<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> //344567.top 2025-06-13T16:49:43Z en <![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> In new drama The Way We Talk, sign language is a tool for both communication and community. Hong Kong director Adam Wong's💯 movie, which had its world premiere at last year's London Film Festival, centers around three d/Deaf friends: Sophie (Chung Suet Ying), Alan (Marco Ng), and Wolf (Neo Yau). Alan and Wolf are childhood friends who met at their speech and language school, where Wolf, who was born into a Deaf family, was often in trouble for refusing to use spok♍en language.

Flashbacks to 2005 see him clashing with his teacher, with sign language penalized in the classroom, and on-screen text at the start of the film informs the audience that policy around using sign language in schools in Hong Kong 🦹only changed in 2010.

Cut to almost 20 years later, and Alan has a cochlear implant that helps his hearing. He and Sophie meet as they're both ambassadors for the implant, encouraging other d/Deaf people to undergo the surgery. This puts them both at od𝔍ds with Wolf, who strongly believes that his lack of hearing is something to be proud of and not something he wants to change about himself.

Something different

Other recent movies about d/Deaf people or people experiencing hearing loss, like 2021's Oscar-winning CODA or 🌳2019's Sound of Metal, starring Riz Ahmed, often only revolve around one main protagonist and, in the case of CODA, that protagonist isn't actually d/Deaf (the movie's title is an acronym for 'Child of Deaf Adults').

In Sound of Metal, Ahmed's character, Ruben, only starts to lose his hearing in adulthood, so it feels rare to see multiple d/Deaf protagonists on screen who have been experiencing Deafness or loss of hearing since childhood (if not all their lives, in Wol𒁏f's case).

Overcome or embrace?

Neo Yau as Wolf in The Way We Talk

"Amid th🐲e dilemma of 'overcoming deafness' and 'embracing deafness,' how can deaf individuals truly live?" Wong said in a statement about the film. "How can one's individuality resist being drowned out by prevailing societal trends?"

In one of the movie's early scenes, Sophie makes a speech for the cochlear implant organization that offends Wolf with its references to normality and eliminating d/De⛎afness. His outburst upsets Sophie, and she decides she wants to learn sign language – and for Wolf to teach her. New ways of communicating open up new ways of living for her, too: rather than trying to assimilate in a culture that tokenizes and others her, as her mother has always tried to make her do, she's able to find community and solidarity with other d/Deaf people.

The♏ movie's dialogue is spoken in Cantonese, but most of its speech is communicated using Hong Kong sign language. The film's sound often distorts to reflect what its protagonists are hearing in the world around them, particularly when Sophie's coch🃏lear implant begins to malfunction.

Although at 🉐times the script feels a little didactic in 🎀its depiction of d/Deafness, the movie for the most part feels like an honest portrayal of living with a disability: isolating and frustrating, but also joyful and companionable.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Nosferatu director Robert Egg𒆙ers has reportedly set his sights on another iconic tale for adaptation – A Christmas Carol.

According to , Eggers is writing and directing an adaptation of t🃏he famous Charles Dickens story with Warner Bros. Nothing is confirmed yet, but Eggers is said to be writing Ebenezer Scrooge specifically for Willem Dafoe.

This would be far from the first collaboration between🎶 the duo: Dafoe also starred in The Lighthouse, The Northman, and Nosferatu.

A Christmas Carol has been adapted countless times, through plays, graphic novels, TV shows, and even a Muppets movie. Considering Eggers' classic gothic style, we can expect a dark take on the tale – though that wouldn't be especially out of the ordinary, considering it's a pretಞty bleak ghost story already (although with a happy ending of course).

澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史𓃲查询:Next▨ up for Eggers, though, is his werewolf movie, appropriately titledꦑ Werwulf. It will be set in 13t𝄹h-century England.

Nosferatu was a huge success for Eggers, grossing over $181 million at the box office. It was also critically acclaimed, with our own four-star 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Nosferatu review reading: "Nosferatu delivers a relatively straight re-telling of this classic gothic tale. It looks and sounds stunning and is packed with vampiric horr🧔or. It doesn't push many bound✃aries but if you wanted the classic Dracula narrative feeling exactly like it’s directed by Robert Eggers, you're going to love it."

There's no release date for Werwulf or A Christmas Carol just yet. In the meantime, check out our guide to the year's most exciting 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:upcoming movies for everything else the year has in store.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> The first full-length trailer for Eddington, di𝔉rected by Ari Aster, has arrived - it looks a truly wild time.

In the brief clip, which can be viewed below, Sherriff Joe Cross (Joaquin Phoenix) slowly but surely starts to unravel as🏅 COVID-19 hits the small town of Eddington and tensions begin to rise amongst residents. Joe ends up starting a war with Mayor Ted Garcia (Pedro Pascal), who is running for reelection. There's plenty of gunfire, protests, and violence - though nothing beats the scene where Pascal slaps Phoenix across the face.

We also get our first glimpse at Emma Stone as Joe's wife Louise, Deirdre O'Connell as Louise's mother, and ♎Austin Butler as Vernon Jefferson Peak, who appears to be a religious zealot. The cast also includes Luke Grimes, Micheal Ward, and Clif🐈ton Collins Jr.

The contemporary Western had 💎its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where it competed for ꦑthe Palme D'or and was apparently met with a mixed reaction from viewers and critics alike.

"Co💫vid felt like an inflection point, where the link to the old society we lived in was finally cut," Aster told , explaining his vision for the film. "That old idea of democracy being something that ෴could be any sort of countervailing force to power and tech and finance, it went away completely at that moment, and it’s where I think we became fully isolated.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Hideo Kojima is a movie buff, to put it mildly. While the legendary video game developer has recently gained traction on social media via his snap reactions to the latest and greatest releases (or, in the case of Madame Web, 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:six words that say all you need to know), he frequently laces his wor🅷ks♑ with allusions to everything from James Bond to Escape From New York.

But how does he keep track of his movie-watching habits? As revealed in a wide-ranging profile on , he has a Notes app filled with his verdicts and mini-reviews. A thumbs up (or two) indicates a 'like or love'. An eyes emoji is an ominous 'no comment', while a heart emoji marks a film Kojima has w💞atched with his two sons.

As for his four favorites? In true Letterboxd style, Kojima never settles on a set in stone Mount Rushmore, but has a current list ready for those who want to tap into a little more of what makes him tick: "2001: A Space Odyssey. Taxi Driver. Mad Max 2. Akira Kurosawa’s High ܫand Low."

Anyone who has sat through Meta⛎l Gear Solid 4's hours of cutscenes will 𓃲know that Hideo Kojima isn't just keen to watch movies; he's long harbored ambitions to direct his own.

While Kojima has mostly stuck to the world of 🤡consoles and PC gaming with his grand ideas, he has admitted that – as the sands of time slip away – he is still keen to make good on sitting in the dir🐠ector's chair for a feature.

"How old will I be after I finish [post-Death Stranding ܫ2 project] Physint? Late sixties? I haven’t really said anything about the future projects – I do have ideas – but I’m thinking I should direct a film after Physint because I’ll be too o🔯ld in the future."

For those who haven't kept tabs on Kojima's upcoming schedule, De🍬ath Stranding 2 (featuringﷺ the return of Norman Reedus' Sam Porter Bridges) is set to hit PS5 in June.

From there, Kojima is moving to work on Physint, a spiritual successor to the Metal Gear Solid series that 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:appears to be "five or six years away." After that, who knows? But we mig𝓀ht finally get the Kojima movie – and that gets a thumbs up emoji fr🌠om us.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Film critic Peter Travers says ꧑his pal Martin Scorsese does𒅌n't watch movies in the theater anymore because of poor audience behavior.

"I asked the maestro why he doesn’t see movies in theaters anymore and he went all raging bull about audiences who babble on phones during the movie, leave to order snacks and vats of soda, and keep up a noise level loud enough to drown out the actors," Travers wrote on his new blog, . He's definitely not wroꦗng – it seems that theater etiquette is absolutely out the window (especially with people taking photos of the screen like they're at a concert).

"'Come on, Marty',” I said, "'We couldn't keep our mouths shut when we were kids.' His eyes darkened. 'Yeah, maybe.' he conceded, 'but when we talked it was always about the movie and the fun we had chewing over the details.🔯'"

It's been two years since Killers of the Flower Moon, and Scorsese has several new projects in the works – though none have officially entered production. Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell go through a one-in-a-lifetime journey in A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, which just released a first-look trailer with some serious Suzume vibes. No, Farrel🔥l doesn't turn int𒆙o a talking chair, but there are plenty of magical doors and a romance that feels larger than life.

The trailer, which you can see above, follows Sarah (Robbie) and D๊avid (Farrell), two single strangers who meet at a mutual friend’s wedding, and feel a connection. "It's funny how the most beautiful places make you feel the most alone," he tells her. "Maybe it just depends on the person you're with," she replies. Thanks to David's magical GPS, they meet again and decide to go on a Big Bold Beautiful Journey.

Per the official synopsis, the film sees them living "a funny, fantastical, sweeping adventure together where they get to re-live important🌠 moments from their respective pasts, i🦩lluminating how they got to where they are in the present… and possibly getting a chance to alter their futures."

Both Robbie and Farrell had the biggest success of their careers in recent years. Robbie made history as star and producer of the massive 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:box office hit Bar💛bie, while Farrell was nominated for an Oscar for his excellent performance in The Banshees of Inisherin and is now starring in DC's successful series The Penguin⛎.

They are 𒐪joined in this new movie by Kevin Kline, Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Billy Magnussen.

The film was helmed by The Acolyte director Kogonada, who took inspiration not exactly from Makoto Shinkai's Suzume (despite the magical doors) bu𓆏t from Hayao Miyazaki's movi💫es at Studio Ghibli. "That sort of magical lightness really connects you to our everyday experiences and all the challenges of being human, and is able to do both things at once," he told .

In fact, he brought on Japanese𒊎 composer Joe Hisaishi, known for his work on Miyazaki’s films, to create the score f🌸or the film. "It felt important to lean into the fantastic, but to also ground it in these landscapes," added Kogonada.

Both Robbie and Farrell had the biggest success of their careers in reꦗcent years. Robbie made history with Barbie, and Farrell was nominated for an Oscar for The Banshees of Inisherin and is starring in HBO's successful crime series The Penguin.

A Big Bold Beautiful Journey arrives in cinemas on September 19. In the meantime, check our guide for all 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:upcoming movies in 2025 and beyond.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> When it comes to cinema, love and death are the medium's bread and butter. New drama When the Light Breaks provides its own take on those two universal themes, offering one of the freshest and most honest perspectives I've seen✃ on the big screen in a while.

The latest film from Icelandic writer-director Rúnar Rúnarsson, When the Light Breaks follows art school student Una (Elín Hall) over the course of 24 hours after she finds out that her boyfriend Diddi (Baldur Einarsson) has been killed in a freak traffic accident. Her grief is fur🧸ther complicated by the fact that their affair was a secret, and Diddi was on his way to break up with his long-term girlfriend Klara (Katla Njálsdóttir) when he died. Una spends the day that follows with a small group of Diddi's childhood friends – 💜and Klara, who rushes to Reykjavík when she hears the news.

Una struggles with the resentment she feels towards Kla📖ra and the symp💃athy she receives, as well as the guilt of her and Diddi's infidelity and the weight of her secret – one that was previously shared, but now rests firmly on her shoulders alone.

"I just had to get it out of my system"

When the Light Breaks

When the Light Breaks is dedicated to two of Rúnarsson's friends who passed away and, although the film is a work of fiction, it channels his own experiences of grief. "It's a relief. I just had to get it out of my system, one way or another," Rúnarsson said in an interview with . "But when something, like a box, has been standing 🌼on a shelf for a long time and then you move it, it leaves an empty space. I managed to get rid of the box, and I am glad it’s gone, but nothing else will be able to replace it."

Big Screen Spotlight

Ideas of grief and loss are examined further with a piece of music that recurs throughout the film: it's by the late c♔omposer Jóhann Jóhannsson, who scored movies like Sicario and Arrival and died in 2018. The piece is one of Jóhannsson's first works, but it's never been used in a movie before.

Emotional debris

When the Light Breaks

The thing that struck me the most about When the Light Breaks, though (other than its gorgeous cinematography, shot by Sophia Olsson, who captures both the Icelandic summer sunrises and the highway tunnel explosion with equal painstaking care), was its honesty. It doesn't seek ou🌄t answers to the moral and emotional complexities at its core, nor does it attempt to moralize one way or the other. A more simplistic script would force us to empathize with Klara or demonize Una, but instead it invites us to sit with both women and t🍃heir shared and separate grief.

A particularly moving scene se♕es the two womeꩵn brush their teeth side by side in Diddi's bathroom: Una reaches for his toothbrush but, realizing she needs to feign unfamiliarity with the space, squeezes toothpaste onto her finger instead. When Klara joins her, she does the same thing in an attempt at solidarity, while the knowledge that Una has been in this exact spot many times before hangs heavy and unspoken over the pair.

