It concluded with things looking pretty bleak for Oz; the titular crook having strangled his right-hand man Vic (Rhenzy Feliz) and striking a deal with a councilman to stitch Sofia up and send her back to the asylum. Not that he looks at things tha💦t way, though. 

In the show's final few moments, an institutionalized Sofia is told that 🧜her half-sister Selina Kyle (AKA Catwoman) is looking to get in touch and the Bat-Signal can be seen appearing over the city. A tease of what to come, perhaps?

"Beyond Colin, it depends on whether there's a story 👍that we can make richer than what we’vꩵe already done," LeFranc went on. "I fully arced everything."

News of the other s▨pin-offs haven't left everyone thrilled, however, with many fans of The Batman taking to social media🌊 to suggest that DC and Warner Bros. concentrate on releasing Part 2 before tinkering with more small screen projects.

"Can we get The Batman 2 first, fam?" one fan  to LeFranc's update on X, while a secon꧋d added: "Just give me The Batman Part 2."

Starfire will focus on the origin story of the Teen Titan, following her adventures after she finds a spaceship on her home planet of Tamaran and uses it to explore the stars. Thanks to the trailer, we know that the plot will 🗹revolve around Rick Flagg Sr. goꦬing after Peacemaker for revenge, after Peacemaker killed his son back in The Suicide Squad. We also know that Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner, and Maxwell Lord will be making appearances.

Beyond that, no official plot details for Peacemaker season 2 have been confirmed yet, and we don't expect these until a bit closer to the release date. However, we do have some idea of where things may kick off as James Gunn has shared a few details. Firstly, we know that 𝕴Peacemaker season 2 will take🅰 place after the events of Superman as Gunn confirmed on Threads. Therefore, we expect some of the 🔯big events in that movie to be referenced in the show's second season.

However, the show also takes place after the events of season 1 as well. "It essentially picks up where season 1 left off," . Given it's been a while, let's reca✅p exactly what happened at the end of Peacemaker's first season. Much of the finale saw Peacemaker and the team dealing with the threat of the Butterflies and their group leader🀅, Clemson Murn, killed. In the battle, Emilia Harcourt, John Economos, and Vigilante were all pretty badly injured, but on their way to mending by the end of the season.

There were a few unresolved teases set up at the end of the show too, includ🧸ing Peacemaker's White Dragon father appearing to him in a vision beyond the grave. Creepy. Meanwhile, Leota Adebayo e𓂃xposed her mother Amanda Waller's involvement in Task Force X and Project Butterfly to the press as well. Expect some fallout there.

Is Peacemaker canon to the DCU?

Yes. But it's complicated. Peacemaker season 1 took place in the DCEU, which is where John Cena's version of Peacemaker first originated (in The Suicide Squad). It also made several references to the DCEU that was, including having a very tongue-in-chee𒆙k set of Justice League cameos in its finale.

However, Peacemaker season 2 is set in the new DCU, and given that it takes place after Superman and brings in a Creature Commandos character in Frank Grillo's Rick Flag Sr., season 1 is seemingly operating in an odd narrative limbo. James Gunn even almost said as much himself, describing the slightly confusing continuity ♋i❀n an interview with IGN.

"Now in Creature Commandos, you'll hear them talk about things that happened in [The] Suicide Squad or Peacemaker. Well then, tho😼se things automatically become canon," Gunn told the publication. "The truth is almost all of Peacemaker is canon with the exception of Justice League… which we will kin𝓰d of deal with in the next season of Peacemaker."

To make things even more confusing, Gunn said on Threꦰads, that "many strands [from Peacemaker season 1] will remain🦩 consistent… insofar as Peacemaker’s story goes."

Neither The Penguin nor Harley Quinn had the DC Studio🤪s fanfare attached, and neither project is actually within the new DCU. But, they're still part of DC Studios.

"All DC television & film projects are now under DC Studios," Gunn wrote on . "Because Harley Quinn was developed long before us we didn’t think it was fair to put the DC Studio fanfa🐬re on there. On Penguin, which we had a small hand in developing, we have a different DC Studios anim at the end. We’re currently working on the DC Studios Elseworlds opening."

The Penguin exists within the Reeves-verse, while Harley Quinn is in another separate universe entirely. It's 🐼likely both will fall under the Elseworlds opening eventually.

While a lot of the focus from fans has been on the development of James Gunn’s DCU proper, which concluded its opening salvo with Creature Commandos season 1 recently and then picks up later this year with Superman, Gunn has also been very open about allowing other ideas to flourish under the 'Elseworlds' banner. That banner applies to The Batman Epic Crime Saga from Matt Reeves and company, which encompasses 2027's The Batman🅘 Part II, as well as HBO's The Penguin. And it applies to one of the last remaining projects from the pre-Gunn era, Harley Quinn on Max.

