OK, I'm officially sold on Silent Hill f. Not that there was ever a universe where I wouldn't be playing it day one, but I refuse to get too excited about anything until I see some gameplay, and with Konami dropping the first Silent Hill f gameplay trailer during today's PlayStation State of Play, not to mention nailing down a September 25 release date, we might as well ꧅just kick off the Halloween season three months ahead of schedule.

The trailer starts with a familiar📖 scene as we see protagonist Shimizu Hinako wander through a fog-covered town from 1960s Japan encountering utterly hideous creatures. But this time around, we actually get to see combat for the first time, with Hinako dodging, blocking, and clubbing monsters to death with a furor that seems to lend itself to a more intense combat system.

And indeed, in the PlayStation Blog accompanying the release date announcement, producer Motoi Okamoto said "the combat will have a heavier focus on melee and be more action-🦂oriented compared to last year's Silent Hill 2."

Silent Hill f also continues to impress/disturb me with its creature design. The series is known for producing some of the most nigh🍸tmare inducing baddies ever, but still it se🤡ems they've stepped it up a notch here. I mean, whatever Hinako's friend turned into at the end of the trailer... that thing just about made my stomach turn. And I'm here for it.

Here are the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best horror games to play right here and now.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> I knew the first indie demo I played at Digital Dragons 2025 was bound to be a hit. Deep Sleep: Labyrinth of the Forsaken already had my name all over it when I picked up and scanned a nearby flyer. Survival horror, point and click puzzles, turn based combat, and the ability to conjure weapons? I practically tackled the computer. When later that evening, I was ꧂glad I'd seized my chance.

Scriptwelder's intricate point-and-click adventure where dreams become nightmares is both familiar and novel. Sure, the DNA of the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best Resident Evil games is baked into its isometric, 2D pixelated world, but instead of gunning m✅y way through a zombie-infested mansion♏, Deep Sleep had me dreaming myself into subconscious terrors – and loving every second.

Dare to dream a little bigger, darling

Deep Sleep: Labyrinth of the Forsaken screenshot of Amy on a bullet train traveling by subway

The first thing I see when I load into a fresh save file is a typewriter. That's not the only thing on the screen – the scene is that of protagonist Amy's bedroom, filled with curious objects and gadgets just waiting for a closer look. I know from reading the synopsis that Amy is trying 𒀰to make contact with her presumed dead brother, and it's only through dreaming t🍒hat she can do so.

But even with that intriguing backstory in mind, I can't help what my eyeballs latch onto. The typewriter is a familiar touchstone, linking Deep Sleep: Labyrinth of the Forsaken to some of the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best survival horror games that came before it꧋, and I simply must check it out.

I take a moment to admire the retro 🐻art style, noting the 2D framing of the scene as Amy gets up from her bed. I examine the electrode hood she's discarded on the bed – my gateway to nightmare puzzle worlds, no doubt – before finally clicking on the typewriter with feverish glee. What do you know? I need an ink ribbon to use it. This little nod to the titans o🐼f its genre (namely, the one and only Resident Evil) immediately charms me, clearly signposting Deep Sleep's mission as a survival horror game with a neat twist or two up its sleeve.

Once I've examined just about everything in the cramped space, I click on the electrodes again. It's time to experien🐻ce what makes Deep Sleeꦅp different from its predecessors: the fact that most of its action takes place in dreamspace.

Deep Sleep: Labyrinth of the Forsaken screenshot of Amy speaking to a man in a suit in a dining room in one of her dreams

This next part feels like something out of Inception, or maybe even using the animus in the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best Assassin's Creed games. Amy is a lucid dreamer, meaning I now get to choose what it ✱is she dreams about now that she's fallen fast asleep. I don't recall the name of the first dungeon I pick, but it looks an awful lot like a hotel. Or, in a way, the telltale winding halls and locked doors that make up Resident Evils Spencer Mansion.

But I digress. Deep Sleep: Labyrinth of the Forsaken doesn't play like a Resident Evil game, necessari꧋ly, despite how it might resemble one. This is no fixed camera angle endeavor, but a slightly isometric point-and-click adventure. I check my inventory quic𝔉kly, and am disappointed to find a human bone rather than a gun as my main offensive tool. A quick rummage through the room I've loaded into, however, and I come out with a wrench – score one for me. Immediately, I set off to find something to batter with it.

Curiouser and curiouser

Deep Sleep: Labyrinth of the Forsaken screenshot of Amy navigating a dark hallway in a derelict house using her flashlight

Deep Sleep: Labyrinth of the Forsaken♊ doesn't play like a Resident Evil game, necessarily, despite how it might resembleꦡ one.

Exiting through a pair of double doors, I find myself on the upstairs landing of the hotel foyer. Stairs lead down to the dimly lit lobby, and in the darkness, I see something shambling about.

I flick on my equipped flash🍃light with a tap of the left trigger, despite on-screen warnings of some enemies being particularly photosensitive. I'm not trying to avoid a battle here, after all – I want to see what Deep Sleep's turn-based combat is all about.

When I approach the creatu🍰re, I hope I'm the one who landed the first hit. The UI doesn't make that part all too clear, but as a musical sting chimes menacingly and the edges of the screen start to blur and shift in streaks of garish red, I can only assume I've triggered a combat encounter. Much as in Look Outside, my favorite survival horror indie of the year so far, combat in Deep Sleep requires a more tactical ap📖proach.

I'm presented with my inventory, and must select a weapon with which to attack the enemy.𒅌 I go for the wrench first off, sure that a swift bonk over the head will do the job – but alas, it does only two HP damage and shatters in my hand. Meanwhile, my human bone fragment does the job beautifully, and three turns later, the creature falls down dead.

It's exciting to see new games reworking well-worn genres to bring out fresh, un🐻expected flavours.

Still reeling from the encounter,💧 and with a brand new bone looted from my opponent's corpse in hand (ic😼k, I know), I pick through the rest of the lobby in search of something stronger. Perhaps, even, something with bullets.

But, again, Deep Sleep is not as combat-focused as many other survival horror games I've played. It's a puzzler, first and foremost, with seemingly infrequent run-ins with enemies not only further spread apart, but a lot more optional. As I push open a door and hold my breath, expecting 𝓰a room full of enemies, I'm surprised to find the hotel concierge instead.

He berates me for being late to this, my first day at a new job – a typica⛎l dream anxiety for many of us, I think to myself – and orders me to deliver luggage to five separate rooms. But which𒉰 bags go to which room, I ask, eyeing the stack of suitcases and nearby trollies suspiciously? The concierge waves me off with a huff. Apparently, working that part out is up to me.

Sadly, my demo time is cut short by the presence of another eager player, but what little I've seen of Deep Sleep: Labyrinth of the Forsaken has whetted my appetite for plenty more. It might sound simple enough, but it's exciting to see 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:new games reworki෴ng well-worn genres to bring out fresh, unexpected flavours.

Deep Sleep is shaping up to be a brand new, non-linear type of survival horror game that uses dungeons, dream theory, and "elements of randomized design" to its advantage, and it's already shooting past many other 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:upcoming horror games on my list of 2025's most wanted.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> In my opinion there's no game director with a resume as impressive as Hideki Kamiya. 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, and Bayonetta spawned legendary series' while Okami and The Wonderful 101 are both incredible one-offs. The one thing linking them all is the fact that he's never directed any of the sequels to his games until the upcoming Okami 2. But the one sequel Kamiya took the director's chair on was actually his first, 1998's 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Resident Evil 2. And while Kamiya has been very vocal about wanting to direct the likes of a 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Devil May Cry remake or Viewtiful Joe 3 now that he's back working with Capcom, he's not all that keen on൲ retu🉐rning to the publisher's marquee franchise.

In an interview with MinnMax's Ben Hanson titled "" Kamiya was asked if he ever wanted to direct a new Resident Evil game, to which the director simply responded, "nah." He didn't explain why he felt this way, but ๊just prior to that question, he called Resident Evil ꦕ2 the game he had the hardest time with as a director (naturally, since it was his first time).

Hanson followed up by asking about any interest in other Capcom titles. Naturally, Viewtiful Joe 3 is a game Kamiya has already expressed interest in, so the host asked what he would do with the game, to which Kamiya responded, "I've already got the idea in my head. So you'll fin🍌d out if I ever get to make it." And despite turning down Resident Evil, he was asked about Capcom's other sur🍷vival horror series, Dino Crisis, to which Kamiya responded, "I'd love to give it a shot."

Hanson also asked Kamiya some other important questions like "would your mom think I'm cool," "you're on Twitter a lot, has Elon Musk ever slid into your DMs and offered to impregnate you," and a question about Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai's youtube channel (to which Kamiya responded to by saying that his own channel 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:was more interesting🅠). Perhaps more relevantly, he asked if Kamiya is sticking to his original vision for Okami 2, to which he responded, "In a sense, yes. But I actually can't remember a lot of the stuff I thought about 20 years ago. So I'll have to remember what that is, and then inject current ideas into it."

New Mario Kart World footage seems to confirm a new way to race that was originally planned for Double Dash 22 years ago.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill f's main thing is that it sticks out within the wider Silent Hill series, due to its 1960s Japan setting. The game's director has said in the past that they wanted to make something that is a 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:"blend of new and nostalgic" when it comes to elements of the game, and it definitely nails t꧂he former from what we'v💞e seen so far.

Outside of the setting making it stick out, it's also one of the only games in the series to not take place in Silent Hill itsel🍒f (from what we know anyway, I'm sure there's a swerve in there). And now the game's publisher, Konami, is using this fact as a way to draw in potential new fans. On the official account, Konami posted (via machine translation), "This is a completely new work independent of the series. Even those who have never played the 'Silent Hill' series can enjoy this game."

Granted – even though I know why Konami is doing this – that's pretty much the case for the majority of Silent Hill games (outside of the first game and third). While there are details to be found in each game that hint at the events of others, the majority of stories in the series are self-contained. You're really not missing too much in Silent Hill 2 if you haven't played the original Silent Hill.

But it's nice to know that Konami is positioning the new game as a starting point to get people into one of its best series, even if they're going to have to deal with "faces r♚ipped apart," "a ch𝄹aracter burned alive inside a cage," "entrails and sinew displayed on serving platters," and all of that heartwarming stuff.

Nintendo files new trademarks for 2 Metroid classics and a beloved 2007 DS game, sparking hopes of remakes: "Never say never."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> It's easy to take Resident Evil 2 for granted now, but back in 1998 there had only been a single Resident Evil game before it. Resident Evil 2 was🦩 the moment Capcom solidified the series as a horror icon. Not to mention the 🌊leap from the Spencer Mansion to Raccoon City's streets and police station was a technical marvel at the time. It still holds up all these years later for sure, but it's also worth remembering how impressive the sequel was for i๊ts time.

So imagine what it was like taking all the ambition packed into 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Resident Evil 2, which shined on PS1 at the time, and squeezing it down for its Nintendo 64 port. That's exactly what US developer Angel Studios were tasked with doing, against the odds. What resulted was one of the mos🎐t ambitious and impressive conversions ever, meaning this version definitely deserves to be remembered as an important moment for the series. Retro Gamer talks with project director Chris Fodor about how Resident Evil 2 for the Nintendo 64 came together.

