Despite Leon having been heavily rumored to be in Resident Evil 9 to some degree, he was completely absent from the game's reveal trailer. Instead, the trailer introduces FBI agent Grace Ashcroft, daughter of Resident Evil Outbreak hero Alyssa Ashcroft, who Nakanishi has said is "the new ཧmain character."

Naturally, that has done very little ⭕to quell the chorus of Resi fans insistent that the next installment will let them play as their f🍨avorite Raccoon City copper, their optimism largely buoyed by from noted leaker Dusk Golem claiming there are at least two playable characters in the game and that Leon is in fact "the main character."

Still, in Capcom's new on Resident Evil Req🐷uiem, Nakanishi once again strongly suggests Leon isn't in the game, going as far as to call the bonafide horror icon a bad fit for the genre.

"We always thought about making Leon the protagonist, but making a horror♕ game based around him is difficult," Nakanishi says. "He wouldn't jump at something like a bucket falling. No one wants to see Leon scared by every little thing. So he's actually quite a bad match for horror."

This is bait. I can see it in Nakanishi's eyes. Resident Evil Requiem is launching a month before the series' 30th anniversary; what better way to pay homage to its roots than to bring back the original protagonist? And the focus on the RPD? Get outta he💝re.

I don't doubt that Grace will play a significant role in the story, and she very well could be the main protagonist,🦂 but I'm more convinced than ever that Leon's coming back.

In fact, now that I'm thoroughly overthinking this, I'll be surprised if he doesn't come back as a playable character, purely because Capcom is doing so much to conceal and now seemingly tease his appearance. ♏It'd be pretty anticlimactic for all of these sheꦡnanigans to culminate in a non-playable appearance.

For what it's worth, I checked in on Dusk Golem after watching this new video and , "I'm 100% Leon is the protagonist still." And to be fair, Nakanishi doesn't explicitly say Leon won't be in the game, or even that he won't be the main character! It wouldnꦦ't be terribly unusual for a game creator to outright lie in service of a good surprise reveal, but it seems Nakanishi wants to maintain his good name if and when Leon is revealed.

We'll find out when Resident Evil Requiem launches on February 27 for PS5, Xbox Series🍌 X, and PC. Or, possibly before that, because leaks and all.

Anyway, developer Fumi Games revealed a new Mouse: P.I. For Hire boss in a brief Twitter clip today, and in so revealed Cavꦛill's yoked antagonist as the main inspiration.

"Meet Reginald Shingler, just one of the bosses you'll meet in MOUSE: P.I. For Hire," reads the tweet. "Thanks for the inspi𒊎ration, Henry Cavill."

The clip shows Reginald doing a similar arm shuffle to August Walke﷽r in the 2018 action film Mission: Impossible Fallout, not to mention sporting a simil♔ar hairstyle and bulging biceps.

If it wasn't instantly recognizable visually, you'll probably remember Mouse: P.I. For Hire for going viral on TikTok and els♓ewhere in 2023,ܫ after its lead programmer started posting online.

Although Mouse: P.I. For Hire has nothing to do with the Mickey Mouse intellectual property, much of its more recent marketing has coincided with the historic transfer of the IP to public domain, almost certainly helping to bolster Mouse: P.I. You could buy a static Relic, a yellow-type Grand Luminous Scene, with this effect from a new merchant unlocked by defeating the previous Everdark boss, and people quickly noticed just how powerful it is.

The wording is, per FromSoftware custom, a little wonky. But have worked out that this Relic buffs your damage by 5% each ti🍒me you beat a gaol boss. There's a difficulty gradient to these bosses, but most of them are pretty easy – some almost laughably so – and even the harder ones are nothing compared to the big Nightl🔴ords.

There's no duration on this buff; each boss you kill – rather, each encounter you clear, because multi-꧒boss gaols don't award multiple stacks at once – provides a permanent, always-active damage buff, and there doesn't seem to be an upper limit. Not only that, the buff appears to get better multiplicatively, with players reporting a buff greater than 30% with six gaol clears.