When the Light Breaks is full of complicated moments like this – small, intimate acts between people trying to make sense of the worst day of their lives that carry as much irony and trag♈edy as they do hope and joy. Love and death are well-trodden topics for a reason: there isn't one right way to behave when your life blows up in real-time, but When the Light Breaks attempts to pick through the emotional debris.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Agatha All Along star Joe Locke has revealed why 澳🐼洲幸运5开🦂奖号码历史查询:Heartstopper will be ending with a movie, rather than another season.

The popular Netflixꦑ show, which is an adaptation of Alice Oseman's webcomic and graphic novel, has run for three seasons.

"We are all in such different places," Locke told . "From the moment we filmed 🍷the first season, and in our careers, and everyone’s so busy, which is great, it means everyone's being successful and doing things. I think the time it would've taken to film a series, we just wouldn't have been able to get everyone in the same place for five years. Then by t✃hat time, there would be no need for it.

"So, we realized that the only way to get it made this year is if we do a film because it’s less time commitment, and well, we can still put in a lot of the same love and care into the characters, into finishing off the s꧅tory," he continued. "And it's also, it's a really nice chapt꧋er closer. It makes it feel more cinematic, more grand, and gives it the ending it deserves, which I am really excited to start shooting. And the script is great."

Locke also c🌟onfir𓄧med that cameras will begin rolling imminently: "Yeah, we start shooting very soon."

Along with Locke, the show stars Warfare's Kit Connor. The duo play Char𒅌lie Spring a𓃲nd Nick Nelson, and the show chronicles their high school love story. The movie will adapt volume six of Oseman's graphic novels.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Fancasting can be a dangerous game at the best of times. Some go for how cꦰlosely an actor resembles a character, while others drop in the hottest names of the moment.

Thankfully, this Elden Ring movie 🀅pick is certainly one we can get behind. Fans on are sugge𝕴sting that Game of Thrones actor Charles Dance swaps Westeros for The Lands Between to play Gideon, The All-Knowing, the Tarnished leader of the Roundtable Hold.

As his name might suggest, Gideon's task throughout the course of Elden Ring – and in the years prior to the player's Tarnished meeting him – is to accumulate knowledge of the Shardbearers who hold the fragments needed toꦿ re-assemble the Elden Ring. Gideon does so in the hopes of becoming an Elden Lord – and will later confront our hero in Leyndell.

"I could absolutely see it. Game of Thrones has a lot of actors that gave their all …There's a lot of former GoT folks that I'd love to see in Elden Ring," one wrote in response to the fancasting of Dance, who is best known for playing Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones, as well as his appearances in💞 Alien 3, The Crown and – as real ones know – Ali G Indahouse.

Others declared him a "10/10 choice", but also leaned toward𝓀s Gideon voice actor Joe McGann reprising his role on the big screen💙.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> We're about to head to The Lands Between on the big screen with news of the Alex Garland-directed Elden Ring mo🐎vie.

But, beyond that, the FromSoftware-esque fog stretches ahead of us, obscuring what exactly an adaptation of the 2023 modern masterpiece is going to be about – or even who🅠 the story will focus on.

Now, fan suggestions can be extremely hit or miss. But we believe they've hit gold here with their top choice for who the Elden Ring mo✤vie protagonist should be in : Vyke.

If you're still plundering your way through the likes of Stormveil Castle and the Weeping Peninsula, you might not have butted heads – and clashed swords – with Vyke just yet. It's safe to say, however, that he has one of the more compelling narratives (of course, being FromSoftware's wonౠt, this is tucked a🐠way in item descriptions and snatches of lore dumps throughout your journey).

Before The Tarnished arrived, Vyke was – in effect – the closest to achieving what the player would go on to do. He had wo🌞rked to re-assemble the Elden Ring with the aim of becoming the Elden Lord. However, he was later turned mad by the Frenzied Flame after chasing after a lost love, and players can later fight him in the Mountaintop of the Giants.

In true Eꦏlden Ring fashion, we never hear Vyke's full story. That makes it ripe for further exploration in a big-screen adaptation, with one fan writing, "I think he is the perfect character to tell a story about. He's not some godly character that takes 4-5 movies to🧔 explain his story, but he's also not some random nobody… Also his story of turning down a chance at ultimate power for the sake of love for a woman who's essentially viewed as a tool, only for it to end in a fate worse than death is just SO PEAK as a story."

Right now, all we know about the Elden Ring movie is that Bandai Namco and A24 are𒁏 collaborating on the project, with Ex Machina and Civil War's Alex Gar🎃land at the helm.

Garland isn't just a formidable auteur, mind. He's long since 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:proven his Elden Ring chops, taking down everyone from Mohg to the Eldeꦕn Beast – several times over.

"Love Shadow Of The Erdtree," Garland said on a recent Reddit Ask Me Anything. "I'm on ng𒁏+6 currently. Don't even want to think about the hours I've clocked up. Can't seem to stop playing. Still discovering stuff."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Director Joachim Trier’s upcoming drama Sentimental Value has landed rave revie♔ws after premiering at Cওannes Film Festival.

At the time of writin꧑g, Sentimental Value currently sits at a perfect 100% score on based on 10 reviews. Many critics have been celebrating the movie’s exploration of family dynamics, with Chase Hutchinson from writing, “Sentimental Value is a subtle yet sweeping tapestry of art, family, and connection that takes the breath away.”

Of course, many reviews are givi🌠ng director Trier his flowers. “Trier has once again crafted a film that is graceful and limber, thoughtful and surprising,” said Richard Lawson from , and ’s Gregory Ellwood echoed, “A moment when Trier rips away the trauma in a brilliant and hopeful metaphor for this family's future.🎀 Truly sublime, Mr. Trier. This comes just after Sentimental Value received an incredible 19-minute standi⛦ng ovation, posted online by , at the Cannes Film Festival after premiering on March 21. <![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Cillian M🃏urphy and Daniel Craig are in talks to star in Damien Chazelle's next movie, according to .

Little is known about the currently untitled film yet, other than the fact that Chazelle, who is perhaps best known fꦚor helming Oscar-winning musical La La Land, will write and direct. Olivia Hamilton is set to produce alongside Chazelle, under their Wild Chickens Productions banner, while Paramount Pictures will distribute the flick.

Though it is yet to be confirmed, insiders allegedly told the aforementioned publication that the movie will be set insi🐟de a prison. Principalꩵ photography is expected to start sometime this year.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Guillermo del To꧙ro says his upcoming Frankenstein movie is not a horror film per se, despite being based on the classic gothic horror novel.

"Somebody asked me the other day, does it have really scary scenes?" del Toro said during a conversation at the Cannes Film Festival with composer Alexandre Desplat (via ). "For the first time, I considered that. It’s an emotional story for me. It’s as personal as𝔍 anything. I’m asking a question about being a father, being a son… I’m not doing a horror movie – ever. I’m not trying to do that."

The film, which serves as an adaptation of Mary Shelley's 1818 novel, follows Dr. Pretorious (Christoph Waltz), who must track down Frankenstein’s Monster (Jacob Elordi) – who is believed to have died in a fire 40 years 🦋before – in order to carry out and continue the controversial experiments of Dr. Vꩵictor Frankenstein (Oscar Isaac).

The star-studded cast also includes Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, Christian Convery, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Charles Dance, and Ralph Ineson. 💖A trailer was shown behind closed doors at a Netflix 𓃲event earlier this year, but it has not yet been released to the public.

Del Toro's adaptation of Frankenstein was first announced back in 2007, but was stalled at Universal by 2014. Netflix revived the project in 2023, initially with Andrew Garfield set to star as Frankenstein's Monster. Elordi took over after the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:SAG-AFTRA strikes threw a wrench in everyone's schedules.

Frankenstein is set to hit Netflix in November. For more, check out our list of the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best Netflix movies and the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best Netflix shows to stream right now.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Hideo Kojima has shared his verdict on Better Man, the unconventional Robbie Williams biopic – and the Metal Gear cre💫ator ha😼d an emotional response to the movie.

"I watched BETTER MAN on the plane," Kojima . "I have no idea why Robbie Williams is portrayed as a chimpanzee the whole time, but I was in tears by the end. At my ju♉nior high graduation event way back, just like in the film, I sang 'MY WAY' solo on stage in the auditorium – me for the first verse, Tatsuo for the second. Then the whole class joined in for the chorus. It brought back memories of my late father too. So many things came flooding back, and I couldn’t stop crying until the end credits were over."

ℱReleased in December 2024, Better Man was directed by The Greatest Showman helmer Michael Gracey and featured Williams voicing himself, as the only CGI primate amongst a cast of humans. Williams was a member of the UK boy band Take That in the '90s, and the film charts his rise to fame and struggles in the limelight.

The movie culminates in an emotional performance of🙈 Frank Sinatra's 'My Way' on stage at London's Royal Albert Hall, which is what Kojima refers to 🌄in his Tweet.

Although Better Man was received favorably by critics and holds a score of 89% on Rotten Toma♓toes, it was a box office flop and m🐎ade $22.5 million on a budget of $110 million.

Better Man is currently available to stream on Prime Video. For more, fill out your watchlist with our guide to this year's biggest 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:movie release dates.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> You might not have heard of it before, but How to Make Millions B🎉efore Grandma Dies was a box office hit and o💝ne of the best movies of 2024. Now, the Thai film is getting an English-language remake that will allow the story to reach a wider audience.

After an intense bidding war, reported that Miramax has struck a deal with the film’s director Pat Boonn🐠itipat and Thailand's big studio GDH 559 to adapt the story. However, it's still too early to know further details about the creative team and cast that will lead the remake.

The film, which was first released in April last year, ended up grossing around $73🌞.8 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing Thai film of all time globally. The record-breaking movie arrived in US cinemas on September 13, and was shortlisted for Best International Feature a🌼t the Oscars 2025. It received glowing reviews from critics, landing an almost-perfect 98% score at .

How to Make Milli🥀ons Before Grandma Dies follows M (played by Putthipong Assaratanakul), a university dropout who volunteers to take care of his grandmother (played by Usha Seamkhum) when she is diagnosed with cancer. His plan is to secure his inheritance by winning her favor, but that won't be as easy as he thought.

We can easi𒐪ly see this story translating to any background, as long as the bond between grandma and grandson is as phenomenalꩲ as it is in the original movie. Blending drama and comedy, the film has been described by critics as "a comedy of generational manners that blossoms into a sweet tearjerker".

The film's director reacted to the deal saying: "Its success worldwide surprises me, yet it warms my heart to know that people across the world share this value – or 🧜some kind of core – that connects us beyond the identities of countri🎶es or cultures.”

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Walton Goggins 𒐪is at the height of his career, playing everyone from a gun-slinging Ghoul (Fallout) to an eccen𓂃tric old man with megachurch money (The Righteous Gemstones) and a conman in Thailand (The White Lotus).

In the midst of all of this, his new movie The Uninvited almost feels tucked away – like a present you quietly unwrap. The soft and 🍌devastating indie comedy-drama is both a fairytale and a ghost story. It’s a meditation on regret and the thin𝓀gs we leave behind.

BIG SCREEN SPOTLIGHT

Shining a light on the under-the-radar theatrical releases that you need to know abou𝓀t, with a new article♎ every Friday

The Uninvited is written and directed by Nadia Conners (Goggins' wife) in her feature-length directorial debut – and is based on a true story that occurred at her an🔯d Goggins' home in the Hollywood hills. In the film, retired actress and reluctant stay-at-home-mom Rose (Elizabeth Reaser) and her tightly wound agent husband Sammy (Goggins) set out to host a lush, lavish dinner party for Sammy’s movie star client Gerald (Rufus Sewell).

Things don’t turn out as planned, however, when a confused, elderly woman named Helen (Lois Smith) parks her little Prius in their driveway – and doesn’t remember how to get home, insisting that their house is her hom꧙e. Their babysitter, Tracy (Kate Comer), immediately jokes that the old woman must be a witch, but as the movie progresses, you start to think that Tracy might be right.

Helen’s arrival creates a chain reaction of sorts, with Rose suddenly reevaluating her entire life, Sammy confronting his own dissatisfaction, and a series of revelations that more or less change the course of everyone’s lives. This includes two particular guests in attendance: Lucien (Pedro💟 Pascal), an effortlessly cool actor and Rose’s old flame, and Delia (Eva de Dominici), a hot young actress rising to the top in Hollywood. In the midst of all of this is a phony fortune teller, taking photos of their auras in a rented photobooth, and a hopeful bedtime story about a glowfish told by Rose and Sammy’s bright-eyed son Wilder (Roland Rubio). The house itself is alive, becoming part of the history that Helen insists that she remembers – despite her memory coming in and out as the night goes on.