All three of these have very different takes on Batm💎an, but the key component is that the core of The Dark Knight stays even. The Batman has a dark, gritty, Nirvana-listening Batman earlier in his career in a more grounded setting. But Robert Pattinson is still recognizable as the Bruce Wayne we know and love from the comics, using fear to intimidate criminals until he realizes that his symbol can inspire hope, as well. Harley Quinn season 5 meanwhile finds Bruce (Diedrich Bader) entirel♚y out of costume, and on a spiral of self-doubt. But he’s capable in a fight, earnest about justice, and of course, has his Bat-family and those wonderful toys.

Meanwhile, the Batman present in Creature Commandos isn't more than a cameo – he’s seen once dead in a vision of the future, which doesn’t really count – but it's a lightning crash on the rooftop shot right out of Batman: The Animated Series. We don’t have a live-action DCU Batman cast as 𝓀of yet, but that one shot is enough to provi🌄de a shorthand for what the DCU's take could be.

A flourishing multiverse

And there's not only space for all of these takes, each individual project is stronger for allowing the specific Batman to fit the project, not jamming one take into each for the sake of continuity. Would Battinson work in Harley Quinn? Sure, they could have fun with his self-seriousness. But the strength of the animated show is that it walks the line between skewering these icons while still loving the source material and paying tribute to what makes these heroes (and villains) great. Harley Quinn’s Bruce works for the flow of the plot and ensemble of characters far better than the focus-grabbing take from the Reeves movie. Harley's Batman is a supporting character; The Batman's is… Well, it’s right ther🌠e in the title.

More to the point, there’s been a lot of discussion 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:about putting Pattinson in𝓡to the DCU. And while that could work as well (and could happen, eventually), Reeves is clearly building a very different, more down-to-earth world than the fantastical, superhero-filled one Gunn is crafting in Creature Commandos, Superman, and beyond. Space for everyone

It’s a much more straightforward take on the character, but per the main characters of the show being Harley Quinn (Kaley Cuoco) and Poison Ivy (Lake Bell), he’s a little dimmer and more naive than he is in the comics or other media. Like Batman, Superman steps back to allow the other characters to shine. While we’ve only seen a short tea🉐ser tꩲrailer for David Corenswet’s Superman on the big screen… it’▨s not taken from the animated series. The movie is titled Superman, he’s the main character, and Corenswet and company will forge their own take on the Man of Steel.

No viewers of Harley Quinn are going to be confused when Corenswet shows up, or vice versa. And viewers of Superman & Lois (now on Max) also should be just fine seeing either version of Superman, as Tyler Hoechlin has formed his own take on Clark Kent and Superman as a family man. All of them are recognizably Superman, but each fits the projecಞ✱t they appear in.

That’s great, actually. While other franchises struggle under the incre♔asing weight of more and more continuity, driving casual viewers away as things start to feel like homework, over in the DCU multiverse if you like your Batman serious, goofy, or TBD, there’s a choice for you – with no pressure or need to check out any of the other projects, other than the fact that they’re all very well made. And coming up, we’ve got an animated/puppet version of some of these characters in Dynamic Duo, a DCU villain’s eye view in Clayface, and perhaps even more. Heck, m🗹aybe even a fourth Batman. David Zaslav could only dream.

To her, people are cruel and unstable, often falling prey to their own hubris and desires for power and love. And sure, the same can be said of monsters, but monsters are what The Bride 🐼knows, she understands that kind of chaos. And that's why The Bride was always destined to the leader of the Creature Commandos.

She officially earns this spot in the final episode of the first season⛎ of the show, taking over in the wake of Rick Flag Sr.'s grievous injuries at the hands (well, mud) of Clayface. Flag himself had hinted at her skills before.

Back in the aforementioned fourth episode, just as The Bride disconnects from Flag due to the latter's commitment to the idea that the Princess actually doesn't want to rule the world, he commends her on how well she handled herself, especially among the misfits of the Commandos. The Bride doesn't gleefully accept the complim𝔍ent, but it is an omen that she's meant for much more ♎than simply being an outsider among outsiders.

A unique kinship

This kinship with the group, one based on her inherent insig🧔ht into what it's like to shunned by the rest of the world, develops over the course of the season. It's mainly displayed through her relationship with Nina, the aquatic team member who is hesitant to not just get her hands dirty in combat, but fears any confrontation at all, even within the group.

The Bride understands that – she was violently awakened after being pieced together by a scientist, 🌊a scientist that she eventually grew to love. And after that scientist's gruesome death at the hands of hi🐓s other, more jealous creation, she was thrust out into a cold world. She grasps the feeling of being lost and her confidence is empowering to the group's wayward souls.

It's a specific type of confidence that Rick Flag Sr. lacks. Flag is certainly battle ready. He's trained to be a soldier and to lead a group, but he isn't quite prepared to deal with the Creature ﷽Commandos, one that requires a bit more freakish fi💧nesse.

And in the end, he places his trust in the Princess, partially because she isn't inhuman and doesn't wear her monstrous side on her sleeve and face. She's normal and comfor൩ting amid the squabble of a bunch of DC Comics oddballs being forced to work together, leading to her being able 🎉to seduce and betray Flag fairly easily.