Chris Fodor: We had previously done Ken Grif♏fey Jr for the N64, which was the first game that Angel Studios ever released, so we had the technical skills and had learned a lot working on that project.

The team was given the option of making a play for porting Resident Evil 2 or working on Spider-Man 64. We looked at both options but felt our small studio wasn't ready to take on Spider-Man because it required a lot of gameplay and might suffer the same f꧟ate as Superman 64 – draw distance! A port felt right as that played to our technica🐻l skills with a proven game design. We actually went to Japan to talk to Capcom, who clearly didn't expect as much from the project as we delivered.

RG Did you raise any initial concerns with Capcom about the appropriateness of the port?

CF: We didn't raise any concerns. Thiꦚs is a classic case of being too foolish to know what isn't possible so you end up doing it anyway. There was a discussion of replacing the cutscenes with still frames aᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚnd audio. That was a fallback but it didn't sit right with anyone on the team. We were going to make it happen. Thank goodness for 64MB cartridges.

RG: But still, there were two CDs full of data and you had one relatively tiny cart…

CF: We did have the wind at our backs in one💦 respect. Many assets were duplicated across the two discs, so even though there was 1.2GB of data, a lot of the cutscenes were repeated. Something might flip to Leon and he'll say and do the same thing as he did on the other disc with Claire. This does not mean it was easy, as the PlayStation version could simply duplicate the video and make one cutscene. We identified the similarities and put one copy on the ROM triggered at the right time. This required pulling apart and identifying the overlap, and also required a ROM which could play a scene immediately in a different order. This would have not been possible without the incredible FMV work by Todd Meynink. I don't want to minimise the contributions of other team members. Everyone crushed it.

RG: What would you say was the most challenging aspect you had to overcome?

CF: You probably want to hear a single answer, but every couple of weeks came a new challenge. Code with comments in Japanese that didn't follow unwritten Western coding protocols. Understanding how the rendering system worked. Figuring out how much space to allocate to which area, be it sound, backgrounds, models, FMV. Time deadlines. Even internal Angel Studios issues. Obviously the FMV was the big challenge, but that meant it got attention from the start. The other issues just poppeꩲd up as the project went on. I recall having daily meetings and someone asked, "Should we be worried?" I said, "Yes, let's worry… OK, worry over, let's get to work."

RG: Ha, did that help to reassure them?

CF: It sounds a bit mean in ret💛rospe🍰ct, but I just meant let's focus on what's under our control.

RG: On the subject of external factors, did you experience any interference from Capcom, or Nintendo for that matter?

CF: Capcom didn't have much to say besides, "Let's get this done." Initially Capcom didn't expect much more than a perfunctory effort, diplomatically stating that we were not considered first-rate. Nintendo required the blood colour change option and is still pretty strict about how games appear and behave on its platforms, as everyone knows. Nintendo was actually helpful whe▨n we initially discussed a 32MB cartridge and we were told a 64MB cartridge wꦯas possible with save space on the cartridge. 32MB would have definitely meant a version with static cutscenes. Capcom took a risk authorising the bigger cart, and it worked out. I remember how heavy the final product felt.

RG: Your version actually adds content that was exclusive to the N64. Was this requested by Capcom, or added by yourselves?

CF: Requested by Capcom, who had complete creative control. I think the analogue controls came from us, but as far as things like the EX Files, that came entirely from Capcom. The Randomizer mode was uniq🌄ue and from Capcom as well. 🎃It's great to see that people valued that additional content. Some thought did go into it and I love that it differentiated our version.

RG: Looking back, do you have any regrets about taking on the job?

CF: Regrets? No, I'd do it a hundred times again. There's a liberty when you're younger and can tolerat🐻e a risk of failure without that affecting a family. It was a good chꦯoice. I always viewed it as a chance to prove our technical chops, and we did.

RG: OK, to put it another way, would you have attempted Resident Evil 3 if Capcom had asked?

CF: Resident Evil 3 didn't make financial sense as PlayStation 2 was just around the corner. Angel Studios did talk with Capcom about a little game that ended up being called Dino Crisis, but we didn't end up taking it. We produced some tech in that direction which became [coin-op game] Sa𒉰vage Quest.

RG: Thank you for your time, Chris.

CF: I lo𒐪ve telling 'war stories' and have immersed myself in games since I fir🥂st played the NES. The fact that people are still talking about this game 25 years later is truly priceless.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> For fans of the first Resident Evil, the game's 1997 Director's Cut was an eagerly anticipated release. This wasn't necessarily because of the core game – which added extra modes and a few new frissons to the survival horror classic – but because it came bundled with a playable demo of 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Resident Evil 2.

This preview finally lifted the veil on the sequel that Capcom had been teasing for more than a year, allowing players to finally experience the aftermath of the 'mansion incident'. In the demo you played new character Leon Kennedy, a rookie cop who arrives in Racoon City just as a living dead rave hits full꧅ swing. Whereas the original was a bit of a slow burn, the sequel dropped you𒁃 into the thick of it, on a city street surrounded by multiple zombies – who were hungry, and on fire. A frantic dash through some alleyways, via a gun shop where you briefly met the unfortunate owner Kendo, brought you to the Raccoon City Police Department and its promised refuge.

The demo only offered about 20 minutes of play, but it was clear that producer Shinji Mikam൲i, director Hideki Kamiya and their team had turned up all the dials. The zombies – in that innocent time when they were still the domain of George Romero movies and Italian gore flicks, and not yet done to death in popular culture – were the stars of the show and they were given appropriate attention. They were no longer limited to the country clodhoppers from the original and now wore various outfits. Female zombi🔯es were also introduced, and they all ambled around with increased curiosity, their heads slowly turning to track you, arms outstretched. The way they recoiled to gunshots was more lifelike (irony acknowledged), and it was now possible to blow them to bits using the more powerful weapons – arms flying, legs akimbo. Brilliant.

Character animation on the whole was improved and the pre-re𒁃ndered backgrounds were far more detailed. This was particularly true in the ruined city streets and the Gothic police station building. Perhaps the most surprising aspect of the demo was that it looked quite different to the early preview screens shown previously. As we now know, the original build of the sequel – officially Biohazard 2 Prototype, unofficially Resident Evil 1.5 – was scrapped due to quality concerns and the game was radically reworked.

This decision pushed the release date back to early 1998 and it's claimed that Resident Evil: Director's Cut was created to compensate for the delay, but we don't buy that – this was Hyper Turbo Arcade Edition Capcom we're talking about, after all. It's clear that the Japanese giant was in franchise-building mode and the Resident Evil 💙series was a slow train gathering steam.

Leon Kennedy stands in the lobby of the Raccoon Police City Station in Resident Evil 2 for the PC

When the sequel finally arrived we could appreciate the bigger, better approach that the demo teas🦩ed. As in the original, there were two playable characters – Leon was joined by Claire Redfield, the sister of Chris from the first game – but their exploits were now spread across two discs. In addition, each character had two scenarios, meaning you could play through the game four times and each run would be 𝔍slightly different (the second scenario memorably introduced Mr X, the tyrant in a trench coat).

Capcom made a lot of noise about what it called the zapping system, where actions taken in the first scenario would affect events in the second. But this feature was inconsistent and rather inconsequential in the end. Probably the most interesting 'zap' involved the oversized alligator♉ you faced in the sewers. If you defeated it following the scripted method (death by ignited gas canister), the tunnels would be reptile-free in the second scenario, but if you instead incapacitated it with bullets, it would return to menace you once more on your return run.

"The gator encounter was one of several ♋setpieces that led some critics to compare the game favourably to movies"

The gator encounter was one of several setpieces that led some critics to compare the game favourably to movies. and wrote, "With its unique camera angles, sඣtoryline, graphics, sound effects, and mus🃏ic, Resident Evil 2 seems more like a product out of Hollywood than the videogame industry. It surpasses its predecessor in nearly every aspect."

. "One area where Capcom is dead on is atmosphere," he wrote. "The graphics, sound effects, music and level design all w🍎ork together to keep you on the edge of your seat. In fact, Resident Evil 2 may have the best sound design yet for a console game." This comment will chime with many fans, as the soundtrack (overseen by lead composer Masami Ueda) brilliantly balanced traditional horror genre 'stingers' with quietly foreboding pieces, like the piano-driven themes that play in the police department's entrance hal🐻l and the save/safe rooms.

Sanchez scored the game 9.3/10, but did highlight a few misgivings in his review. "Aiming is still difficult, especially if you geꦺt trapped at the edge of a camera's view. The puzzles are less interesting than in the first game, posing little challenge to the experienced adventure gamer. Inventory management is still a pain." The aiming and the inventory issues were holdovers from the first game, but the comment about puzzles carried weight.

Perha💮ps in response to criticisms levelled at the first game, that some of the puzzles🌃 were frustrating and involved too much backtracking, progression through the sequel was relatively trouble-free – and quick. See the review in Computer & Video Games magazine, where Steve Key called the game "awesome", but drew attention to contrasting comments from readers, "Our forum page has differing views on RE2, many complaining that it's too short." It was realistic to beat Leon's first scenario in under five hours, and while there was Claire's story and the second scenarios available, you would experience a lot of what the game had to offer on that first run through. So unless you wanted to see and do everything, and unlock the special weapons and bonus minigames, was Resident Evil 2 an overnight rental proposition?

Of course not. The game was a huge worldwide hit and the initial PlayStation release went on to achieve lifetime sales of five million copies. As with the original, Capcom capitalised on its success with an updated version dubbed the DualShꦐock version, which added analogue controls and rumble sup⭕port, plus an unlockable new minigame, Extreme Battle.

Of interest, the Japanese DualShock version included two Arranged games: Rookie Mode and USA Version. The former was a super-easy mode where you began the game with an unlimited submachine gun, while the latter featured the slightly more difficult arrangement released in the US (players had less health, enemies were stronger, auꦗto-aim was not on by default and some of the ammo pick-ups were💛 hidden in the backgrounds). For some reason, the US version did not reciprocate by including the easier Japanese arrangement, but Rookie Mode was included instead.

The DualShock version wasn't released in Europe, yet it would serve as the template for the PC, Dreamcast and GameCube ports that were released worldwide. These conversions were solid if unspectacular, but a special mention must be reserved for the Nintendo 64 version, which somehow crammed 1.2GB of content into a 64MB cartridge. It's so impressive we've 🐼shined the spotlight on it over the page.

Resident Evi🀅l 2 received a celebrated remake in 2019, which should be most people's preferred way of revisiting Leon and Claire's story these days. But if you do hanker after the OG experience, then the easiest way is to grab the PC version from GOG. Alternatively, the PS1 version is still available on the PS3 shop (at the time of writing, at least), and of course the GameCube version is playable o⛄n Wii. Note that physical copies of the game generally command a premium, but perhaps it's a small price to pay to own a seminal piece of survival horror history.

And the award for the most ambitious port goes to… this marvel of optimisation that delivers the true Resident Evil 2 experience on a cartridge system – and even adds features such as the EX Files which explore series lore. Downgraded backgr𝄹ounds and FMVs are an acceptable concession.