It’s wild that this is Conners’ first feature-length film, because it’s just so carefully crafted. Every inch of the movie is purposeful, from the gown Rose wears at dinner (which is meant to look like the drapes) to the theme of the play that Rose and Lucien starred in together so many moons ago. One of my favorite parts is the dialogue: not a single drop is clunky or awkward, and there are no throwaway lines – everyone speaks with purpose, even if they only have a few words to say. In fact, the f꧃ilm hits a point where almost every word out of each character’s mouth is something heartbreaking: a revelation, ꦛan admission of fear or guilt, a hesitant but strong "no." There’s something especially sad about Pascal’s Lucien, who, despite all of his fame, is so hollowed out and can’t help but confuse his own narcissism for complete sincerity.

The Uninvited

"It was important to tell this story," Goggins said 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:during our interview about the film. "I would imagine that there are there are elements of our relationships tha♔t are sprinkled throughout – elements of my wife's relationship with her mother, certainly, how my wife has felt at times about her own career and what she had to give up in the Sophie's Choice that she was faced with. And the loneliness, I suppose, that we all feel."

We get a pretty clear idea of who Sammy is from just the first few moments of the film: heꦐ's tightly wound, impatient, worried about his career - and unlikabl𝄹e from the jump. But as the evening goes on, Sammy starts to unravel - and, without giving too much away, we see the softer, more frightened side.

The Uninvited can be best described with one very specific line from a Sylvia Plath poem: “Something beautiful, but annihilating.” It’s definitely a “comedy of errors,” like the promotional material says, but it hurts. There’s no way to leave the theater without thinking about ℱyour own life, your own choices, and calling up your mother to ask if she, after all these years, is satisfied with her own. Whether you think the film is rooted in reality or has a sprinkle of magic, that Helen didn’t show up in the driveway by accident, and that nearly ever𓂃y cryptic phrase out of her mouth is an incantation, is up to you.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Art imitates life and life imitates art as Oscar-winniཧng🐬 movie Conclave is reportedly becoming a useful resource for cardinals in the Vatican during the real-life proceedings to elect the next pope.

"Some have watched iཧt in the cinema," a cleric told . According to the cleric, the movie is seen as remarkably accurate even by cardinals, making it a helpful research tool. This is many of the participants' first conclave, as they were only appointed by the late Pope Francis during his papacy, and so have little experience with Vatican politics and protocol.

Pope Francis died on April 21, 2025, and the conclave📖 to elect his successor officially begins today (May 7). There are 135 eligible cardinals, and 133 of those are in attendance at the Vatican as proceedings kick off.

As for the movie, Conclave was released last fall and follows Cardinal Lawrence, played by Ralph Fiennes, as he organizes the conclave to elect the next pope – and deals with the secrets and scandals that come to light in the process as the candidates descend on the Vatican from countrie🍬s around the world. The cast also includes Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, and Isabella Rossellini.

Based on the novel of the same name by Robert Harris, the movie won🥀 Best Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars and was also 🌟nominated for Best Picture, while Fiennes and Rossellini both received acting nods.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Walton Goggins says that while it took a second, he and director-slash-spouse Nadia Conners found their footing💖 when collaborating for the very first time on The Uninvited.

"To collaborate with your spouse, I had never done that before. I sought some counsel from other friends that are are regular collaborators with their signific🎃ant other," Goggins tells GamesRadar+. "And both Nadia and I are Scorpios, separated really by two days. You know, she's November. I'm November. We are both omegas, I suppose. Or if I'm an omega, she's definitely an alpha."

"Early on in the process - even when she was bouncing ideas off of me about the film version of this because it started off as a play - we very quickly had to put our own history aside and compartmentalize that aspect of our relationship and as two artists that are col✅laborating on a journey that haven't been together for twenty years and are not parents of a fucking 14 year old child."

The Uninvited is written and directed by Conners in her feature film debut - and it's loosely based on a true story that hap𝔍pened one night at Goggins' and Conners' Hollywood home.

The comedy-drama revolves around retired actress and reluctant homemaker Rose (Elizabeth Reaser) and her intense agent husband Sammy (Goggins) as they attempt to throw a lavish house party for Sammy's biggest client (Ruꦗfus Sewell). Things don't go according to plan, however, when a confused, elderly woman (Lois Smith) shows up in their d🉐riveway and has no real way of getting home. The film is a meditation on regret - and is an emotional watch. Pedro Pascal and Eve de Dominici also star.

Added Go🌌ggins: "It was difficult - the first couple of days finding the right lane. But we did find it, and I ju♋st respect her so much and love her so much."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Walton Goℱggins says he sees himself in all of his charact💧ers, no matter how in-depth or absurd.

"I see myself in Rick Hatchett [The White Lotus]. I see myself in Lee Russell [Vice Principals]. Baby Billy [The Righteous Gemstones]. Boyd Crowder [Justified] and Shane Vendrell [The Shield] that I play. But, yeah, there are similarities there," Goggins tells GamesRadar+ whenﷺ asked if he sees himself in Sammy, the uptight protagonist in The Uninvited.

The comedy-drama, written and directed by Nadia Conners, follows retired actor and reluctant homemaker Rose (Elizabeth Reaser) and her agent husband Sammy (Goggins) as they host an important dinner party for Sammy's star client Gerald (Rufus Sewell) - that doesn't quite go as planned. In the first few min๊utes of the film, we get a pretty clear idea of who Sammy is: tightly wound, impatient, and worried about his career.

After a confused, elderly woman named Helen (Lois Smith) shows up in their driveway, convinced that their house is hers, both Sammy and Rose start to reevaluate their lives and choices. Without giving too much away, Sammy starts to unravel (and said unraveling gives us some of ✅the best lines in the film).

Goggins is known for his impressive range, playing everyone from an eccentric elderly man with megachurch money to a human-turned-zombie who styles himself as a cowboy. Sammy feels a little bit different than some of his more recent dramatic turns, and this could be because of the film's intimate nature i.e. being written and directed by Conners, his wife, and being loosely based on a true story that happen🦩ed to them both.

"I don't think it's t🍸he ambition - even though I'm an ambౠitious person, but not for the acquisition of fame. I am in search of a deeper meaning and a deeper relationship to what it is that I do for a living. And that is, you know, the great love of my life. I’ve to find a balance between my love for what I do for a living and my profound love for my family. That’s something that I deal with. I think a lot of people who were obsessed with what they do for a living feel [that way], you know."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Walton Goggins says it was vital to tell the story of The Uninvited, which is based on a strange event that occurred at his and director Nadia Conners' Hollywood h⛄ome🌊.

"It's a true story. The genesis of the story is true," Goggins tells GamesRadar+. "I would imagine that there are there are elements of our rela💮tionships that are that are sprinkled throughout – elements of my my wife's relationship with her mother, certainly, how my wife has felt at times about her own career and what she had to give up in the Sophie's Choice that that that she was face♕d with. And the loneliness, I suppose, that we all feel. But it is predicated on an elderly woman who showed up at our house thinking that it was hers on the night of a very important party that we were having."

The indie comedy of errors, written and directed by Conners, follows retired actor and homemaker Rose (Elizabeth Reaser) and her agent husband Sammy (Goggins) as they host an important dinner party for Sammy's star client Gerald (Rufus Sewell). But when ꩵa confused, elderly woman named Helen (Lois Smith) shows up in their driveway, what was meant to be a low-key soiree ends up being one of the most important nights of their lives. Pedro Pascal and Eva De Dominici round out the star-studded ensemble cast.

Conners initially conceived the story as a play, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced all of the theaters to shut down, leading her to reimagine The Uninvited as a film. Though that elderly woman did show up in their driveway, they were able to get her safe and home after 20 or so minutes of her arrival with the help of police. The film, however, explores an alternate reality where she didn't get taken home right away, and ܫthe party continued on.൩ Helen's arrival causes Rose and Sammy to completely reexamine their lives, while their party guests enjoy a lovely evening, oblivious to it all.

"It was so important to tell this story. And it is not my wife, and it's not our relationship, but there are versions. Some of these situations represent, you know, our own life, which are universal themes [that] explore probably every relationship," Goggins explains. "And I'm sure that there was a period of time in our life as a couple where I was doing everything to get her attention. You know? And I wasn't receiving it. I think that’s ubiquitous for cou🀅ples, some along the way, and then those roles shift. But the thing that I was so attracted to about the story and what my wife had done is that it really represents both sides of a relationship. And from a female's perspective and from a male's perspective, especially these two people's perspective, and, how this this catalyst, this woman played by Lois Smith, Helen, is such a a big catalyst for change in in in their in their lives and and every other person's life in the story."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> The first trailer for The Smashing Machine has arrived🔜, and it's a gritty look at a UFC ch🍬amp.

In the footage, which you can watch above, Dwayne Johnson looks unrecognizable as MMA fighter and two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion Mark Kerr. We 🍸see Kerr in multiple fights, as well as talking about his ethos towards the sport. Johnson,🍰 of course, started out as a professional wrestler, so this seems like a role that was made for him.

Emily Blunt, ♊who co-stars as Kerr's wife Dawn Staples, also features heavily in the footage, as it seems the strain of supporting Kerꦜr and his career takes its toll.

The film is written and directed by Benny Safdie in his first solo directorial effort, after previously collaborating with his brother Josh Safdie on films like Uncut Gems and Good Time. Benny Safdie is also an actor, with recent roles including Edward Teller in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer (and an upcoming role in 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:The Odyssey) and Nari in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The Smashing Machine was 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:first reported tℱo be in the works in late 2023, and Benny Safdie and Johnson💞 have been developing it since 2019. <![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Francis Ford C💜oppoꦦla's Megalopolis might be one of last year's worst reviewed films, but its lead star Adam Driver has praised the legendary director for "not letting the money dictate the content of the film".

As Coppola received AFI‘s 50th Life Achievem🤪ent Award last Saturday, the Star Wars actor praised his fearless style and award-winning career, which includes all-time classics like The Godfather and Apocalypse Now.

"A theater director who brought his process to film and revolutionized how we think about cinema, and certainly how we make it. His mov🍷ies, for some, are the yardstick to be measured by, and at the very least, examples of the possibilities in film, like in my opinion, Megalopolis," he said (via ).

Driver recalled the first day of filming Megalopolis, where Coppola offered "the best piece of direction I ever heard", telling the room: "We're not being bra𒁏ve enough." For the actor, it takes a strong vision to spend "$120 million on a piece of art, and not letting the money dictate the content of the fi📖lm".

“This is a principled life," he continued, "and for a year in our culture when the importance of the arts is minimized, and our industry is seemingly out in the open, then thꦰe only metric to judge a film's success is by how much money it makes. I hang on to individuals like Francis for inspiration, who live through their convictions, through big moves, all in service of pushing the medium forward.

"Francis took $120 million and created a singular gesture for what he thought film could be, and I think that's pretty great. That kind of move has an aftershock that certainly will be felt in his films, will be felt throughout time, and is obviously felt in this room. So, I know you have complicated feelings about awarding Francis, but to echo what everyone else has been saying, you more than deserve this moment. Congratulation on all you’ve achieved, and I’m honore🌼d to be here to celebrate you, your generosity and your bravery."

Released in cinemas last September, Megalo൩polis, which Coppola self-funded and created from an idea he had in 1983, was a commercial failure. The film earned only $14.3 million worldwide, and received dismal reviews from critics, which is reflected in its .

While seeking a fresh start, though, Tate meets a young woman called Wren, who challenges his assumptions. "Tate gradually discovers that below the surface of Wren's idylli🥃c small-town life, hatred, jealousy and greed are festering, threatening their fragile relationship just as it begins to blossom," . "Tate realizes that in order to free Wren from an increasingly desperate fate, he will need to unearth the truth about her past before time runs out… a quest that will make him doubt whether we can ever believe the stories we tell about ourselves, and the laws that govern our existence. Love – while transformative – can sometimes be frightening."

Shyamalan's most recent movie is Trap, which stars Josh Hartnett as a de🌄voted father and sadistic serial killer.

The new movie doesn't yet have a release date. While you wait, check out our guide to all the most exciting 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:upcoming movies of 2025.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> In new A24 movie Warfare, the line is blurred between fact and fiction, although this may not be intentional. What the film does intend to do, however, is provide a hyper-realist♏ic depiction of life on the frontline, based on co-writer and co-director Ray Mendoza's experience as a Navy SEAL in the Iraq War. He's collaborated with Ex Machina's Alex Garland (who he previously worked with as a military supervisor on Garland's 2024 movie Civil War) to recreate a real-life surveillance mission carried out by Mendoza's platoon in the Iraqi village of Ramadi in November 2006.