You can only kill so many gaol bosses in a run of Nightreign, limited not just by time but also how many gaol keys you can find, but it's not that hard to clear at least 🔥four. Gaols provide lump sums of Runes, too, making them worthwhile anyhow.

You can't equip multiple Relics w♛ith this effect to double or triple the boost, but you can enhanꦍce it indirectly to take your damage straight to the moon.

For example, another Relic effect gives you a Stonesword Key at the start of a run, guaranteeing an easy Gaol clear. Everyone in your team can potentially br💯ing a Stonesword Key in with them, meaning you have three Gaols available without even hunting for keys – most commonly sourced from chests in cathedrals or atop forts.

Because this relic is a permanent♋, multiplicative damage modifier, it stacks incredibly well with other effects and genꩵeral character investment. The stronger you are, the stronger it is.

It's so powerful, in fact, that I'm convinced FromSoftware𒆙 handed it out specifically to counterbalance the difficulty bump from the Everdark fights🦄, perhaps learning from the difficulty blowback at the game's launch. Most other damage boosts are either weaker or more specific than this, so it's rapidly become a go-to staple among experienced players.

If you don't have this relic and you missed the previous Everdark boss, you should be able to unlock it just fine by beating the🐷 latest Everdark boss – which, again, ought to be easier than it was last week since many players are running around with damage aplenty.

Ironeye is Elden Ring Nightreign's most useful character, but their anti-soulslike style bores me to tears.

Back in December 2024,🤪 Epic said on Twitter that it "filed a lawsuit against a player who cheated in our tournaments. This player used cheating software and hardware and tried to avoid getting caught by using multiple accounts."

Today, the company says "the Judge ruled in our favor after the cheater ignored our lawsuit. The player is required to pay $175,000 and we’ll donate what we collect to charity. They are also 🦹banned from playing Fortnite forever."

While Epic did not provide any more details about the legal action on social media, has a bit🦩 more info from the lawsuit itself. Sebastian Araujo is named as the cheater, with Epic alleging that the player had participated in 839 tournaments over the course of four months, winning "at least $6,850" in cash prizes.

"While the Court notes the amount sought by Plaintiff exceedingly surpasses Defendant's alleged actual gain, $6,850," court documents say, "Defendant took significant measures to conceal the true scope of his cheating activities by creating multiple fake accounts and employing a hardware spoofer to circumvent d🐟etections."

Some of the game's original developers, even those who left the studio years before this announcement, are s🧸haring their stories in the wake of the news.

That includes Hypixel founder Simon Collins-Laflamme, who posted a of some of his experiences early in Hytale's development. When the studio was still operating independently, Collins-Laflamme says he "was burning maybe 350k to 4ꦿ00k a month on Hytale development - somewhat sustainable - but that was before Hypixel Skyblock and the server was on a decline so I needed funding soon to keep going at such pace."

Collins-Laflamme posits that "maybe that sense of limited funds urgency was a good thing looking back on it," but the stress of that financial pressure was certainly substan🌸tial. Riot began gradually investing in the studio in 2018, and fully acquired it in 2020. Collins-Laflamme himself left the studio in 2019.

"I think the p🧔ressure of having the Riot Games label + mega viral trailer, bigger funding and higher expectations made us all doubt ourselves bℱack then," he says. "On a personal level, I couldn't live up to these new high expectations and was given an option to leave by Riot."

Despite that, Collins-Laflamme says he was confident in Riot's support. "Unknown public fact," he says, "I was offered WAY MOꦑRE money from a different company and walked out the moment of deal close (many people can attest to that) but decided to go with Riot in the end because I truly believed that they would give the team a better chance at success and more funding for the game."

Elsewhere in his post, Collins-Laflamme says Hytale seemed "maximum 2 years away" 🍌from release in 2019 before its scope started dramatically expanding, with other former devs criticizing "unrealistic ambitions" from higher-ups. Speaking on the producers Hypixel hired after the acquisition, he largely echoes comments from another former developer who said the studio's problems ꧑"were all internal" and shouldn't be laid at Riot's feet.

