There’s a distinct lack of clickiness to the Scuf Valor Pro, but that may be a feeling that’s arisen from testing out a lot of microswitch controllers lately. Depending on what you’re looking for, that may be a good thing, but when I activate this pad’s trigger stop switches and feel the speedy, clicky LT and RT actuation, I sort of wish tꦿhere was more of that here.

The ♏Valor Pro does sport four back buttons, and I love their shape. The second pair is integrated horizontally, and are designed for you to press with your middle fingers like the larger pair next to them. The dramatic grooves do an amazing job of aiding your grip on the pad, not just making the back buttons easy to find. Interestingly, the P2 and P3 buttons (the smaller set) do feel a lot more clicky and don’t need much pressure to use. The P1 and P4 back buttons function like regular plastic buttons though, and take a lot more pressure to press in.

The facial components of this controller are actually quite small in relation to a lot of other Xbox pro🐼ducts, which is an interesting design choic🍨e, but doesn’t really impact the ability to use it easily. It makes the whole controller feel a bit bigger as a result, so I’d definitely say this is one for the big-hand gang.

The thumbsticks are Hall Effect ones, which makes this the first mainline console product from Scuf to utilize anti-stick drift technology. Scuf said in its press briefing that it took longer than a lot of other brands to come to the table with a Hall Sensor controller because the company feels like they perform and feel differently than potentiometers. Sure, they can be a little more sꦦensitive, but if tuned and calibrated, that’s actually a good thing because it allows for more accuracy in the FPS genre Scuf designs its controllers around. It’s disappointing then, that there are so few ways to personalize the thumbsticks on this controller. The out-of-the-box toppers are very short indeed, and while they’re indented, they have📖 a slippery texture and don’t do much to help you stay accurate. The optional toppers are a touch taller but have the same slippy texture and a domed shape, so they’re not much better. To make matters worse, the deadzones of these sticks feel really large, and there’s no customization software or companion app you can use to adjust them. This feels like a glaring hole in this product’s defense, because these days, this is a basic right of passage for any pro controller.

As is a 1K polling rate, and at the time of writing this, Scuf has just pushed a firmware update to let the Valor Pro achieve it. With no companion software though, the proc💧ess of changing to it is mighty complicated, which you can see from the instructional video linked above. Note also, 🐼that this 1KHz polling rate only works on PC, and you need to remember to deactivate it before going back to the Xbox Series X or S, where the polling rate will be that console’s usual 400Hz.

If you’re a fan of audio controls, the last thing you should be aware of is two scroll wheels on the bottom of the Valor Pro’s face. These sit just above a 3.5mm headphone jack, and they adjust your party chat and game volumes. Performance

I’ll put my hand up an🍸d say that going into testing the Valor Pro, I wasn’t expecting to like it very m🦩uch. Maybe that’s because I’m outside the “majority of players” Scuf designed this pad for. Whenever possible, I’ll play with a wireless controller. At the end of the day, it doesn’t make a massive amount of difference to me if there’s a wire tethering a controller to my PC or console, but the convenience of being able to move around freely offsets any annoying battery life issues. I’d rather be able to have the connectivity choice, and since Xbox is now offering that with other third-party controllers, I’d always consider one of those options first for their added versatility.

Then again, when I started using this controller to play third-person action games like Assassin’s Creed Shadows, I immediately fell in love with its comfort level and the chunky feeling it has in the hands. If you mainly play third-person games, I’d argue this is a fantastic controller to opt for. It has amazing feedback, a great weight and feel to it, and it’s a heavyweight controller bred for players with larger hands in particular. If you’re a fan of previous Scuf controllers for first-person shooters, you may like the feel you find here, but it’s my personal call of duty to tell you that Scuf is just one brand in a bundle of amazing peripheral makers today. There are just too many caveats in recommending this controller, and that’s the issue. Design

Another improvement I’d argue would really make the Cyclone 2 stand out is a second pair of back buttons. I said the same in my review of the Tarantula Pro, but it’s about time this brand ꦡputs its perfect back button placement to better use and gives🔥 us something with even more functionality. Luckily, the two back buttons here are nice and large, making them so easy to find when you naturally grip the pad.

There’s a power button, an M button for mapping the back buttons, and then just three simple functions; an options, a menu, and a screenshot button. The Cyclone 2 can be set up and customized through the new GameSir Connect software, which is really easy 🎉to configure and has a nice layout, lettin🧸g you set deadzones and input curves, or remap buttons and switch between profiles. You can also use 6-axis on Switch for motion controls, and turbo modes are here if you want them too. All in all, the Cyclone 2 has plenty of features for its price.

Performance

As I’ve found with the other TMR controllers I’ve tested thus far, the added🐎 accuracy and sensitivity you can get from them make a massive difference. These are quickly becoming my favorite type of thumbstick to use in FPS games, mainly because I feel like the small adjustments I want to ma🐼ke are viable, but not as unruly as they can be on some Hall sensors or traditional potentiometer sticks. Sniping or shotgunning in Hunt: Showdown 1896 feels precise and crisp, and even in faster-paced FPS games like Splitgate, I feel I can keep up with other PC players who are using a mouse to aim.

Where this controller feels right at home is in third-person action games, mainly because it’s so comfortable. Replaying Shadow of Mordor with tactile microswitch buttons makes Tallion’s sword swi🎐ngs feel like the🎃y flow with Numenorian might, and using the back buttons to control his running speed can make for really comfortable movement around the Black lands of Mordor.

I found this comfort was also a big plus when playing Avowed and clearing portions of the map I hadn’t explored yet. If you’re looki💙ng for an asymmetrical controller under $70 / £70, the GameSir Cyclone 2 should absolutely be on your shortlist, but if you’re looking for something that’ll speci෴alize in one area or draw the absolute best performance out of you, you’ll likely need to go further up the price range. There’s great value for money to be had here, and in that respect, it’s definitely one of the best controllers money can buy just now.