Reservation Dogs star D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai plays Mendoza, the platoon's communicator, and the ensemble cast also includes The Bear's Will Poulter, 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Fantastic Four's Joseph Quinn, Heartstopper's Kit Connor, Shogun's Cosmo Jarvis, May December's Charles Melton, and 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Daredevil: Born Again's Michael Gandolfini.

Memory or truth?

Warfare movie

"The goal was total fidelity," Garland said in an interview with , but "fidelity" isn't necessarily something that's easy to define herܫe. The source material for the film is essentially an oral history, and the movie even opens with the words, "This film uses only their memories."

This is followed by a cut to the men watching the music video for Eric Prydz's 'Call on Me', an exercise to get them hyped up for the ensuing mission. It's a moment of joyful camaraderie, made (perhaps unintenti🍷onally) chilling by another cut to the silent streets of Ramadi after dark as the platoon chooses a house for their stakeout, rounding up the young family who lives there and holding them prisoner in a bedroom. The film then picks up the following day, and from that point onwards we follow the story in real time.

Big Screen Spotlight

Things really go south for the platoon in the last third of the movie, but that means that until then there's a lot of waiting around, and Warfare captures the mundanity of military activity in a way that most war movies don't. The real-time aspect of the film also means there isn't much space in the tight 95-minute runtime for establishing char𓂃acter or existing relationships, other than the movie's fಌirst two sequences. It's an interesting choice for a film that is, ultimately, a work of fiction: it's a narrative movie with characters, not a factual documentary.

However, Jarvis, who plays lead sniper Elliott Miller (t♊o whom the movie is dedicated), described himself and his co-stars as "technicians" rather than "artists" during a pre-screening Q&A in London. It's an unusual self-descriptor for an actor and, again, blurs the line between fact and fiction in the film. Are Jarvis and co. acting or recreating? Is there a difference? And does it matter?

No winners

Will Poulter in Warfare

"[Warfare] isn’t meant to fit into some political box. There’s not a lot of narrative for a reason: it’s for you to fill in the blanks," Mendoza said in an interview with the , while Garland told the audience at that the filmꦆ has a "neutral" approach. But can a movie about war ever be truly neutral? Conflict, by definition, has two sides, and any fictional depiction of it will struggle not to fall on one or the other. Accurately depicting real-life events doesn't automatically make a recreation unbiased, especially when those events are based on subjective memories.

Big Screen Spotlight

As established in the movie's opening frame, this film is an ex🐎ercise in memory. That means it's brutal, harrowing, bloody – but not necessarily neutral. It's a noble mission statement for a film, but one that seems impossible to live up to by th🐽e nature of its medium.

With no score, earth-shattering sound design, and close-ups on gory wounds, it certainly achieves its goal of realism, though: watching Warfare in IMAX almost feels like a 4D viewing experience. Like Garland's previous movie, the Kirsten Dunst-led Civil 𝓰War, Warfare wants its audience to know that there are no winners in wartime.

"It won't lie to you. It's pure that way. You might see a lot more than you wanted, but if you have heart, you have hope."

The upcoming drama - which veers off the path from a traditional King horror – is directed by Mike🔯 Flanagan, who adapted the n𝔍ovella of the same name from Stephen King's 2020 collection If It Bleeds - and secured the rights to the story before the collection was even published.

The cast includes Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange) as a school teacher trying to apply logic to the planet’s troubles; Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy) as Chuck's ex who is a hospital worker determined to save everyone she can; with Mark Hamill and Mia Sara (Ferris Bueller's Day Off) as the grandparents who raised Chuck as a boy, and Matthew Lillard as a con🏅struction worker neighbor who finds ♛peace amongst the chaos.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Sony has🌠 finally confirmed the cast for Sam Mendes' ambitious four-part biopic about The Beatles, and now we know that the rumors were actually true.

Paul Mescal (澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Gladiator 2) will be playing Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn (澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Fantastic Four) will portray George Harrison, Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) will be Ringo Starr, and Harris Dickinson (Babygirl) completes the group as John Lennon. It was previously reported that the four stars were in talks to join this project, with the final confirmation arriving during the CinemaCon in𒀰 Las Vegas this week.

Officially titled The Beatles – A Four-Fil🗹m Cinematic Event, each movie will focus on one of the band members, with the official logline saying that "each man has his o🐭wn story, but together they are legendary."

All four films are arriving in cinemas in April 2028, but it is unclear at this point whether that means a w🔜eekly release or other sort of release strategy. Mendes claimed at CinemaCon that this will be the "first binge-able theatrical experience", so it sounds it's going to be𝔉 an innovative and, frankly, wild experiment.

"We need big cinematic events to ge🥂t people out of the house," Mendes told the audience at the Las Vegas event (via ).

The filmmaker explained that in order to tell the story of "the greatest band in h♏istory" he needed something longer than one movie and bigger than a TV series. Through four different perspectives, Mendes will show the band's incredible journey from Liverpool to the world stage. "It's a chance to understand them more deeply," he said.

After winning an Academy Award for American Beauty and helming one of the best James Bond movies ever, Mendes is taking on what is probably the most ambitious project of his movie career. Luckily, he has four of the most promising talents in today'꧙s Hollywood, and 🔯the music rights for all Beatles songs. What can go wrong?

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Kitchen dramas are all the rage (literally). Angry chefs have graced our screens 𒁃to critical acclaim in the likes of The Bear and Boiling Point, but new movie La Cocina is perhaps the one of the bleakest recent ꦐportrayals of restaurant work.

Directed by Mexican filmmaker Alonso Ruizpalacios and based on British playwright Arnold🔴 Wesker's 1957 play The Kitchen, La Cocina takes place almost entirely within the confines of The Grill, a tourist restaurant in Times Square, over the course of one day.

The restaurant has a large staff, both front and back of house, but the movie revolves mainly aroundꦺ Pedro (Raúl Briones Carmona), an undocumented Mexican chef, Julia (Rooney Mara), a pregnant waitress who's having an affair with Pedro (and deciding whether or not to keep his baby), and Estela (Anna Diaz), a new arrival in both the kitchen and the US and a family friend of Pedro's. Alongside the personal dramas that the characters ꦓbring to work, there's also the issue of a missing $800 from one of the registers, and every employee is being grilled (no pun intended) until the culprit is found.

Disorganized chaos

Raúl Briones Carmona in La Cocina

What begins as organized chaos in The Grill quickly descends into plain ol' chaos once the lunch rush kicks off: the kitchen floods with Cherry Coke when the soda dispenser m♋alfunctions, Pedro antagonizes racist chef Max, Estela struggles to find her feet, and new, older waitress Laura is picked on by mal🅠e kitchen staff. Customers are angry with the wait staff, the wait staff are angry at the chefs, and the chefs are angry at everyone: everyone is at breaking point all the time. The pressure cooker metaphor for kitchen work might be a tired one, but it's the most accurate.

Big Screen Spotlight

Shining a light on the under-t𝔍he-radar theatrical releases that you need to know about, with a new article every Friday

The focus is not on the food, but on the relationships (both good and bad) fostered betwee🅰n The Grill's four walls. Whatever fare is served there – burgers and pizzas, mostly – is thoroughly unremarkable; the only time we really get a proper glimpse of anything edible is🐬 when Pedro painstakingly prepares a sandwich for Julia before service commences, and the camera lingers on his hands in a way that makes it one of the most intimate scenes in the movie.

The camera is constantly moving, mostly around the kitchen, and occasionally into the restaurant or out into 🌞an alleyway where employees take their smoke breaks. When we do follow characters outdoors, it's so quiet and peaceful in comparison to inside – ironic, considering we're in the bustling tourist hub of New York City.

Now what?

Rooney Mara in La Cocina

In these quieter parts of the movie (moments stolen by the chefs in the alleyway, and between Julia an🍸d Pedro in the walk-in), Pedro is revealed to be very preoccupied with the idea of dreams. The American dream, of course, has not amounted to much for anyone in the film, so these characters must cast their minds a little further afield.

The ⛎film opens with a quote from an essay by the American writer Henry David Thoreau: "Let us consider the way in which we spend our lives," the on-screen text reads. "This world is a place of business. What an infinite bustle! I am awaked almost every night by the panting of the locomotive. It interrupts my dreams." Pedro's coworkers, on the whole, keep their dreams simple, amidst the interruptions.

For Pedro, though, his ultimate fantasy is respect, something that The Grill's managerial staff don't tend to indulge their employees with. In one later scene, where Ped💫ro is being questioned about the stolen money (which just so happens to be the exact amount Julia would need for an abortion) by manager Luis, a second-generation immigꦚrant and self-identified American, he interrupts him to correct his Spanish. Given the context and what's at risk for Pedro, it's a futile gesture, but he can't help himself. If respect is off the table, he at least wants superiority, if only fleetingly.

"Now what?" the restaurant's head chef asks him in the movie's final moments, when tensions have reached a head, and it's a question that echoes throughout ❀the film. At The Grill, workers are promised green cards that never materialise, staff share hopes and dreams that are just as elusive, and managerial improprieties are brushed under the carpet. Lives fall apart over the course of the shift documented in La Cocina, but it'll be business as usual the next morning.

Of course, it's already one of our most anticipated 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:upcoming movies.

With filming already under way, we won't have to wait too long to start seeing some images of the film, hopefully even a trailer in the next few months. For now, we know Matt Damon is playing the lead character, Odysseus, with 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:an early first p♚icture ღshowing him in costume. However, even that has caused some controversy among classicists over the accuracy of his armou✱r.

Historical accuracy aside, a new Christopher Nolan film is always a cinematic event. Every feature Nolan makes is always something special, but given the scope of The Odyssey this just might be his all-time masterpiece.

Despite the scale, though, 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:one of the film's cast members saಞid that Nolan ༒is helming the movie "like an indie film, because he's not doing it by committee", adding that the filmmaker is "like an indie filmmaker, but with crazy money". The film is set ꦡto be the most expensive movie of Nolan's career, with a budget of $250 million.

Ready to take a deep dive into Homer's epic story? Below, we've compiled everything there is to know about Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey release date, cast, plot, trailers, and more. The Odyssey plot

Matt Damon as Leslie Groves in Oppenheimer

If you haven't already guessed it from the title alone, The Odyssey will be based on Homer's epic a꧅ncient Greek poem of the same name.

One of the oldest surviving literary works having been written aroꦺund the 8th or 7th century BC, The Odyssey tells the story of Greek hero Odysseus over the course of 24 books. It follows the king of an island known as Ithaca as he journeys home from Troy, following the decade-long Trojan War.

That homecoming jou💧rney also takes another 10 years, as Odysseus encounters many threats including several monsters after enraging the god Poseidon by blinding one of his Cyclops sons. Whilst Odysseus is absent during this journey, his wife Penelope and son Telemachus presume he is dead, leaving them to contend with several unruly suitors who are compe🌟ting to be the former's new husband.

Over the years The Odyssey has been retold countless times so ꦉit will be interesti🧸ng to see how Nolan interprets the classic story. However, one thing is for sure – it is set to be the director's most epic feature yet.

Jim Orr, Universal Pictures' distribution chief, 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:said at CinemaCon in early April 2025 that the film will be "a visionary, onc🍸e-in-a-generation cinematic masterpiece that Homer himself would quite likely be proud of".

Is there a The Odyssey trailer?

Christopher Nolan with his Oscars for Oppenheimer

No, not yet! Curr༒ently, there's no trailer for The Odyssey. Although we have already had our first look image from the movie, it will probably be a while until we get a teaser for Christopher Nolan's next outing.

Even though shooting is currently underway, filming only began in February 2025, 𝓰so there is still a way to go until there's enough footage for a trailer. If you look at what happened with Nolan's last movie, Oppenheimer, the f𒐪irst teaser for that released in July 2022, so a year before the film's July 2023 release date.

And so, with The Odyssey set for a July 2026 release date, we could be looking at Jꦿuly this year for the first trailer. Watch this space!

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Christopher Nolan's next epic, The Odyssey, is currently in production. One of the stars, John Leguizamo has spoken about what it’s like to be on a Nolan set, and it'🐟s not quite the same as working on other blockbusters.

During an interview on , Leguizamo was asked about becoming part of Nolan’s 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:upcoming movie. The hosts joke about Nolan being prett🦩y far-flung from the world of independent filmmaking, but Leguizamo believes the Inception and Tenet director still maintains that energy.

"He's got a crazy🎀 budget, it's not small," Leguizamo states, "but he runs it like an indie film, because he's not doing it by committee, he's not doing it by what the studio says. He's like an indie⛎ filmmaker, but with crazy money."

Even though Nolan is operating on top-level money (all of his movies since The Dark Knight have cost $100 million or over), you can see the logic here. The filmmakꦯer usually writes and directs his own work, and if there's source material, it tends to be from history rather than based on any contemporary IP. The only time he's ever made a✨ sequel was in The Dark Knight trilogy.

