Dig a little deeper, however, and you suddenly realize you should be paying closer attention to this one. Based on a darkly funny, moving 12-issue series from writer Tom King, Mister Miracle is a twisted, towering modern masterpiece I'd put above even the likes of Watchmen for the impression it left on me as a reader, 🍸the way it pushes the boundaries – sometimes quite literally – of the comic medium, and the vivid mirror it holds up to the human (and Apokoliptan) condition.

In it, Mister Miracle (moonlighting on Earth as escapologist Scott Free) sees his violent past on Apokolips crash into his life of domestic bliss with wife Big Barda. Where some superhero adventures trade in big battles, Mister Miracle is altogether quieter, touching on mental health﷽, PTSD, and the unseen scars left by trauma. If that doesn't sell you, the show's logline teases something altogether more imp♍ossible and intriguing: “No prison can hold him. No trap can contain him. He is Scott Free, the worldwide celebrity sensation known as Mister Miracle, and he is the greatest escape artist who ever lived. But can he pull off the ultimate trick – and escape death itself?”

At its heart, too, is a mystery that rivals Inception in terms of how you'll be combing through every frame and eager to devour any fan theories about just what goes down in its final 𒆙pages and panels.

To say too much else would spoil a story that deserves to be read through fresh eyes. I envy you for getting to doꦇ just that. Just know that Mister Miracle is a stone-cold classic – and one that has me feeling extremely confident that DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran know exactly what they're doing in their brave new world as they step up against the mighty MCU.

Miracle worker

Why? You only need to look at who is involved. The comic's writer, Tom King, is heading the series up as showrunner. DC's approach under Gunn has been creator-first compared to Marvel (Kiꩲng is also heavily involved in the Lanterns HBO series). By contrast, Marvel Studios is content with throwing its comic creators – their work so frequently a foundation for the MCU – a 'Special Thanks' credit. But by getting comic creators in on the ground floor, DC can tap into why we all fell in love with the medium in the first place, rather than being a pale imitation of the cacophony of color and chaos inkꦚed across decades.

Speaking of color, Mister Miracle is proof enough that DC Studios under James Gunn is championing animation, and this is very well suited to it. There are no square pegs in round holes here: if it works best in animation, it's going to be animated. Mister Miracle will also be a truly adult animation, one where adult isn't just a byword for blood, sex, and swearing. That will hopefully usher in a new age of storytellers gravitating towards the format for the opportunity to tell th꧑eir stories as if they were a comic book come to life.

This is the perfect way to put that philosophy to the test – by introducing the biggest of Big Bads in the fringes of a show that might not immediately catch the eye.

The personal touch with Mister Miracle, too, resonates far more effectively than some nebulous force that wants to conquer Earth with the equally abstract Anti-Life Equation. It's a mistake the DCEU made, but one, seemingly, the DCU doesn't care to repওeat.

Sometimes, those have paid off – season 2's 'Those Old Scientists' was a winning crossover with the Lower Decks animated series, while others haven't quite landed. The ideas are bigger and punchier, the character work more considered.

Into darkness...

The season naturally opens with 'Hegemony, Part II' – the conclusion to season 2's climactic tussle with the Gorn. That episode had a to🐻ugh, dangerous tone which carries over here. Indeed, it's a remarkably tense start to the season and a conscious throwback to the Next Generation and Deep Space Ninꦚe days, when a much-hyped new run of episodes would start with an episode that was absolutely impenetrable to anyone who hadn't seen the previous instalment.

That's no bad thing, however. A big 'ol cliffhanger is a beloved Trek staple, and the payoff here was worth the wait. It's al❀so true that while Strange New Worlds loves to get silly, it's often at its best when telling slightly grittier stories. Logically (and try not to read that in ❀Spock's voice), we know that most of these people will be fine – the majority of the main cast here are Original Series characters, after all – but the show wrings a lot of tension out of us not knowing the fates of several crucial members of the bridge crew.

The third episode, 'Shuttle to Kenfori', continues this more serious tone as it pairs up Pike and Babs Olusanmokun's emotionally conflicted Doctor M'Benga for an away mission gone wrong. This is an♒other high-concept episode of sorts, one that effectively melds Star Trek with a familiar horror sub-genre to great effect.

It isn't all darkness and trauma, however. Episode 2, 'Wedding Bell Blues' introduces Rhys Derby as... well, we can't get into tha𓃲t here, except to say that it's a very fun performance. The episode spins the focus back on Spock and Christineꦅ Chapel's relationship in a way that's both amusing and tinged with melancholy.

