No, it looks like we✅’re not, as the main characters in The Reef learned this the hard way. While sailing to Indonesia, a group of friends capsize, leaving them stranded in the ocean. Matters only get worse when they attempt to swim to land, attracting the attention of a huge great white shark. The Reef is one of the few true horror movies on this list and will have you hiding behind your blanket. What makes this 2010 flick even scarier is that it's inspired by the true story of Ray Boundy, who survived a shar🗹k attack when his boat capsized. Sadly, his friends were not so fortunate.

Released in 2003, Open Water follows a couple who get left behind on a scuba diving trip. With no boat, no way home, and energy running out, the duo’s fight for survival is made harder when they realize they are treading shark-infested waters. The film is loosely based on Tom and Eileen Lonergan’s real-life nightmare on the Great Barrier Reef in 1998. Open water also used real sharks, specifically Caribbean reef sharks, to achieve a greater sense of realism.

3. Jaws 2

It’s no surprise that yet another Jaws movie has made it onto this list, but we’re not covering the big kahuna yet. But believe us when we tell you that it’s worth hitting pause on your summer vacation to go and see Dangerous Animals in theaters, as this is a shark horror movie like no other. Directed by The Devil’s Candy’s Sean Byrne, Dangerous Animals flips the shark horror genre on its head by swapping the typical gilled villain for a man. The movie follows nomad surfer Zephyr, who gets abducted by a shark-obsessed serial killer and held captive on his boat, where she must quickly work out her escape before it's too late.

What oth💜er movie did you expect to see in the top spot? Steven Spielberg’s trailblazing blockbuster hit screens in 1975 and changed audiences' perception of sharks forever. When a giant white shark fatally attacks sဣwimmers just off the coast of Amity Island, it's up to Sheriff Martin Brody, a marine biologist, and a local fisherman to hunt down the creature before it can claim too many victims. The movie gave us such iconic lines as: "You’re gonna need a bigger boat," and one of the biggest jump scares in shark movie history (see above). Jaws still remains the best shark movie, and has ingrained itself into pop culture for 50 years now.

Given some of his previous reviews, it kind of stands to reason that Kojima rated Last Breath. The videogame designer has heaped praise on titles such as Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, A Quiet Place: Day One, Dune: Part Two, and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning over the lꦫast year or so, so it✃'s safe to say he's a big fan of all things action and spectacle.

In a 🃏new interview with , the Terminator star recall🍬ed the limitations they'd had when bringing King's dystopian novel to life for the first time almost 40 years ago, and how there were things he wishes they could've done differently.

On June 4, Blumhouse Productions confirmed that a sequel to 2019's Ma was officially in the 🍬works on social media, while to share the news. Check out the appropriately meme-heavy tweet below...

Directed by Tate Taylor, Ma follows Spencer's Sue Ann, a lonely middle-aged woman who encourages a bunch of neighborhood teens over to use her house as a safe place to party. At first, the youngsters think they've got themselves a pretty sweet deal: ဣSue Ann's got a cool basement and she's game to buy them alcohol. But when Sue Ann, who goes by 'Ma', starts implementing suspicious rules and obsessing over whether her new "pals" will be coming over next, the set-up turns into a nightmare.

Thanks to Spencer's performance and its unhinged, murderous protagonist, Ma went on to become one of the most online joke-friendly horror movies🧸 in history, so it stands to reason that Gen Z couldn't hide their excitement about getting a new chapter.

Directed by Laurent Bouzereau, Jaws @ 50: The Definitive In꧋side Story offers an "unfiltered look at the chaos and c𒈔reativity" behind the making of Jaws, featuring never-before-seen footage from director Spielberg's and shark activist Wendy Benchley's personal archives, including home videos and "rare outtakes."

Per , Spielberg candidly reflects on everything "from battling a malfunctioning mechanical shark and relentless weather delays to his own post-production PTSD and fears the filꦑm would end his career."

From the trailer⛄, we can see that the film centers on one of the most tense times in the US, 2020. Tha🌳t year saw not only the COVID pandemic shake the nation, but also the murder of an unarmed Black man named George Floyd by police, which sparked outrage and a need for change. These are heavy topics, but writer and director Aster is well known for dealing with hard-hitting themes such as grief and loss in his A24 horror movies Hereditary and Midsommar.