That's a question that Atlus seems no closer to answering, as Persona 5: The Phantom X is 🦩finally available worldwide, and it's൲ already hit the highest concurrent player peak on Steam out of all the P5 releases on there.

Since the original Persona 5, we've also had its Royal re-release, the Dancing in Starlight rhythm game spinoff, its Strikers action RPG, Tactica strategy RPG, and now, the free-to-play Phantom X is availab🃏le in way more territories than before.

Looking at its concurrent player count records (), the Black Wings Game Studio-developed spinoff of Atlus' favorite child managed to hit a peak of 41,622 within 12 hours of its launch. Given that we're currently midday on a weekday, I suspect that could well r🃏ise further in the days to come.

It's worth noting that not all of those aforementioned P5 games are actually available on St✨eam, but it's still outdone the ones on there, including the best version of the main game, Persona 5 Royal, which launched to back in 2022.

Admittedly, it did have a bit of a disadvantage in the sense that its PC release came three years after its initial launch on consoles (two years outside of Japan), but even so, it's still being beaten by a free-to-play take that's infused with gacha elements. That said, the fact that The Phantom X is free is a gigantic factor hanging over this w🌱hole player count thing.

As for Persona 5 Tactica, well, that one didn't have a particularly strong start on Steam. With a concurrent players, it was never going to be incredible competition, but even so. wasn't much s𒊎tronger at 8,730.

For what it's worth, The Phantom X is close to reaching the highest concurrent player count of any Persona game on Steaܫm, too – it's currently only beaten by Persona 3 Reload, which is barely hanging on w🍰ith its . There's definitely still room for the new spinoff to overtake it – we'll just have to watch this space.

currently 💙has 160,000 cat sitters, more than absolute heavy hitters like GTA 5 and Apex Legends, but Irox Games CEO Marcel Zurawka told that the app is "not even paying a developer for us... If you just look at the numbers, it's actually losing us ♌money in the end."

Bongo Cat is a free-to-pla🍌y game that only makes money from inexpensive microtransactions that let people lay down a couple quid for cosmetics, which is nice. Thing is, according to Zurawka, Bongo Cat's only drummed up $12,650 in its first three and a half months of release - definitely not enough money to cover one developer's yearly salary.

Though Zurawka doesn't actually care whether or not Bongo Cat itself makes tons of money. It was made in a couple of weeks and, more importantly, it exists more as an "insane marketing tool" for the devs' next game: Oku, a watercolor adventure with the aesthetics of Okami but the flowy mꩵovement of Flower.

Essentially, Bongo Ca🧜t's virality was supposed to push the team's next big, proper project into the spotlight, and it's sort of working. If you follow and wishlist , you'll get a free hat in Bongo Cat.

"It's an insane marketing🐽 tool," Zurawka continued. "We are now converting people to the next game from us."

Even if Rematch maintains a lot of the physicality that shaped Sloclap's previous games, it's still a dramatic shift in genre. For Tarno, however, that's as it should be – "chasing𒉰 the safe bets is a death sentence," he says. "I think gamers are on the lookout for new, original experiences."

Referencing genre juggernauts like FIFA and Roꦜcket League, he points out that "these games are different giants in all these fields, and they do what they do super well. And so I think we just want to do something different."

A new area called the Spy Lair has been added, which is where players all spawn at the🅠 beginning of each day. It also has a machine where Wizard Boy can change his upgrades, but there will be even more "cool stuff down the line" coming to the area. Finally, the update also includes a new HUD and UI changes, 𝐆as well as changes to visual effects on spells, potions, and explosions, plus bug fixes.

This is only "about half" of what Szymanski and his brother Evan have been working on, according to the update notes, as all of the changes "influence how we wanted to do the [upcoming Spider Dungeon]'s design". There might be "another several months" before the Spider Dungeon is finished, but there's certainly enough here for Wizard Boy enthusiasts to🌞 check out.