You need to flick some switches on the controller’s back which are awkwardly placed and sit so deep into the chassis that you really need to turn it around and get a good look to find. Then, you need to tuck the thumbsticks in, which should be a simple twist, but always ends up feeling as though you’re breaking something. Following that, you push down on the sides of the modules that are closest to you, and they’ll do about a quarter turn. Note that they can only spin towards you, for some reason. You then have to move your thumbs up to catch the upper half of the module and rotate them the rest of the way round. This all feels like a really clunky process for what’s supposed to be a streamlined attempt at modular design. Although the thumbsticks can be really slippy due to their tiny indentation, their loose stick tension makes them feel really snappy in FPS games like Hunt: Showdown. This is definitely on the looser end of stick tensions though, kind of simil༺ar to the Scuf Nomad in that sense, so if this is something you’re looking for, all the power to you.

It just feels like this controller is missing an element of speed that would really justify its p♐rice versus something like the GameSir Kaleid. In Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, Hunt: Showdown, and even Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor (which I revisited for the first time in years while testing this pad), there’s just a lack of urgency that other controllers offer.

Probably my favorite thing about this controller, however, is that the awesome, crunchy feedback of the Stealth Ultra carries over. It isn’t technically haptic feedback, but there’s something in the rumble motors, grip textures, and materials this brand uses that makes even a little rumble feel incredible. It’s not quite as detailed as the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:DualSense Edge’s haptic feedback, but it’s a step toward it I’m yet to find in other Xbox controllers. Sable controlled smoothly in this way, but if you have larger hands you might want to look at something else.

Should you buy the Turtle Beach Stealth Pivot

There are so many great controllers out there right now, and although I wouldn’t💧 scream and shout about how you should buy the Stealth Pivot, I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily bad either. It does a lot of things well, and for players of fighting games looking for something versatile, it’s going to come in really handy.

Unfortunately, it’s just okay overall. Its novel concept of a spinning, modular design is hamstrung by its lack of options outside of figh💙ting and platforming. In addition, the action of spinning out the modules feels just as clunky as other modular pads make it.

I unde꧃rstand that the Stealth Ultra should now seem like the premium alternative, but it doesn’t feel like the Pivot puts up enough of a fight to be worth considering against it. The fact that it’s bumped up the price of the Stealth Ultra for no real reason is a bit of a gut punch too.

How I tested the Turtle Beach Stealth Pivot

I used the Turtle Beach Stealth Pivot as my main controller for all PC gaming for about a week before this review. In that time, I put it through the usual wringer of games I test pro controllers with. I used fighting games like Dragon Ball Sparking Zero and Tekken, I cruised around the deserts of Sable, I r𝓀evisited Shadow of Mordor, and I snuck around the swamps of Hunt Showdown. For platforming, I played Celeste, trying to grab as many strawberries as I could.

Design

I’ওve been testing the latter though the difference between the two i♒s largely a matter of personal preference and the kinds of racing you’re likely to do.

The RS Wheel Hub is the brains of the operation, this triangular button box contains all the important bits with your wheel rim of choice simply bolting to the front. The Hub may be almost entirely plastic, but it feels impressively premium and nicely matches the rest of the G Pro Racing Wheel. Features

The RS Track Wheel rim feels wonderfully high-end. The aluminium faceplate features a subtle brushed effect which means it both looks and feels luxurious. It’s worth noting though that if you opt for the RS Round Wheel this textured TPE is swapped out for a smooth synthetic silicone leather, but you’ll keep the same brushed aluminium faceplate.

Performance

It was a simple task to attach the RS Track Wheel to the RS Wheel Hub with six hex bolts just needing a few turns from the supplied key. The quick-release adapter feels beefy and similar to the original though takes a small step backwards in user experience as it’s now a little fiddlier to mount. Where the Logitech G Pro Racing Wheel quick release hold꧂s its position open when removed and could simply be pushed on, the RS Wheel Hub’s adapter springs back and requires you🥂 to reach around and hold it open as you slide it onto the wheelbase. It’s a minor, though confusing change but thankfully one that won’t impact you too often unless you’re consistently swapping wheels between wheelbases.

With everything connected and heading out on track in F1 24 the Logitech RS Wheel Hub, RS Track Wheel, and the G Pro Wheelbase proved a delightful combination. I found these much more prominent and easy to see mid-race than the small line of dots on the wheelbase which is actually disabled when the new Hub is attached. The magnetic paddle shifters remain just as tactile and responsive as ever, but disappointingly the dual-clutch paddles have been removed. This i🍌s an odd decision to me. Not only were these particularly useful for F1 sim racers like myself, but they also presented a nice accessibility option for gamers who may prefer or require a hand throttle and brake rather than needing to use pedals.

Should you buy the Logitech G RS Wheel Hub?

While the Logitech G RS Wheel Hub does bring a few subtle upgrades over the original G Pro Wheel and it’s certainly a welcome addition to the range, I can’t help but think there’ll be racers feeling a little short-changed by its arrival. That’s because bizarrely there’s no direct upgrade path for gamers who invested in the G Pro Bundle when it first launched. The main body of the wheel may look almost identical, but the new RS Wheels aren’t compatible with the original and the original isn’t co𒆙mpatible with the new RS Wheel Hub. It’s not the end of the world because the wheelbase itself is compatible with it all, it just means a more expensive upgrade for those who jumped on board early and it’s a shame they aren’t shown a little more love in return.

That aside, both the RS Wheel Hub and the RS Track Wheel are fantastic and a joy to drive with, and their availability as 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:PS5 steering wheels as well as every other platform will make them a great go-to for a lot of sim racers. The Manba One feels like a true counter to that. Its creators have clearly been watching the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best PC controller market of late, they’ve observed gamepads comiཧng൲ out from Turtle Beach that have on-board displays and integrated menu systems, and they’ve decided to one-up them. See, while controllers with a screen are a nice idea, they’re usually so small and their functionality so awkward that I never tend to use them - I’d rather deal with the origami user manual.

But when I unboxed the Manba One, I was immediately greeted with a simple and easy-to-navigate menu screen that not only let me map the pad’s back buttons but contained the power of a fully-fledged PC customization app. For $69.99 / £87, that type of accessibility is fantastic. When you then consider its four ba🦄ck buttons and innovative other features, you’ve got a controller that screams value for money.