However, it looks like the mo⛦vie will focus on two men in particular during this tense time, and how a divided nation plays backdrop to their conflict. The official synopsis from A24 reads: "In May of 2020, a standoff between a small-town sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) and mayor (Pedro Pascal) sparks a po♒wder keg as neighbour is pitted against neighbour in Eddington, New Mexico."

Sam Wrench, who directed Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, will be helming the project, which is being penned by Juror No. 2 writer Jonathan A. Abrams. The original film, released in 1992, saw Costner as a former secret service agent hired to protect Houston's world-renowned R&B singer, only for the two to slowly fall in love in the process. Could a megastar as big as Houston was during the release of the original film get a call, if so, we're pretty sure Wrench might have a number in his phone book. It's also worth highlighting just how celebrities are༒ more under the microscope than ever before thanks to fans being able to interact with them online, which could operate as an interesting plot point in whatever Abrams has planned, given that the remake focused on Houston's character being followed by a stalker.

Another unsettling moment involves the journalists listening to Moretti's new album for the first time. It's at once sexualised, goofy, and menacing, as the pop star lunges and gyra🧸tes in a performance that the (predominantly fe🌄male) audience doesn't seem to know how to interpret. Should they be entertained or uncomfortable? In Moretti's eyes, probably both. There's no sexual violence in Opus, but an undercurrent of gendered power is a stalwart of the horror genre.

The film features its fair share of bloody violence, too, and there are a few scenes that dabble in action territory, in which Ariel must fight off aggressors. Edebiri perfectly conveys a dogged sense of surv💙ival in Ariel, a gritty determination to survive and get out of this situation by any means necessary – a vital quality for any final girl.

The villain of Opus may not be a mythical monster, but Moretti is a lo෴oming specter haunting the movie all the same, and Ariel's fight for survival proves that Edebiri has what it takes to face off against something that goes bump in the night. As for the mafia parallels, there may not be any organized crime in Bring Them Down, but there's plenty of violence in the film against both man and beast that's presented in a frighteningly casual and matter-of-fact way. Combined with an oppressive, seemingly inevitable expectation of masculinity that weighs heavily on both Michael and Jack from the patriarchal figures in their lives, the comparison isn't actually th♒at left field.

It's not just the movie's themes but its form, too, as Abbott thinks the film's structure – which abruptly and unexpectedly sw🦩itches its narrative POV from Michael to Jack halfway through the runtime – is also reminiscent of a mob flick. "You're following this one character and you learn just enough about what's going on to have a fair amount of questions, and then it switches," he explains. "And then some of those [questions] get answered, until this sort of final crescendo. I really liked it. I thought it was exciting."

There's no clear hero or villain in the movie and no🅘 apparent winner or loser as the altercation between Michael and Jack plays out, and the futility of the situation plays 𒊎into the tragedy of the film. "It's not an obvious thing why the characters are pitted against each other. It just sort of happens," Abbott explains. "I love in movies where a small event changes the course of a character's life, and the reason why Michael is pitted against Barry's character is sort of silly.

"It's really just a series of misunderstandings and mistakes [then] all of a sudden this mayhem starts happening. If they'd just gotten together and chatted for an hour about everything, probably a lot of things could get resolved, but it doesn't. But that's the drama of it. They're༺ enemies, but neither of the characters even knows why, and that's what's interesting."

Lionsgate first announced an American Psycho remake some 13 years ago, with music video director Noble Jones set to pen the script. American Psyꩲcho 2, starring Mila Kunis, was released in 2005 - though the unofficial sequel, directed by Dawson's Creek and Laguna Beach helmer Morgan J. Freeman, was later denounced by both Kunis and Ellis.

It's Fiennes who steers this masterfully, slowly unraveling as the temperature on the pressure cooker is turned up dial by dial. There are mome🦩nts when things bubble over, including a particಌularly brilliant scene with Isabella Rossellini's Sister Agnes.

"Although we sisters are sup💖posed to be invisible, God has nevertheless giv✃en us eyes and ears," she tells the room of warring cardinals, before unveiling some information that flips the hierarchy of power once again. Stand-out performances and drip-fed narrative details will have you guessing all the way through who – if anyone – may prove successful.

Critics have praised the film for its tension,🌞 and it's part of what's landed it a 92% score on . And it feels💫 in a year where thrillers have either leaned more comedic (Trap, Wolfs) or psychological (Blink Twice), Conclave is well up there as a contender for the top spot.

