Pornokitsch to announce the winners of the 2011 Kitschies at the Weekender

Popular online literary awards revealed on Friday 3 February at the SFX event

For those not in the know, the Kitschies exist to reward books that “elevate the tone of geek culture” – books that are progressive, intelligent and entertaining. What makes them different to Genero-blog Award X is that Kitschies aren’t handed out willy-nilly. There are only two regular prizes – The Red Tentacle (the novel which best fulfils the above criteria) and The Golden Tentacle (for a debut novel). A special award, The Black Tentacle, is handed out to a piece of work which doesn’t fit the Kitshies criteria, but deserves recognition, at the discretion of Pornokitsch editors Anne Perry and Jared Shurin. The 2011 awards will also see the introduction of 🎃The Inky Tentacle, celebrating the year’s finest cover art. The judging panel for the 2011 Red and Golden Tentacle awards include Perry, Shurin, Zoo City author and writer Rebecca Levene.

In other words, the Kitschies - which are sponsored☂ by - are a big deal for SF fiction. We're honoured to partner with the much-admired site to announce them as part of the Weekender, and it reflects our ongoing intention to support the wider SF community.