Amanda Waller, who has more of a history of putting these types of teams togetܫher, knows that Flag is a great leader of men. But whenever she plays referee between his wishes and the reality of the situation, the conversations seem to indicate that he's a poor handler ✤of monsters.

You wanted monsters... you got monsters

For guiding monsters requires a specific touch that The Brid🌸e is able to deliver. Her bluntness earns the respect of Dr. Phosphorus, a guy who indulges himself in all manner of horrific deeds. The same went൲ for Weasel, who follows her around with ease. Nina found her to be a kind of gruff older sister and the other inmates at the ARGUS facility were quick to fall in line whenever she commanded (or showed a display of strength).

But perhaps her most intuitive moment was gunning down Eric Frankenstein the second she saw him in the season finale. Flag had attempted to reason with Frankenstein and turn him into an ally, even when the big guy was obviously deluded. The Bride understood that he was beyond repro👍ach and that he saw the rest of the world as only a means to his obsessive ends.

The Bride is far from a perfect leader – as the madame of the brothel that the Bride and Nina hide out in in the s🐲ixth episode says, The Bride can only handle the world through violence. It is her answer to everything, meaning that she's ill-equipped for any scenario that might not require a terse word and a fist to the face. For the show's second season, with the Bride now put into a firm leadership pos👍ition, some personal growth in that area might be in order.

But right now, she's the best hope that the Creature Commandos have, especially while Flag is in recovery. Bride doesn’t fully trust Waller (a smart move) and, more importantly, doesn't trust humanity at l♏arge. And considering how putting total faith in people despite the pleas of the more abnormal characters turned out in the first season, The Bride might be able to help them avoid making such mistakes going forward.

No, not all humans are bad. As we see in Creature Commandos, there are good people, whole families, that want to ꦛfind peace. But we also saw that, in the end, you don't send a man to do a monster's job.

Creature Commandos star Maria Bakalova says that even though her character Princess Ilanaꦅ was, well, a morally corrupt villain, she still didn't want her to meet her end, ไbeing shot by an angry Bride.

"I mean, that's a really bad way to be killed, like, straight in the head. I know they... Look, I support the idea that violence is never the answer," Bakalova tells GamesRadar+. "S🌟o even though we know she's the villain and we know she's probably having some horrifying ideas about what to turn her country into if she takes on the chair and starts leading. I'm a believer that it can always change as you can always make them do different things, better things, and not go with violence and domination because that's what she wants."

In the finale, Bakalova's character Princess Ilana Rostovic is revealed to be the true villain after all. Circe's prediction that Ilana is planning to start WWIII is largely dismissed until security camera footage reveals that the princess was working with none other than notorious Batman villain Clayface to frame Circe. Before that reveal, however, Amanda Waller had called off the team's plannౠed assassination of Ilana.

But the team didn't receive the call in time and Ilana kills Nina Mazursky in self-defense. Stricken with grief and now informed about Ilana🐠's true plans, the Bride shoots her dead point blank in the face.

Bakalova cotninues: "She just wants control over everybody. Maybe if she was sat down by Rick, maybe if she had a conversation with somebody else, maybe it could have been different b𒐪ecause it's not a happy ending story. I'm biased.🅷 Maybe I'm biased. I didn't want her to die."

Creature Commandos star Maria Bakalova discusses how she's never played a villain before being ca🌳st as an original character in James Gunn's first DCU project, portraying Princess Ilana in Creature Commandos.

"I knew from the beginning that James was writing something original, an original character that was going to be blended with the creatures𝓰 of that universe. I knew that she was gonna be this femme-fatale princess. That's all I knew. And then💞 I got to read it, and I was like, 'oh, okay, so she’s the villain'," Bakalova tells GamesRadar+.

The actor plays Princess Ilana Rostovic, the heir to the throne of a country called Pokolistan. Gunn reportedly created the original character, who does not come from any comic books, with Bakalova 🉐in mind. Pokolistan is loosely based on Bulgaria, whꦡere Bakalova is from.

In the series, the Creature Commandos are tasked with keeping the princess safe - though Rick Flag ♓Sr. gets a little too involved and the two strike up a romance that just ends up being a distraction from the task at hand. After six twist-y and turn-y episodes, the finale reveals that Ilana was the true villain all along.

"She’s manipulative because, even when you watch the show throughout, like, the last 20, 30 minutes, you're still completely convinced that she is the real on𓂃e. She's the real one. And the🦩n in the last 5, 10 minutes, you actually realize that, okay, we did see her with Clayface, we did see her basically creating this whole backstory. And it's like, why? Why did she have to do that?"

Bakalova continues: "But it's always more exciting, I feel like. Maybe not more, but just at least as equally exciting for actors to portray villains because, you know, in the beginning, maybe they were just normal people, people that seem very fine. Then something changed their approach to life. And I can only imagine what she's been throꦺugh and how she got to that point, but it's pretty cool that she's the villain. I've never played the villain before, in any movie. I’ve always been pretty much a survivor."