He's a true rarity in Hollywood, where his involvement is enough to justify funding something, whatever the scope, because people love to go see his films in cinemas. Beyond how reasonaಌble Leguizamo's answer is here, it's clever because it avoids talking about what's actually happening with The Odyssey.

Matt Damon is leading the picture, as Odysseus, and he's joined by Tom Holland, Jon Bernthal, Zeꦡndaya, Anne Hathaway, and an incredibly stacked list of other actors. Much like Oppenheimer, Nolan's gathered a✤ lot of A-list talent.

The Odyssey is due to open on July 17, 2026, so it might be a little while before we hear anything more concrete. Leguizamo is currently promoting Bob Trevino Likes It, out now in cinemas in the US. 28 Years Later release date

28 Years Later is currently slated to release in cinemas on June 20.

It was shot back-to-back with its sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, so we suspect that the next installment – directed by Candyman's Nia DaCosta – won't be too far behind. Both movies were filmed 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:using a 20-iPhone rig to capture the film's "graphic" violence.

There's a🌟 third film in the pipeline after that, too, with Boyle stepping back in to cap off the trilogy. It's subtitle has yet to be revealed, which is hardly surprising, really, given that Boyle previously explꦐained to that Sony Pictures wants to see how well the first film does before it officially greenlights production.

"This is very narratively ambitious. Danny and I understood that," added writer Alex Garland, who penned the first film. "We tried to condense it, but its natural form fel♛t like a trilogy."

"You just don't get to do a story on this scale in this country," producꦬer Andrew Macdonald told the same publication. "To do something ꦰin Britain that feels like it has [size], it's great."

At CinemaCon, Boyle admitted that he was 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:struggling to find financiౠng for chapter three, as he urged genre fans to🔯 go out and support 28 Years Later and its sequel in cinemas.

28 Years Later trailer

We got our first look at 28 Yea🌳rs Later back in December 2024 – but despite its two-minute (and seven seconds) runtime, it's pretty cryptic. It opens with a bunch of children watching Teletubbies in a dated-looking terraced house, as the clip explains, "It began 10,228 days ago. Days became weeks."

The footage then shows us a wide shot of an isolated island, before we s♓ee a creepy scarecrow with an arrow through its "head", a bunch of memorial crosses, and a young man steering a horse and a cart. "Weeks became years," the text continues o♓minously, as it cuts to illustrated posters of "roles in our community" such as seamster, lookout, and councillor.

We get shots of the island's watch tower and armory as two characters pass through its heavily guarded gates and start walking the causeway between the island and mainland England. It all gets a bit a later-season Walking Dead after that, as it fol🌱lows the characters – armed with bows and arrows – through fields, abandoned farmyards, and ꦦinfected-ridden sewer systems.

"Next summer, what will humanity become... 28 Years Later?" i🧸t asks right at the end. Watch it above.

A second promo was shown behind closed doors at CinemaCon 2025. According to a report b🧸y , it opens "on three guys i🅺n military gear in a dark room, with one zombie popping out at them.

"Next we see an island, with a voiceover saying, 'many people dead… infected and non-infected alike.' 'Once you walk onto that mainland, there's no rescue.' We see Aaron Taylor-Johnson and a boy running away from about a dozen infected. Then the military guys again, but this time during the day, also running away from the infecﷺted. We see several dozen scenes of people fighting and running from infected. Lots of it seems to take place around the island and near water. Throughout the trailer, splash🥃 pages read: 'How Much Time…Do We…Have Left?'"

28 Years Later cast

Like its predecessors, 28 Years Later boasts a small but mighty cast, with Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes all having lead roles. So far, we know that Comer is playing a woman named Isla, with Johnson portraying her husband, Jamie. Alfie Williams brings their son, Spike, to life, while Sinners' Jack O'Connell, Young Royals' Edvin Ryding, The Brutalist's Emma Laird, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's Erin Kellyman are confirmed to be supporting players – though their characters have yet to be revealed. (Oh, and art dealer-turned-act🌊or Angus Neill plays an 'Emaciated Man' succumbed to the Rage Virus)

While he won't appear in 28 Years Later, Cillian Murphy is expected to have an on-screen part in its sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. "He is in the second one," Danny Boyle 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:confirmed in June 2025, although he couldn't share any more details: "I shouldn't give away too mucღh. I'll get killed."

28 Years Later plot

A still from upcoming horror sequel 28 Years Later

"It's been almost three decades since the rageꦰ virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well," reads 28 Years Later's official synopsis.

Judging 🅠by the trailer, we can assume the "he" mentioned there is Johnso💞n's Jamie.

At the end of 28 Weeks Later, it was teased that the Rage Virus had spread to Europe, with a French person calling for help through the radio in Flynn's abandoned helicop🐎ter and shots of zombies emerging from the Metro in Paris. Interestingly, however, that 28🍌 Years Later suggests countries outside of Britain "remain relatively unaffected".

ꦆThe teaser certainly doesn't offer up any glimpses at life outside of the UK, so the statement looks t🅷o check out. Either way, we're interested to see how Boyle backtracks on 28 Weeks' stinger.

"It's a closed and necessarily very tight community," Boyle told the publication, which might go some way to explaining ꦿit. "There are very strict defense laws, obviously, to survive tha𓂃t long in what is effectively an ongoing hostile environment. They've created a successful community, as they see it."

28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later recap

28 Days Later

Released in 2002, 28 Days Later was inspired by The Night of the Living Dead and The Day of the Triffids. It opens with a group of animal rights activists breaking into a research facility in Cambridge, with the hopes of releasing its unfortunate test suspects, a bunch of chimpanzees. Despite one scientist's desperate pleas for them not to open the cages, they do, and realize too late that the chimpanzees have been exposed to a substance that makes them highly aggressive – and the virus that's made them murderous is highly contagious. One activist is attacked by a ꧋chimpanzee and changes immediately, lashing out ༒at her former pals as the scientist insists they kill her to prevent an epidemic. They don't listen and the infected activist savages the others as the chimps look on.

Four weeks later, Cillian Murphy's courier Jim wakes up from a coma, having been knocked off his bike prior to the outbreak. He quickly realizes that the hospital he's in is deserted and wanders out into central London, 🅺finding it ransacked and similarly void of people. He passes🎐 a church full of the dead then runs into a horde of infected, before being rescued by fellow survivors Selena (Naomie Harris) and Mark (Noah Huntley).

At Jim's request, the trio travel to Deptford to check in on his family, but on their arrival, they learn that Jim's mother and fathﷺer have died by suicide, having left him a note that wishes he never wakes to experience the horror of the new world. At the house, Mark is bitten, but Selena hacks him to death before he can turn.

They head back into London after spotting a makeshift signal on a high-rise in Poplar and meet cab driver Fran🎉k (Brendan Gleeson) and his daughter Hannah (Megan Burns). They hole up there for a while before setting off to Manchester, after Frank catches wind of a sanctuary up north. Their travels are intercepted by a bunch of soldiers, though, who execute a newly-infected Frank and kidnap the others, taking them to their fortified mansion in the country. Before long, Jim discovers that the soldiers have been luring female survi🍎vors into sexual slavery, having tricked them with the promise of food and protection.

Jim is horrified and teams up with repentant Sergeant Farrell (Stuart McQuarrie) to kill the soldiers' twisted leader Major Henry West (Christopher Eccleston), which thꦛey pull off by releasing the infected private he's been keeping chained up in the courtyard – though Fܫarrell is killed in the chaos.

Convinced it's only Britain that's been overrun by zombies, Jim, Selena, and Hannah escape to a remote farm in Cumbria, and before long, they notice that the infected nearby have started dying from starvation. The film ends with the trio trying to get the attention of a Hawker Hunter plane flying overhead,꧟ with a huge cloth banner that spells out "hello" on the hills. While they can't be certain on the ground, the film makes clear that the pilot spots them, which explains how Jim is set to appear in The Bone Teꦡmple.

Released in 2007, 28 Weeks Later picks up seven months later, though it kicks off with a flashback to the outbreak. In the cold open, Robert Carlyle's Don selfishly abandons his wife when a bunch of infected descend upon their cottage on𝓰 the outskirts of London.

In the present day, the US military is seen taking control of Britain under Brigadier General🐬 Stone (Idris Elba). Among the refugees and settlers they're handling are Don and Alice's children, Tammy and Andy, who have been out of the country. The siblings are taken to District One, a well-protected safe zone on the Isle of Dogs, where they reunite with their father, who lies about their mothꩲer's presumed death.

One night, Tammy (Imogen Poots) and Andy (Mackintosh Muggleton) sneak out of the safe zone and travel to their faဣmily home, with the mission to collect old photographs as memories of the before times, but are followed by Sergeant Doyle (Jಞeremy Renner). There, they find Alice (Catherine McCormack) in a delirious, semi-conscious state, before being carted back to District One. Alice is placed in quarantine and undergoes tests carried out by medical officer and asymptomatic carrier Scarlet (Rose Byrne).

Don disobeys orders and enters Alice's room, where she lashes out at him for leaving her behind and kisses him. Don immediately succumbs to ♌the 🔯Rage Virus and kills Alice, before more and more refugees and soldiers start getting infected. Scarlet and Doyle whisk Tammy and Andy away from the rapidly escalating chaos, suspecting that their DNA might hold the key to a cure, as the Air Force firebombs the camp. Don escapes into a desolate London, while the survivors head to Wembley Stadium – though they lose Doyle, who's attacked by American soldiers with flamethrowers, on the way. The others pivot to the London Underground, but run into Don, who kills Scarlet and bites Andy. Tammy kills Don, as it's revealed Andy is immune in the same way his mother was.

Tammy and Andy makꦆe it to the stadium, where a helicopter pilot named Flynn (Harold Perrineau) reluctantly agrees to fly them to France.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> The Alto Knights is a gangster story that revolves around two larger than life figures: Frank Costello and Vito Genovese. Both were at different times known as the 'Boss of Bosses' in the American Mafia, and, in The Alto Knights, 澳洲幸🌜运5开奖号码历史查询:they're b𝓰oth played by Robert De Niro.

"A lot of the history of what they actually were known for, what they did, ﷽looking at videotapes and stuff, there was not as much as I thought there would have been," De Niro tells us when we meet with him in London. "But there was enough for me on Genovese and Costello – and books I'd🌠 read, many books on Costello."

Costello is actually a role De Niro almost played 50 years ago in a project with The Deer Hunter director Michael Cimino, too. "In fact, [producer] Irwin Winkler wanted to do a movie. He talked to Mike Cimino, and Cimino talked to me about the Costello cha🌼racter in theꦚ late '70s," he recalls.

Of course, with figures like Costello and Genovese, they cas🐎t long shadows not just in the annals of history, but in pop culture, too. "They were well known, almost mythological types of characters in those days, and things for other movies were taken off what was known about them," De Niro reflects. "I think even the drug thing in The Godfather was [inspired by them]. In this case, we have it with Genovese and Costello, and I think that might have been taken from what was known about that conflict with Costello and Genovese for the drug conflict in The Godfather, I think."

But De Niro's co-star Debra Messing, who plays Bobby Costello, the strong, capable wife of Costello, admits she wasn't an expert going into the film. "The thing that struck me was that I had never known about their relationship, and I didn't know the story, and tha🌺t was really in💖triguing to me," she says. "And also the character of Bobby was such an atypical wife of a mafioso, that was thrilling for me."

Like De Niro, Messing threw herself into research to portray Bobby. "I read seven books on Frank Costello, and there was a lot of information about Bobby and her temperament, and how tꩵheir marriage was really special in that way," she explains. "And so it really gave me the confidence to bring that strength to the role."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> The Alto Knights sees Robert De Niro play opposite none other than himself, embodying the dual roles of i𝓰nfamous crime bosses Frank Costello and Vito Genovese.

It's a tale of childhood friendship turned to bitter rivalry and betrayal, based on the real history of the downfall of the American Mafia. De Niro, of course, is no stranger to the genre, having starred in some of the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:greatest gangster movies ever made – Goodf෴ellas, The Irishman, Casino, and The Godfather Part 2, to name a few – and neither is the film's writer. The Alto Knights is scripted by Nicholas Pileggi, the veteran crime reporter who co-wrote the screenplays for Goodfellas and Casino wit♌h Martin Scorsese (and also penned their source material).

"[Producer] Irwin Winkler called me and asked me, he said he had a script, if I'd read it," recalls De Niro when we meet with him and his co-star Debra Messing in London to talk about the movie. "Nick Pileggi had written i꧒t and Barry Le🎶vinson was going to direct it."

While De Niro's professional familiarity with the film is obvious, then, he also surprisinglyꩲ has a personal link to ꦡThe Alto Knights, which takes its name from the old social club in Little Italy, New York City.