Unexpected buzz

Perhaps the most unusual reaction to the movie so far though has been the buzz it's been generating online. Memes have been popping upꦫ on social media along with comparisons to everything from Mean Girls to RuPaul's Drag Race. Check out some of the best below:

While these are a lot of fun, there's a really interesting current beneath these comparisons. The drama at the heart of th𒊎e film is its most juicy element and shows how deeply the lure of power can be corrupted. Take Father Lawrence, for example. He starts the film eschewing the spotlight and hoping for a quick and easy election – until he starts getting votes.

Stanley Tucci's Bellini sees right through him, eviscerating him with the accusation that he is hungry for the papacy, and has always been. Even though Bellini later apologizes, it turns out he was right on the money with his first hunch: when he asks his old friend Lawrence what his papal name would be, Fiennes' holy man responds without a second of hesitation. But, he's not thought about it, right?

It's the same human drama that makes reality TV so addictive. When ღinteraction is boiled down to its most essential in moments of high stress, people show who they really are. So yes, Conclave is very similar to🦩 dramas like The Real Housewives, in the sense that it's all about personal emotion at its core – and that's what makes it so entertaining.

But, at the end of the day, whether you come to Conclave through Mean Girls memes or thrꦆough critical buzz, the film won't be quite what you expect. As – like all of the best thrillers – Berger's latest will keep you guessing w🧜ith a tone that can't quite be nailed down.

My best advice? Shed your expectations, sit back, and enjoy the ride. Who knew religious suꦉccession could be this much fun?

Per , the film is set in 1858 and follows a young, eccentric governess nam🐈ed Winifred No🉐tty (Qualley) "who arrives at the remote gothic manor known as Ensor House. Winifred’s responsibilities include teaching the children table manners and educating them about their family’s history, all whilst hiding her psychopathic tendencies. As Winifred assimilates into life at Ensor House, staff members begin to inexplicably disappear, and the owners of the estate begin to wonder if there is something amiss about their new governess."

The pic is written by Virginia Feito, who adapted the screenplay from her upcoming no𝓀vel of the same name. Dan Kagan (Longlegs) is set to produce. Cameras are set to roll in March 2025.

Qualley and Wigon previously worked together on Sanctuary, Wigon's 2022 indie erotic psychological thriller that st♋arred Qualley and Christopher Abbott as lovers.

At the BFI London Film Festival red carpet premiere of his film A Real Pain, which co-stars Kieran Culkin, GamesRadar+ caught up with Eisenberg and asked about the third installment in the Now You See Meꦿ franchise.

♛Nicole Kidman’s new erotic thriller Babygirl had a lot of buzz when it arrived at Venice Film Festival earlier thi𒊎s year, and now the first trailer has arrived. The new teaser begins with a chance meeting between Kidman’s Romy and Harris Dickinson’s Samuel on the streets of New York City.

After he stops a dog from attackingౠ her, she finds out he’s one of th🗹e new interns joining her company. “Being a CEO means being a collaborator and a nurturer,” Romy begins as we see her tightly controlled corporate life, “Everyone is waiting for me to buckle under the pressure.” Romy and Samuel then begin an ill-advised affair all about power-imbalance and control, which soon seems to spiral.

As the trailer goes on you begin to question who is really in charge, as Samuel starts to infiltrate her family life. “I could make one call and you could lose everything,” he tells her as Romy seems to be struggling with what’s happening. Antonio Banderas also stars as Romy’s husband and Talk to Me breakout Sophie Wওilde plays her assistant.

Netflix has released the main trailer for Woman of the Hour, Pitch Perfect star Anna Kendrickౠ's directorial debut.

As well as making her debut in the director's chair, Kendrick also stars in the crime thriller – she plays aspiring actor Cheryl, a contestant on The Dating Game who wins a date with a man named Rodney Alcala – who also happens to be a serial killer. Set in 1978, Woman of the Hour is based on a sh🀅ocking true story. Arrested𒉰 Development's Tony Hale plays the show's host, while It Follows' Daniel Zovatto is Alcala.

The new trailer, which you can watch above, immediately sets the tone for the f𓄧ilm, with Cheryl walking hurriedly through an empty parking lot at night, breathing heavily, as a man lurks behind her. We then cut to an audition, which doesn't go very well for Cheryl. Down on her luck and struggling to meet rent, she gets a job on The Dating Game as the show's eligible bachelorette, and comedic clips from the show as Cheryl grills the three male contestants are interspersed with haunting snippets of Alcala with his victims. Don't be fooled by the campy '70s TV soundstage, this is a chilling true story, after all...