GameCube

Leon Kennedy stands in front of a bus in Resident Evil 2 for the GameCube as zombies approach

A strange release, arriving after the GameCube's celebrated remake of Resident Evi𒀰l, but being a straight port of the DualShock version (even the gallery from the PC and DC versions is absent). Two plus points: everything is on one disc, and you can skip cutscenes (bye-bye Marvin's monologue).

Game Com

If you really want to play Resident Evil 2 on the go – skip this and copy the PlayStation version to a PSP 💙or Vita. Seriously though, this rough approximation for Tiger's handheld is almost unplayable thanks to the odd viewpoint and wonky controls. It's an interesting ൩curio for fans and little else.

The Remake

Resident Evil 2

Fans were calling on Capcom to remake Resident Evil 2 ever since the first game received a remake back in 2002. Their wishes were finally g𝓡ranted in 2019 when the new version was released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. And it was absolutely worth the wait. By taking what is many fans' favourite Resi story and setting, and marrying it with a modern third-person over-the-shoulder viewpoint, Capcom created a nigh-on perfect remake.

Its greatest trick is taking the familiar and making it as frightening as hell. The police station's east hallway was a brightly lit corridor in the original; in the remake, it's a bla🐭ck hellhole crawling wi🌼th zombies!

Every setpiece (bar that alligator boss, which is a disappointing QTE), has been refined, the tension heightened, the effect multiplied. The showpiece arrives in the second run-through with the arrival of the revamped Mr X, an enemy who's so good he deserves his own TV chat show. Add in The Ghost Survivors – several extra scenarios which expand on the Extre🧜me Battle concept – and the end result is a remake done right. The only missed opportunity was not including the original as a bonus unlockable, if only to emphasise how far videogames have come.

Bonus modes: The 4th Survivor

Aiming at Mr X on a stairwell in Resident Evil 2 for the PS1's 4th Survivor challenge mode

Available in every version and typically unlocked by completing both scenarios (and scoring an A rank in 🔯at least one of them), you have to guide supercop Hunk through 24 enemy-filled rooms, with scarce supplies. It's pretty difficult! Top advice: tip-toe past the Lickers.

The To-fu Survivor

Unlocking this is a joke (complete both scenarios three 🅰times, earning an A ranking in each one) and the actual minigame is equally daft – a spin on The 4th Survivor where you play a piece of squeaky bean curd armed only with a knife. For completists only.

Extreme Battle

Introduced in the PS1 DualShock version, this mode is unlocked by beating both s𒐪cenarios on Normal difficulty. Featuring three skill levels and fou♔r playable characters (including a neat cameo from Resident Evil's Chris Redfield), you must find bombs in semi-random locations.

Nightmare Mode

Zombies swarm Leon Kennedy outside Gun Shop Kendo in Resident Evil 2's Nightmare Mode

A feature of the Dreamcast version🎃, and unlocked by beating Expert difficulty, this is hands down the toughest way to play RE2. No auto-aim, enemies soak up bullets, pick-ups are limited by a third, and you can be done in by a couple of zombie bites. A nightmare indeed.

Randomizer Mode

Leon Kennedy explores a hallway in Resident Evil 2's Randomizer Mode

This mode appears in the Nintendo 64 version in place of Extreme Battle. It's basically the standard game where non-essential pick-ups are randomised. So instead of ha💖ndgun bullets you might find shotgun shells, or a first aid spray. It's a nice addition for seasoned players.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> Return to Silent Hill, the live-action film adaptation of Silent Hill 2, is being🌃 directed by Christophe Gans, who helmed the controversial 2006 Silent H💦ill movie, but it sounds like this new one will be more faithful to the game.

Per , Return to Silent Hill is set for a theatrical release on the big screen. There's still no release date attached, but we now know Cineverse has acquired the rights for the movie in the US. The company promised it'll be "a faithful adaptation of the vid🐭eo game Silent Hill 2," which is pretty much exactly what the 2006 Silent Hill wasn't.

This might be a hot take, but 2006 Silent Hill is a vibe, man. The plot's a little all over th💛e place and it's not afraid to take creative liberties that diverge from the games, but divorced from the Silent Hill name it's a half-decent supernatural horror movie with solid acting, great practical effects, and a consistently oppressive atmosphere.

That said, it is not a faithful adaptation of the game⭕s. With just how good Silent Hill 2's story is, I'm glad to hear Gans and co. are focusing on a more direct interpretation.

For what it's worth, t🔯he official press release includes the film's premise, and yeah, it seems pretty faithful:

"James, a man broken after his relationship wi൲th the love of his life, Mary, ends. When a mysterious letter from her calls him back꧅ to Silent Hill, he finds a once-recognizable town transformed by an unknown evil.

While James desperately search♍es for Mary he encounters terrifying creatures and begins to unravel the mystery of what happened to the town. But as he descends deeper into the darkness the secrets he uncovers lead to a horrifying truth, and James finds himself struggling to hold on long enough to save his one true love."

Return to Silent Hill stars Mammඣa Mia! Here We Go Again lead Jeremy Irvine as main protagonist James Sunderland and Jigsaw star Hannah Emily Anderson as Mary Shepherd-Sunderland.

"I am delighted to partner with Cineverse, which has shown a genuine understanding of fanship," said Gans. "Return to Silent Hill is an adaptation created out of deep respect for a true masterpie🦹ce of a game, Konami's iconic Silent Hill 2. I hope fans will enjoy and be fulfilled with the experience this new film has to offer."

Until then, here are the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best Silent Hill games you can play tonight, with the꧋ lights turned off, of cours💛e.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> The first thing I do in Look Outside is follow instructions. Clicking the window in my dingy, pixelated bedroom and pulling back the curtains – at the behest of a literal eyeball peeking out from the wall, no less – was never going to be a good idea. But if I was going to play a sur✤vival horror RPG, I felt it wise to know myꦰ enemy...

One of the most intriguing (and horrifying) 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:new games of 2025, Look Outside is an eerie point & click adventure that has 澳洲幸运5𝐆开奖号码历史查询:grabbed indie horro꧋r fans by the molars and refuses to let go. The solodev project from Francis Coulombe is equal measures scary and funny, riffing off the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best survival horror games and pixel role-playing 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:games like Stardew Valley to deliver an off-kilter scare-'⭕em-up you won't soon forget.

Hell in the hallways

Look Outside screenshot

Your task is simple in Look Outside: don't look out the window (unless you wan♒t to see the game over screen), and try and stay alive for 15 day🐲s.

This should be enough time for the danger to pass, according to Sybil the wall eyeball. Yes she has a name, and yes she seems friendly. With limited food supplies and a scant array of leisurely items to pasꦑs the time, though, trying not to Look Outside over these 15 days sounds hard in itself. But that is why our intrepid hero must venture forth into the rest of the building to check on his neighbors, learn more about the phe🌺nomenon outside, and see just how strange things have gotten in this once-normal apartment block...

The thing that impresses me most about Look Outside is how clever it is. As a pixel RPG with a survival horror framework, my time is split between personal maintenance (not unlike 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:The Sims 4), exploration, puzzles,♓ and turn-based combat encounters. Digi-synth beats accompany me every step of the way, amping up the 80s sci-fi vibe as Look Outside's cramp🧸ed world of nightmares grows more claustrophobic by the minute.

When I'm not facing the warped entities shuffling about the apartment building, I'm fighting to simply keep my body going. Eating, sleeping, showering, even brushing one's teeth are core aspects of the game's RPG systems; some actions boost health and stamina, earning a little XP while I'm at it, while others are about simply making time tick by and getting some nice status buffs. Playing a couple hours of video games is fun despite the more humble time sink, though it bestows a sense of Calm in the process. On the other hand, embarking upon four hours of crossword puzzles is "soul-crus𒅌hingly boring" even if it does pass a good chunk of time.

If all these things ▨help you maintain your stats, it mak🐠es sense that others can throw them into chaos. Especially when, ultimately, the best way to make time go faster in Look Outside is to muster up some courage and venture out of your apartment... if you dare.

Gnawing shadows

A circlet🌜 of dim yellow light surrounding your player character is often all that illuminates the space...

Dare, you should. Look Outside's savvy survival horror flair makes every dangerous trip outside your safe room more than worth the risk. Think grotesque enemies with unc🐼omfortable names like Toothling, Teratoma, Observer, and Onlooker, as well as limited ammo, new weapons to find while exploring, and plenty of locked doors with hidden keys to hunt down as you investigate the curious happenings around you.

Unless playing on Easy mode, the only way to save is to go back to your apartment and chat to Sybil, much like collecting ink ribbons for typewriter saves in the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best Resident Evil games. Thanks to the RPG elements, there's also a clothing equipment mechanic on top of your weapons loadout. So far, I've stumbled across a✨ set of rags, 𝔉a hoodie, and a tank top on my journey, each with requisite attack or defense buffs to give you an edge in combat.

The combat encounters themselves borrow elements from the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best Pokemon games, but with insidious, horrific twists. Instead of a wild Clefairy appearing in tall grass, enemies lurk in the darkness all around. A circlet of dim yellow light surrounding your player character is often all that illuminates the space, whetheওr running from an enemy down a never-ending hallway or creeping through a neighbor's apartment. You can click on a wandering enemy to start a battle yourself, but don't worry – they'll make a beeline straight for you if you don't. Look Outside's turn-based combat is simple but effective, with both regular and special attacks at your disposal.

Look Outside screenshot of a combat encounter with two Onlookers

Look Outside's cramped world of nightmares grows more claustr⛦ophobic by the minute.

Special attacks cost a little Stamina, and also pose a marginal risk. From a weapon being damaged to inflicting some damage upon yourself in the process, these risks do often pay off for the high reward output. I eventually get my hands on a pistol and some ammo, perfect for encounters with more powerful enemies, though upon encountering such foes, the game points out in a barefaced hint that "you feel the urge to run away". Since most health items cannot be used mid-combat, aside from tonics, sometimes it's best to hedge your bets and make a beeline for your safe room – unless you fancy committing theꦺ cardinal survival🍸 horror sin and wasting bullets on the small fry.

I've only experienced a few hours of Look Outside's quirky yet haunting universe, and I'm already charmed by it. Each in-game day that ticks by could be rife with boredom – it may well be possible to sit out the whole 15 day period with video games and pizza bites, for example – but the intrigue of it all keeps you exploring. What happened here? What are these extra-terrestrial beings that "burn away living essence" with a mere glance? What do I do with all this cash I've amassed? You never know what you'll find behind a locked door in Look Outside, from an overly friendly NPC who asks for a kiss in exchange for𝓀 some photo film to a young man with teeth erupting across his entire face. I kissed the NPC. I killed the young man. I went home and ate some pizza bites. Life could definitely be worse, but hey – at least I didn't look outside (again).

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> Cronos: The New Dawn – the first original horror IP developer Bloober is working on after its 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill 2 remake – is a rancid reimagining of Soviet-era Poland, and sweet kitties apparently love feasting on the monstrous fle෴sh it's littered with.

Or something like that, based on what Cronos co-director Wojciech Piejko told GamesRadar+ du🌼ring a recent𓄧 interview at GDC 2025.

"We've got cat💯s in the game; you can pet them," Piejko said♐ about Cronos, what so far seems to be a retrofuturist Dead Space starring a masked time traveler. "They are serving as collectibles."