"So I read it and was of course very curious about it, and we met and talked," De Niro continues. "And one thing I had asked Nick about is why he used Alto Knights. I said, 'I don't know if you know this, but I know this place. I used to hang out there when I was a teenager.' And so he said he used it for the story. It must have been a title th🥃at he saw, he knew himself, because he wrote a great piece on Little Italy in the early '70s that in fact I told Marty Scorsese about and said, 'You should read this.' It was a very accurate, terrific piece. He knew about the world down there, the social clubs, and all that stuff. I forget the exact, but he said he got it from that somehow."

Whi🥃le Costello acts as the film's protagonist, he's shadowed by De Niro's other role: Genovese. As De Niro explains, he was first approached about playing Costello, and the concept of playing both gangsters naturally arose later.

"The idea of playing the two, Irwin Winkler had brought up the idea as we talked about the script. 'How about you playing the two parts?'" De Niro says. "It wasn't an immediate idea. It was something when we were thinking of who would play – they were offering me Costello – who would play Genovese. They went through some names and then Irwin said, 'Maybe you ought to try that.' I thought, 'Well, that's interesting. Let m𒁃e think about it.'"

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Shogun🌠 star Cosmo Jarvis has joined the cast of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey - and I don't think the cast list is eꦬver going to end.

According to , Jarvis has joined the pic in an unknown role, ꧟which is now filmin♕g in Morocco.

The blockbuster, which boasts a budget of x, is based on Homer's epic poem. The story follows Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, who tries his damndest to return home after the 10-year-long Trojan War - but it doesn't exactly happen that way. The journey lasts 10 years, during which all of his crewmates are killed. He encounters a Cyclops, a seductive goddess, some Sirens, and a plethora of other dangers (we do meet the goddess Athena, whi൩ch is who I'm hoping Zendaya is playing) all while his wife Penelope and son Telemachus are left to deal with a bunch of unruly men competing for Penelope's hand in marriage.

At the time of writing, ﷽the absolutely stacked cast includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, Corey Hawkins, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, Lupita Nyong’o, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, and Robert Pattinson. It's starting to feel a lot like Oppenheimer, when a new A-lister was announced as part of the cast nearly every other week. Althougꦬh, we're not complaining.

Jarvis currently stars as John Blackthorne in✱ Shogun, and can be seen next in The Alto Knights, starring Robert De Niro, A24's Wardare, and thriller Inside opposite Guy Pearce.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Adrien Brody made O🌠scars history again this year. In addition to being the youngest winner of the Best Actor award, he's now the record-holder for longest acceptance speech in Academy Awards history, breaking a record that’s stood since World War Two.

Brody added a 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:second Best Actor statue to his award🦹s cabinet at the 97th Acad🅷emy Awards, for his performance in The Brutalist. The honor definitely wasn't lost on him, since he commemorated the achievement with a speech that lasted five minutes and 40 seconds.

If that sounds a little long to you, the Academy would agree, since the wrap-up music st𓂃arted playing around three minutes in, only f🔴or Brody to wave it away. "I will wrap up, please turn the music off," the emotional star says. "I've done this before, thank you. Not my first rodeo, but I will be brief, I promise," he adds, before going on for another minute.

This put him a good 40 seconds over Greer Garson, who set the previous record at five minutes when she won Best Actress for Mrs. Miniver in 1943. After 82 years, she's🅺 been usurped, and judging by some of the reactions, it might be another 82 before we see anything like this again.

In particular, Cillian Murphy, who won the category last year for Oppenheimer and gave out this year’s award, in the aftermath thanks to his patience behind Brody. Truly a man who represented us all♉ in that moment.

Brody received one of three awards The Brutalist managed to get, the other two being Best Cinematography and Best Original Score. The drama, directed by Brady Corbet, which follows a holocaust survivor's life after moving to the United States post-war, received a l๊arge number of nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Anora, from director Sean Baker, picked up the latter two. Brody got his first Best Actor Oscar win in 2003 for The Pianist, and he's now two for ꦿtwo on nods and victories in the category.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Anora has taken home the award for Best Picture at this year's Oscars, while also cementing the film as thiꦡs year's leading light at the Academy Awards with five wins.

Directed by Sean Baker, Anora follows the story of Ani (Mikey Madison), a 𒅌young stripper soon dra♛wn into the orbit of Vanya (Mark Eydelshteyn), the son of a Russian oligarch.

Anora beat a 10-strong Best Picture lineup this year, which included the likes of Bob Dylan biopic A Co🍎mplete Unknown, papal drama Conclave, and sci-fi blockbuster Dune: Par🌠t Two.

It had been a topsy-turvy🐬 awards season, with many tipping The Brutalist to pick up the top award on the night. However, a recent flurry of triumphs for Anora, including at the DGA awards and the Critics' Choice awards, led to the momentum swinging back in its favor after plenty of early buzz since picking up the Palme d'Or at last year's Cannes Film Festival.

Speaking on stage after receiving the award, director Sean Baker said, "I want to thank𒁃 the Academy for recognizing a truly independent film...🐼 long live independent film." The award was presented by When Harry Met Sally co-stars Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Zoe Saldaña has been named the Best Supporting Actress at this year's 🐟Oscars. The Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy star picked up the gong – her first Academy Award – for her performance in Jacques Audiard's musical thriller Emilia Pérez.

Released on ꦗNetflix on October 25, the Spanish-language film sees Saldaña play Rita Mora Castro, a Mexico City-based lawyer tasked with helping a cartel boss undergo gender-affirming surgery and start a new, more authentic life. It is loosely adapted from French writer Boris Razon's 2018 novel Écoute.

Having already bested the competition at the BAFTAs, Critics Choice Awards, the Golden Globes, and the SAG Awards, it was hardly a🤪 surprising victory – though still one that evidently meant a great deal to the 46-year-old...

While accepting the accolade, Saldaña, who beat out Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unkno𝄹wn), Ariana Grande (Wicked), Felicity Jones (The Brutalist), and Isabella Rossellini (Conclave), said through tears: "I am flo🙈ored by this honor. Thank you to the Academy for recognizing the quiet heroism and power in a woman like Rita. Talking about powerful women: my fellow nominees, the love and community you have given me is a gift. I will pay it forward... to my cast and my crew, I am sharing this award with you."

Saldaña also made note of being the first American o❀f Dominican origin to win an Oscar.

While one of Saldaña's co-stars, Selena Gomez, missed out on a nomination (deღspite bagging nods at the BAFTAs and Golden Globes), Karla Sofía Gascón, who plays the titular Emilia, was up for Best Actress – marking the first tim🌄e an openly trans actor has been up for one of the event's most prestigious prizes.

Gascón attended the ceremony despite controversy surrounding some of her resurfaced social mediꩵa posts, which touched on subjects such as Islam and the death of George Floyd, as well as past Oscar winners like Daniel Kaluuya and Yuh-jung Youn.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Kieran Culkin has won the Academy Award for Best൲ Supporting Actor at the 2025 Oscars.

The actor dedicated the latter half of his acceptance speech to his wife, telling a story aꦓbout how she told him they could have four kids "if he𒊎 wins an Oscar." Culkin turned to his wife in the audience and mused, "Ye of little faith."

Culkin has taken home the gold for his role as Benji Kaplan in A Real Pain, starring opposite Jesse Eisenberg (who also wrote and directed the movie). In the run-up to the Oscars, Culkin was easily the favori𝄹te to win after securing a BAFTA, Golden Globe, and SAG award. Culkin, of course, thanked Eisenberg in his speech, praising his talent and joking that this was the only time he would ever do so.

He beat Guy Pearce (Theꦫ Brutalist), Edward Norton (A Complete Unknown), and his𒁃 former Succession co-star Jeremy Strong (The Apprentice).

A Rea🌳l Pain follows cousins Benji and David (Eisenberg) on a Jewish heritage guided tour of Poland after the death𓆏 of their grandmother, who was a Holocaust survivor.

The movie filmed at the Majdanek State Museum, and Eisenberg talke👍d to GamesRadar𝐆+ about shooting in the real historical location. "It was an amazing privilege to shoot there. It took a long time to negotiate with them, to express what I was trying to do, which was to show this place as it is now, see a tour group go through it," he explained. "Essentially, that's their mission statement too, showing the place as it is now, explaining to people. In my case, it's for a movie audience and in theirs, it's tourists."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> All the waiting, campaigning, and Letterboxd debates are over. Thiဣꦬs is it: the 97th Academy Awards are here.

Over the next fe🏅w hours, we'll guide you through th🦩e 2025 Oscars, minute-by-minute, at the end of what has been an unpredictable awards season and what promises to be one of the most exciting, gripping ceremonies in years.

Will Anora reign supreme? Or will Emilia Pérez make good on its dozen-plus nominations and sweep the board? With the likes of The Brutalist, 🎶Conclave, and A Complete Unknown making up a formidable field in the past year's film, anything could happen.

There's been plenty of controversy, too. Away from actors getting themselves in hot water and AI rearing its ugly head once more, there's been plenty of discussion about what did and didn't make it into the final reckoning.

Dune director Denis Villeneuve was snubbed by the Academy for Best Director. While five first-time nominees should be applauded, it was a head-scratching decision that led to Josh Brolin dramatically 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:declaring he would 'retire' from acting if Villeneuve didn't make the cut.

If you're still playing catch-up before everything kicks off, you'll need our guides to the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Oscars 2025 nominations and 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Oscars 2025 predictions.

Who is taking home Best Picture?

Mikey Madison and Mark Eidelstein in Anora

Hello and welcome to our coverage of this year's Osca💮rs! Emilia Perez's 13 nominations may look starry on paper, but this is anyone's night and the pendulum has swung massively in recent weeks.

Take the Best Picture race: The Brutalist, Emilia Per𝄹ez, Conclave, and Anora have all been realistic frontrunners in recent months, but the momentum now seems to be with Sean Baker's Anora. We're just a few hours from finding out whether it'll take home the gong or whether one of the other 10-strong field gets their name called. Let's hope for no Moonlight-style mistakes froꦿm the host...

Who is hosting this year's Oscars?

Everyone's favorite late night talk show sensation (and a Simpsons writer way back when) Conan O'Brien is on hosting duties tonight.

If his work is any indicat⛎ion, expect some off-the-cuff zingers, warm comedy work, and skewering of the Hollywood elite. A perfect host, then, if you ask usไ.

What are the biggest snubs at the 2025 Oscars?

colman domingo and the cast of sing sing

We've already mentioned Denis Villeneuve being left out of the running for Best Director.🧔 But who else surprisingly 🙈didn't make the cut?

All told, the Oscars has gotten much better at recognizing talent across the board. Big musicals such as Wicked and more populist choices are now commonpla🐭ce on the night.

Still, Sing S🥀ing, September 5, and Challengers don't have as weighty a presence as we would have perhaps predicted a few months ago. A glimpse, then, in the constantly-swaying attitude𝐆s of voters, press, and Hollywood itself.

The perma-awkward Chicken Shop Date extraordinare Amelia Dimoldenberg is the official Oscars Ambassador tonight and is currently working her magic on the red carpet. Right now, she's chatting to Heartstopper's Kit Connor about losing his Os𒁏cars virginity. Naturally.

While everyone will, rightly♐ or wrongly, be focusing on the big hitters and major awards tonight, spare some time to zero in on on the incredible work done from t🧔he slightly more unheralded talents.

The Oscars YouTube 🅘channel, for example, has been putting out some great viewing over the past few days, not least of all a look at this year's makeup and hairstyle nominees.

The Oscars schedule: when are the awards being given out?

Ariana Grande as Glinda in Wicked

The 97th Academy Awards 🎶kicks off at 4:00 P♔M Pacific/7:00 PM Eastern/midnight GMT and is expected to last for anywhere between three and three-and-a-half hours.

  • Best Picture

The Oscars may be hours long, but maybe it can take some cues from Best Supporti🐻ng Actress nominee Isabella Rossellini, who ate up every single second of her eight-minute screentime as the towering Sister Agnes in Conclave.

Incredibly, it's not even the shortest role to get an Oscar nod. That goes to Bea𓃲trice Straight, who was on screen for all of 340 seconds in Network and ended up taking home the award for Best Supporting Actress.

30 minutes to go!

Not long to go now. The Oscars are just 30 minutes away. While some Academy Awards feel wrapped up before the night even begins (just look at Oppenheimer's sweep last year), this feels altogether more exciting. All the more reason𓄧♔, then, to stay with us to see what unfolds...

Here at GamesRadar+, we've championed some of the big films and important voices you may have mis🎃sed this year.

In our Big Screen Spotlight series, we've sat down with the likes of Adri𓂃en Brody and Kieran Culkin about their Oscars hopefuls. Dive into some yourself before the Academy Awards begin. I'm biased, but th🥀ey really are brilliant.

And here we go!

The Oscars has kicked off in fi🦩ne, poignant style with a celebration of some of the industry's finest films and most iconic L.A.-set moments through the decades. Ar𒉰iana Grande even treats us to a rendition of 'Over the Rainbow'.