Design

The🐻 Manba One is available in two colorways. It comes in a black version which has grey textures on its grips but, other than its side RGB lighting, keeps a pretty low profile. The model I’ve been sent is the white version, which has a transparent shell, and a brighter white and brushed silver skeleton within. It has some side RGB lighting too, which glows and reflects from the transparent chassis like a Dragon Ball character’s aura.

In some ways, the Manba One’s shape reminds me of the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Thrustmaster eSwap X2. Its body is tall and its shoulders have this broad quality to them. My pinky fingers have ample room on the grips, and this is clearly a controller made with bigger hands in mind. The back has a dotted texture to it that feels almost rubberized. I don’t massively enjoy the placement of the Manba One’s back buttons though - they sit quite high up on the controller, meaning you need to press both with your middle fingers. I do really appreciate the small design choice to put a lined texture on the top back buttons so you can easily differentiate which ones you’re pressing.

There are four in total - a start and in-game menu button, then a home and share button. These can help you alt+tab in Windows, which is a nice touch, but are what you’ll use to navigate the gamepad’s own UI. Sitting in the included charging stand, which I’m delighted to say has a space for its USB Wireless dongle, the function buttons frame the controller nicely.

Features

For a controller under $100, there sure are a lot of features to discuss here. To begin with, the controller has microswitch facial buttons that feel as tactile as the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:EasySMX X10 and dodge the spongy feeling of the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Razer Wolverine V2 Pro. The thumbsticks feature Hall sensors and have swappable tops in case you need a little more height. Again, this is great value, and although there isn’t a carrying case, this modular aspect alone grants a lot of adjustability. Flipping the Manba One over, you’ll see a set of trigger stops for the pad’s Hall sensor triggers. These only have one locked setting, but the on-board menu lets you set the actuation of the triggers in more depth, which I’ll discuss in a moment. Alongside the aforementioned four back buttons is a very handy on/off switch. This might honestly be one of this controller’s best features. It saves so much battery life and faff to be able to just turn a pro controller off with the flick of a switch rather than disconnecting a USB dongle, and the🐻n waiting for the gamepad to give up on its pairing dreams.

Of course, the biggest feature of all comes in the Manba One’s integrated display menu, which has incredibly deep customꦜization that you can normally only find in dedicated PC applications. When you first open it up, you’ll be met with some sub-menus. You can change which device the Manba connects with, dive into the settings, and change aspe🦩cts of the display, or recalibrate the triggers, buttons, and thumbsticks.

The settings menu is particularly impressive. You can set three profiles for the PC, and one additional profile for when you use it as a 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Nintendo Switch controller. For each profile, the Manba One lets you establish different 🍸back button mappings, thumbstick/trigger deadzones, input curves, and even set vibration levels. A lot of controllers these days allow you to map buttons on the fly or change profiles quickly, but very few allow you to get in the weeds of deadzones without the use of a gaming PC.

These menus also mea🐬n you can customize settings for the RGB without✅ being strong-armed into a brand like Razer’s RGB syncing programs. There really is no need for a PC application to get the most out of the Manba One, and that really deserves to be applauded as a standout feature.

USB-C is how you’ll tether the Manba One to a charging port. When using a wired connection to play games, you can benefit from up to an 800Hz polling rate. Performance

I’m not a big lov🎐er of deadzones in controller thumbsticks. The first thing I usually do after mapping back buttons is set the deadzones to zero so I can get the absolute most out of small adjustments in my aim. But upon making the same adjustment to the Manba One, I was met with perhaps the hottest thumbstick sensitivity I’ve ever come across in a controller - including new options with TMR sensors in them. Super-hot sensitivity can be a blessing and a curse. You get ultimate twitch-reaction aim, but large sweeps can be really unruly and take some getting used to. In FPS games like Hunt Showdown this, combined with the taller thumbstick attachment, makes for excellent sniping capability, but using sho𒆙tguns and running around the world can feel really unruly.

In Avowed, playing in both first and third-person, I found some very bizarre calibration issues after tuning the deadzones of the thumbsticks. This was only an issue in Avowed, but it isn’t something I’ve come across in any other Hall sensor controller. It essentially meant my left thumbstick was registering a constant move to the right - so anyone who had come across stick drift would have been immediately triggered. Thankfully, after recalibrati♐ng the sticks this issue disappeared, but it’s something to look out for. Otherwise, the Manba did a lovely job of helping me to manage all my magical spells and companion abilities in Avowed, with back buttons coming in clutch in various ways.

The M𒁏anba One did a lot for me in terms of comfort while playing 1000xResist too. The larger frame of the controller meant playing a game with fewer inputs was nice and comfortable, and using either the microswitch buttons or the back buttons felt great during longer sessions.

Those face buttons were great when I felt I needed more speed in games like Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. Button mashing and fast tapping are so much more responsive on a controller with microswitches, and although the rest of the pad didn’t feel so strong in a fighting game scenario, it did put🃏 the face buttons in a nice spotlight.

While I do wish the back buttons were moved a little further down the Manba One’s grips, it’s hard to fault them in games like Celeste, where they helped me to jump and dash without too much frantic thumb movement. Feedback was good here too, although I act🅠ually found myself dialing the vibration level up a touch from its out-of-the-box setting since it was a bit too subtle for the crun♒chy feel of that game. This is unusual since most pro controllers can have their rumble motors working far too hard out of the box.

All told, the Manba One makes a great case for itself across all sorts of gaming genres. I guess the trouble is that it doesn’t really excel in any of them. The GameSir Tarantula Pro is similarly priced and has better thumbsticks and comfort. The 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Victrix Pro BFG for Xbox doesn’t have an onboard screen, but many more physical adjustments. The Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra has a screen and better back buttons, and the PowerA Fusion P𓆏ro has better RGB lighting. Nevertheless, the Manba One has excellent features, including a massive quality of life bonus in its on-board user interface. The power of a PC app in the palm of your hand is not a common occurrence, and Manba deserves credit for that reason. This is a comfortable controller with a lot of versatility. While it doesn’t excel in any one genre of gaming, it makes a strong cꦇase for a tool in any of them.