I'd say that collectible, fluffy cats are a tonal contrast to the pale, writhing, tentacled alien skin 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:a new gameplay trailer reveals you'll need to keep froꦓm merging into one, big, multi-lim🌼bed enemy sack… but, you know, I bet cats at the end of time would eat anything.

A screenshot shows the desolate, foggy blue landscape of Cronos: The New Dawn

And here's another cute detail: "all the cats are based on the real cats that belong to our crew," Piejko said. "There was like a casting for ca🍨ts – people were sending photos and name🌠s."

I'm sure the opportunity to be featured in Cronos spread like sandy kitty litter among the cat community; our feline friends have likely been looking for a PR reset ever since 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:the Cats movie suggested them to be unfeeling, ℱgluttonous space creatures in 2019.

Obviously, they're actually unfeeling, Eastern European angels – a categorization I, since my mother's from Bulgaria, can empathize with. It's a tough job, being an angel on Earth. It requires a lot of lounging in the sun and running afte🐲r laser pointers, and sometimes, there just aren't enough hours in the day.

But someone's gotta do it. And it sounds like Cronos' cats do it with a smile – o🧔r, uh, a meow – as Piejko said they "add somethin𝐆g like a mild comedy, let's say, and the human touch to our character."

Can you imagine it? Cats humanizing people, and people popping bullets into monster torsos. It's practically 𓆏paradise.

Cronos: The New Dawn co-directors talk merging abominations, Resident Evil, Dark Souls, and Netflix's Dark of all things: "We've got a deep psychological story to tell."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> Developer Bloober Team has perhaps more eyes than ever on it thanks to the rather successful, critically and commercially, Silent Hill 2 remake that was released in late 2024. But that's a remake, and Cronos: The New Dawn is the opposite – an all-new survival horror IP. What sort of statement do you try to make following all of ✨that success with the first original work since?

"That we can go really heavy," says C൲ronos: The New Dawn co-director Jacek Zięba, immediately, when I ask directly during an interview at GDC 2025.

Key info

Developer: Bloober Team
Publisher: Bloober Team
Platform(s):
PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Release date:
2025

"When we started doing Cronos, our second team was already doing the Silent Hill 2 remake," adds fellow co-director Wojciech Piejko. "So ꦫfrom the beginning, we don't want to overlap with them. So we said, 'OK, let's make it more gameplay heavy, like a limited inventory, a lot of decisions, more tools, m🔯ore weapons.'"

"I think this game is more Resident Evil-ish," he continues, "but still, we've got a deep psychological storไy to tell."

Familiar and unfamiliar

Cronos: The New Dawn screenshot showing the player shooting at an abomination on the ceiling

"We worked together on The Medium, and now we have a bigger fish here," says Piejko. "Our dream come 🌟true; our first survival horror game made by us as directors."

"We are so excited that we get out from t﷽he wardr🅷obe," says Zięba.

"After four years of making this, fi🧜♛nally showing it," adds Piejko, "it's awesome."

The basic premise of Cronos: The New Dawn sees players take on the role of a Traveller, described as "an agent of the mysterious Collective, emerging from a dystopian future to dive back into time and extract key people before they perish in the apocalypse" as part of the press release revealing the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:first Cronos gameplay trailer.

"We are in some strange future," says Zięba. "We don't know exactly the year, but what's important: the world ends in [the] '80s, and we are in Poland. So everything you will see, it's how Poland looked in💛 [the] '80s, but never had a chance to go to '90s – so it's alternative history. This allows us to use unique Polish aesthetics, use brutalistic architectures, and mix it with cassette futurism sci-fi you know from Alien or Star Wars."

There's an analog-style sci-fi bent to Cronos: The New Dawn, which is also very Polish. Both are intentional and essential, according to the co-directors. All the in-game writing is in Polish, for example, though you can hover over them for translated subtitles. Zięba shows me this while pointing at some store signs during a hands-off demo, explicitly noting that the design decision bumps up the weir🧸dness and alienness for other players that don't know Polish.

"The New Dawn, it's a subtitle for our game, but also the name of the district where the game is happening," says Piejko. "And The New Dawn is based on a real district in Krakow, which in the real world is called Nowa Huta, which means 'New Steelworks'. So we recreated it – of course, [we] changed a little bit here and there, but if you came to Poland, to Krakow, yo꧋u can recognize a lot of places from the game there."

Merge madness

Cronos: The New Dawn screenshot

"It's a full-fledged survival💫 horror game with limited inventory, and all you can imagine, but we did something special to spice up the combat," says Piejko, referring to one of Cronos: The New Dawn's core mechanics.

In short, your enemies can merge together to create even more hor♔rifying monsters. Even if you've downed one enemy, if they're not fully neutralized – by, for example, burning them – they can be gobbled up by another to evolve into a singular critter that's bigger and badder with additional abilities.

Zięba demonstrates this merging by circling what looks to be an abandoned park, waking up all the Orphans (Cronos's name for its abominations) in the area. As he does, there's a brief, alien-looking animation where one Orphan gets close enough and swallows another, and then another, and then another, until the hulking monstrosity in front of us only barely ꦰresembles what was, in hindsight, its meeker forebearer. Despite the location, the following fight is no picnic.

Cronos: The New Dawn screenshot featuring terrifying flesh-like bits hanging all around the landscape

"We built everything around this merge mechanic; our weapons are prepared for crowd control," says Piejko. You can fire your pistol into enemies like normal, for example, or you can line them up and charge it up to fire piercing shots, getting literally🅠 more bang for your buck. Similarly, a charged shotgun shot increases its spread, letting you take on enemies over a wider area.

"This also recreates a feeling of an old school survival horror game as you're glཧued to the ground while aiming," adds Piejko. "Here you can move, but really slowly, as a good risk and reward type of thing."

Inspired design

While some of Cronos: The New Dawn's inspirations are more obvious than others, one stands above the rest: Dark, the surreal time trave💮l Netflix series. A short description of the show is basically impossible, but it plays with the horror inherent to time travel while also attempting to prevent an apocalypse with damning ramifications♔ and philosophical quandaries.

"It was a huge impact on us when we watched it," says Zięba, "even during The Medium. But for this game, [Dark] was one of 𝄹the backbones."

The duo rattle off a bunch of other inspirations in quick success♛ion: 12 Monk♏eys, Annihilation, John Carpenter's The Thing, the Blame manga by Tsutomu Nihei and the character Killy's gun, specifically, for the game's discharge weapons.

"In the case of games, all the new [Resident Evil games]; maybe mostly all the Resis in a way, different ones, different tastes," says 🎐Zięba. "Dead Space. Even The Last of Us – this game💧 has a lot of different tastes of survival horror."

Cronos: The New Dawn screenshot featuring a darkened hallway where items mysteriously float

We built everything around this merge💝 mechanic; our weapons are prepared for crowd control

"We are also inspired by Dark Souls games, so we are sometimes putting traps in a level to change the pace," adds Piejko while we explore an area with bright, green boils dotting the ground. "On the outside you run, and now running [inside], it's not the best idea. Of course, we are not wanting to be bad game masters so you can spot all the mines if you pay attent༒ion."

It's not just traps and level design, however. Zięba notes that the FromSoftware approach to storytelling ꦅand overall design philosophy are also alive and well in Cronos: The New Dawn. If you want to know everything, all the lore details and specifics, you're going to need to dig deep – and Cronos will absolutely punish you if you're too relaxed and lackadaisical.

Despite all of these disparate inspirations, the co-directors aren't concerned about Cronos: The New Dawn losing its own identity in the mix. 🧸In fac🐷t, they laugh when I ask how they make sure not to get lost in the soup of it all.

"We hav🐟e a game based in Poland's '80s in a sღtrange future, in sci-fi cassette futurism," says Zięba. "I think we are distinct."

Cronos: The New Dawn is set to release for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2025. No definitive release date has been announced as of yet. If you're looking for something to play in the meantime, it would probably be worth checking out the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best games to play in 2025 so far.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> One of the most wonderful things about videogames is their power to transport us to places we’d 🌃never have visited otherwise – and increasingly that’s not just imagined fantasy worlds but ones rooted in real-world locations. Bloober Team recently straddled the two, taking us to a supernatural version of small-town America in its excellent Silent Hill 2 remake. But for its follow-up, Cronos: The New Dawn, the developer is returning to its native Poland.

For Edge 410’s cover story, we visit Bloober’s studio in Krakow for a world-first hands-on with the game – and to scope out the real-life locations on which it’s based. Touring the streets and bunkers of Nowa Huta, a Communist ‘ideal city’ that was never completed, we learn why Bloober chose it as the basis of its sci-fi horror game. It’s a fascinating place, recreated in Cronos with the same painstaking detail as Silent Hill – even before Bloober drops an apocalypse on it, tearing the buildings asunder and 🌃transforming its residents into monstrous creatures.

As we learn during our demo, this is the setup for a muscular action game ▨with a horrifying edge. Game director Jacek Zieba wears his inspirations on his sleeve: “Each level giv♐es us a different shade of survival horror: ‘Oh, this is more like Resi 2 [remake]. This is more like Dead Space. This is more like Dark Souls’.” But Bloober has built on those foundations with new ideas, including chargeable guns, travel through time, and monsters that can merge with corpses to grow more powerful.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> Gummy piles of monster flesh, a skinny Christmas tree, burnt-out buildings, frozen in time – this is not an antisocial shopping list, but the broken heart pieces a new trailer reveals of retrofuturist Bloober game 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Cronos: The New Dawn.

The gameplay preview suggests sci-fi Cronos could be the Dead Space of my unpleasant dreams, rooted in familiar humanity rather than the iconic 2008 survival shooter's more cliඣnical, dull metal spaceship. But instead of letting its horror unfold in a sterile environment, Cronos seems to let it mingle with reality.

Sure, there are earthworm-colored aliens – which apparently have the a✨bility to merge their skin with one another as if made from chewing gum, "turning every encounter into a mind-bending nightmare and a struggle for survival," PR says. But Cronos' time-traveling protagonist also wanders through empty apartments, over winding cobblestone streets in a deadly Polish winter.

This more anxious approach to horror – taking recognizable, comforting scenes and coating them in plague – reminds me of the surreal 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill 2 remake; ജit seems that Bloober has learned a lesson in psychological subtlety, showing𒆙 fearsomeness rather than instructing you to be afraid, as its 2016 game Layers of Fear did.

Cronos: The Ne🍒w Dawn also looks like it'll be much more proactive than that game, which players have sometimes derisively . The Traveler, encased in their clunky gray spacesuit, apparently gets to twirl around during zero-gravity jumps and whack monsters with many kinds of explosives, contributing to the dusty wind that surrounds them.

"Bring them back," the gameplay trailer instructs in🐻 big red letters about what PR describes as a group of "enigmatic characters" – all human. Will see what's left of them when Cronos: The New Dawn releases some ♉time this year.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> Despite having worked on the original sci-fi FPS as a playtester three decades ago, Arcane Studios founder Ra🅺phaël Colantonio says he's given up on the 2023 System Shock remake after becoming "frustrated" by its difficult gameplay.

Forꦗ some context, Colantonio helped out with QA on the original System Shock when he was at EA in the early 90s, and he says that experience was a pivotal moment in his career.

