you'll see in any horror movie worth its salt.

4. All About Eve (1952)

All About Eve

The double-whammy of Bette Davis as veteran actress Margo Channing and Anne Baxter as her conniving ingenue Eve Harrington is what makes 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:All About Eve still so watchable. The pair are flung toget𝐆her in this timeless story about our resistance to growing old, with Davis' scathing delivery of Joseph L. Mankiewicz's razor-sharp dialogue making this her finest performance.

"Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night", says Channing, ⭕unaware that the perils of ambition without decency might require a little more Dutch courage.

3. Lawrence of Arabia (1962)

Lawrence of Arabia

There are few movies that define spectacle cinema like David Lean's sprawling Lawrence of Arabia, which went on to inspire a generation of filmmaker♉s – notably both Spielberg and George Lucas hold the movie as one of their favourites.

Lawrence of Arabia's cinematography is gorgeous, and Peter O'Toole plays World War One officer T.E. Laurence perfectly, managing to balance both arrogance and heartfelt sympathy for the people the British are invading. Mor♕e impressive than its thousands of extras is the movie's length; at 227 minutes, it remains the longest movie to ever take home the Best Picture trophy. A true epic.

2. Casablanca (1943)

Casablanca

澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Casablanca's the great American movie, with one of the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best movie endings of all time.. A brilliant blend of romance, thriller, and war-torn actioner that has two top-of-their-game actors in leading roles. Whateveജr you want to call it, you can't deny the watchability of Michael Curtiz's World War Two adventure, which sees Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman as two love✨rs who can't be together.

Chemistry like theirs is rarely seen onscreen nowadays, a result of their off-set friendship which also gave the film its most memorable one-liner. ღIn between takes, Bogart would teach his co-star poker, often repeating the phrase, "Heres looking at you, kid" to Bergman out of genuine affection.

1. The Godfather: Part II (1974)

The Godfather: Part II

Themes of loyalty, family, and sacrifice drive home Francis Ford Coppola's second chapter in the Corleone clan's tale. One of the first sequels ever to outdo its predecessor, the movie surges with confidenc♌e. Coppola takes everything that made the first movie jolt moviegoers out of their seats, and ups the stakes.

Part II takes a look back through the early years of Vito Corleone in Sicily, charting his accomplishments before he became the New York City mafioso. Robert De Niro joins the cast as the young Don, alongside Al Pacino in the greatest gangster movie ever made.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> James Cameron has unveiled our first glimpse of Avatar 2 at the CES 2020 trade show. In a series of jaw-dropping pieces of concept 💙art, we’re provided with a new look at the sun-kissed vistas of Pandora as well as some of the animals that will accompany the Na’vi in the 2021 🎀sequel.

The Avatar 2 concept art (H/T ) se✅es a pair of Na’vi – possibly Jake and Neytiri, ജthough it’s hard to say for sure – overlooking an ocean dotted with mini islands. In the distance, the bird-like banshees soar through the air.

We even get a closer l👍ook at a mysteriously-shaped rock, which hints at something man-made having been present on Pandora in the past. If you look towards the water, you’ll even eye a handful of Ilu, the creatures that populate the seas of Pandora.

If there’s anything to take away from the Avatar 2 concept art (other than making us want a beach holiday, pronto), it’s that Cameron and his team are looking to create a rich, dense fictional world like no other. The original Avatar opened our eyes to what was possible with 3D technology – this could be another le🍎ap ent꧃irely.

But it’s not just the flora, fauna, and critters that will stand out in Avatar 2. Cameron told :🗹 “I also love the hard stuff. The vehicles, spacecraft, aircraft, grouꦗnd vehicles, weapons, the hardware. I’m a total geek when it comes to that stuff. We have a lot of cool vehicles for you.”

Two final shots, though, focus on the natural world and see the Na’vi coming in to land on 🎀a flock of Banshee. There’s even a breathtaking night scene to coo over.

Avatar 2

If Avatar 2♍ comes anywhere near to how gorgeous this concept art looks, Avengers: Endgame may not be able to hold on to its box-office crown. We won’t want to ever leave the theater. Avatar 2 is set for release on December 17, 2021.