Episode 4, 'A Space Adventure Hour,' meanwhile, borrows a popular Next Generation episode format, but uses it to make a bunch of metatextual gags. Not in itse꧅lf a bad thing, but given that Strange New World's great strength has always been its accessibility, I did find myself wondering during the gaudy, fan-teasing cold open what exactly a new viewer would make of th🍷is show.

Still boldly going

Episode five, 'Through the Lens of Time', is the best episode of this first batch, and one that is perhaps hinting towards future plans for the show. Playfully pinching from Raiders of the Lost Ark, it's a tense tale of an away te✤am investigating an ancient alien civilization and biting off more than they can chew. This episode in particular leans into the growing relationships (of all kinds, not just romantic) between the characters. Strange New Worlds has always benefited from the charisma of its cast, but this time around, it really feels as if everyone has locked into place in a really satisfying way.

Sadly, as I was writing this review, the news broke that 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Strange New Worlds will end with a shorter fifth season. No date has been given for that as yet – we've still got all of seasons 3 and 4 to come firs🎶t – but we're probably looking at late 2027, or perhaps even 2028, before the Enterprise completes its five-year mission.

The episode (according to ) takes us back to 1260 B.C, where a former Dora Milaje and Wakandan secret agent, Noni (voiced by Winnie Harlow) is tasked with tracking down a defector to the nation known as Lion (Cress Williams). This traitor to Noni's homeland has snatched up Wakandan tech and used it to become a pirate and form a kingdom of his own. Unbeknownst to Lion, his actions will have a knock-on effect that will echo through the ages, changing the path of Wakanda forever. This pivotal event backs up the original reveal that Eyes of Wakanꦉda will connect to the MCU more than any other animated show.

The show will span four episodes, with each chapter focusing on a different artefact taken from Wakanda, seeing where it ends up and how it impacts those who have it. The interesting nugget that Harris revealed was 🅠that along the way, “There will be an Iron Fist in here, and not the Iron Fist you expect.”

It sounds like Harris's show will also handle topics that were present in the first Black Panther movie, regarding the nation and T'Challa's (Chadwick Boseman) apprehension to expose itself to the world it has stayed ⛄secret from for so long. “Stillness is a difficult thing, and Wakanda by definition has remained the same. Staying still 𒆙against the current takes energy – so what are they willing to do to remain that way, to not over-expand?”

It should hardly come as a surprise, given the immense praise it receiv❀ed🅰 from critics upon release. During the week o🌸f May 12, the gripping Star Wars drama series racked up an incredible 931 million minutes of viewing. Those numbers continued to grow by 101 minutes week to week, leading into the show’s finale. The closest contender to try to knock Cassian from the top spot on the Disney Plus ranking was Bluey with 922 minutes viewed. Well, sure, we’re all for shaping young minds, but has Bluey ever rescued a senator after publicly defying the Galactic Empire? Yeah, we didn’t think so.

As predicted (and would be compulsory viewing for any Star Wars fan after finishing Andor), Rogue One also made a spot on the movie charts of Disney Plus for those wanting a gut-wrenching chapter with their heartbreaking shot of rebellion. When the final three episodes of the ꦇprequel series were released, the Dirty Dozen-like war movie ended up in joint ninᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚth place on the movie charts and had 179 minutes viewed. Way to go, Cassian.

Regarding competition from other big shows, Andor steamed ahead against Grey’s Anatomy and Criminal Minds, and even left The Last of Us in the dust. The latter’s struggle doesn’t come as a surprise, considering that the HBO series battled with ratings this season after killing off Joel (Pedro Pascal), which was a disappointing shock for those who still didn’t know what would happen. Its finale was also hit wiཧth 𒀰a 55% fall in viewers compared to season 1, proving jus𓆉t what kind o🐓f damage a golf club can do if placed in the wrong hands.

The question now is how the numbers will compare when Disney returns with their next Star Wars television chapter, given the booming success of Andor. We still have a while to wait, but the next big show set to hit streaming from a galaxy far, far away will be Ahsoka, which still doesn’t have a release date yet. Not only this, but the story sees Reacher partake in subway surfing, a dangerous activity where peopl🌄e cling onto moving subway cars. It looks like star Alan Ritchson has his work cut out for him this time.

Another interesting detail is that Gone Tomorrow is one of five Reacher books which is written in first person, meaning we might get some inner monologues from the usually quiet hero. Despite being confirmed before season𒁏 3 hit Prime Video, Reacher season ꦓ4 has yet to start filming or make any cast announcements.