In the end, I don't think it was a very go𝓡od comparison, but that's another article. Thankfully, Adler had another reference up his sleeve: "the newer Deus Ex games." The gameplay in Human Revolution and Mankind Divided is some that Adler says he "really loves." It's a timely🐠 reference, given that the iconic immersive sim series is in the midst of its 25th anniversary celebrations, but since its future is still in some degree of doubt, The Outer Worlds 2 might be your best chance to experience Deus Ex for a while.

I have to say, a lot of what Adler is saying is making me increasingly excited for The Outer Worlds 2. There seems to be a real focus on sandboxy multiplayer, and an attempt to make you really dial into your own personal playstyle that🌃 I'm looking forward to despite having not entir🤪ely gotten on with the first game.

Still, Dying Light 2 was more of a stumble than a fall, and with Dying Light: The Beast, Smektalaꦰ says Techland wants to find a middle ground between its two previous games. "We want to deliver both. We want to deliver the AAA quality, but at the same time, we want to deliver proof that our mojo is not gone, that our mojo is not there, and we know what makes Dying Light, Dying Light. A🌠nd if players say 'wow, this feels like Dying Light 1, and it looks so amazing, it's such a polished game', then I think we'll be very, very happy."

Elsewhere in the interview, he notes that there are "areas of perfection" in Dying Light that fans would be devastated if The Beast undermined. <![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Games News ]]> Genshin Impact update 5.7 rolled out a new permanent endgame mode called Stygian Onslaught today, finally answering the community's requests for a hardcore combat activity other than Spiral Abyss after nearly five years. But as expected, the monkey's paw curls: this thing is so hard that only accounts with substa🧜ntial character investment can totally clear it.

Stygian Onslaught is essentially a boss rush mode where you use three teams of four units, with no overlap between them, to fight soupe♐d-up versions of bosses. For the first Stygian rotation, those bosses are the Hydro Tulpa🍎, Lava Dragon Statue, and Secret Source Automaton. The mode doubles as a special, secondary domain for every type of artifact, dishing out extra artifacts at set Resin intervals, so it's definitely worth doing.

There are six tiers of difficulty to the activity, with each ti꧟er increasing the stats of the bosses. Normal, Advancing, Hard, Menacing, and Fearless difficulty follow a pretty standard difficulty curve, with Fearless feeling comparable to, and maybe slightly harder than, the hardest floors of the Spiral Abyss.

It's the sixth tier, Dire, which is accessed after beating Fearless and unlocking the "Perilous Challenge" option, that's knocked players flat. Dire massively increases boss HP, almost exponentially so, making it considerably more difficult to kill them within the 120-second timer, to say nothing of the 180-second total timer for the true pinnacle challenge.

Having played since launch, I have a pretty well-invested Genshin Impact account, and I'm still struggling to clear this thing on Dire. Thanks to five years of semi-regular battle passes and Welkin passes, I have almost every ch𓆉aracter, about two dozen five-star weapons, and a couple of Constellations on some five-star characters, all with good artifact builds (minus Skirk, who I'm still building after her recent debut). 𓆏I breezed right through Fearless, but Dire presents a much steeper DPS check. It isn't completely out of my reach, but assuming it is doable, it will take some legitimate practice and optimization.

Loads of other players have had a similar experience. Even a Fearless clear is proving difficult for some players – in part bec🍒ause these bosses demand specific elemental counters, so if you don't have strong characters of those elements you're basically out of luck. It also doesn't help that you start Stygian Onslaught encounters with zero energy for characters' Elemental Bursts, adding a warm-up stage to fights and favoring energy-agnostic characters like Mavuika and Skirk.

In the Genshin Im♓pact Twitch category, I've been watchin🍨g streamer and reputable theorycrafter struggle and ultimately fail to get a single Dire boss kill even with good long-term account investment.

There is hope, though. that you can just barely clear Dire mode without wildly egregious spending – all you need are perfect meta teams with top DPS characters, signature five-star weapons, max Constellations on four-star sꦐupports, and – screw it – a full team of five-stars to counter the Secret Source Automaton.

