Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) finally gets his happy ending - and I think any lifelong fan of the franchise will agree that it's the perfect way for the show to go out. Before the emotional finale, Johnny finally gets to confront his former sensei Kre𝔍ese (Martin Kove) about the traumatic event that takes place in The Karate Kid 2, after he loses his fight to Daniel LaRusso (Johnny Lawrence). The two make up, and it's a beautiful moment. Little does Johnny know, however, that this will b⛄e the last time he and Kreese will ever see each other.

While Kreese has his epic change of heart, Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) does not. The two battle it out on a yacht and, in true Terry fashion, h𓄧e goes out a villain - evil to the very end.

"You know, the boat explosion. We knew that with Terry and Kr🧸eese that we were headed to an explosive conflict between them. And we thought that was the most dramatic way to go out: with Sensei Kreese finally stepping up in the ways that he hadn't in the past for Johnnಞy in the most dramatic way possible."

"When we entered into Cobra Kai, we weren't guaranteed that Thomas Ian Griffith was gonna return to acting or anything. So, you hope fo🌄r things and then you find out what the reality is and then you make the best story. Our hope is that there's more Karate Kid stories in the future. There's more 🌳opportunities to see Julie Pierce maybe in a different iteration or story. But it wasn't gonna happen with this season."

"I think what I love about the end of the series is it really feels like a big '80s Karate Kid movie, like a really good Karate Kid movie with all the feels, cheers, te💟ars, the 'F yeah!' moments." "I remember seeing [the first film] for the first time in a theater, and people came out of their seats and were high-fiving their neighbors, and people they never met before. "It has the signature that the Cobra Kai series has created, but it never leaves the themes of what the Karate Kid was," Macchio coꦗntinues. "And I'm really glad it landed that way. And these guys did a beautiful job. J💖ohn, Josh, and Hayden really did."

You might remember that The Karate Kid, which first hit theaters in 1984, sees Daniel LaRusso (Macchio) go up against misguided bully Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) in an intense karate tournament under the sensei-ship of a one Mr.💮 Miyagi (Pat Morita).

Cobra Kai, which takes place some 40 years after the first movie, instead sees Daniel and Lawrence open up dueling karate dojo꧂s – though it doesn't take long for the two to put decades-old differences aside and become best friends.

At the end of the first movie, Daniel gets his big moment: defeating Johnny in the tournament. At the end of ⛎Cobra Kai, Johnny gets his – and defeats Sensei Wolf (Lewis Tan) in the tie-breaking final round of the Sekai Taikai (I promise you will cry your eyes out).

"I think, when you're wrapping up a giant karate soap opera that we've been on a six-season journey with, there's so many characters that you want to tie up, and from the very beginning, we would take some episodes anꦿd highlight certain characters and others," showrunner John Hurwitz tells GR+. "We took the approach of, in the final five episodes, not trying to tie everything up all at once in one episode, but spread it throughout, give everyone their big, climactic moment."

Every character does, indeed, get their big climactic moment throughout the final five episodes – wit🤪h even Chozen from The Karate Kid 2 getting his own happy ending. Franchise villains Terry Silver and John Kreese definitely get an ending... but we wouldn't call it happy. Luckily, Johnny gets his well-deserved moment with Kreese, some 30 years in the making, as well as one final, beautiful moment with Daniel that echoes back to the first 💝movie.

Continues Hurwitz: "That's one of the reasons why we wanted to do 15 episodes in our final season, so that we had the real estate to spend a little bit of time, and we definitely wanted to finish where we started with Daniel and Johnny as the two main🐭 characters that we spent the most time on in the early couple of episodes."

"That's been the gift that keeps on giving with this, being involved in this film franchise and this series and everything else. To have 8-year-old kids and 80-year-old grandparents all enjoying a piece of this, of this story over these years and gaining different things from it, whether it be nostalgia or new relevant stories going forward, it's always been positive," Macchio adds. "It's always about overcoming obstacles, wish fulfillment, aspirations, storytelling, mentorship. It's a genuine, big, fat, warm embrace and in a world that isn't always warm and embracing. So I really feel blessed, privileged, and, and ho✃nored to be, you know, carrying a piece of that torch. It's really quite unique."