For its price, the fact it gives you four back buttons, and some great features, this is an easy controller to recomme✱nd to those players who need a bit more utility and who don’t want to faff about with PC customization software or confusing function buttons. I’d argue the most competitive players should look elsewhere though, especially if their budget can stretch over $100.

Like Hall's technology, they use small electromagnets to track your thumbstick's position on a grid, but TMR sensors are equivalent to a jump to 4K resolution from 1080p when measuring that position. It can register significa♉ntly more points on a grid, allowing for even more accuracy, and potential for sensitivity. It can also report these positions faster than Hall effect sensors, meaning controllers that harness this new technology will be futureproofed for polling rates well over 1,000Hz.

Design

While the concave shape of the DualShock 4’s triggers brought a lot of feel to PS4 games, they do now feel൩ tiny by modern standards. The Tarantula Pro’s triggers still aren’t the longest, but they do have a more rounded shape to them that makes them easier to pull from an angle.

On the other hand, the facial panel of the Tarantula Pro feels like it has its own modern identity, whether that’s from GameSir injecting a bit of personality, or just a bit of a last-ditch effort to avoid patent infringement. A camo faceplate harnesses this controller’s main inputs, including a very traditional four-way D-pad which again, you don’t see often these days besides on nostalgic controllers like the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:PB Tails Crush Defender.

The face buttons are an act of creative genius. Visually, they’re so distinct since they don’t actually hold any specific symbols on their outside. Features

As mentioned, the thumbsticks have TMR modules in them, making this just thཧe second consumer-ready controller to use this futuristic technology. TMR stands for Tunneling magnetoresistance, and it’s an even more advanced version of the electromagnetic technology found in Hall Effect controllers. In practice, it makes sticks just as immune to stick drift but capable of registering significantly more positions on an axis, allowing for more accuracy and directional potential. At the same time, TMR sensors can communicate inputs at much high🙈er polling rates. The Tarantula Pro is only capable of a 1,000Hz polling rate on PC, but TMR sensors are futureproofed to go much, much higher than that.

What’s nice is that you don’t need to deep-dive into the technicalities of this TMR tech if you don’t want to, but GameSir’s updated PC app does allow for it. Gone is the GameSir Nexus app that’s been used for all of the brand’s controllers so far. The new Cyclone 2 and Tarantula Pro both use the GameSir Connect app, presumably to give users more specific features for contemporary models. I was a big fan of the fact that the deadzones of the thumbsticks were already minuscule out of the box here, as usually with some of the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best Xbox Series X controllers they’re far too ♏big when you first start playing.

You can remap any of the Tarantula Pro’s buttons in the Connect software, as well as set your triggers to either be in adaptive mode, hair-trigger mode, or their regular setting. It’s a real shame GameSir opted for these over another set of back buttons, since the grips clearly have room for more. If you don’t want to use back buttons, there are some locking switches on the back of the controller that take them out of the equation entirely.

The Tarantula Pro comes with a USB-C to USB cable, and I’d highly recommend holding onto it because the USB-C port on the controller has one of those annoying narrow gateways that means not every shape of connector will fit into it. This bugs the life out of me, and I wish peripheral makers would let this design flaw die already, but I digress. Luckily, there’s also a USB W🎉ireless dongle in the box, and the Tarantula is capable of Bluetooth connections as well. You’ll also benefit from a light-up charging stand, which I’m happy to report can connect via USB A or USB-C. If you use the USB-C side, this gives you a slot within the st🌟and to holster your wireless dongle so you don’t lose it, although since this is actually a USB port, I wouldn’t suggest you push it in all the way because it will prove very difficult to get back out again.

Battery life is quoted as an inexact “long-lasting”. While I don’t have an exact time to share either, I can say that in over 10 hours of play testing, I’m yet to see it 𒆙run out. When a charging stand is included in your purchase anyway, it’s much harder to find the faults with strange battery life claims, so I’ll let it slide for now.

Performance

Since the former, my standards of controller comfort have been well and truly raised, and since the latter, it’s going to take something with serious speed and feel to make me sit up and take notice. In many ways, the GameSir Tarantula Pro captures a lovely halfway point between them both. The comfort here feels as good as it did on the DualShock 4, except with added heft. Theಞ mix of membrane and microswitch functions on the shoulders and facial elements feel like they give a lot of grounds for competitive play too, just like Razer’s option.

Admittedly, micros🅰witch face buttons may have offered more in twitchy games like Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, but I think to capture that DualShock 4 feeling, the designers at GameSir had to go for membrane ones. With the holographic symbols giving a unique design flare, I feel bad for criticizing them, but whether it’s their domed shape or slightly larger actuation, they don’t feel quite as snappy as the DualShock 4.

This small gripe doesn’t prevent the Tarantula from feeling like a super-cohesive gamepad in fast-paced games. In Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, I felt I had all the functionality I needed to string combos together during fights. In more complex games like Helldivers 2, there was a lot of functionality in macro-making thanks to those additional face buttons, although they just don’t feel as♏ useful as two more back buttons would have.

I really do wish that GameSir would offeไr us four back buttons on📖e of these days. The rest of this controller feels primed to be a competitive play masterpiece, and with just two more back buttons it would go from a controller I’ll use for a lot of single-player games to the main one I use for 90% of my playtime. This is the first time I really feel as though GameSir has missed a trick because there’s never been a symmetrical controller with four back buttons. People who prefer this layout want competitive options too, please. The longe꧟r, rounded grips on a DualShock 4-reminiscent controller would have been the perfect opportunity for GameSir to truly break the mold, and I’m a tad let down by the fact it opted for some smaller, confusing face button extras instead.

What I’m not let down by are the excellent thumbsticks, which without any size-changing toppers still managed to play competitively. Running around in Hunt: Showdown, I really felt the difference that TMR modules give. The smallest of aiming adjustments felt as possible as they do on the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Victrix Pro BFG for Xbox using its tallest thumbstick attachment. At the same time, sweeping shoulder aim flicks felt robust and controllable thanks to dial🦩ed-in thumbstick tension. GameSir currently wears the crown for most consistently placing these exactly where your fingers wrap around a controller. So what I can't understand is why it doesn't want to take things a step further. Why not add to the greatness, the utility, and the value for money, but putting four back buttons in as opposed to two? Even if not every game requires them, I still tend to gravitate toward the controllers that have them for my everyday use. They offer such a great range of utility so at least the option is there for when I need it. Pedals are such an overlooked aspect of racing sim gear, and getting ones that can keep up with today’s premium controllers is a whole other dilemma.