As they move through the castle, taking down guards left and right. Rick Flag Sr. is hospitalized after his episode 5 fight with Clayface, but Eric Frankenstein makes it out unharmed. Believing that Clayface was working with Circe to frame Ilana, he shows up to tell the Bride that she’s making a mistake by killing the princess. Before he can deliver the news, the Bride shoots him dead.

Ilana decides to go for her morning swim in the moat in front of her castle, despite the guards urginꦬg her not to. Naturally, the Bride tasks the amphibious Nina Masursky to carry out the assassination. Meanwhile, Waller and John Economos pay a visit to the home of Aisla MacPherson, the expert that Waller consulted about Circe’s vision, and find her dead. It turns out that Clayface was, after presumably killing her, posing𒀰 as Aisla. Upon discovering this, Waller tries to contact the team in order to call off the mission. It’s too late, however, with the Creature Commandos continuing their mission and the princess killing Nina in self-defense.

The Bride, angry and distraught, confronts Ilana and in a shocking twist, it’s revealed that the princess was walking through the castle halls with none other than Clayface. The Bride explains that, upon realizing the team was set out to assassinate her, Ilana recruited Clayface to kill and pose a🦩s Aisla in order to frame Circe. The Bride very calmly and cooly shoots Ilana in the face, killing her instantly. The Bride exits the castle with﷽ Weasel and Doctor Phosphorus at her side.

The Bride returns to Belle Reve, with John Economos walking her to a separate wing in the institution that houses the new Creature Commandos - including a n🔯ewly reconstructed GI Robot and a few monsters including King Shark.

Because if there are two things James Gunn has proven he's great at in superhero storytelling, it's bringing together a group of misfit anti-heroes who gradually reveal their hearts of gold as they become an unlikely family, and torturing m꧙y emotions.

See, I just watched episode 4 of Creature Commandos, 'Chasing Squirrels,' which digs into the backstory of the notoriously animalistic Weasel, showiꦗng the real truth behind the child murders of which he's accused. And goodness gracious, I don't think I've cried this much over an irascible anthropomorphic animal since Rocket's brutally sad backstory in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Here's your customary spoiler warning as I explain exactly why this episode is so heart-wrench༺ing🤪.

In 'Chasing Squirrels,' we flashback to Weasel's pre-Task Force X days, when he was living in the wilderness. We catch up to him spying on a group of children playing on their school's p⛄layground, when the kids catch sight of Weasel. Though it first seems like he might be a threat to them, given his reputation as a child murderer, instead he starts playing with them, quickly bonding with the children.

Things go awry when they realize their school is actually unlocked and they begin playing inside. The kids wind up the basement with Weasel, where a groundskeeper spots them all frolicking inside the school. Mistaking Weasel as being a da༒nger to the kids, he follows them in with his gun, leading to a series of events in which the school's boiler explodes, burning most of the kids alive as Weasel desperately tries to save them.

It gets even sadder, and of course, Weasel, who has done no actual wrong and who is incapable of defending himself, is captured by the police and blamed for the tragedy, leading to his enlistment into Task Force X in The Suicide Squad, and his return in Creature Co𝓡mmandos.

I'm admittedly a little bit sensitive when it comes to kid🥂s and animals in danger, but jeez louise… poor Weasel and his little pals. First my special guyܫ GI Robot gets blasted into smithereens, now this?

It's the most gut-wrenching story yet in a series that is shaping up to be all about how tragedy and trauma shape our perceptions, and who among us ⛦in society is dubbed a "monster" and why. In other words, it's exactly the kind of story that Gunn and his co-creators excel in telling.

I've been laying it on pretty thick here, but it's the powerful emotional dichotomy of showing us a little monster guy who makes no sense and then showing us exactly how he reflects our humanity and our fragility that made The Suicide Squad work so well, which made Peacemaker such a terrific fo♋llow-up, and which is perhaps most effective yet in Cr🎐eature Commandos.

So yes, please, James Gunn, stop breaking my heart. Or, you could ignore🌃 my fraught emotional state, my abiding pleas, and continue on filling your little superhero shows and movies with a deeper emotional core that gives them a special resonance and a viewing quality beyond all the cool guys flying around. I guess you know best at this point.

Franklin John Rock, who debuted in 1959's Our Army at War #89 by writer Robert Kanigher and artist Joe Kubert after a few similar prototype charဣacters, would go on to become one of the most popular war comic heroes of all time.

In his civilian life, Rock is usually depicted as a steel mill worker in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, who enlists in the US Army after the Japanese attack on🐼 Pearl Harbor, the event that spurred the United States to enter WWII after starting out as a nominally neutral nation. From there, Rock goes on to become the leader of Easy Company, his band of soldiers who also appear in Creature Commandos episode 3.