In a new Instagram post, Shyamalan celebrated the s☂uccess of Trap – 🎃and shared a tiny tease about what he's getting started on now.

Trap stars Josh Hartnett as Cooper, a regular suburban dad who just so happens to be notorious serial killer the Butcher. He takes his daughter (Ariel Donoghue) to a concert for Lady Raven (Saleka Night Shyamalan), unaware that the whole thing isꦫ – you guessed it – a trap to catch the Butcher. 

"I made the decision to do it live," Shyamalan previously told us of the movie♏'s concert sequences. "Josh is performing and says his dialogue and there's a real concert going on. The lighting, the performance💎, the crowd, they're all genuinely reacting to what's happening."

There are no further details just yet on Shyamalan's next movie, but with recent years bringing us Knock at the Cabin, Old, Glass, and Split, we're sure we&apoꦿs;ll be in for a treat whenever it arrives.

"You fix things, right?" Yep, that is exactly what Brad Pitt and George Clooney’s unnamed characters do for a living in Jon Watts’ cucumber-cool crime caper. Until, that is, both are called independently to take care of an increasingly complex job that begins in a New York hotel penthouse suite. "He’s not a prostitute," she keeps saying, though no one believes her. 

Before long, in walks Pitt’s character, ♌also wearing blue disposable gloves and an air of smarm. He’s been hired by the hotel owner to brush this potential scandal under the carpet. And so, Pitt and Clooney are suddenly forced to work together. "I’m going to supervise," says Pitt, as he watches his rival start to move the body. Except that he too is sucked in when he discovers kilos ofꦍ drugs in the room. Oh, and the 'Kid', as he’s credited, is not dead. Played by Austin Abrams (Euphoria), this chattering student is the innocent patsy in a deadly situation. 

Who is setting whom up? That’s the big question, albeit one that doesn’t prove interesting enough to be the film’s driving force. Watts seems far more intrigued by reuniting Clooney and Pitt, very much riffing on their 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Ocean’s Eleven c🌳harisma, as they bicker their way through the film like a married couple. Some moments work very well - notably one sequence on a subway train that suggests there is a little love between these two warhorses. Meanwhile, a safari-themed, cockroach-riddled motel room where they briefly hole up is guaranteed🀅 to raise smiles. 

There’s a sense Wolfs wants to be a latter-day Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, yet it never quite earns the poignancy of that Newman/Redford classic. But Watts - best known for the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Spider-Man: Homecoming trilogy - is a dab hand at action scenes, like the crazed chase through New York that ensues when the near-naked Kid wakes up and tries to make a run for it. Despite an amusing cameo from Zlatko Burić (澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Triangle of Sadness) as a major-league gangster celebrating his daughter’s nuptials, the finale descends into a generic shoot-out, with bullets sprayed hither and yon. But for those looking for an easy-on-the-eye, b🌄rain-in-neutral-thriller, Wolfs still hits the spot.

Billed as everything from a psychological thriller to a dark comedy, the film follows cocktail waitress and aspiring nail artist Frida (Naomi Ackie), who's been ওitching to cross paths with King again, having shared a brief flirtation with him while working his annual gala the year before. In an attempt to get his attention, she and her best friend Jess (Alia Shawkat, on top, giggle-inducing form) swap their uniforms for silky dresses and infiltrate the party this time round – which leads to them to spend the evening with King and his fancy friends, before he whisks them all away to his private island.

At first, the vacation feels like a dream: private suites, pool days, and delicious multi-course dinners, followed by drug-fueled, dance-filled nights. Christian Slater'🐷s Vic gets irritable whenever he doesn't have an umbrellaed drink in-hand, Cody (Simon Rex) insists on call🌞ing Sarah (Adria Arjona) 'babe' despite her obvious disdain for the term, and everyone keeps stealing Jess's lighter, but who cares? 

The characters' joy is so infectious, you get swept up in it as a viewer. So much so, that the trip's more unsettling aspects, like the non-English speaking housekeeper who seems to recognize Frida, and the island's venomous snake problem, barely even register. When Jess suddenly disappears, Frida realizes she keeps losing huge chunks of time, and the film turns into a bloodsoaked nightmare, then, it completely knocks you for six. You mean to tell me that's what's been going on?!