It's not 2021... yet. Focus on the upcoming year in film with our 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:movie release dates guide.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> In news that shouldn't surprise anyone, 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Stranger Things has just been renewed for a second season which is set to debut on Netflix next year. The 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Stranger Things season 2 announceme꧋nt was accompanied by a nifty teaser trailer, which you caꦑn watch below...

While that teaser is understandably devoid of new footage it does reveal what looks to be the episode titles for season two, which wওill run slightly longer than season one with nine episodes instead of eight; Madmax, The Boy Who Came Back to Life, The Pumpkin Patch, The Palace, The Storm, The Pollywog, The Secret Cabin, The Brain, and The Lost Brother. Make of that what you will...

The Duffer Br♔others (who created the show) also told that season two will have four new characters, while citing director James Cameron as an influence; "I know movie sequels get a lot of s—, but the ones we look up to aspire to pivot and do something different", Matt explained. "There’s Temple of Doom, Aliens, Terminator 2. I guess a lot of this is James Cameron. But he’s bꦯrilliant. And I think one of the reasons his sequels are as successful as they are is he makes them feel very different without losing what we loved about the original. So I think we kinda looked to him and what he does and tried to capture a little bit of the magic of his work".

Finally, while the ܫshow will definitely venture out of Hawkins early on, we will be returning to Things' alternate dimension; "We obviously have this gate to another dimension, which is still very much open in the town of Hawkins", Ross noted. "And a lot of questions there in terms of, if the Monster is dead, was it a singular monster? What else could be out there? We really don’t go in there much until they go in to find Will at the end. So we’ve opened up this doorway, and to us it’s exciting to talk about, like, what else is behind there? There’s a lot more mystery there to be solved".

Something tells me those answers will lead to more questions. We'll find out when ♊season 2 of Stranger Things debuts in 2017.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> The approach has felled others since, but James Cameron’s scaled-up 1986 sequel to Ridley Scott’s shocker makes brilliant work of a brusque formula: preserve what works and multiply. A subtle, spooky movie with teeth becomes a subtlety-bashing war movie.

With Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley and maternal themes thrust forwards, Cameron also aces the horror, using a flashed-up ‘proximity alert’ as his inspired cue for various shockingly sudden close encounters. Factor in some ageless model work and no-flab scriptingཧ, and it’s like the man says: state of the bad-ass art.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> Y🍎ou can tell a lot about a man by the company he keeps – and in the case of stop-motion pioneer Ray Harryhausen, there ar🐷e A-list directors, animators and FX wizards lining up to pay their respects in this retrospective of his career in creature features.

The story is inspiring.

As a kid, he was besotted with , and his obsession led him to study biology and photography to capture lifelike motio♛n i♐n his designs. “How we think dinosaurs move owes to Harryhausen,” points out John Landis.

But reali🃏sm n🦹ever got in the way of adventure, and Harryhausen would willingly sacrifice two legs from an octopus if the budget didn’t stretch that far.

ꦆNow in his 90s, Harryhausen retains a pin-sharp memory and passion for his work.

Harryhausen’s testimony has the intimacy of a workshop session as he explains how he did it, with an enviable horde of test footage, concept art and still-impressꦇive models that are testament to the craftsmanship Harryhausen learned from his engineer father.

With the likes of Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson a🅠nd Nick Park ’fessing up to endless steals, the film lays bare just how influential he still is.

As a craftsman whꦰo became de facto auteur of his films, Harryhausen’s impact on today’s FX-driven Hollywood is a mixed blessing but the film’s candour brings a hint of regret from today’s CGI technicians.

James Cameron might assume that Harryh♏ausen would be a digital guy today, but most admit that advances in technology canℱnot match the enduring personality achieved by the man’s handcrafted creations.

In Henry Sꦇelick’s words: “His monsters had heart.”

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ UK in James-cameron ]]> First, let’s be clear… Avatar is much more than a film. It’s a prescribed cinematic experience. Pure effect. The greatest sideshow on Earth.