Though the adventures of Sgt. Rock and Easy Company were initially set in a fictionalized version of the real world, rather than the DC Universe, over the years, the character and his troops were e𒊎ventually brought into the official DC timeline, crossing over with the WWII-era heroes of the Justice Society and other DC characters.

And while there is one version of Sgt. Rock's story that says his life ended when he was shot by the last enemy bullet fired at the last battle of WWII, a rebooted version of his timeline includes him going on to have post-war adventures alongside Batman, Superman, and even the Suicide Squad. He even fought against zombies in the 2022 DC horror comic Sgt. Rock Vs. The Army of the Dead, which was actually written by fan-favorite actor (and experienced zombie fighter) 𒅌Bruce Campbell.

Interestingly enough, Sgt. Rock and GI Robot really don't have much shared comic history, despite both being WWII-era heroes. But that shared connection makes their crossover in Creature Commandos make perfect sense -⛎ and provides a bit of excitement for old-school DC fans who will recognize Sgt. ꦑRock and Easy Company.

It also raise꧙s the question of whether the Sgt. Rock of Creature Commandos and the one who could potentially be played by Daniel Craig will be one and the same, and if so, if GI Robot could in fact show up in a live action Sgt. Rock film - or even some version of the Suicide Squad, given his comic history.

DC Studios Co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran have expressed a desire to have actors who portray the voices of characters in animation play them in live action and vice versa, a rule which could be broken early on if Daniel Craig takes on the role of Sgt. Rock, as the character is voiced in Creature Commandos by actor Maury Sterling. But it's hard to not give them some leeway, considering Craig's apparent Sgt. Rock film, which is to be directed by Luca Guadagnino, didn't apparently enter into the equation ꦛuntil long after Creature Commandos 💞was already completed - and it's not even fully official yet.

Whatever happens, the groundwork to include a hero like Sgt. Rock in the live-action side of the new cinematic DC Universe is already laid as of Creature Commandos season 3. And with an actor like Daniel Craig potenti🐼ally in the mix, along with a director as skilled as Luca Guadagnino, it's hard not to think about the possibili𒉰ties for a totally different kind of superhero war movie.

But the Bride fell in love with Victor instead, and Eric killed him in retribution. Since then, the Bride and Eric have had a rivalry that has spanned hundreds of years, in which he pursues her affections and she tries to kill him.

But they're ambushed at the castle by Circe and her soldiers, the Sons of Themiscyra, who beat them mercilessly and leave them for dead, as the rest of the Cr𒆙eature Commandos speed to their rescue. The episode ends on a cliffhanger, wi♋th Nina and the Bride's survival unclear.

Creature Commandos episode 3, 'Cheers to the Tin Man,' digs into GI Robot's history as an experimental creation of the US Army during WWII with a lust for killing Nazis that extends into the present day.ꦉ Alongside this delve into GI Robot's backstory, Flag and t🎃he rest of Task Force M rush to rescue the injured Bride and Nina, only to realize the whole thing wound up being an excuse by Circe to draw them away from the castle so she could launch a surprise attack on the princess.

Creature Commandos episode 4, 'Chasing Squirrels,' digs into 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Weasel's tragic backstory, while also establishing that Pr♑incess Ilana may in fact be a threat to world peace. Episode 3: Cheers to the Tin Man

• These soldiers are Sgt. Rock and Easy Company, DC's most famous war hero character and his men. Daniel Craig is in talks to make a Sgt. Rock movie with Challengers director Luca Guadagnino, but it's actor Maury Sterling who voices him here.
• The scientist who studies (and upgrades) GI Robot is Doc Magnus (voiced by Alan Tudyk), an expert in artificial intelligence from comics who is also the creator of the superhero robots known as the Metal Men. Their symbols can even be seen drawn on his chalkboard when he mentions "the next wave of automatons." Seems like the seed of a future DC Studios project if ever there was one.
• It's very funny that the Sons of Themiscyra logo says "SofT".
• GI Robot's new "owner" is voiced by frequent James Gunn collaborator Michael Rooker.
• I'll be honest, I'm not sure which movie they're watching.

Creature Commandos has arrived, and it's introduced us to a brand new crop of a characters - some of which are making their first-ever appearance outside of the comics. The animated series marks the first entry in James Gunn and Peter Safran's brand new DCU, making it canon - meaning that we'll see these characters again in live-action projects down the line. Episodes 1 and 2 introduce us to the So🔯ns of Themyscira, a group of villains who are very different in the show from their coꦚmic book counterparts.

Who are the Sons of Themyscira in Creature Commandos?

The series opens on a breaking news bulletin about the🔯 Sons of Themyscira crossing into a nation known as Pokolistan, working on behalf of a "rogue" Amazonian Sorceress known as Circe. Circe, the news anchor explains, claims to be the heir to the throne of the "perhaps mythical, perhaps real all-female island nation" of Themyscira. Circe has apparently promised the Sons that once the downfall🦩 of Pokolistan is achieved, she will lead them to conquer Themyscira.