They’re versatile, first of all, so you won’t need to worry about forking out more cash for an accurate set of pedals for one type of racing sim. These have a quick-change functionality, meaning pedals can be swapped out effortlessly via their software.

Gone are the traditional pedal design that u🍰ses fragile s💝prings and motors with ball screws. The mBooster system allows for much more accurate travel, with a much more precise allowance for adjustment as well - with a 15-bit angle sensor. So while the MOZA R3 may not be the first direct drive wheel for the Xbox, there’s an opp꧙ortunity to quickly jump the field. Existing options have critical flaws; the Logitech G Pro is excellent, but super expens𝕴ive, and the Turtle Beach VelocityOne is still pricey but lacks performance, if the R3 can avoid these bumps it could quickly race into P1.

Design

The MOZA R12 has been my sim racing daily driver on PC for nearly a year. It’s excellent and I’m pleased to see MOZA carry plenty of its DNA over into the R3. The black aluminium shell feels solid, premium, and most importantly bucks the trend of other Xbox racing wheels which rely far too much on plastic for my liking. Sticking with comparisons against the Logitech G Pro, it’s almost unbelievably small, almost half the width and a third of the depth which makes a massive difference in person. Even with this stature the R3 still packs the same connectivity as MOZA’s more expensive offerings with full support for a range of inputs on the rear. I can understand the swap in terms of keeping costs down but ꧑it’s a noticeable downgrade if you know what you’re missing. It’s still comfortable enough to hold and use, however with just an 11” diameter the entire ESX wheel did feel a little small. There are advantages to this though as it means the full button layout is nicely within reach and I was able to access almost all of the buttons without changing my grip.

Features

There are 22 buttons in total but once again they show signs of being an area of cost saving and are OK without being impressive. The MOZA GS V2P wheel that I’m used to features clicky mechanical buttons that feel tactile and responsive, while every button on the ESX felt a little soft and each carried a noticeable wobble. Performance

The star of the show in the MOZA R3 bundle is the wheelbase and it’s hard to convey just how much of a difference direct drive makes compared to a belt or gear-driven wheel like the staple Logitech G923. The 3.9Nm servo motor on t🍷he R3 delivers smooth, responsive, and detailed force feedback that feels far more true to life than other entry-level options. Admittedly 3.9Nm isn’t super powerful so it won’t attack your wrists in the same way a more powerful base like the 11Nm Logitech G Pro will, but there’s still plenty of oomph here and I was surprised how much I had to fight the wheel when going off track or through a tight chicane.

The wheelbase will grab the headlines but it’s actually the ESX wheel where the compatibility magic happens. Interestingly this wheel is compatible with MOZA’s other more powerful bases like th💃e excellent MOZA R12, meaning there is technically an upgrade path on offer here. Unfortunately however, because the console handshake happens inside the wheel, while you can put the wheel on other wheelbases you can’t put other wheels on the R3 to use on an Xbox. There is a welcome compromise to this because similar to the Logitech G RS system, MOZA offers a couple of differently shaped ‘ES Mod’ wheel rims that can be swapped in and bolted to the main wheel body.

Game compatibility is generally pretty good and largely plug-and-play, most headline titles are supported though there are a few notable (and strange) exclusions like F1 23 which offers no support at all, despite F1 21, 22, and 24 all being included. Forza Motorsport initially tried to shake me out of my seat with a funky setting causing the wheel to violently wo𓃲bble at high speed, yet jumping over to Forza Horizon I found myself🍨 looking to bump up the intensity of settings across the board to really feel the effects. Both cases were temporary though and I was quickly able to iron things out.

Should you buy the Moza R3?

In the same way that Formula 1 cars need to balance downforce and top sp🧸eed, the MOZA R3 is playing a balancing game of its own between price and performance. It may not be the first direct drive racing wheel for Xbox gamers, but the R3 is the first to be genuinely accessible and still offer an excellent driving experience. There are a couple of compromises along the way but these are only evident when lined up against more expensive options. For a majority of gamers, the MOZA R3 is going to tick basically every box for a firs🐭t wheel or a first jump from a belt or gear-driven option.

The R3 delivers smooth and detailed force feedback that while not overly punchy, still packs enough of a punch to make you work for every second of improved lap time. The pedals are simple but ♔robust and precise, and while the ESX wheel itself may not be quite as strong as the rest of the bundle, it’s still more than good enough for its purpose and place in the market. MOZA has set the benchmark now, it's got a time on the board with the R3 bundle, and while there are still improvements to be made, a new era for Xbox sim racing is off to a very strong start.

How we tested the Moza R3

I mounted the MOZA R3 racing bundle to a RacGTing Challenger 301 racing seat and tested it with an Xbox Series X across a number of titles including Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizo🌱n. Earlier in the year I had the opportunity to review the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Scuf Nomad and it quickly became my number one pick f෴or a mobile controller. Landing on the market and in the hands of gamers for $109/£109, The Asus ROG Tessen offers some nifty features that do make it stand out from the pack,꧋ but is it worth it compared to more affordable options?

Design

As I’ve said, I often rely on mobile controllers to do a good percentage of my gaming and so one of my biggest factors in choosing one is comfort for long playing sessions. I have unfortunately had one too many game-winning k꧃ills foiled by cramps in my hands.

Usually, that issue is prompted by a couple of factors; the size of the controller, its weight, and the placement of the thumbsticks. I can thankfully say that the Asus ROG Tessen addresses two of those problems for me.꧟ To kick things off the device is surprisingly lightweight and is made of textured plastic, making it comfortable to hold for long periods without it putting stress on your wrists.

