New Gears of War 3 trailer is predictably maudlin. Unpredictably, is that General Raam?

Beautifully chorographed, bleak CGI of Marcus and co. getting their arses kicked in a long, drawn-out way? Check. Maudlin, slightly incongruous contemporary soundtrack with a modicum of arty, indie-cred to emphasise how poetic and sad the oh-so-poetic-and-sad game really is, underneath all the curb-stomping and chainsaw dismemberment? Check. Ominous cut to black at the dramatic cli𓆉max? Check also. Yep, this is a Gears of War trailer alright. It has passed all mandatory checks, and is now ready for your consumption. So consume.

But while none of the above elements might be surprising🐓, what certainly is surprising - unless I'm very much mistaken - is what looks to be the appearance of long-since-offed Gears 1 bad guy General Raam leading the Locust charge at the beginning. Take a look, and we will discuss.