One of the Sons tells the news anchor that it's "sexist" for there to be an island where only women can live. Another Son addresses the camera directly and talks about "woke feminists" and "men's rights" being stripped away. Rather than be of a mythical or superhe⛦ro-adjacent nature like their comic book counterparts (which we'll explain below), the sons are an incel terrorist militia. And we're not just speculating, either: Tony Cavalero is credited at the end of episode 2 as "Incel Son."

The sons help Circe stake out the Princess's castle, where the Crea๊ture Commandos are staying. They don't have actual superpowers, which we learn upon the fight scene against the Bride in episode 2.

Who are the Sons of Themyscira in the Wonder Woman comics?

The Sons of Themyscira made their first appearance in 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Wonder Woman Vol 4 #7, which was released back in 2012. In the comics, the Sons are the male children who are abandoned at birth by the Amazons of Themyscira. Since it's an all🦩-female island, men aren't exactly revered or wanted. The sons are put to work by Hephaestus,🦹 who makes an agreement with the Amazons that he would trade weapons made by the Sons. While they don't have superpowers, they are skilled metallurgists and are adept at metal sculpture. They do eventually become soldiers, fighting alongside Wonder Woman herself as heroes.

Though this is a very different origin from their role in Creature Commandos, we can under🎃stand why the concept of "unwanted men" would be fashioned into ꦿsome modern-day woman haters for the new series

Creature Commandos is finally upon us, and so is a new villain that we haven't seen since the 2016 animated series Justi🌳ce League Action. Circe, who fans of DC's live-action adaptations may not be familiar with, is an OG Wonder Woman supervillain who is now canon to James Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU - which means she may very well make a live-action appearance in another DCU project down the line. If you aren't familiar with her and her backstory, we break down her role iꦆn the show and her role in the comics below.

Who is Circe in Creature Commandos?

The series opens on a br🌳eaking news bulletin about the Sons of Themyscira invading a nation known as Pokolistan, acting as a militia group for a "rogue" Amazonian Sorceress known as Circe (voiced by Anna Chalotra). 

C🉐irce, the news anchor explains, claims to be the heir to the throne of the "perhaps mythical, perhaps real all-female island nation" of Themyscira. Circe has supposedly promised the Sons that once the downfall of Pokolistan is achieved, she will lead them to conquer Themyscira - though we know she's just using them to do her bidding, and will most likely dispose of them after. 

Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) explains to Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo) that Pokolistan is an ally of the United States - and that a new task force is needed in order to take Circe do🎃wn. Thus, the Creature Commandos are formed.

In the show, Circe has pink h♊air and a sleek, moꩲdern costume that's a bit similar to that of Starfire from Teen Titans. She has telekinetic powers, is telepathic, and can manipulate people's minds as well as show them the future.

Who is Circe in the Wonder Woman comics?

Circe made her first appearance in Wonder Woman #37 back in 1949. The stunning sorceress was initially created as a Wonder Woman villain, but would go on ဣto terrorize Superman, Supergirl, and a plethora of ot🃏her DC heroes. As a goddess-level sorceress, she possesses telepathy and telekinesis, can turn people into animals, and technically can't die.

Her image has changed multiple times throughout the years, first appearing with blonde hair and flowing red robes in Wonder Woman #37 before going on to don green hair and a wh💖ite gown, black hair and a pink gown, and with different modern comics depicting her hair as either red or purple. In her most recent TV appearance, she donned purple hair and a green bodysuit for Justice League Action.

That look is based on her most well-known incarnation, in the so-called 'Post-Crisi☂s' era of the comics in which almost all of DC's heroes were rebooted in the '80s with new beginnings. This version of the character has become one of Wonder Woman's forꩲemost villains in the years since.

And oꦉf course, the whole character is originally based on the mythological character Circe from The Odyssey, who turns some of Odysseus' men into animals - something her comic book cou🍬nterpart inherited.

Wonder Woman will most likely make an💛 appearance in the new DCU, but it looks like Circe will torture the Creature Commandos in the meantime.

"I never would have guessed James would do an animated show, so that was an amazing surprise. And then the fact that it's kicking off the world was kinda like, wow, those are some pretty high stakes," Agee tells GamesRadar+. "But it's a typical James Gunn project where even though it's animated, James' first priority in any project he does is story and characters. You know, backstory, the heart of these characters, the arts of these characters come before any kind 𒉰of comedy or bꦰefore the action or anything.

"There's a very large blurry line between good and evil, and all these characters have amazing arcs, and that's just been continuous with James, you know, going back to his early projects. I think [Creature Commandos] sets up a world where people can be confident in knowing that [the DCU] is gonna be still very much in the voice of James Gunn. Everything's gonna be okayℱ."

Creature Commandos is the first project to kick off James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DCU slate, with Superman and Peacemaker season 2 to follow. Agee reprises his role as John Economos from The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, jumping back and forth between live-action and animation - because yes, the animated shows in the DCU are all canon (and this means Clayface might very well make a live-action ap𝔍pearance somewhere down the line).