Secondly, the device is small. I adore the Scuf Nomad for its larger size meaning it feels more substantial in hand and I really dislike the Backbone One for its smaller Nജintendo Switch Joy-Con-like size, so more often than not I prefer a largerꦆ mobile controller. This leaves me shocked as to how much I like the Asus ROG Tessen’s size, particularly because it’s smaller than the Backbone. While the physical dimensions are technically smaller than the Backbone One, the actual shape of the grips gives a much nicer feel in-hand rather than it feeling flat and hard to grip.

Finally, like most of the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best PC controllers, the Asus ROG Tessen has opted for the classic offset thumbstick layout. This means on the left-hand side of it you’ll find the thumbstick at the top of the device witꦜh a d-pad towards the bottom, with the right-hand side of the device featuring the XYAB buttons at the top and the thumbstick at the bottom. Unfortunately, you won’t find hall-effect sticks here, something that most mobile pads now offer, which means that over time they are more likely to experience stick-drift.

I felt this was a nice departure from the norm, and it was refreshing to see as someone who’s tested a few controllers in the last year.

Features

As previously mentioned, you’ll find the traditional Xbox-style layout of controls on the ROG Tessen which makes it very easy to use if you’re familiar with those commands. The buttons themselves have a very nice tactile feel to them and produce quite a satisfying click - I’m not sure my girlfrien🎃d would say the same thing when she was lying next to me in bed trying to sleep, however. This is even more present in the D-pad which I actually found to be annoyingly clicky but only when pressing right on it.

Rather than having the usual extendable clamp bridge mechanism, the ROG Tessen features a very unique hinge design allowing you to fold up the c🐟ontroller for easier storage. This also doubles as an easy way to connect your phone to the USB-C port rather than having to stretch it around your mobile. Connecting your phone could not be easier and you’re into the games you want to play within seconds. Despite it being USB-C it has been confirmed by Asus that it is not compatible with the recent generations of iPhone, so this is a purely Android-focused device.

Speaking of USB-C, you’ll find an additional port at the bottom right of the🎉 controller to allow passthrough charging so that you can game for even longer. And of course, like most pieces of gaming technology, you’ll find some very subtle RGB along the rim of the controller.

The rear paddles at the 🍸back are easily mapped thanks to a function button on the front. Sim🃏ply press the button to re-map, press the button you want to assign, and then press the paddle. Easy.

Performance

I have to admit, the paddles were hands down my favorite aspect of the ROG Tessen. They are perfectly located at the back of the controller and I found my middle fingers always gravitating towards them. This is particularly helpful in first-person shooter games like Call of Duty as I was able to assign my reload command and my melee command to those paddles. Not once did I find them having any issues or not working as they should - on top of that, they are incredibly satisfying to click, it m♉akes me want a full-sized controller for PS5 or Xbox with back paddles as꧃ opposed to buttons.

The process of remapping them was super simple and can be done as I mentioned above or𝔉 via the Asus Armoury app. I never found the app particularly useful and opted for the button on the controller for 99% of my button remapping. This was primarily because it was much quicker. Jumping between games via GeForce Now or XCloud I was constantly needing different commands assigned and this was the easiest solution.

While the thumbsticks are nothing to write home about, I can say they do the job. I put this mostly down to how small they feel compared to the latter two I mentioned, but I just found them uncomfortable for long playing sessions. This is an issue that pops up for me frequently with mobile controllers that choose the offset design, and as someone with larger hands, I’d prefer if more controllers moved away from it.

Thanks to the USB-C connection I neve🅘r found there to be any latency issues at all, something I have occasionally seen in Bluetooth devices. So any deaths in-game are purely down to your actual skill rather than the controller letting yꦑou down.

I spent roughly 15 hours playing the ROG Tessen both at home and out and about using a variety of native games such as Call of Duty and cloud-based games via GeForce Now and XCloud and it works okay most of the time. I did have a significant issue with Call of Duty where the controller was not recognized by the game initially without goin⛄g into the Armoury App.

Overall, I never felt it did anything truly remarkable to justify the higher price tag than the Scuf Nomad, or even the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:GameSir G8 Galileo. While the back paddles are genuinely fantas🎉tic, I feel they really are the only standout feature to be had here.

Should you buy the Asus ROG Tessen?

However, if you’re looking to start your journey into mobꩲile gaming then꧙ I would recommend the ROG Tessen over the Backbone One if you can find it cheaper than RRP, but I would also encourage you to look at alternative options such as the GameSir Galileo G8, or for maximum size, the Razer Kishi Ultra.

How we tested the Asus ROG Tessen

I used the Asus ROG Tessen over a period of a week with a Samsung Galaxy S20 and used it as one of my main sources of gaming. Throughout my time with it I played ඣa variety of games including Call of Duty Mobile and Black Ops 6 (via GeForce Now), Watch_Dogs 2 (via GeForce Now), and Star Wars Outlaws (via GeForce Now). The elite design of an Esports pad, or a timepiece that could be the crown jewel of your controller collection?

Design

You can’t deny that the Crush Defender has a look like n⛎o other, but what’s not immediately obvious is that each one made is truly one of a kind. The controller has a metal body that’s hand-finished with tiny dents, scratches, and its own unique deformities. It looks like something pulled straight from the world of Borderlands, and I mean that as a compliment of the highest order. As a controller, it feels like it already has a backstory and a character of its own from the moment you unbox it, a bit like the Skywalker lightsaber does when it’s passed from character to character. These tiny bits of aging aren’t just a coat of paint everyone else will find, but authentic, hand-crafted scars for just your model that make it just yours.

On another note, the shape of this controller is also distinctive. It’s not like other controllers that release these days that are clearly all drawn from the same five, tried and tested molds. The shape of the Defender was inspired by, of all things, a car. The Porche 550 Spyder is known for its elegant curves and smooth metalwork. Of course, the main selling point here is the TMR technology in the thumbstick modules. As you may know from almost every controꦍller adopting them in the last few years, Hall sensor thumbsticks use tiny electromagnets to measure stick movements. They provide a much more accurate controller input than traditional potentiometer sticks and don’t have any physical components that wear down over time, so drift isn’t going to🐷 be a problem.