Menacing Mike

It seems a little glib to say, but Blink Twice sees Kravitz weaponize her real-life fiancé Tatum's natural charm to devastating effect. The movie opens with Frida watching a video of King apologizing for his behavior, as he confirms he's stepped down as CEO from his company KingꦛTech – though what he did exactly is never divulged. Even so, that's all we need to know to assume he's probably Not a Good Dude, but much like Frida, we kind of forget about all that once he starts showering her with champagne, asking how she got the scar on her temple with caring curiosity, and making her laugh as they play kiss-chase on the lawn. It turns out, though, he's a wolf in sheep's clothing.

"I wanted Slater King to be somebody that the audience felt comfortable and safe with, whilst also ensuring it would make sense that Frida would want to drop everything and leave with him," K🅷ravitz recently told . "If you're going to leave w𒐪ith a stranger, you have to make that connection feel real, so the audience never questions why."

"[We] talked about lots of different versions of Slater," Tatum said at the LA premiere (via ). "The one thing that we both agreed upon is that we didn't 🎃want to do the very stereotypical movie moment in a thriller where you reveal the bad guy."

The last part seems🌞 crucial in achieving Kravitz's vision here. King isn't a supervillain per se, but he's a man with immense wealth and power, and, well, what hap🐼pens when all that goes to someone's head and twists their morality into something sinister.

Kravitz, �🍌�who co-wrote the script with E.T. Feigenbaum, does similarly clever work with some of the supporting characters, too, like Geena Davis's bumbling assistant Stacey and Levon Hawke's crypto whizzkid Lucas, who seem to represent those who witness, or even facilitate, gross abuses of power, through generational and gender-specific lenses.

Reality bites

So why did this film – one that admittedly made me chuckle and want to hop on Booking.com at the earliest possible convenience – leave me so shell-shocked? I'm a horror-loving gorehound who barely flinches at most things these days. But it's because Kravitz injects so many small, toe-curlingly relatable moments in amongst the magical realism. We're not dealing with demons, killer clowns, or🍸 sharks here, we're faced with evils that are terrifyingly human. Even when I've seen a genre movie in the cinema late at night, I walk the 30 minutes from the train station home; I'm pretty certain there are no ghosts and ghoulies lurking around Maidstone. After Blink Twice? I got a cab.

"I felt like there was a lot more that needed to be discussed, but there wasn't really a place to say these things, and it didn't feel safe to say them out loud," Kravitz told the , as she remembered starting to write the𒀰 script back in 2017, as the #MeToo movement looked to be simmering down. "So I started writing because I wanted to express these feelings and thoughts and because I wanted to try and highlight the absurdity of what society asks or expects of women."

Clearly inspired by what used to go o𓆉n on Jeffrey Epstein's Epstein Island, and other horrific true events, Kravitz has conjured up something that achieves the perfect balance between entertaining thrills and uncompromising, rageful message, which is no mean feat nowadays. Forgetting may be a "gift", as King suggests towards the end of Blink Twice, but I wonও't be shaking this one off any time soon.

Naomi Ackie plays down-on-her-luck waitress Frida, who accepts an invitation from tech billionaire Slater King (Channing Tatum) to jump on a private jet for a getaway at his stylishly appointed private island. This luxurious setting is populated by partygoers (and poisonous snakes), but from the first close-up on a reptilian face it becomes clear something is amiss. As fellow guest (and reality-TV star) Sarah (Hit Man’s Adri𓂃a Arjona) puts it after a few days: “I’m having a gre💞at time, but I also have this feeling that I’m like… not.”

Kravitz (who co-wrote with E.T. Feigenbaum) takes her time revealing precisely what is actually happening 🐼on the island, building up to a masterful twist that recontextualizes prior scenes and lends new meaning to small pieces of dialogue. 

The ch𒊎emistry between leads Ackie and Tatum is simply scintillating; what’s more, they receive pitch-perfect support from an idiosyncratic ensemble that includes Alia Shawkat, Simon Rex, and Christian Slater. The aforementioned play misfits who keep their motives close to their chests while still being people you would want to party with – particularly during an exquisitely timed, post-dinner ne🧔edle-drop of 'Young Hearts Run Free'. 

Above all, though, Blink Twice is an electrifying showcase for Kravitz, who is emerging as one of the most talented and socially aware Black women operating on a global stage.