 "Unless something goes terribly awry, I think we'll see a season 2," Grillo tells GamesRadar+. "I'd love to see how it evolves. I'd like to see I'd like to see how t💙hey develop as a team because it takes the whole season for them to be a symbiotic kinda group and just see where it goes. Because it starts with me meeting them and kind of going like, what am I doing? What are these things? And then we become a family."

Grillo plays Rick Flag Sr., the army vet that Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) taps to lead a new team of super-monsters known as the Creature Commandos. Flag is set to appear not only in the new animated series, but in Peacemaker season 2, and the upcoming Superman movie. You might remember that Rick's son Rick Flag Jr.ཧ was killed by Peacemaker in The Suicide Squad, which lets us know that Rick ♒Flag Sr. will be spending his time in the DCU on a mission for revenge.

Creature Commandos marks the beginning of James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DCU, introducing us to a whole new crop of characters that, 🅰despite being animated, will each make live-action appearances as the DC꧙U continues.

Knocking it all down and starting from scratch is no easy task, especially when the “it” in question is the multi-million dollar studio responsible for live-action and animated adaptations of one of the world’s biggest comic book cᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚompanies. I know I’m not the only lifelong DC fan who lost faith after Joss Whedon’s Justice League debacle and gave up entirely after The Flash. James Gunn is goo🧜d at what he does (and his talent pre-dates Guardians of the Galaxy; see also: Scooby-Doo and Slither) but I was admittedly skeptical when he was announced as the new co-CEO of DC Studios. Can a writer/director with a horror background and weird, niche interests save the DC Universe as we know it? Short answer: yes.

The show sees Viola Davis return as Amanda Waller, who, after assembling the Suicide Squad, has another (potentially fatal) idea in mind. She enlists Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo), father of slain Suicide Squad leader Rick Flag Jr., to lead an unconventional team of anti-heroes that is equal parts Halloween and Looney Tunes: half-amphibian half-woman Nina Mazursky (Zoe Chao); Nazi-killing, military android G.I. Robot (Sean Gunn); a Tasmanian Devil-like creature with a heart of gold known as Weasel (also Sean Gunn); a radioactive skeleton in a lab coat named Doctor Phosphorus (Alan Tudyk); and the Bride of Frankenstein herself (Indira Varma). Together, they make a team of morally ambiguous creatures with tragic backstories who, after being thrown in a prison built to hold super freaks and weird⛦os, have absolutely nothing to lose.

Gunn knows his way around a tragic backstory – I still haven’t forgiven him for Guardians of the Galaxy 3 – and these stories are the true core of the series as well as what DC has been missing for quite some time. I didn’t feel bad for Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen, murder and all, nor did I feel it in my heart to root for Ben Affleck’s Batman or Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. But Weasel and his short-term memory loss combined with his undying love for the children who didn’t treat him like a freak? Nina and her father’s unconditional love, despite her apathetic mother and being born different from everyone else? Even the Bride and her backstory that veers off the path from Mary Shelley’s novel and into something of a love triangle between the Doctor and the Monster aka Eric Frankenstein (voiced by none other than David Harbour) – these are the characters we need. They’re weird, they detour from the traditional heroes that people think of when they think of DC, and they feel. There is so much life in these animated characters that I sta🦹rted crying around episode 3 and didn’t stop until the end credits rolled on episode 7.

 A good time, not a long time 

And that’s one of my few gripes with the series: there are only seven episodes, and each episode has a runtime of around 22 minutes. When you do the math, that’s a little over two hours. Most HBO shows are an hour long, but the 60-minute episode format doesn’t always lend itself to animated showsꦛ. Still, I was left wanting more, and it would be a crime for the show not to get a second season. It may be a long wait until it arrives considering it took some three years for Invincible season 2 and we’re still waiting for a positive upda💃te on Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse which might not hit theaters until 2027.

That being said, we also might have to wait a few years for some more character development: I'm not super stoked about what they did with Rick Flag Sr.’s character, or, more specifically, what they didn’t do. Aside from giving him a moral quandary involving one of the show’s most ambiguous and important characters (and a loud, uncomfortable sex scene right out the gate in episode one), we still don’t know much about him by the end of the series. This handsome, grief-stricken military man was hand-selected by Amanda Waller herself to lead the team, and we don’t really get to learn why. The same goes for Steve Agee’s John Economos, who is wildly unꦗderused in the show save🐓 for some funny quips and a helpful factoid here and there. I’m hopeful that a second season of Creature Commandos will rectify this - though, because these characters are canon and will continue onto the live-action projects, we might only have to wait until August 2025 for Peacemaker season 2.