Cameron's aim is to take our franchise-frazzled minds and plug us back in to the mainline; to conjur the wonder of those early silent-movie audiences, aghast and alarmed as a steam-train chugged from horizon to foreground.

Like Avatar's hero, injured marine Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), he wants to blast away the past and see through new eyes.

Avatar is the new benchmark for escapist entertainment; the ultimate on-screen dream. More suspension of self than suspension of disbelief.

As Jake dives in and out of his split human/alien personalities, Cameron is equally urging us to leave our burdened minds and busy bodies behind - to sink into our seats and immerse in a virtual world.

In the febrile jungle of planet Pandora, it's a thrillingly alive world of whooping devil-monkeys, scuttling super-spiders, fluttering titan-orchids and bioluminescent air-jellyfish.

The ground is patrolled by hammerheaded, Triceratops-like behemoths and saber-toothed jaguar-giants, while immense, lizard-headed mega-birds rule the air.

But Cameron keeps us connected by not pushing the otherness into hokey, adolescent alien-sketch territory. This isn't an open-air version of the Star Wars cantina: weird for weird's sake.

It feels equally distant and familiar. Like an advanced version of our own world; as if Cameron has run the whole of the current ecosystem through some kind of evolution extrapolation software.

And into this wild and wonderful arena… Enter Avatar Jake, a hybrid of human and Na'vi - the blue-skinned, golden-eyed, oversized indigenous people.

"A marine in an Avatar body", snarls Stephen Lang's feral colonel. "T꧃hat's a potent combination…"

Avatar review

In fumbling hands, this could have badly misfired - strange and silly instead of curious and moving.

But, unlike his last film, Cameron doesn't over-season the sentiment. He drills straight through to the emotional core: his leading man's wrenching inner-space odyssey - from interloper to insider to outcast.

But the success of the human/Na'vi love-story thread is m🅰ostly down to Saldana. Her subtle, spiky performance is a delicious fo🦩il to Worthington's wide-eyed neophyte.

She might have played it haughty and aloof - and annoying. Instead, she makes Neytiri untameable and irresistible, brimming with spirit and soul - and making her, and the other CG characters, feel more weighted and real.

So, yes, some of the CG is a bit floaty and videogamey. But, blended with the extraordinary, retina-frying 3D design, it soon becomes the work of a joyless cynic to spot the joins.

Cameron has taken the techniques of 3D film above and beyond the standard jabbing and jutting gimmickery. Every frame is dripping with sumptuous foreground detail - swirling ambient debris, needle-sharp textural subtleties, multi-layered character nuances…

It's a motion picture where everything seems to move. And it's utterly captivating. A glistening banquet for the senses.

This ꦐisn't Cameron s🐓imply taking existing technology and tweaking the application to his standard.

This is the work of a master fi🍒lm-maker owning and reclaiming the entire concept of 3D; pushing and challenging other film-makers to keep up.

But it's also a long way from just some sterile technical exercise. Avatar sees Cameron revisit his favourite trick: using hardwar𓂃e toꩵ unearth humanity.

He carves out the most ambitious screen backdrop ever conceived, then uses it as a staging ground for riffs on military morality, environmental anguish, science versus nature, spirituality versus pragmatism…

And, in his hero's story, he presents a grand illusion - offering what seems to be a theme of internal conflict and physical reawakening before unleashing a final sucker-punch reveal that's unexpected, devastating, moving and instantly iconic…

Oh, yeah… And there's action, too: sinew-straining, jaw-snapping beast battles; rampaging fist-fights; arcing arrow attacks; whirring gunships peppering the canopy with incendiary fire; lumbering battle-mechs pummelling the life out of Pandora with synthetic death.

All - remember - in 3D…

So, let's be clear… Avatar is much more than a film.

It's an audacious, awe-inspiring work of modern art that reinvents and redesigns the whole process of sitting in a darkened room staring up at a screen.

Sure, it's taken him ten years, but Cameron has achieved no less than a rebirth of cinema.

Jackson, Spielberg, Fincher, PTA, Del Toဣro… Over to you...