A bewitching beginning

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as Glinda and Elphaba in Wicked

Cynthia Erivo soon joins Ariana Grande and, of course, they belt out Wicked's showstopper 'Defying Gravity'. Now that ಌis what we call a tone-setter. That was something special.

Host Conan O'Brien is in fine form, first emerging from Demi Moore in a Substance-infused vignette before delivering jokes in an opening monologue about Netflix's price increases, some sly jabs about Wicked, and The Brutalist's bumper r♉untime.

We didn't expect Adam Sandl🍃er to steal the show tonight but there he is in full hoodie and shorts get-up, asking to be removed by Conan O'Brien.ღ He leaves, but not before rambling in character about midnight basketball games and Timothee Chalamet.

Best Supporting Actor

A Real Pain

Robert Downey Jr. is out to present the night's first award: Best Supporting Actor. After describing Jeremy🎉 Strong as "irrefutably the most serious actor on Earth", he finally read out the names.

And the winner is... A Real Pain's Kieran Culkin!

One down, 22 to go. Right now, we're watching a vignette - backed by the voice of director James Mangold - about A C🔯omplete Unknown.

A🤪ndrew Garfield and Goldie Hawn are on stage, with Garfield charmingly stumbling through a dedication to Hawn's career.

Next up, Best Animated Feature Film...

Best Animated Feature Film

The cat's got the cream... and the Oscar. Flow, the wordless journey of a cat, captured hearts and imaginations last year. We expected The Wild Robot to win, but we're pleasantly surprised Flowꦿ came out on top here.

In the Shadow of the Cypress wins Best Animated Short, with the creators explainiꦛng ꦅthat they only landed in L.A. mere hours ago. They dedicate their award to those "fighting their inner and outer battles."

"We are so grateful to the Academy," they added.

The stars in the films for Costume Design are out, but only Bowen Yang🦂 seemingly got the memo to dress up a a charꩲacter from their respective feature.

Once the jokes are 🦩out the way, each actor gives a genuinely touching tribute to the costume designers. It's easy to forget just how much work goes into this process (as Elle Fanning says, Timothee Chalamet had 76 looks alone in A Complete Unknown). A nice moment for each of them, for sure.

And the Oscar goes to... Wicked! We have♛ a fꦐeeling the film might be popular tonight.

Screenplays

Mikey Madison and Mark Eidelstein in Anora

We're onto the screenplays, with Amy Poehler reading out the names 🐓of the♐ winners.

Best Original Screenplay was hotly contested, but goes to Sean Baker for Anora. A sign of more success tonight, perhaps?

Adapted Screenplay goes to Conclave. Thank the high heavens.

Best Makeup and Hair goes to The Substance, not least because of its gore-tastic body horror. We're still thinking about that ending - and it couldn🌊't have been achieved without the legion of artists making things look as squeamish as (in)humanly possible on the big screen.

Michael 🦩G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli are among those honored on stage, alongside a musical tribute to 007 himself, Jame✱s Bond.

Daniel Craig in No Time to Die

"The world's sexiest Daryl" (Conan O'Brien's words) Daryl Hanna🐼h is out now to celebrate the artists who "shape the stories we tell."

Best Film Editing was always going to be a tough one to call but, tonight, the Oscar goes to Anora. It's been her night so far, hasn't it?

Best Supporting Actress

Zoe Saldana in Emilia Perez

Another major acting award next. Last year's winner Da'Vine Joy Randolph began by bestowing compliments on the nominees. After being the frontrunner for months, Emilia Perez's Zoe Saldaña picks up the award.

We're about halfway through the Oscars. If you're watching around the world - inclu🌱ding the UK - then check your watches: you've probably got about two hours left. Maybe stock up on caffeine ju🌳st in case?

In ✅one of the nig♈ht's best jokes, Ben Stiller introduces Production Design - via the medium of a malfunctioning trap door.

In an industry filled with green screens and CGI, it's always a relief to see so much practical quality throughout Hollywood and beyond. Wicked takes home the award.

They've had some great hosts tonight, but surely none will beat Mick Jagger for Best Original Song. El Mal from Emilia Pérez hit all the right notes with voters, ♉and sees the Netflix movie net its second win on the night.

Some quickfire, but no less important, awards now. But not before a Kendrick Lamar line from Conan O'Brien that we definitely can't repeat here. Still, it was certainly one way to mark💯 the official halfway point of t💫his year's Oscars.

The Only Girl in the Orchestra wins 💜Best Documentary Short; Best Documentary Feature goes to No Other Land

By my bleary-eyed count - (it is gone 2am where I am, after all) - there are 10 Oscars still to hand out. We have a feeling this is goi💞ng to overrun well past its three-hour runtime...

Best Sound

Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides in one of the best sci-fi movies of all time, Dune Part 2.

Listen up: Best Sound is next, presented by Miley Cyrus and Miles Teller. It's Dune: Part Two, ensuring🐻 the sci-fi block🌺buster won't go home empty handed tonight.

I spoke too soon. Dune: Part Two also picks up the Oscar for Best Visual Effects. By my count, it's going to be one of the night's big winners thanks to how spread outꦦ each category has been so far. No Titan𓆏ic-style sweeps here, then.

We've got Live Action Short and the In Memoriam section coming up next. We've lost so many greats in the past 12 months, 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:David Lynch and 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Gene Hackman among them. Their work will live on far beyond tonight, but it's a chance to say goodbye once more ꦑto some greats of the industry.

Best Cinematography and Best International Feature are the next awards to be dished out. Interestingly, there's still no runaway succꦏess this year: Em⛦ilia Perez, Wicked, Dune: Part Two, and Anora are all on two Oscars apiece, though we expect that to change in the coming 10 minutes.

The winner for Best Cinematography is The Brutalist, its first win on the♏ night.

Be🐼st International Feature goes to Brazil's I'm Still 😼Here

I'm Still Here

Or💯iginal Score will be sounding off next, then it's time for the Big Four on the night: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, and Best Picture. We imagine Anora might be standing head and shoulders above the rest when all is said and done.

"If you're still enjoying the show, you have something called Stockholm Syndrome," Conan O'Brien quipped. Hey, we're here ♒because we love movies - and to see who is taking home the big gongs. It's Best Actor time as last year's winner Cillian Murphy strides on stage.

Best Actor

Adrien Brody as László Tóth in The Brutalist

It's Adrien Brody!

That's the second Best Actor win of Brody's career, joining a small group of actors who h๊ave won on multiple occasions, including Jack Nicholson and Marlon Brando. The actor first won back in 2003 for The Pianist.

Quentin Tarantino hands out the award for Best Di🎐rector.🍬 "Good directors don't just make the shots; they make 'em count," he said.

As expected, Sean Baker 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:picks up another award for Anora.

T🌱hat's three for Anora and three for The Brutalist. This is all going to come down to the very final awards with Best Actress and Best Picture due to be announced in the coming minutes...

Best Actress

Anora

And the Oscar goes to... Mikey Madison!

The actress looks genuinely stunned b🐎y the announcement. Madison, who plays Ani i♏n Anora, nervously listed off a list of people to thank, including her family and director.

Best Picture

Mikey Madison and Mark Eidelstein in Anora

ANORA!

And just as quickly as the Oscars ended so, too, must I wrap up. Thank you for joining me tonight. The headlines? Anora 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:took home Best Picture, B🐓est Actress, and Best Director among its five-award haul.

The real surprise was just how evenly the gongs were spread elsewhere. The Brutalist picked up three Oscars, while Wicked, Dune: Part Two and ♌Emilia Perez got two apiece.

The Oscars is over everyone

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> On the surface, Gia Coppola’s The Last Showgirl is a gloomy, glitzy t💝ale about a Las Vegas dancer who doesn’t quite know what to do after she gets the news that her show is closing. Underneath, it’s a story about motherhood and the sacrifices we make in order to live out our biggest and wildest dreams. I spent the last 45 minutes of the movie crying – and then I called my mom after.

The film, which is somehow only Gia Coppola’s third feature, stars Pamela Anderson as Shelly, a showgirl who has been performing in the same show, Le Razzle Dazzle, for three decades. Shelly loves the show, and, at 57, has no intention of🔯 retiring. Sometime after Shelly learns that the show is coming to an enꦿd, we learn that she has an estranged daughter named Hannah (Billie Lourd) – and, to me, this is the true core of the film.

Give ‘em the ol’ razzle dazzle

The Last Showgirl

There’s some irony to the title of Shelly’s show, given that it doesn’t impress or entertain Hannah at all. As we get further and further into the film, we learn that Shelly put her career as a dancer first, and basically raised Hannah until she couldn’t anymore. Hannah, now 22 and about to graduate college, was raised by Shelly’s ex-husband – and the two don’t have much of a relationship at all. Though it isn’t for lack of trying: Shelly, suddenly feeling like her life is over, calls Hannah and asks her to come over. Hannah does wa🐬nt a relationship with her mother (who she, heartbreakingly, only addresses by her first name), but feels as though she chose Le Razzle Dazzle over her.

There is a scene I won’t spoil for you that involves Hannah confronting her mother over her life choices, and it’s here that Shelly has a full and complete breakdown. She starts to question the trajectory of her entire life, her choices, and whether staying in Vegas to dance for 30 years was⭕ worth it after all. I can’t imagine anyone else playing this role, as there’s something so perfect about h🥂er sadly smoking a cigarette against a backdrop of fake palm trees, the Vegas sunset reflecting off those shiny city buildings. When we see the sequined costumes, the bright pink feathers, the jeweled headpieces, the rush of running backstage to make your cue – and just how purely and truly blissful it makes Shelly – it’s hard not to hate Hannah a little. We, the viewer, get so caught up in the romance of it all that we absolutely get why Shelly put it first.

A dream is a wish your heart makes

The Last Showgirl

I’ll be honest: I don’t know what the moral of this particular story is supposed to be. Do we pursue our dreams? Do we give them up for someone else? I think Coppola, and screenwriter Kate Gersten, meant to leave that up to us. The movie doesn’t decide for us – and maybe that’s why I can’t seem to stop thinking about it. The understood norm is that a mother makes sacrifices for her child, gives up everything (lifelong dreams included) for her child – not the other way 🔯around. But maybe that’s what makes the film almost jarring: we don’t really see it depicted this way around in cinema. Sure, we see the concept of the ‘bad mother’ more oftentimes than not, but is Shelly actually a bad mother? Well, that’s up for the viewer to decide. And that’s part of what makes this movie something truly special. Much like the Las Vegas speakeasies or the forgotten museums, The Last Showgirl feels like a hidden gem among the big-budget dramas and biopics we’ve seen throughout this awards season. Though it feels quietly tucked away, it’s something everyone should see.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> In September Says, home is where the horror is. Although the film is set in present-day England and Ireland, it's a good old-fashioned Gothic fairytale at its core that pays homa❀ge to The Haunting of Hill House author Shirley Jackson in more ways than one.

Based on the novel Sisters by Daisy Johnson, the movie is the directorial debut of Ariane Labed. She's best known for her work as an actor, appearing in her husband Yorgos Lanthimos' movies The Lobster and Alps, along with titles like A🧸ssassin's Creed, alongside Michael Fassbender, and Mary Magdalene, opposite Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix.

Big Screen Spotlight

Shining a light on the under-the-radar t🎉heatrical releases that you need to know about, with a new article every Friday

September Says follows July (Mia Tharia) and September (Pascale Kann), two teenage sisters living an insular, co-dependent life under the less-than-watchful eye of their mother Sheela (Sex Education's Rakhee Thakrar). July is meek and obedient while September is domineering and often cruel: the title refers to a game the two often play, riffing on 'Simon Says', where September makes increasingly bizarre or dangerous demands of July for her own entertainment, prefaced with 'September says…'. She pushes her sister to the limits of her devotion to see if she'll snap, but she neve𒐪r does. When September is suspended from school for cutting off another girl's hair, however, July begins to experience something resembling independence for the first time – a🦋nd isn't so willing to rescind it once her sister is back in the classroom.

A family affair

Pascale Kann, Rakhee Thakrar, and Mia Tharia in September Says

The camera keeps the audience at a distance from July and September throughout the film. Indoor overhead shots position the viewer higher than the ceiling should allow us to be, which disorientates us from t🎀he get-go, and scenes are punctuated by unsettling isolated images that feel in the vein of Lanthimos' earlier Greek-language work like Dogtooth: September unwillingly being fitted for a dress with her mother🅷's pin cushion in her mouth, or a spillage of milk at July's bare feet on the kitchen floor. All of this hammers home a singular point, that only the sisters truly know each other and we're as excluded from their inner world as their classmates and their mother.