"I was already hooked [on video games] when I had a chance to playtest System Shock back then, and so it was♏ just some sort of destiny that I was so lucky," he tells the Quad Damage Podcast (). "Because I could not believe what was happening to me."

♉Asked if he's played the 2023 System Shock remake from the retro pros at Nightdive Studios, Colantonio confirms: "A little꧟ bit, yeah.

"I tried the one that came out a year or two ago — I got stuck in the cyberspace, unfortunately. That gameplay was too hard, so I was frustrat𓂃ed by iꦺt. But the rest was really cool until then."

In both the original game and the remake, the cyberspace portions of the game are widely considered notorio🍰usly confusing and difficult, and the worst parts of their respective games. In the story, it's a digital realm representing the space where all computers in the world communicate and 🍸store data, but gameplay-wise they thrust players into confusing, maze-like 3D maps that you often have to enter to complete main objectives and find valuable loot. Compounding the difficulty are hordes of bullet spongey enemies that will have you booting up your old copy of Descent just to train for.

Anyway, tha🌠t's all to say I completely understand Colantonio calling it quits when he reached that p💟oint in the game, and it's probably time to admit that I did too. You can have my gamer card, I'd prefer to keep my sanity.

In the meantime, here are the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best horror games you can play with the lights out tonight.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill f's director has shed some light on the game's Ot🌳herworld segments, saying that the team wanted a "blend of new and nostalgic."

There have been a lot of different interpretations of Silent Hill at this point, but – barring Ascension and The Short Message – they've all had one thing in common: actually taking place in Silent Hill, Maine (the titular Book of Memories was sent from Silent Hill, I'm counting it). But Silent Hill f is breaking that trend; this time around it's taking place in 1960s Japan in a town called Ebisugaoka (which is based on a town that can be澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询: just as 🐼spooky, according to the 🅰locals).

And of course, there's another layer to Silent Hill; at some point or another, the protagonist will wander into the Otherworld. This is a part of Silent Hill that can reflect the psyche of whoever inhabits it (most famously it's a rusty and bloody mess in the original game). This time around, the Otherworld takes place in a place called 'The Dark Shrine,' we didn't get to see much of it in 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:the recent trailer, although it was home to a h🍎orrific doll monster.

Konami made a new post on the showing off The Dark Shrine in all its glory. While this isn't exactly a big deal, Silent Hill f's director, Al Yang, chimed in with some more details about the new Otherworld. In a Yang said, "One of the big challenges for us on SILENT HILL f was to create an interesting Otherworld for our new setting." Afterwards, Yang dug a little deeper into the philosophy behind the design, say🍰ing that NeoBards wanted to find "that blend of new and nostalgic."

Of course, details on just what Silent Hill f has in store are still being held close to Konami's chest. But considering the game has already been 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:rated by the ESRB and CERO (making it the first game in the series to be澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询: rated 18+ in Japan), it's lik🌺ely we'll find out more in the near future.

In other Silent Hill news, series artist and Pyramid Head creator Masahiro Ito is getting frustrated with – as he puts it – "fucking ridiculous headcanons."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill artist Masahiro Ito is getting tired of some of the fan theories about the series, lamenting that he occasionally needs to "deny the fuckin ridiculous headcano🅘ns."

Spoilers for 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill 2 and its remake are below, as well as mentions of potentially upsetting topics like sexual assault.

Silent Hill is a series that inspires a ton of fan theories. When you're dealing with the occult or unreliable narrators in a town that has been shown to be able to shape itself to specifically target people's trauma, there's no doubt a lot of interpretations that can come to be. A developer from Bloober Team – who developed the Silent Hill 2 remake – even said they 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:spent hours looking up fan theories during the remake's development.

While some of these are extremely out there – like a theory/debate on whether Silent Hill 4's Walter Sullivan is circumcised () – some of these are more realistic than others. There was a long-standing theory that James Sunderland had his dead wife Mary's body in the back of his car, which was confirmed by using the camera out of bounds in the Silent Hill 2 remake. Plus, a theory of the game taking place in a time loop due to series' art director that every Silent Hill 2 ending is canon seems to have been 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:hinted at in the remake.

However, despite being a proponent of some theꦏories, Ito is seemingly tired of them. showing artwork of the Silent Hill 2 boss, Abstract Daddy, which is theorized to be a monstrous manifestation of the character Angela Orosco's trauma after she🐎 was sexually assaulted.

While Ito that the version of this monster that James sees is different to what Angela sees, a fan asked Ito if James had also been a victim of sexual assualt, which would trigger his response to the boss. this had to be the case and said that the fan in question should "listen to their own thoughts without listening to famous h🥂eadcanons."

on things in response to a fan saying the theory "has no merit at all" by saying, "but 'low IQs' believe the insane theories and spread them. I occasionally need to deny the fuckin ridiculous headcanons." I imagine it has to be exhausting being any prominent game dev on Twitter (see: Hideki Kamiya's mentions being filled with vitriol after he said he felt bad 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Assassin's Creed Shadows w𝔉as criticized so much), so it's no wonder Ito is starting to get a bit annoyed with the amount of theories he receives almost daily.

A developer on the Silent Hill 2 remake recently revealed that he was 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:"afraid there might be no good way" to rebuild the game.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill f's has not actually been banned in Australia.

The Australian ratings board has been known to refuse to rate games fairly regularly, with the likes of 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:South Park: The Stick of Truth and having to be edited to release in the country. While it has calmed down in recent years with the introduction of the R18+ rating in 2013, some games like Sludge Life and 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Hotline Miami 2 are still unavailable in Australia. It looked like Silent Hill f would be the next game🍎 to join the list, but it seems like that was a mistake.

In a statement to GamesRadar+, a spokesperson from the Classification Board told us, "澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill f is not currently classified as ‘Refused Classification’ in Australia." The ga𒈔me's page on the has been removed, implyiജng it was mistakenly posted in the first place.

So as it currently stands, Silent Hill f isn't banned in Australia. However, this does not mean it's in the clear. While the game no longer has a 'Refused Classification" rating, the Australian Classification Board hasn't given it a different rating either. There's still a chance the game can be refused classification later down the line. The spokesperson from the Classification Board told us that "a classification decision will b𒀰e published to the National Classification Database ahead of the game’s release."

One of the themes that often lead to bans with the Australian Classification Board is drug use. Wasteland 3 and Fallout 3 both had to have edits over the use of drugs in-game. While it doesn't necessarily mean a ban is going to happen, It's worth noting that the mentions "drug-induced hallucinations."

Banned or not, it looks like Silent Hill f is going to be pretty unsettling, with Konami urging players, "If you feel uncomfortable at any point while playing, please take a break."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> We've only seen very little of 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill f in the grand scheme of things, and already it looks to be one of the scariest games in the series. It's the first game in the series to be 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:rated 18+ in Japan, and the ESRB description for the game mentions "faces ripped apart," "a character burned alive ꩲinside a cage," and "entrails and sinew displayed on ser🧸ving platters." The game is seemingly so horrific that Konami felt the need to include a 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:disclaimer on the game's store page saying, "If yo♎u feel uncomfortable at any point 🌄while playing, please take a break from playing or speak to someone you trust."

Well, the next bit of evidence in favor of 'Silent Hill f is going to be super scary' has just dropped. The Australian government has for the upcoming horror game, that being 'RC,' which is 'Refused Classificat🙈ion. This means that without🦹 changes to the game's content, it won't be released in Australia.

While the Australian government website typically gives a reason for something being refused classification, the section for that simply says, "For further information r🦩egarding the reason for this decision, please contact us." GamesRadar+ has contacted the ♍ratings board and will provide an update should we get a response.

However, with thꦑe horrific details listed in the ESRB description and the , saying the game features depictions of "gender discrimination, child abuse, bullying, drug-induced hallucinations, torture, and graphic violence," it's probably one or many of those that are tꦑhe reason for Australia's decision. The only Silent Hill game banned in Australia previously was 2008's Silent Hill: Homecoming, which ended up being in a censored state the following year.

Video game bans still happen shockingly frequently in Australia; most recently, the upcoming fighter 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Hunter x Hunter Nen x Impact was banned ahead of its launch later this year.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> Former Silent Hill art director Masahiro Ito, who's responsible for fueling so many of our nightmares by creating Pyramid Head, has re-s🤡hared some old con🐈cept art of creatures he says still exist in his mind and could show up in future projects.

Ito first shared the below images in August 2022, but he recently reposted them to Twitter in the wake of Konami's recent 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:re-reveal of Silent Hill f, the next mainline game in the series. To be fair, t𒁏he connection between Ito's new tweet and the new S🧜ilent Hill f trailer is tenuous at best, but the timing is notable.

"🐟They are some of cr𓄧eature concept sketches I drew in 2016," Ito said. "They were not chosen back then, but still exist in my mind and their children may be in any titles in future."

Again, as far as we know, 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Ito isn't involved in Silent ꦐHill f in any way and almost certainly isn't suggesting his concept art will be used in any 𝓡upcoming Silent Hill game, but I'd imagine if his work is up for sale, there w🔜ill be plenty of bidders among horror game devs.

While Silent Hill f isn't benefitting from Ito's iconic art, there is another legendary name attached to the game: Higurashi When They Cry creator Ryukishi07, who's writing f's story and recently said he worked so hard🌳 🧔on it that "I don't think I would mind if it was the last thing I ever wrote."

Silent Hill 2 remake director had no choice but to make Pyramid Head "more aggressive and faster" during his iconic fight: "We've been losing something, but we've been gaining something, too."

It's been confirmed that Silent Hill f will launch on PC, Xbox Series X, and PS5!

Hav𝓡ing an Xbox confirmation is big news, especially considering how the♐ 2024 Silent Hill 2 Remake was a PC and PlayStation exclusive. It also seems like every gamer will have access to the title on day one, as no exclusivity deals have been mentioned either. Currently, you can already wishlist the title on your platform of choice!

What platform we are still waiting on, however, is the Switch and Switch 2. We are holding out hope that Silent Hill f gets added to our list of 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:upcoming Switch 2 games in the future. But as it currently stands, Nintendo is avoiding all the nightmares and mayhem for now. We'll keep you posted if any news heads our way. In the meantime, if you need something to hold you over while you wait for a release, you can also check out our list of the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best Silent Hill games to play today.

Silent Hill f trailer

PlayStation revealed a new Silent Hill f trailer in March 2025 and its a dozy. Running for almost four minutes long we are treated to cinematic shots of 💟the game's setting, the fictional town of Ebisugaoka, Japan, and we get to meet our protagonist, the high school student Hinako Shimizu.

The town is ominous from the get-go in the trailer, immersed in a th🥂ick fog that soon has Hinako wandering around empty streets. However, things really kick off when we spot some Red Spider Lilies ꩵblooming (you know that flower that symbolizes death?). Hinako is transported to another plane of existence, walking through a temple that seems to be filled with a myriad of monsters.

While not much is given away in terms of story, the trailer does promise one thing: expect to be creeped out. If you doubt that fact, make sure you rewatch the last few seconds of the teaser above, they end things with a gruesome punch as Hinako's skin sta🍎rts peeling off her face. Delightful!