I'm sure that sounds egregious to some players – and those players absolutely have a point – but compared to the Dire clea😼r I saw , who has spent upwards of $100,000 maxing out every character and weapon, that's not unreasonable. Regular oil baron a blazing fast Dire clear featuring teams worth more than my car.

At the same time, I've seen plenty of players say they're struggling even with teams worth more than my car, which goes to show how technically demanding this mode can be. And even then, it's recent character🀅s, especially those boosted by the restrictions of the mode, that clear more easily.

The good news is that you only need to beat Fearless to obtain all the main rewards from Stygian Onslaught. Heck, you can get all 450 Primogems just by beating Hard, and with help from matchmaking, other players can give you a boost. Beating Menacing at all and beating Fearless ♔in single-player just nets you two Dust of Enlightenment used for Genshin's new artifact reroll system, which is nice.

Clearing Dire unlocks limi🎃ted-time weapon cosmetics, while beating the challenge within 180 seconds adds a special shiny effect to them. Each Stygian Onslaught lasts for a whole six-week patch, so you can enjoy these cosmetics until 5.8 before you have to unlock them again by cleari💯ng the next rotation.

"📖Yeah, nah, I've been playing for🐭 5 years without weapon skins," one fatigued player put it. "I'll be find without them now. I'm beat."

Stygian Onslaught gives hardcore players and spendthrift whales a place to measure their characters, the highest tiers are only gatekeeping limited-time cosmetics, and it dishes out a few extra artifacts every patch. Personally, I'm reasonably pleased with it so ﷽far; it's meaningfully different to Spiral Abyss, and it's an actual coherent challenge unlike the garbage plate that is Imaginarium Theater, Genshin's previous stab at permanent combat content. It's not amazing, but it is something new to do that actually has bite.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Games News ]]> The launch of Switch 2 has finally seen the arrival of GameCube games as part of the Nintendo Switch Online service, and speedrunners of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker might just be🎶 feasting better than any of us. While this emulated version is nearly identical to the GameCube original, there are two tiny changes that have busted the speedrunning scene wide open.

As explained in a new video from speedrunner Linkus7, Wind Waker has a glitch that lets you reach out-of-bounds portions of the g𒁃ame's dungeons. The out-of-bounds areas don't actually load any collision data, so you'll just fall endlessly - unless you land on a chest,ꦬ which for some reason does remain loaded as a solid, but invisible object.

This glitch is present in the original game and has been known about for years, but there's never been any real way to make use of it, because there's no way to force the res🌳t of the level to load in after you've landed on the chest. Playing the Song of Passing, which changes the🅷 time of day, should be able to force the stage to load, but instead, it simply crashes the game.

But on Switch 2, the devs have simply disabled that crash. You can now do the out-of-bounds glitch, land on the chest, play the✨ Song of Passing, and continue playing the level as normal. This is specifically helpful in the Earth Temple, which Linkus7 estimates can now be completed in about two minutes.

The other change is even more basic: it's the GameCube emulator's built-in controller remapping. Wind Waker spe🙈edrunning relies on a trick where you rapidly swim back and forth. Do it fast enough, and Link starts building up absurd levels of negative speed - so much that you can launch yourself away from the starting island without the aid o🙈f a boat.

But this trick is no joke, requiring you to "basically pause buffer the game, frame-perfectly, for about three [or] f♏our minutes," Linkus7 explains. There's another way to do the trick, though: simply "flick the analog stick 20 times per second." That, of course,✃ is "ridiculously hard and only a few people in the whole world can do it."

With the official GameCube emulator's built-in conꦑtroller remapping options, however, you can simply map one of the analog stick directions to a button, hold a direction, and rapidly tap the button to shimmy back and forth and easily build🧸 up that negative speed.