"I entertain myself a lot and then I end up telling [the cast] about this stuff and they all just sit there and go, okay. But I'm like, did you guys see that?" Mouse❀r tells GamesRadar+. It's ultimately Terry Silver, the antagonist of The Karate Kid 3 who also becomes a sensei at Cobra Kai, who makes Tory feel used and unintentionally pushes her to leave the dojo and join Miyagi-Do with Sam.

"Yeah, they pranked me on set," List revꦓeals. "Thomas, who plays Terry Silver, he told me, oh yeah, 'They're writing it that I'm your father [in season four]. And so I believed him for pretty much that whole season. I thought that was really farfetched, but Thomas Ian Griffith is] so believable when he commits to a bit - he’s so genuine."

"But I have loved that since we've kind of gotten to prove our medal, we've never lost that core fan base. We've gotten to grow and bring people to the original fཧranchise. I'm a fan girl myself for a lot of different things and have been a part of fandoms where people aren't that welcoming of new fans where they're like, 'No, you weren't here for day one,' or, 'You don't know the hardships as a fan of blah blah blah.' That was day one when this was pitched to me. I said, I need that to not be forgotten because without that, none of this exists, meaning that character of Miyagi and that perfo✱rmance by him. So I enjoy honoring those who are no longer with us that helped, create this franchise."

Continues Macchio: "And I feel, I guess I would say a responsibility, but I take pride in making s꧑ure, or at least letting my voice be heard, of the importance of that in honor of them. I'd like to believe he'd be proud of me for that part."

With the series following a group of filmmakers as they attempt to b🌳ring the latest superhero movie in a huge franchise to life, we meet several producers, with a figure named Shane being the big boss. Essentially, Shane is The Franchise's take on MCU head honcho Kevin Feige.

However, Lolly Adefope, who plays third assistantꦺ director Dag, offers another, perhaps more intriguing, idea adding: "It would be cool if Shane was a woman."

And then we finally crack it, as Darren Goldstein (who appears as studio representative Pat) offers: "You know who would be a great Shane? It turns out that Shane is a woman and it's Olivia Colman." The star of The Crown and Heartstopper certainly seems like a perfect fit – so HBO, make it h൲appen!

In fact, as showrunner Jon Brown tells us, there is already the idea to cast Shane for a potential second season. Continuing, he admits that the initial plan was that we would meet the b💝oss this season, but feeling the pressure with the expectation surrounding the casting, they instead decided to keep it a mystery for now.

However, Brown is adamant that will change sho🍨uld The Franchise be renewed: "We talked about it at one point, we were going to meet him in episode 8, but it felt tricky. Casting that role would have been hard as it's a relatively smal𝔍l part but the expectation is quite big, so you would want someone to show up that had some status, felt big enough.

"In a way I deferred that for later, kept the powder dry, in season 2 we would want to meet him, I wouldn't want to hold off on it forever. But casting that part will be tough. Trying to find s🍬omeone who has charisma but is believably of that world. It's tricky and that's why we decided in the end not to do it."

Showrunner Jon Brown adds that creating the Tecto scripts was the best part of the job when in the writers' room – and it also helped them overcome issues with writing🍌 the actual Franchise episodes too. 

He adds: "That was probably the most fun we had in the writers' room. If you hit a wall or an episode wasn't working, we went back to the Tecto script. We had a full treatment outline of about 20 to 30 pages, which hit all the key beats of a franchise movie bu🐻t within our Tecto world – and exaggerated, of course. It was a fun experiment to take those familiar shapes and do our own version of it."

Whilst in the writers' room – and even on set – the team also ensured that they were reactive to what was going on in the real world of franchise moviemaking, bringing in ideas as things developed in real life. One great example lies within tᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚhe second episode, where a senior producer tells the Tecto team that the head of the studio wants to make fewer films and shows within the fictional Centuri♛on franchise.

Speaking to GamesRadar+, Brühl (who portrays criminal mastermind Baron Zemo in the MCU) reveals that he drew on a truly terrible experience for his role of Eric, the strugglin♈g director of the next chapter in a huge superhero franchise, titled 'Tecto: Eye of the Storm'. 

Although Brühl won't name the film, he tells us how it was a sinking ship from mi♊nute one, which helped inspire his work on The Franchise, the story of a movie going✨ wrong.

Brühl admits: "Funnily, I wasn't thinking of my two adventures with Marvel for this because🌃 it all pretty much worked. It was a very well oiled machine that never had these mad crazy problems that we are seeing in this show. But I have done a film that I was definitely thinking of that had been a total disaster."