Silent Hill f story and setting

A mysterious fog surrounding the fictional Japanese town of Ebisugaoka during the reveal trailer for Silent Hill f.

Silent Hill f is an original story, meaning that you won't need to have played any of the previous games in the series ahead of its release.🦂 It's also the first Silent Hill game to give us a story set in Japan! That's right; we are moving away from the titular New England t🍨own seen in Konami's past main-line entries to a new continent.

During this upcoming horror game, you'll be navigating the Japanese town of Ebisugaoka during the 1960s. A fun fact: the town of Ebisugaoka is based on a real place called Kanayama, Gero, in 𝐆the Gifu P𒈔refecture. Written by ꦕJapanese author and artist Ryukishi07, the story of💎 Silent Hill f will follow the high schooler Hinako Shimizu, who lives an ordinary life until a mysterious fog engulfs her town and begins to change it in horrific ways.

Along with the foggy town, the teaser for Silent Hill f, shows Hinako being transported to shrines that echo the game's Japanese setting, diving into some mythology and history as well. From the trailer, we know that there will be some psychological elements at play throughout Hinako's journey as well. The teaser has a voice-over asking us if we "want to stay with our friends forever" before discussing how they may betray us and that ♈it's up to us to decide their worth.

We're excited to see if there will be any more information on the story or Silent Hill f's monsters in꧃ the future. But for now, it's thrilling enough to see a Silent Hill entry not set in the United States for once. We'll keep you posted as more news heads our way!

Silent Hill f gameplay

Like every other Silent Hill game, Silent Hill f is a surv🉐ival horror game that will have you solving puzzles and trying not to die as gruesome monsters wander around the map, posed to kill you if given the chance.

🍬You will have to guide Hinako through the monster-infested town and will likely have to find certain keys or solve riddles to move through areas of the fogged-up map. Combat will also be a part of the upcoming game, as the Silent Hill f description (via ) mentions Hinako "fighting strange enemies and doing everything she can to survive."

We got our first official look at gameplay during the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:State of Play June 2025 showcase (which you can watch above). After speaking with a friend, we see how things suddenly a dark and mysterious turn when monsters start to appear. We got to follow Hinako as she faces some incredibly unsettling, scarecrow-like figures that stalk towards Hinako with unn🀅atural twisting limbs.

In an official following the showcase, Konami producer Motoi Okamoto detailed the team's approach for Silent Hill f's feel and gameplay, revealing that the "puzzles are grounded in psychological anguish and suffering. These are🍷 deeply connected to the story by scriptwriter Ryukishi07, as well as elements of Japanese 🎉culture, such as scarecrows".

Okamoto also adds that the game "features unique combat", and the "encounters are as challenging as obstacles Hinako must overcome in life". W♋ith a heavier focus on melee which is definitely shown off in the trailer as Hinako fights off enemies in close quarters combat with s𒉰teel pipe-like weapons, Silent Hill f is also said "be more action-oriented compared to last year's Silent Hill 2.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> Silent Hill 2's iconic Labyrinth area ꧙is one of the scariest and most challenging levels in both the 2001 classic and the 2024 remake, but it's also one of the least understood from a narrative perspective.

Light spoilers for Silent Hill 2 Remake to follow, so turn back now if you haven't finished the main campaign and want to experience it blind.

It seems intentional that the exact nature of the Labyrinth is left to players' imaginations in both games, which of course makes the whole area ripe f༺or fan theories. Broadly speaking, most agree that it's some sort of manifestation of James' grief and guilt, but there's a lot of symbolism whose meaning has never been explicitly made clear. For example, in the remake there's that horrifying wall made of seemingly human legs, and in both games Maria's bizarre behavior has been something players have been left to decipher on their own.

Speaking at thi🐈s year's Game Developers Co﷽nference, Bloober Team senior level designer Anna Oporska-Szybisz said the team meticulously trawled the internet for fan theories on the Labyrinth while rebuilding it for the remake, and although she wasn't pleased with everything she saw, she grew to appreciate the fans' perspective.

"I can't tell you how many hours we ൲spent watching, reading, discussing all the elemen☂ts that we can [find] on the internet," Oporska-Szybisz said. "Our main goal has always been to respect the fans and never, ever disregard any of their theories.

"I don't like everything that I found there, to be honest, but when we started analyzin🐓g them and finding all the cons and pros behind them, I started to love the way that people were thinking about the Labyrinth, and wanted to incorporate as many things as I can in it."

We'll probably never know exactly which specific fan theories impressed Bloober Team𝐆 enough to consider potentially canonizing them, but it's neat to know the developers are keeping abreast of this sorta stuff.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> Silent Hill 2 is overrun with monsters – their flesh taut and torn, blood or rust seeping from the cracks – but I've always been most viscerally opposed to that one scene where James sticks his hand in a rancid toilet bowl. In its 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill 2 remake, developer Bloober decided that this was the b🍒est method to punish James for his wife-hating ways: d🍌irty holes.

While discussing level design at GDC 2025 [spoilers to come], Bloober's senior level designer Anna Oporska-Szybisz des🤡cribed a "rotten area" Bloober decided to devote to the theme of "disgust, which is supposed to represent how James felt when he saw the face and the body of the loved ꦜone taken by the disease."

It's his wife Mary, who, we learn by the end𝔉 of the game, was never really waiting for James in their "special place" like a lost princess – at least, not in any physical sense. ꩵJames already suffocated with her own pillow, unable to keep enduring the illness changing her body and temperament.

"The thing we were aiming for here was, 'my lover's rotten,'" Oporska-Szybisz said during her GDC pane⛄l🤪. "The illness took not only the body of Mary, but also their love."

To parallel that breakdown, Bloober tainted its 𝄹remake's atmosphere with "mostly a yellowish color, rust, and dirt to achieve this feeling," Oporska-Szybisz says, "and to show everything through environmental [aspects]."

She accentuated her point by showing off a familiar game mechanic she calls "searching," or, "probably, we can call it, 'forcing James to put his hand in the dirty places.'" In Bloober's remake, this look🍸s like James – that nut – grimacing delicately as he plun𒁏ges his hand into a full toilet bowl to retrieve an item. When you don't think it can get any worse, he decides he must go deeper, he sinks his entire arm into the toilet, practically pressing his ear against the seat, and finally fishes out a key item with his greasy, poopy hand. Well… better him than me.

Silent Hill 2 remake director had no choice but to make Pyramid Head "more aggressive and faster" during his iconic fight: "We've been losing something, but we've been gaining something, too."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> I couldn't care less about the perpetually single, square jaws who slurp raw steak and snort protein powder for the sake of their restrictive masculinity; to me, a real man is the physical manifestation of subconscious guilt and stalks the dilapidated halls of a tarry mind while maintaining his effortless six pack by toting a very menacing – and certainly tetanus-inducing – megalithic knife. So, that's why I love Pyramid Head, especially after Silent Hill 2 remake developer Bloober hadܫ to make significant changes to his first boss fight.

"There was a risk of losing specific feeling from the original game," creative director Mateusz Lenart said at 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:GDC 2025. "It can be seen especially with the boss fights, which we ཧneeded to redesign completely."

Lenart goes on to give Pyramid Head's initial boss fight encounter as an example [major spoilers to follow]. In Konami's 2001 game, the brief scene b🔴egins with blood-soaked Pyramid Head in a stairwell humping a moaning mannequin, who sounds like a really awful video I saw of a on a carrot. Pyramid Head dumps her body like a heavy bag of groceries when he spots protagonist James, as blond and dazed as ever, so he broods over him for a while before retreating down a submerged set of stairs.

Pyramid Head approaches James in the original Silent Hill 2.

"It will not work with the new perspect𝄹ives and systems that we are creating," such as third-person camera, Lenart said definitive💃ly.

"We needed to make the room bigger," he explained, "which forced us to find a new place for the fight, which naturally made the need for Pyramid Head to be more aggressive and 🌠faster. This change also forced us to resign from the 'water staircase' idea, which 🍸was really memorable from the original game."

These might be substantial tweaks to an iconic scene, but, as a longtime fan of Silent Hill, I was relieved when I saw what Bloober had done to my man Pyramid Head. When I played the original Silent Hill 2 on PS1 nearly a decade ago, I kept slꦰoppily failing his boss encounter, which forced me to watch Pyramid Head pushing himself onto a groaning mannequin over and over again, which made me want to put my face in a blender.

Bloober's remake ditches the assault entirely, which I appreciate as both a woman tired of gratuitous sexual assault in ho🌜rror, and also as person who saw a pufferfish choke on 🍬a carrot. Bloober's Pyramid Head is also more willing to swing his great knife, too, making for a more tense confrontation, and added rain gives his cadaverous skin a nice, moonlit glow. See? That's the Pyramid Head I know.

"So, we've been losing something🦂, but we are gaining something, too," Lenart said.

Silent Hill 2 remake dev says he was "afraid there might be no good way" to rebuild the classic game without "archaic solutions and mechanics."

Upon the announcement that the remake would be developed by Bloober Team, fans were understandably up in arms based on some of the studio's previous works. But here we are over two years later, and things turned out pretty well all things considered and helped 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Bloober Team redeem itself in many people's eyes (so much so that one of the remake's co-directors straight up said that the studio is 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:done making "shitty games").

Clearly the devs knew that you couldn't risk messing up one of the most iconic horror titles of all time, but the game's creative director, Mateusz Lenart, revealed at the Silent Hill 2: Remaking a Horror Icon — An Artistic Journey into Fear panel at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2025 that he initially thought there "might be no good way to create the remake for that game." Despite initial fears, the team started work and "quickly realized that we are dealing with the memory of the game, and if we want to succeed, we need to bring this memory back to the players, but not by copying what was there, but by reimagining those things for the modern era." This approach is similar to Capcom ditching the tank controls and fixed camera angles of 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Resident Evil 2 when creating the remake.

Lenart continued, "From the beginning, we knew 💛that the story of this game is the most important aspect of it, and we didn't want to change it too much. At the same time, it was clear that it would be hard to present this story in the modern era without changes in mechanics or combat." While there were some changes to the story (most notably new endings), Bloober definitely was more liberal with changing the game design. While it does follow the general formula of the original, Silent Hill 2 Remake had some big changes – with Eddie now residing in a new cinema area eating pink sludge instead of a bowling alley eating pizza at a time like this.

"One of our first decisions was to change the camera to a regular over♒-the-shoulder third-person perspective." While this may seem the obvious decision given it worked so well for Capcom, Bloober did acknowledge it has a downside: "we knew that with that change, we would lose a certain style from the original game." But in bringing the game to the modern era, you can't really leave it unchanged, with Lenart saying, "at the same time we didn't want to bring back the feeling of the nostalgia just by using archaic solutions and mechanics" (although I'd argue block-pushing puzzles are a touch archaic themselves).

Working on a remake ♒– especially of something that's so beloved – is undoubtedly daunting, given that any change often has a section of people very unhappy about it (just look at the reaction some fans had to Angela's innocuous redesign). But from Bloober's perspective, making those decisions is where things came into place, with Lenart saying, "Step by step we started to see the potential and places for improvement. And 🙈because of that, fear slowly turned into excitement." And I'd say it turned out pretty well (even if I'm still partial to the 2001 original).