Sheela doesn't really know what to do with her daughters, despite seemingly raising them alone. "Where did you learn to be like that?" she asks them, despairingly, at one point. S🌜eptember Says is concerned with how claustrophobic your own family can feel: how can you become your own person if you can't escape where you came from? Except, instead♌ of using the usual parent-child relationship to explore this, the film lasers in on a dysfunctional sibling relationship, taking the intensity of a co-dependent relationship between teenage girls to the next level by bringing a familial bond into the mix.

The film is split into two halves, bisected by a terrible accident the details of which remain a mystery until the movie's climax, and this chronological line in the sand also represents a blurring between dream (or nightmare) for its characters. "No live organism can continu🉐e for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream," July's English teacher reads aloud to her class early on in the film, which is the opening line of The Haunting of Hill House. July and September live in their own universe and disengaging from reality becomes a survival mechanism for the characters in September Says. But when the line between fantasy and real-life sharpens into clarity, it becomes apparent that it's a universe se🍎t to self-destruct.

September Says is out now in UK cinemas. For more on what to watch, check out the rest of our 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Big Screen Spotlight series.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is set to lead Martin Scorsese's new mafia drama – and we're here fওo♉r it.

has described Johnson's character as "Robert De Niro's Jimmy the Ge✱nt character from Goodfellas, but as a ruthless Hawaiian crime boss, based on a real figure, who battled encroaching rivals for control of organized crime in Hawaii."

The upcoming pic, which does not yet have a title, takes place during a "turbulent time" on the island of paradise when "an aspiring mob boss battled rival crime factions to wrest control of the underworld of the Hawaiian islands." Deadline adds that the movie will cover the same "kind of terrain that Scorsese explored in both Goodfellas and The Departed."

Scorsese will direct from a screenplay penned by Nick Bilton, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Emily Blunt set to star. No other casting announcements have been made at this🀅 time.

Johnson is currently starring alongside Blunt in Benny Safdie's The Smashing Machine, in which he plays former wrestler and MMA fighter Mark Kerr. This will mark the first link-up for Johnson and Scorsese, though this will be the eighth movie collabor🐼ation for the director and DiCaprio.

Scorsese's upcoming pꦰrojects also include a biographical film about the life of Jesus and a biopic about Frank Sinatra reportedly starring DiCaprio, .

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Ethan Hawke has responded to daughter – and fellow actor – Maya Hawke's claims that producers look at an actor's amount of Instagram followers when cast꧋ing for a proj✤ect.

"I really feꩲel for these people. It’s really hard," Ethan Hawke said at the Berlin Film Festival (H/T ).

"Sometimes I’ll be setting a movie up and someone will say, ‘Oh, you should cast Suzie.’ I’m li🥃ke, ‘Who is she?’ ‘She has 10 m😼illion followers.’ I’m like, ‘OK cool, has she acted before?’ ‘No, but…’ And you’re like, ‘Wow, so this is going to help me get the movie made? This is crazy.'"

Hawke ad🦹ded, "So if I don’t have this public-facing [platform], I don’t have a carﷺeer? And if I get more followers I might get that part? What?"

While stunt casting is nothing new in Hollywood, 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Maya Hawke's recent comments on the will have certainly raised eyebrows – particularly the idea that a project may need an "amount ๊of collective followers" from its actors, which can affect the makeup of the entire cast.

"It's like, 'I don't care about Instagram; Instagram sucks.' Right, but just so you know, 🐎if you have over this many followers, you can get the movie funded," Maya Hawke said. "Well, I want to make the 🐭movie, so you know, like, it's a really confusing line to walk,"

She continued, "I've talked to so many smart directors. I'm talking to them about how I'm going to delete my Instagram, and they're like, 'Just so you know, when I'm casting🐼 a movie with some producers, they hand me a sheet with the amount of collective followers I have to get of the cast that I cast. So if you delete your Instagram and I lose those followers, understand that these are the kinds of people I need to cast arouꦗnd you.'"

Instagram or no Instagram, Maya and Ethan Hawke remain booked and busy in the months ahead. Maya Hawke, of course, will return as Robin Buckley in 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Stranger Things season 5 (and has already teased the movie-length runtime of its eight episodes), while Ethan Hawke is reprising his role as The Grabber in the upcoming Black Phone sequel, with filming 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:getting underway last November.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> Universal Pictures unveiled the first look at M🎀att Damon in Christopher 🍨Nolan's The Odyssey earlier this week – and with the movie having only started filming in January, none of us expected to get a glimpse of it so soon. With that, the internet went wild for the early image, though now it appears not everyone w💃as thrilled with what they saw...

Based on Homer's epic poem of the same name, The Odyssey will follow Damon's Odysseus as he sets off on a 10-year journey from Troy, in the hope of reuniting with his wife Penelope and their son Telemachus. Along the way, though, he encounters all sorts of otherworldly threats including a cyclops and♚ a sea monster.

"The Iliad literally describes Odysseus wearing a kino leather helmet adorned with boar tusks, but Hollywood can never resist the siren song of the generic ancient broom helmet. This helmet is like coca༒ine to costume designers," .

Another took to X to echo the criticisms, : "The Odyssey is set during the age of [heroes] (a๊ka the Mycenaean period) some time around 1200 BC and so the helmets would have been of the boar tusk style, not the corinthian style. The corinthian helmet didn't come into use until the Archaic period, around 700 BC."

Others made clear they weren't bothered either way,ꦏ however, with : "I really couldn't care less that the helmet 🃏Matt Damon wears in the Odyssey movie is 'historically inaccurate.' News flash: it’s a story! The whole thing never happened!"

As with Nolan, historians recently called out Ridley Scott for the artistic licenses he took with Gladiator 2. "It always amuses me when a critic says to me, 'This didn't happen in Jerusalem.' I say, 'Were you there? That’s the fucking answer'," the filmmaker candidly told Total Film 🐽back in🦩 November 2023.

The Odyssey releases on July 17, 2026. Benny Safdie, Himesh Patel, Elliot Pag🔯e, Will Yun Lee, Lupita Nyong'o, Jon Bernthal, Mia Goth, Samantha Morton, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Charlize The♋ron, and Tom Holland are all lined up to star alongside Damon.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> The first look at꧋ Chriℱstopher Nolan's next film, The Odyssey, is here.

In the picture, which you can see above, Matt Damon is seen in costume as Odysseus. He's wearing a cape, gauntlets, and an impressive plumed helmet, looking over one shoulder. Basically,🐼 he looks ready for battle – or to be lost at sea for years and years, anyway.

This is Nolan's first film since Oppenheimer, which won multiple Oscars, 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:including Best Picture, last year.

The star-studded cast also features Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Jon Bernthal, Mia Goth,♒ Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Elliot Page, Lupita Nyong'o, Samantha Morton, Will Yun Lee, Himesh Patel, Benny Safdie, and more. At the moment, it's unclear whoꦯ is playing who, aside from Damon playing the title character. We can also guess that Holland will be playing Odysseus's son, Telemachus, though that's purely a guess for now.

The Odyssey, of course, is Homer's epic poem that follows the events of The Iliad (which depicts the Trojan War). In the story, Odysseus makes his long journey home from Troy across an arduous decade, attempting to reunite with his wife Penelope and son Telemachus. His t﷽ravels are fraught with peril, though, including encounters with a cyclops, a sea monster, and siren song.

The film൲ will be shot with new IMAX technology and filmi๊ng will commence on the Island of Favignana, with filming also taking place in Sicily – both are locations from the poem.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Drama-movies ]]> The journey of an Oscar-nominated film is a long one. Often premiering at film festivals, its voyage starts almost a year before the actual ceremony and months before the lengthy awards season kicks off. But it is one that Walter Salles, the director of Best Picture nominee I'm♔ Still Here, is familiar with – at least in theory.

"I've lived it with Motorcycle Diaries and Central Station, so twice before, and it was, I have to confess, much simpler," he tells us when we catch up on the week of the 2024 BAFTAs. "I did a week here, a week there, and then things just happened and the word 'campaign' was never mentioned. T൲here was no such thing as a campaign. Now, everybody ask💧s, 'How's the campaign going?'"

Of course, for Salles, this process has been even longer than most, beginning technically way back in his childhood in the '60s. At the time, he li💝ved in Brazil and spent evenings and weekends⭕ with the real family that inspired this heartbreaking and powerful biographical drama.

The film tells the story of the Paiva family, whose f🐎ather disappeared during Brazil's military dictatorship. Rubens Paiva, a former congressman, was arrested in 1970 and never seen again after he was tortured and killed. Charting 44 years, it follows Rubens' wife Eunice Paiva's fight to find out the truth of what happened to her husband and expose censorship around his murder.

It is based on Eunice and Rubens' son Marcelo Rubens Paiva's 2015 memoir of the same name, and it was incredibly important for Salles to keep him and the entire family closely involved in the making of the film. "He was not only reconstructing the memory of his fami♉ly during three decadesꦍ, he was also reconstructing part of Brazil in hidden memory during that past," the director explains. "So we asked him to keep close to the development, as much as he could."

Salles' approach was meticulous, working on t❀he♒ movie for much of the 12 years since his previous feature film, 2012's On the Road. In this time he conducted extensive research and interviews, including with the rest of the Paiva family. "We stayed very close with his four sisters as well, because [Marcelo] was 11 when the story starts, and therefore his rendering of it is beautifully impressionistic," he explains. "It's from the eyes of an 11-year-old and so it was very important to hear also what his older sisters felt at that specific time."

Despite their involvement, it's not the children who are the heart of Salles' rendering but Eunice, Rubens' wife, who holds her family together during the unthinkable tragedy. She's played magnificently by Brazilian actor Fernanda Torres, who is a frontrunner in the Oscars' Best Actress race♏, and Salles says seeing the real Eunice Paiva brought to life by the star was very moving.

"The real Eunice that I go🥂t to meet was a woman of an extraordinary inner strength, but at the same time so restrained," Salles says. "And a woman that didn't want to become well known at the beginning of the story, she's a mother of five, and then somehow destiny makes her face something that she completely didn't expect to and this is when she rose to become who she ended up becoming."

Salles says Eunice wanted to rise above her family's tragedy in a non-melodramatic way. "She started to articulate forms of resistance that are completely unique, original, and yet brilliant, and ended up eroding that authoritaria꧟n regime in its own manner," he recalls of her approach.

There's a particular♎ moment in the film that shows Eunice's refusal to cower in the face of tragedy. She's being interviewed by a newspaper who wants to take her family's photo. They all pose, smiling for the camera, when the journalist sug🌜gests they look a bit more somber. "No, we'll smile," she tells him. It's based on a very famous photo of the real family, and Salles says it was incredibly important to him to include details like this in his adaptation.

"We were all in awe of the fiber of that woman who,🍌 faced with what the journalists and, ultimately the government, wanted her to represent – that is, a broken family – refuses that and actually offers the opposite, which is the collective smile of that family."

Torres understood this side of Paiva completely. "Fernanda, with her emotional intelligence, she's so💖 bright but also she's so sensitive that she understood that less was more with that character."

He𓂃 adds: "There was a kind of a transmutation in this to the point where I have a difficulty now to dissociate Fernanda Torres and Eunice Paiva. For me, they are somehow the blend of two very potent women who end up fighting for the same principles. It's very beautiful to see that."

Widespread acclaim

It's a film that's been embraced all over the world, with Salles open about how moving it has been to hear from audiences about their personal connection to the story. "The most beautiful gift that we sometimes get from the viewers is when somebody comes to you and says, 'Oh, I didn't have the impression I saꦿw a film,♕ I had the impression that I lived with that family for the length of the film,'" he smiles.

"Ultima🌃tely, this kind of [response] brings me back to my adolescence, when I was in the house at the heart of the film due to the personal connection that I have with the family. I felt invited to be🐽 part of that family and somehow I tried to, in doing the film, extend an invitation for everyone to be part of that family."

It's not just audiences either, as some of Salles' peers have become open champions of the drama too. Gravity director Alfonso Cuarón named it as one of his favorite films of 2024, and Salles says Paris, Texas director Wim Wende🃏rs drove two hours in the snow to introduce the film in Germany.

"Filmmakers such as Alfonso Cuarón or Wim Wenders, or Guillermo del Toro, two days ago, Alejandro Iñárritu, wonderful filmmaker and artist from Italy Valeria Golino, Sean Penn, Alexande🌟r Payne, all these guys, they have given us wings because ultimately, we are a small independent film from Brazil."

Fܫor Salles, these gestures of support have helped the film be seen widely, and also buoyed him along in the lengthy process of launching I'm Still Here – and the director is particularly poetic about the journey it's been. "I think that launching a film has a lot to do with entering an ocean. You enter the ocean, but you're not absolutely sure where the currents are going to lead♊ you," he smiles.

"It's a story th🥂at we couldn't have told some time ago due to censorship and now we can. So how beautiful is that – to be able to tell a story that is so particularly from that one specific place, that has a very Brazilian sensibility to it, and yet it can echo in different parts of the world. That's definitely why we do cinema."