TMR stands for Tunneling Magnetoresistance, and it takes what’s great about Hall Sensors and kicks it up a gear. Performance

There are functional issues with its design that are hard to get past, even if I’m giving it the benefit of the doubt for not necessarily trying to be a “pro” controller.

The thumbsticks do have swappable tops, although to change them out for the rubberized ones that come in the case you first need to pry off the metal faceplate, then somehow wrestle the metallic stick tops out of their guard. It’s not an easy process, one not something PB Tails accounts for in its instruction leaflet. Either way, if you plan to use this pad for intense gameplay, I think this feature will be a must. The metal surface of the sticks has a domed shape, which matches the rest of the Defender’s look, but is a massive problem when gaming. The second your thumbs start to produce heat they will slip o🅷ff the sticks so fast you’ll begin to hear that canned whistle sound used by cartoons. That can make precise movements really tricky, so this isn’t exactly the pad I’d use for sweaty sessions of Hunt: Showdown - even if flick aims in Straftat are horrendously ﷽satisfying.

It also can’t be denied just how comfortable a controller this is. It makes it all the more tragic that there are no back buttonsཧ because building them into the fantastic shape of this pad’s grips would have added so much utility. As it stands, the Crush Defender is at its best in cozy games where intensity is low, or in cinematic experiences like Indika.

I did notice that recording footage for videos felt great with the Defender. TMR tech really makes slow camera pans easy because even a small hint of a nudge was registered at 𝓡the speed I wanted. On that note, in FPS games that didn’t require too much precision, the Defender worked great. We Happy Few felt like it was being played on the ideal controller because all those attempts to copy BioShock went hand-in-hand with a nostalgic gamepad.

Should you buy the PB Tails Crush Defender?

One of my favorite controllers of all time is the DualShock 4 - even to this day. I spent a number of months with the PB Tails Crush Defender before writ൩ing up this review. I’ve had a great time testing it with slower, more cinematic games like Indika and Pools.

To test its FPS ⛎prowess, I spent time with it in Hunt: Showdown and STRAFTAT, but it didn’t really compare with my experience using other pro controllers in this genre. In slower single-player FPS games, it wasn’t unusable. Playing We Happy Few felt quite n🐽ostalgic, and since precise aiming isn’t the biggest aspect of that game, it worked better.

I compared the Defender’s speed with the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro because I tested both controllers alongside one another. In Dragon Ball Sparking Zero I felt as though the Defender was really lacking 𒁃speed and responsiveness, although time playing Celeste did make me more optimi♔stic about that.

Thumbsticks

As mentioned, the first Nintendo Switch's thumbsticks leave a lot to be desired. They're fairly small, which can make them unwieldy when using the Switch in handheld mode. They're asymmetrical, which works for the majority of controllers, but in a small form factor, as we've seen with many of the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best mobile controllers in the last▨ year or so, a symmetrical approach can be more comforta꧑ble.

From that reveal video, we can see the Switch 2 will stick to its original design🦹, b꧅ut with a slightly larger size, maybe the hand cramps won't be such an issue.

Ninte🤡ndo hasn't b𝐆roken too many rules when it comes to the button arrangement on its new Joy-Con this time around. We're still faced with the face, d-pad, home, +/-, and screenshot clickers we know and love.

But there's a new kid in town. The nꦰew Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con has an additi🅰onal button below the home button on the right-hand controller. We don't know what function this will serve yet, but leaks called it the "C button".

There also appears to be a button on the inside of the controllers for bringing out its shoulder buttons that are used when turning a Joy-Con on its side. This is a nice way to hide the extr𒀰a buttons as they're all too easy to accidentally press when using the Joy-Cons from the original Switch vertically.

Size

The Switch's Joy-Cons feature quite an uncomfortable and small form factor. Other than the depth you get from the trigger and bumper buttons on top, there's noth💜ing there to really help with grip or ergonoꩵmics.

Going against what we saw from some leakers, the Switch 2's Joy♚-Cons don't seem to feature curved backs like a lot of today's handheld PCs. At least their longer build will make it easier for folks with larger hands to grip them.

IR sensors

One of the most interesti💧ng changes the Switch 2's Joy-Cons might be that they're each said to sport an IR sensor. From the video we have, it's hard to c𝕴onfirm this for sure. Early leaks reported that the new Joy-Cons would use these Infrared sensors as a way to control a cursor as you would with a mouse. This would be strange for a Nintendo console, but there is a shot in the trailer of the new Joy-Cons sliding around a surface.

Infrared sensors are commonly used in the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best VR headsets today for measur🐈ing proximity within a space. They help with things like room tracking and making sure you don't accidentally walk into your TV like a million viral TikToks.

The first iteration of Joy-Con controllers only had one of these Infrared sensors, which sat on the bottom of the right-hand controller. To mount the old controllers, you had to slide them down and click them into place, but there were few ways to do this smoothly when the device was in handh🦩eld mode, because it constantly meant smudging your screen or holding the console awkwardly.

My left Joy-Con actually started degrading over time as well, which meant that clicking🦩 it into place on the console didn't actually register it as being mounted onto the Switch.

The Switch 2's Joy-Cons are remedying that issue though, because they feature a new mounting system. Leaks﷽ said that this would feature magnets, and it might do. It's hard to tell for sure from the reveal video, especially because it looks as though there are some connecting pins on the side of the Switch. We'll need to tune in for the Nintendo Direct o🦂n Feb 2 to hear more details.

Pro controller

However, none of this really matters if you tend to mai𒁏nly play in docked mode, and seldom actually use the Joy-Con controllers. The original Switch came with a set of Joy-Cons, a grip for them to be slotted into to turn them into a gamepad, but from launch, there was also the option to grab a Switch Pro Controller.

As a gamepad geek, the first Switch's official Pro Controller 🔯was a watershed moment for the rest of the market. It was the first widely available USB-C gamepad, it featured maybe the best battery life of any wireless controller, and it blended the chunky feel of anꦉ Xbox model with the feel of a PlayStation Dual-whatever in a lot of ways.

The Switch 2 is dropping with a new grip to slot the new Joy-Cons into, and there's an updated dock as you might expect. What we haven't seen yet is a new pro controller, and I for one have many questions about whether the external gamepads f꧒or the Switch will be compatible with Switch 2.