The developers of Palworld were also speaking at GDC this week, with their community manager revealing that the game's massive week one numbers 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:made them "feel sick."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> A year ago today, I still held my reservations about 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill 2. The remaking of a classic survival horror game would always be mired in skepticism, mo🌌st notably from die-hard fans in their steadfast loyalty to the original, but Konami's choice in developer – Bloober Team – heaped fuel on𓃲 the fire.

In an impressivelﷺy rare reputational 180, our pervasive sentiment toward the Polish studio has shifted dramatically. Now, six months since the game launched to strikingly rave reviews from critics and fans alike, Bloober Team has revealed that it's with the Silent Hill publisher, on an as-yet unconfirmed Konami IP, and fans are absolutely hyped this time. But how did Bloober manage to pull off the redemption of a decade, and what does that mean for its fuꦅture?

If you're wondering what exactly Bloober Team did to ruffle so many feathers pre-Silent Hill, I'm here to walk you through it in broad strokes. Established in 2010, the studio experimented with a variety of genres before finding its stride in 2016's Layers of Fear. Horror seemed the perfect niche, with Layers of Fear channelling those Silent Hill P.T. vibes expertly. By the time a sequel launched in 2019, alongside movie-adjacent Blair Witch, Bloober's formula for creating atmospheric horror walking sims had been firmly established. This reputation went on to precede it, potentially casting doubt over Bloober's ability to even make a survival horror game like Silent Hill.

Specializing in a particular style of horror is not a crime against development. At the same time, Bloober had branded itself🦂 with a pattern of predictability. It tried to escape that typecasting in 2021, branching out into third-person, fixed camera angle survival horror terriಞtory with The Medium.

Unfortunately, the studio swiftly fell foul of a very different trap that had been priming the whole time. Accusations soon poured in regarding Bloober Team's heavy-handed 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:"trivialization of mental health" not only in The Medium, but Blair Witch too. This gave way to broader concerns over a perceived lack of sensitivity, specifically as it pertains to the experiences of real-life sufferers, that Bloober Team seemed unable to justify or amend going forward. Its unpredictable handling of complex themes paired with specializing in very niche horror meant that, when Konami announced it as the studio 🤡spearheading a remake of its most beloveꦕd and best Silent Hill game, the decision was a contentious one.

Games like Resident Evil - The Medium

The Medium (Image credit: Bloober Team)

Those doubts persisted throughout the 3-year production process. Despite numerous assertions from both Konami and the developer itself that they would both be staying true and respectful to the 2001 original, every gameplay reveal seemꦍed to spark further scrutiny from the community — whether for its combat, the outfit reworks, or t🦩he character models themselves.

Much as I try not to involve myself with negative discourse, I admit to being more than pleasantly surprised by my 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill 2 hands-on preview experience as a res⛄ult of being so prepared for the total opposite. The original is a game steeped in subtleties over garish shock factor, suggestible horrors outstripping the overt ones, and everything is a metaphor for something much darker and psychological – and Bloober Team hit the nail on the head. Shelving my lingering concerns over how it might handle the subject of trauma, considering Bloober's past fumbles in The Medium, I felt ready to send the studio an apology fruit basket. And I'm not the only one.

The tone of discourse flipped overnight, marking a new chapter for the beleaguered developer. Bloober Team had seemingly gone through all reputational shades in the eyes of the horror community, and had come out the other side, reforged. Maybe all the studio needed was to be taken by the hand and guided there fastidiously, with Team Silent and some solid source material as its shining North Star? That's my best bet, as it seems Konami a🐈nd Team Silent have managed to get something out of Bloober Team that it might never have accessed on its own; not through lack of skill or trying, but through being given a chance for a future beyond its troubled past.

Silent Hill 2

Bܫloober met that chance for redemption with op💖en arms, and the result speaks for itself. It takes a big person to make amends for their misgivings, and in Bloober Team's case, Silent Hill 2's success has done wonders to show how the studio has learned and grown in the years since The Medium.

With so much yet to be confirme🧔d, all we can do is marvel at how Bloober Team got here and give credit where it's due. There's no news yet on what the next Konami-Bloober team-up might be, though my hopes ꦬfor a Silent Hill 3 remake are already fired up.

Couldཧ this be the beginning of a dedicated remake series much like Capcom's own Resident Evil remakes, potentially setting a new standard for modern survival horror? Or could it be Konami's chance to dig up another gem from its past and pose a very new challenge to its Polish partners? Either way, I'm pleased to see Bloober Team living up to the potential it always had brewing – even if some of us need to own up to denying it was there from the♐ start.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> We finally got our first proper look at 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill f – after over two years of radio silence since 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill f's reveal – last week with a 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:brand new trailer dropping as part of the Silent Hill Transmission livestream. The game already looks pretty damn scary, even by Silent Hill standards, and considering it's the first game in the series to get an 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:18+ rating in Japan, as well as the fact that the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:ESRB rating🤪 mentio🏅ns the likes of "a character sawing off her own arm," "faces ripped apart," and "entrails and sinew displayed on serving platters," Silent Hill f is probably going to live up to that expectation.

But even with all of that grotesque body horror we're abou💖t to subject ourselves to, Silent Hill's spooky town series is nothing without a spooky town to wander in.

This time around – instead of Silent Hill, Maine – the game is set in the Japanese town Ebisugaoka, which is based on Kanayama, Gero in Japan's Gif♋u Prefecture.

During the Silent Hill Tr💃ansmission stream, the game's producer Motoi Okamoto recounted that the Silent Hill f team went to the real-life town to scout it out and even record sounds of day-to-day life.

But it was actually the game's writer, Ryukishi07, who wanted to bring the game to Kanayama, saying, "I chose it as the setting because you can really feel its history." He then cites i💃ts "labyrinthine alleyways" and structures that have shifted "in res💃ponse to both its residents' lifestyles and the passage of time."

And it looks like Kanayama was t🌸he perfect place to set Silent Hill f, as – following the an🅰nouncement – a fan of the series (spotted by ) to show off just how unsettling it can be.

The user says (translated by Twitter), "When I read an article about the release of the game Silent Hill F, I was surprised to hear that the scenario writer, Ryukishi07, said, 'This game is set in Kanayama Town, Gifu Prefecture,'" adding tha♌t the town is their grandmothe🍎r's hometown, while posting photos of the labyrinthine streets. "When I looked at the game screen, my usual boring walking route had turned into a disturbing and bizarre landscape."

Although Kanayama is not quite as spooky as Silent Hill, the Twitter user did share some absolutely cursed photos of the town, saying, "Even though it's not the world of Silent Hill, come to Kanayama Town, where youꦕ can take some disturbing photos."

Later on, they of a candy store in Kanayama, which could be mistaken for a real Silent Hill landmark, with handprints covering the splashed white windows. So, if you really ca𓆏n't wait to get your hands on Silent Hill f, you could always catch a flight to explore the real Ebisugaoka.

Even after creating the beloved horror manga Higurashi When They Cry, Ryukishi07 has said he wouldn't mind if Silent Hill f "was the last thing I ever wrote."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> Konami has finally given us a proper look at 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill f since it was first revealed back in late 2022 (alongside the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill 2 Remake and that rough 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill: Ascension thing), and it looks 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:frankly terrifying. The trailer itself was mainly focused on the storyline and introducing us to the new protagonist 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Hinako Shimizu, without as much as a lick of gameplay. But since this is Silent Hill, fans have combed every millisecond of footage from the and noticed a familiar call🃏back to previous entries in the series.

Towards the end of the trailer, Hinako isꦉ shown in a distressed state, with a looming thr𓄧eat approaching her. But rather than run away scared (like I will be doing when playing the game), she decides to fight, and the nearest thing to her just so happens to be a steel pipe. So while we didn’t see any of the game’s combat, we can sleep soundly knowing we’ll be able to bludgeon monsters with the series' most iconic weapon.

While a pipe seems like a standard monster-bashing tool, it’s been the go-to melee weapon of Silent Hill protagonists since the series kicked off in 1999 when Harry Mason found one in an alleyway. Since then it’s appeared in pretty much every game in the series (even the bad ones like Downpour), and Silent Hill f looks to be continuing the tradition. In fact, it seems likely that it’ll be Hinako’s main form of attack, as the game’s box art features her brandishing the blunt weapon. Time will tell if Silent Hill f will keep up the momentum of the Sile♍nt Hill 2 remake, but for now it’s looking promising.

In case you weren’t already scared enough, 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill F’s ESRB rating promises the likes of "entrails and sinew displayed on serving platters" and "a character sawing off her own arm."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill f is setting itself apart from its fog-soaked siblings with its rural Japanese locale, which was apparently chosen because producer Motoi Okamoto 💦felt the horror series was losing its distinctly Japanese edge.

While lifting the veil off of Silent Hill f, another third-person horror stuffed with psychological torment and twisted creatures,🐓 the developers also gave some insight into the༒ project's inception.

"I believe the Silent Hill series was born out of blending the essence of Japanese horror with the essence of western horror," Okamoto said during the most recent . "However, aꦛs it was based in the West for the longest time, it felt like the Japanese influence was fading. And so, this made us think, 'What if we go in the opposite dire✅ction and make it 100% Japanese horror?' And this game is the result. "

Of course, Silent Hill has predominantly been the work of Japanese developers making games set in America. But projects like Silent Hill 2 Remake and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories bucked that trend, and had western talent at the forꦐefront. Silent Hill f seems like a course correction both in-game and behind the scenes.

澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Legendary composer Akira 🔯Yamaoka is ꧋also back for the game, after having worked on every mainline title, 🅠and he agreed that "there i🧸s a certain Japanese essence to the games, something that non-Japanese people can't replicate. As Japanese creators, there are certain creative choices and expressions that come more naturally to us." He continued to say that "for people outside Japan, this adds a sense of freshness and innovation to the games."

Elsewhere, the , while explaining he wanted the new game's protagonist to have much more agency. That doesn't mean she won't still be grappling with absolute horrors, though, as Silent Hil🧸l f's ESRB rating ha♛s absolutely no chill.

Silent Hill f disclaimer is even making a horror buff like me shudder: "If you feel uncomfortable at any point while playing, please take a break"

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill f has been rated by the ESRB in the US, and the rating summary is one of the most explicit and intense💎 I've ever seen.

In case you missed it, the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:new Silent Hill f cinematic trailer gives a sneak preview of some of the abominations the hapless protagonist Hinako will have to face off against. The trailer had some of the most unsettling creatures I've ever seen in the Silent Hill series' long history, but this 🌊 suggests it was just a taster of the full meal.

It's worth noting here that some of these details are very specific and could be considered to be spoiler territory if you're wanting to go ꦉinಌ to Silent Hill f completely blind. If that's you, turn back now.

Silent Hill f

With that out of the way, here we go: the ESRB says Silent Hill f has scenes where e💙nemy attacks result in the player character "getting impaled in the neck and/or getting their faces ripped apart." Meanwhile, "cutscenes sometimes depict gore and more intense acts of violence: a character burned alive inside a cage; a woman branded by a hot iron; entrails and sinew displayed on servi🍌ng platters in fantastical celebration/ceremony; a character sawing off her own arm; a character slicing off portions of a character's face during a ritual."