Linkus7 says this trick is now something "even you could do at home, trust me." And I can pretty much confirm that - it's still not easy to do if you're unpractised, but I did manage to knock out one brief super swim iꦓn just a few minutes of trying.꧒ For proper speedrunners, who can now perform the trick throughout the game, with trivial ease? It's a complete game-changer.

For now, the Wind Waker speedrunning community is split🌠ting runs into GameCube and Switch 2 categories in an effort to encourage players to compete on the new console, build new routes, and enjoy essentially free world records. Once the exact details of the Switch 2 routes of have been worked out, the ไcategories may be reintegrated.

The Switch 2 version of Wind Waker still isn't a perfect place to speedrun, as it's missing support for the GBA link through the Tingle Tuner, which was key to the old GameCube routes, and the fairly substan🧜tial input lag in Nintendo's GameCube emulator is likely to throw ಞoff some runners. But even with those caveats in mind, it looks like we're about to enter a whole new era of Wind Waker speedrunning.

Lastly, Jagex says ꦑit's looking at cosmetic-free worlds which would put everyone's fashion on an even playing field and tighten the game's visual identity. "Whi﷽le we don't have an exact launch window for this yet, we expect to release no later than August and run them until the end of our Experiment window," Jagex says.

Jagex very clearly isn't removing all of thes🌜e microtransactions entirely – presumably, as the developer says, because "it's no secret that MTX in RuneScape currently represents a major part of how we fund the game" – but instead seemingly reducing their impact on game integrity by making them less invasive, random, or expe🐻nsive.

"We will use this opportunity to approach MTX in a way👍 that is healthier for the game," the studio says. For g🌳ood measure, it adds: "We will not use this opportunity to be more aggressive in offering XP benefits outside the core game loop."

Associate design director Mod Ryan says the team "must add꧂ress the unhealthy relationship of microtransactions within our game design."

The initial response from RuneScape 3 players, judging from the comments and ratings on YouTube and Reddit, is a pretty positive one. Of course, if you'd been walking through a desert for years subsisting only ꦺon the tears of rattlesnakes, I'd imagine you would perk up at the promise of a bottle of water.

Trust is gained in drops and lost in buckets, so the months ahead will likely 💦determine if these microtransaction changes are enough to convince RuneScape players that the game is improving. But as a p𓃲lan, this is certainly miles ahead of where RuneScape has been for years.

Thཧey're also clearly from different parts of the solar system, showing your crew won't all be denizens of the same planet.

"I'm not saying we are taking something from, say, Persona 5, but the approach, the idea that characters are front and center of the story and how they evolve all through the story up until the end is a little bit similar," Mishulin says. The Mass Effect 5 director has already given it his seal of approval.

The crewmates you don't take by your side🦩 won't just chill on your customizable ship, though. They'll help out and complete other mission objectives, maybe even going in as secondary support teams, Mishulin says.

As well as the character-driven story, the way you build and play your character is inspir𝄹ed by Soulslikes. "The RPG system is very open, allowing you to build whatever character you like," Mishulin explains. "It's part of our vision of the game to al♏low you to experiment and find things you like."

The aim is to make you consider which weaponജs work with your build and abilities so that you'll figure out what works best for how you've designed your character. The choices you make will also be impactful. The game is set after the first season of the TV show and the first book.

"You will be seeing with your own eyes the repercussions✱ of Holden's actions, all the situations like The Canterbury, and how it affects people in the belt, people in the inner planets," Mishulin says. "You will be having your own adventure with your own goals, choices, consequences in the same universe [with] all the major events unfolding in this universe alongside your story."

Now, there's a whole solar system with lots of ac💧tion in it, but I am concerned with just how impactful our choices will really feel given the game will assumedly have to eventually go in the same direction as the show and books. We'll 𝔉have to wait for a future trailer or demo to find out more.

We'll just have to wait and see if the company appears in any more non-Nintendo game credits going forward.

One thing is for sure, though – this certainly doesn't mean that we have a Switch 2 ve🍌rsion of Death Stranding 2 inbound, although it'd definitely be impressive to see the game run on Nintendo's new console.
