Striking Gold

It was hardly the sort of star-studded bash that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association would have wished𝓰 for, but the Golden Globes still went ahead… Albeit in one-hour press-conference form.

And that, of course, means there were winners. Some were predictable – Atonement scored the dramatic Best Picture award to very little surprise, while Away From Her’s Julie Christie and There Will Be Blood’s Daniel Day-Lewis walked away with the Best Actor and Actress gongs in drama.

There were a few surprises – Sweeney Todd scooped a win in the Musical Or Co🐻medy category out from under the more speculated likes of Juno and Charlie Wilson’s War, with Johnny Depp nabbing the Best Actor In ♛A Musical Or Comedy. And in a strong field with little to choose between the talent on show, The Diving Bell And The Butterfly director Julian Schnabel took the Best Director Trophy.

Less surprising was Marion Cotillard’s win for La vie En Rose in Best Actress (Musical Or comedy) and Ratatouille taking Best Animated feature. But when your competition✃ is the patchy iജf fun Simpsons Movie and Bee Movie.

The supporting actor categories, of course, don’t get separated into drama or musical/comedy (for some odd reason). Still, Javier Bardem and Cate Blanchett scored those awards. Try to look shocked, there… B💖ut while plen🅘ty of bets were on Diablo Cody’s Juno script snatching the scripting prize, the Coen brothers took it with No Country For Old Men. Still, we have a feeling Cody will be back one day…

Finally, because no one got to make a speech tonight, we’ve had one prepared. We’d like༺ to thank our mum, the cat... (That’🐓s enough – Ed.)
