The Death Note Netflix trailer has arrived and fans aren't happy about it (except for Willem Dafoe, he's cool)
Netflix has shared the first trailer for its live-action film adaptation of Death Note, starring a dude with frosted tips as the main character and Willem Dafoe as his demon friend. The Death Note manga series already inspired an anime series as well as several Japanese-language live-action films, and the reaction from fans to its major American adaptation has been&helli🔜p; well, see for yourself.

Netflix'🐓s death note: hey I'm brad yagami, just your aver🅘age highschool student with a not so average deadly secret [the icarly theme plays]
Can I be honest tho? I was really hoping for an Asian male lead 😔 @PeterSAdrian would've killed it as Light #DEATHNOTE

At least we can agree on one "pro"
On the positive side for the Death Note li💜ve action, I'm 99% sure Willem Dafoe will slay his role as Ryuk pic.twitter.com/vOEWI0YMNe
Netflix's Death note se🌺ems like it'🦋ll br corny but William Dafoe as Ryuk is awesome pic.twitter.com/7ITCvXyqQ5
Death Note came and went during my "new anime is bad" period so I don't have much attachment t🦋o it (FYI, I'm currently back to "alright some new anime is ok") but it's a bummer to see so many fans aren't feeling it. Even if it'sꦬ too late to address a bunch of the Netflix adaptation's potential problems, culturally speaking, hopefully it can still tell an interesting story.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life๊, its stu🐬dent-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