He continues: "The ship slowly sank the minute I arrived basically and there was no way out, so it was so depressing – arriving 𒀰day one and there being no going back, no possibility of saving this thing. I remember my sad, grey face every evening that I came home, looking in front of the mirror, trying to encourage me to survive the rest of the journey."

This wasn't the only thing that inspired Brühl on The💞 Franchise though, as he also drew on his time directing his own feature, a 2021 German comedy-drama titled Next Door. The actor also spoke to James Bond director Sam Mende🀅s, who helmed both Skyfall and Spectre, and is a co-creator of this new show.

Mendes was more than happy to answer Brühl'🅷s questions about directing a franchise blockbuster: "I direc🌼ted one very small film, being in the position of pretending to be the captain of a ship, solving all these problems that always come. That helped and talking to Sam Mendes, asking him all these questions about his experiences in the big world of cinema and the craziness he has had to deal with."

"I think Hawk is at a point where he does know himself very well and I think, you🦹 know, toward♏s the end of the show you just see sort of like full circle. I think. I think almost everyone gets a really, really good ending. And, you know, besides the people who die [laughs], you know, most people get a really, really good ending. And I'm excited to have everyone see where Hawk ends up 'cause there's so much turmoil right now," Bertrand tells GamesRadar+.

When we first met Eli 'Hawk' Moskowitz in Cobra Kai season 1, he was a quiet, mohawk-less kid who was getting bullied pretty hard by his peers. That all changed, however, when he joined the Cobra Kai Dojo (owned by OG Karate Kid character J🌱ohnny Lawrence) and entered his ruthless, revenge arc i.e. "Strike first, no mercy." His arc is not unlike Johnny's arc, who is presented to us as Daniel's main adversary in the first film – but is later revealed to have a heart as the film series continues.

"I don't think Hawk's a bully. I think he has just been misg🌃uided a lot – seasons 2 and 3. I think he was just misguided. He's a, he was like a 15-year-old kid getting manipulated by like a 60-year-old guy. What do you want from this kid? He's super powerful and has a cool mohawk and all the ladies love him. Of course, the power's gonna go to his head a little bit. He can't help it – he just had to come to the good side for a little bit, drink from the Miyagi Do water, trim a couple Bonsai trees, and now he's straight."

In seꦡason 2, Hawk makes Demetri (Gianni Decenzo) his prime bullying target before becoming fully manipulated by Kreese, Johnny's sensei and the primary antagonist of the series. He even goes so far as to vandalize Daniel LaRusso's dojo and steal the Medal of Honor that belonged to the legendary Mr. Miyagi himself. In season 3, Hawk escalates the rivalry between Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do – but eventually ends up saving Demetri in the middle of a pretty violent fight, rekindling their friendship, and g✅oing on to train at the Miyagi-Do. Bertrand, however, wouldn't have minded if Hawk stayed a bully for a little while longer.

"I think me personally, Jacob, the actor, would've loved t💧o have seen how dark Hawk could have gone. But I know that one of the best moments for fans is when Hawk switches back. But personally, I would've loved if Hawk stayed as a villain and started murdering people – that would've been so sick. Obviously, people would've hated that. But I would've loved getting to kill people and break more arms and put people 𝓰in in comas."

The actor also touched on Hawk's surprising loss against Kenny (Dallas Dupree Young), which made sen🦄se in a metaphorical, learning and growing kind of way – but still upset and confused🌠 fans of the show.

"To me, itℱ didn't make any sense [laughs]. But you know, that's your job﷽ as the actor to try to sell it to the best of your ability. I hate seeing my character lose, I'm probably the most competitive and, and put myself so much in the character's shoes that I just hate whenever Hawk loses. The highs are so high, but the lows are so low. I think from that, there is a cool storyline in season five, at the very end when Hawk is talking to Kyler and he's like 'yeah, dude, sometimes you fucking lose and you just gotta move on."

One of the overarching themes in the Karate Kid franchise is "Sometimes when🎉 you lose, you win" – something that Bertrand acknowledges.

"That's a part of life. You lose, you get back up, you try again. I think that's cool. I think him losing to Keꦕnny makes no sense. But a cool lesson came out of it꧂ for all the kids watching at home."