Should you buy the DualSense Edge?

Since reviewing the DualSense Edge, I've barely touched my regular DualSense, and that should tell you a lot about its quality. It may be highly priced and not offer as much as other controller🧔s do for $200, but it does make vas♛t improvements over the regular DualSense controller that comes with your console.

For starters, it's way more comfortable, and that's partly down to its curved grips that give you mo♔re room for your pinky fingers. It feels more like the DualShock 4, which, in my opinion, was actually more ergonomic than the stock DualSense.

The back paddles are some of the best on any controller I've tested, and that partly comes down to the fact that so few controllers utilize magnetic back paddles, as opposed to integrated buttons. I really wish there꧃ were four of these to really make the Edge a pro controller that can compete with the best PC controllers, but the two which are there are great.

It's not all perfect though, because despite the fact that you can rep༺lace the gamepad's thumbstick modules, they're still subject to the same stick drift issues as the normal DualSense controllers. What's even worse is that so much of the time, it can be really difficult to find replacement thumbstick modules for the DualSense Edge, and PlayStation has been so quiet about fans complaints that they often don't supply them anywhere. If you're worried about stick drift, maybe bring this into consideration, although from two years of use now, I can't say it's ever been an issue for my DualSense Edge.

Design

It has that slightly bloated, more rounded feel in the hands than the stock Xbox controllers, but the new version feels more robust and professional than the Razer Wolverine V2 Pro ever has. The back buttons in the V3 models feel like the biggest improvement of the entire product because they sit exactly where your middle and ring fingers naturally rest. I find I can either curl my fingers to press these with their tips, or I can have a more relaxed hold and actuate the buttons with the insides of my DIP joints.

Performance

Even in early tests, it’s clear that speed was a priority for Razer’s product designers. Nothing better exemplified that than my time in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. Speed is quite literally everything in that game, and both the back buttons and face buttons have saved my skin during many a difficulty-spiked bonus level. I did, however, find that the game’s button-mashing moments felt less forgiving on this controller than on the likes of the DualSense on PS5. Speed was equally useful when playing through a level of Celeste, as I do with every controller I test. I do, however, have a gr🦩ipe with the wireless connectivity. The thumbsticks are also hall-effect meaning you won’t run into any wear and tear from൲ them further down the line, and if that wasn’t enough you can customise their height with a simple twist. I was really impressed by this and often found myself fiddling with the sticks… no, not like that.

But I also had serious 𝓰reservations. I really don’t like RGB, I feel like it takes away from a lot of dev❀ices and makes them look tacky. While I admit some usage of it can be tasteful, more often than not I really don’t enjoy it.

So you can imagine the shock I had when I realized that I absolutely adore the RGB on the PowerA Fusion Pro Wireless controller. I really mean it. I love it. On paper, I should dislike it but it makes it look so unique and it’s꧙ done in such a tasteful way that I can’t help but admire it - I think it helps that there are multiple different modes to allow me to get one to suit my taste, but I love it nonetheless.

My adoration of this controller extends past the surface level and the RGB as it’s a truly remarkable controller that exceeds all my expectations. I spent a large amount of time testing this gamep🍎ad in games such as Call of Duty Black Ops 6, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey♔ and Valhalla, Star Wars Outlaws, and Starfield and I found that it really elevated my experience playing these games.

I think a large part of my enjoyment come🐭s from the four programmable buttons at the rear of the controller. After getting to use two back buttons for the first time on console via the GameSir Kaleid, having an extra two to play around with here really made all the difference. I was able to get those game-winning kills on Black Ops 6 multiplayer thanks to 🧔having everything I needed mapped to buttons right at my fingertips, my parrying skills were significantly quicker on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and being able to change up what these buttons did on the fly made this an incredibly simple experience. I never once found myself accidentally clicking the rear buttons, and on the flip side, I never struggled to press them when I most needed them. More controllers should think about having four extra buttons around back as opposed to two, because it really does make all the difference.

Another aspect that I thoroughly enjoyed was the hall-effect thumbsticks. While I have used those style sticks before, the peace of mind knowing you won’t be impacted by stick-drift does make a big difference. They feel responsive and comfortable to use, and being able to cus🌜tomize their height with a quick twist was no short of revolutionary. This allowed me to really tailor the controller to my liking to give me the most comfortable experience possible, while also giving me even more control over my gameplay. I currently have my right stick as high as it can possibly go as I have been playing a lot of Call of Duty and so it gives me even more precise control over my aiming - that said, I can’t claim it’s helped my KD ratio.

Unfortunately, some of those deaths could be attributed to the slight latency I ꦏexperienced while using the PowerA Fusion Pr♛o Wireless. While it is advertised as having low-latency connectivity I found that navigating menus on the Xbox dashboard was sluggish and there was a slight delay in my actions. This would extend to some games, most noticeably in Black Ops 6 and Star Wars Outlaws. It happened very rarely and only really when I would enter the game from Xbox’s built-in quick resume feature.

Another aspect that fell flat a little for me was the triggers, while they work and are satisfying to use, I found the trigger locks to be somewhat pointless as I didn’t really notic🐓e a difference outside of a couple of instances. Perhaps I’m not playing the correct games to fully appreciate them but I found that keeping them unlocked gave me the best experience when gaming.

Overall though I found the controller inc🔯redibly comfortable to use and I actually prefer it to both the GameSir Kaleid and the standard Xbox controller, even with all the RGB. One little note however, I was disappointed to discover that it isn’t compatible with Nvidia Shield which I don’t believe is a fault of PowerA but as it is one of my primary ways to game via GeForce NOW it did make me a little upset that I can’t useꦕ this fantastic controller for that system.

Should you buy the PowerA Fusion Pro Wireless controller?

Hands down I would fully recommend you purchase the PowerA Fusion Pro Wireless controller if you are looking💙 for one of the best Xbox controllers on the market. I never thought I would be so high on something that lights up so bright but I really do recommend this controller, RGB and all. It has completely replaced my usual gamepad, the GameSir Kaleid, and I can’t see that chanﷺging anytime soon.