 A morally ambiguous Guardians of the Galaxy 

The tragic backstories of each Creature Commandos member aren't quite comparable to Rocket Raccoon and his upbringing at the evil hands of the High Evolutionary. In fact, I don’t think the early Guardians of the Galaxy comparisons to Creature Commandos are fair, even if it was Gunn who made the comparison inꦇ the 🧜first place. The show isn't, in his words, "less sentimental" than Guardians, it’s just sentimental in a different, less family-friendly way, and 'Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl)' isn’t playing over what’s supposed to be an important and emotional momen𓆏t.

While it’s easy to compare and contrast with Gunn’s other works, Creature Commandos stands on its own. Yes, it’s the same formula that we’ve come to expect from Gunn – a rag-tag group of weirdos who form an unlikely bond and are given the se🐟emingly impossible task of saving the world – but there’s just something different here.

It might be because it’s impossible to watch 🦄without knowing that the series isn’t just some new series; it’s the beginning of a brand new era. There's a certain amount of expectation automatically associated with the show. It w꧙as such a smart choice to start off a brand new slate with such an unconventional project.

It’s easy to get caught up in fan service, just look at Marvel, but Creature Commandos brings the new with just a pinch of the old – and the result is one of the most fun experiences I’ve ever had watching a superhero anything. Though I’m still not totally sold on the sex scenes, this heartwarming, R-rated tale about super-monsters is an explosive first entry in James Gunn’s new slate, and it more than proves that the new DCU is in good hands. I’m ready for more – and Superman can’t come fast enough despite the comparisons to a sp✅eeding bullet.

"John Economos' role in Suicide Squad was a guy in the computer room, and he had some funny stuff, some comic re🐎lief stuff. And my role of King Shark - the motion capture for King Shark was way bigger. I think I worked more days than anybody else on the movie, including Margot, and that was mostly King Shark," Agee tells GamesRadar+.

John Economos is a founding member of ARGUS, the Amanda Waller-led organization responsibl꧒e for assembling the Suicide Squad and the Creature Commandos, and is mostly a lovable nerd who sits behind a computer. After a small role in The Suicide Squad, Agee would play the character on a much bigger scale in Peacemaker - and now in Creature Commandos, making Economos officially canon to the brand new DCU. 

King Shark, however, doesn't look like he's making the crossover, though the add🌟ition of an anthropomorphic shark with superhuman strength does make sense given that the first crop of characters in the new DCU include a robot, a radioactive skeleton in a lab coat, a Tasmanian devil-like weasel, and the Bride of Frankenstein.

"So when he said - again, it wasn't until he had actual scripts done - that we were doing a spin-💮off for Peacemaker and that Economos was part of it, I was shocked, honestly. I was one of the first people that he told about the possibilit🃏y of becoming the head of DC. But at that point, he hadn't figured anything out. So he never mentioned anything about Economos. I kind of know about as much as you do, you know, and he doesn't tell me anything until he's had an idea greenlit and then finished the script. I’m along for the ride."

In Creature Commandos, Flag joins Amanda Waller (Davis) in forming a new, unconventional team of superheroes, and takes over. The role continues on in Peacemaker season 2, where Flag - using his newfound position - will confront Peacemaker once and for all. Flag is also set to make an appearance in Superman, the first feature-length project in Gunn's new DCU, though we don't know exactly how Flag will fit into that world just yet.

Grillo goes on to 🐬confirm that revenge is a big part, if not the main part, of Peacemaker ܫseason 2.

"It really is. It doesn't go without me. I still understand the capacity of which I have to serve this world," Grillo continues. "It's a big responsibility, and so I have to be careful so that it doesn't go too far, which has been fun as an actor to kind of balance that thing. John Cena and I have a pretty serious epic scene that culminates with all this a༺nger."

Tudyk, who voices several characters in the Creature Co🥂mmandos animated series, was revealed as the voice of Clayface in a . Tudyk makes it clear that the Creature Commandos version of Clayface won't have any connection to his hilariously dramatic portrayal of the character on Harleওy Quinn where he's an award winning actor - they're separate versions of the same character.

Clayface was glimpsed briefly in the trailer for Crea✅ture Commandos, but his larger role in the show is still unknown. It's also rumored that a different version of Clayface may be one of the ma♓in villains of The Batman 2, which takes place ou꧒tside of the new cinematic DC continuity.

What this does mean, is that Tu🐻dyk will portray the voice of Clayface in any future appearances set in Gunn and Safran's DCU, be it in animation, live action, or even video games, as is the general policy for the new DCU.

Tudyk also voices main Creature Commando Doctor Phosphorus, a less well-known Batman villain in comics who possesses radioactive powers. The character actually provided the inspiration for classic Batman Beyond big bad Derek P🎃owers/Blight, who shares Phosphorus' radiation powers an🦂d his appearance as a glowing green skeleton.

In terms of DC characters, aside from Clayface, Tudyk is no stranger to the small screen even in lಌive action, having played Mister Nobody, the main villain of the first season of Doom Patrol. 

Premiering on Max December 5, Creature Commandos will be the first official installment of Gunn and Safran's new cinematic DC Universe, to be followed in 2025 by Superman.