It's worth noting that Silent Hill fജ was also recently rated in Japan, and it's the first game in the series' 26-year-old history to be rated 18+ in Japan. Meanwhile, its Steam disclaimer is𝄹 making even the most hardened horror hounds shudder, advising players to "please take a break" if they feel "uncomfortable" playing the game. This all suggests a darker, grittier, gorier game than the dark, gritty, and gory Silent Hi🎶ll games from 🔥the past.

Famed Higurashi When They Cry creator Ryukishi07 says he worked so hard on the Silent Hill f story that "I don't think I would mind if it was the last thing I ever wrote."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> Women in Silent Hill are smothered to death, bleeding from the waist down, and tortured by their fathers. It's not my idea of the perfect spring break, but sometimes it's unavoidable. So 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill f, the newest title in Konami's survival horror series, won't make life any easier for its female protagonist,💟 but writer Ryukishi07 at least vows to empower her.

"Up until now, I have played every Silent Hill game," says Ryukishi07, the mythic creator behind the When They Cry v🍸isual novels, in Konami's recent . "One thing I noticed is that many of the female characters are put through a great deal of suffering throughout their live𒁏s, which is why I thought, if this game is going to have a female protagonist, the𒊎n I want her to be able to make her own decisions. For better or for worse amid her struggles."

Ryukishi07 continues: 🃏"I don't want her to just be pulled along by the story, but to find her own answers. That was the kind of protagonist – or, at least, the kind of story – that 👍I wanted to create."

As a loyal Silent H❀ill fan, I'm relieved to hear this. Part of me has always been comforted by the chthonic gods and disasters that surrounded the franchise's female characters in rusted terror.

Like these girls, light and family-oriented until they got hold of knives, I feel that I've also experienced fear beyond my desire, beyond my choice. I've felt represented by 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Angela in Silent Hill 2, by Maria, by Heather Mason in Silent Hill 3 – with the𒀰m struggli𝕴ng along with me, I didn't have to be alone.

But I've also always wished that bl🐲ood-spattered sadness wasn't presented as intrinsic to womanhood, though many pieces of horror media – not jus🥀t Silent Hill – make the connection seem impossible to break.

That said, Silent Hill f ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚcan end the curse oওf expectation. I look forward to seeing what Silent Hill f's teenage protagonist Hinako Shimizu does to escape the town blooming like mold around her. With a steel pipe in her hand, anything is possible.

Silent Hill f's re-reveal trailer shows some of the freakiest monsters I've ever seen in the 25-year-old survival horror series.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill f, the latest mainline game in th꧑e series, is the first in the franchise's history to be rated 18+ in Japan, which is especially wild because they've often been ✨adult-only in the UK and US.

As reported by , Silent Hill f has been rated CERO:Z, Japan's equivalent of an 18+ rating. All of the other mainline games have🍸 been rated CERO:C in Japan, or 15+. I'm quite surprised, because I've always known the games to be absolutely terrifying so I assumed they'd also be rated for adults in Japan.

Horror movies and games from Japan are very popular all over the world, from games like Silent Hill and Resident Evil to movies like Ring and The Grudge, so maybe Japan's ratings board just has a higher tole𒉰rance for scares. Or maybe they aren't gory enough to warrant the adults-only rating. I𝔉t could be that Silent Hill f is just more violent, not necessarily scarier.

That being said, 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill f looks especially scary to me. I'm terrified of human-like monsters that move in contorted ways, and that's the first kind of creature that shows up in the game's trailer. Original series monster designer Masahiro Ito, the man who created Pyramid Head, didn't work on this game at all though. He says, "澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:I don't know anything abt Silent Hill f because I didn't work on it."

Silent hill f is also unique in its setting. It takes place in the '60s and even comes with a warning. "This game is set in Japan in the 1960s and contains depictions based on the customs and culture of that time," 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Konami's disclaimer reads. "These depictions do not reflect the opinions or values of the developers or any individuals involved." It also warns of "depictions of gender discrimination, ch𓄧ild abuse, bullying, drug-induced hallucinations, torture, and graphic violence." That 18+ rating doesn't seem so surprising anymore.

Silent Hill f writer Ryukishi07 said, "I don't think I would mind if it was the last thing I ever wrote," so t🔜his really is shaping up to be a m🐷essed-up game.

It's important to note that games can and do have their ratings changed before realease, and even after – 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:it happened with Balatro. So, there's a chanc𒉰e this rating drops if Konami🐷 appeals the decision or makes some changes to make it more suitable for a younger audience.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> Sile𝓀nt Hill🌳 is just as famous for its skin-tingling soundscape as it is for those iconic monster designs, so series enjoyers can now look forward to new music from legendary series composer Akira Yamaoka who's back in the booth for Silent Hill f.

Konami gave its upcoming Japan-set horror game the full blowout yesterday with a full trailer, 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:some of the spookiest monsters in 💞series history, a character reveal, a 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:deliciously scary disclaimer, and more.

Alongside a ton of other information, the publisher also revealed that Yamaoka is back after having written music for every single numbered Silent Hill game, a bunch of spin-offs, and countless other horror projects like 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Slitterhead, the funky horror-action game from Silent Hill's OG creator. (Plus, the likes of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners... this man's resume is extensive.)

"In terms of music, the focus was not on using classical instruments to complement the depiction ꦯof the setting or to express the 'old time' of Japan, but rather on capturing the uncanny 'humidity' and 'scent' of Japan itself," Yamaoka on social media. "That, to me, is what Silent Hill truly embodies."

"A story set not in modern Japan, but in ancient Japan," he . "While its world may feel unfamiliar, it strangely resonates with me as a Japanese person. Within that world, my own soul was nurtured, and I strong🍸ly felt how it continues to influence my creative work today."

Yamaoka joins an A-list team that also happens to include 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:famed writer Ryukishi07, who ༺proved he can do spooky and depressing in his beloved 🌞horror manga series When They Cry, alongside Dynasty Warriors composer Kensuke Inage and Silent Hill 2 Remake producer Motoi Okamoto.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> Konami yesterday pulled the curtain back on 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill f, a full-fat third-person horror game that boasts some of the freakiest monster designs in the series' 25-year hi⛦story, and its gnarly content warning is even making a💜 horror buff like me a little worried.

Silent Hill f takes the series' foggy setting and con🍸torted-limb monsters to a rural 1960s Japanese village this time, putting us in the shoes of teenager Shimizu Hinako, and the game's website goes to great lengths to remind us that some things were very different back then.

"This game is set in Japan in the 1960s and contains depictions based on the customs and culture of that time," Konami's disclaimer . "These depictions do not reflect the opinions or values of the developers or any individuals involved." Of course, some things in the w♔orld haven't simply gone away as the disclaimer also warns of "depictions of gender discrimination, child abuse, bullying, drug-induced hallucinations, torture, and graphic violence."

Things might get so grim, in fact, that Kon💖ami even says that it's really really okay if you need to take a break now and then. Turning on all the lights and running to the kitchen for some emergency coffee wouldn't make you a wimp, honest, the publisher implies. "If you feel uncomfortable at any point while playing, please take a break from playing or speak to someone you trust," are the disclaimer's exact words.

In true Silent Hill form, it seems the real horrors aren't just coming from abject designs🎐 and spooky liminal spaces. Shimizu herself is apparently a "girl struggling under the pressure of expectations from her friends, family, and society" who "now hardly smiles." Taken together with the content warnings up above, Silent Hill f will likely take a sterner look at some real-world issues, though hopefully they're tackled with the same finesse as Silent Hill 2 and not Silent Hill: The Short Message.

There's no release date for Silent Hill f, but it'll come to PC,⛦ PS5, and Xbox Series X|S when it's ready.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> Well, everyone, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill f writer Ryukishi07, who created the belove♒d horror manga series When They Cry, says he worked so hard on the upcoming survival horror video game that he doesn't care if it's the last thing he ever writes. The bad news is, well, that is also the bad news, because it pretty much confirms that Silent Hill f is going to be terribly depressing.

Whether or not that's a good or bad thing is entirely subjective of course, but for me there is a limit to how dark a horror story can be before it becomes unpleasant to experience. It's a forgiving limit, with deepl𝓡y upsetting games like The Last of Us 2 and Silent Hill 2 being some of my favorite ever, but it's there. As for Ryukishi07's work, let's just say the When They Cry series approaches that limit very closely.

Anyway, Ryukishi07 had this to say about writing the story for Silent Hill f: "To this day, I remember the feeling of my first encounter with the strangling and oppressive atmosphere of Silent Hill. It still deeply🍎 haunts me, and it still utterly fascinates me✅. It's an honor to find myself involved with a series I have so many memories with. I've poured all my efforts into this story, so much so that I don't think I would mind if it was the last thing I ever wrote."

Ryukishi07 is an acclaimed horror writer no doubt, but his body of work is a little inconsistent, so despite my fear t🎃hat I'm going to leave Silent Hill f severely depress🧔ed, it is definitely encouraging to hear him speak so passionately about the game.

Speaking of which, check out Silent Hill f's new trailer, which sadly doesn't include any gameplay but does boast some of the freakiest monsters I've ever seen.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> Silent Hill f, the next mainline installment in the s♔eries, has a new Japanese langua🌃ge cinematic trailer that truly shows some of the most abhorrent creature designs I've ever seen.

I'll be honest, I was fully expecting to see just a little bit of gameplay since it's been more than two years since the Silent Hill 𝕴f announcement, and at first, I was a little disappointed, but after seeing some of the monsters that our new and unfortunate protagonist Hinako will have to contend with, I'm overall pretty satisfied with today's trailer. It's also cool seeing more of Ebisugaoka, the fictional 1960s-era Japanese town that's the main setting of the game.

Yo𓆉u can see the new trailer♊ for yourself right here:

Silent Hill f is the next mainline installment in the beloved survival horror series. It's been a little more than two years since it was announced, and until now, we hadn't seen or heard anything about it since that announcement. The game tells a completely new story seemingly unconnected to the other games in🌌 the series, and starring brand new characters. The sto🍌ry's being written by Ryukishi07, the acclaimed horror artist and writing savant behind the When They Cry manga and anime series, which includes Higurashi When They Cry, Umineko When They Cry, and Ciconia When They Cry.

You can now. It'sꦚ also coming to P🍷S5, Xbox Series X/S, and the Epic Games Store. There's still no release date.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> Konami is revealing more about Silಌent Hill F this week.

It's been a little more than two years since Konami revealed Silent Hill F, the next mainline installment in the beloved survival horror series, and we haven't heard a peep out of the studio since. In-between then and now, we've seen the release of the free, bite-sized, and ultimately underwhelming 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill: The Short Message, as well as the absolutely wonderful 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill 2 Remake. Now, we're finally aಞbout to learn more about th⭕e broader direction Konami is taking the mainline series.

In a brief post on , Kona🦄mi revealed that a new Silent Hill Transmission stream is airing March 13 at 3pm PDT and that it'll "uncover SILENT HILL f." That sounds to me like the game is getting a full-blown reveal trailer, possibly with some gameplay, but the wording is ambiguous. There's no word on how long the stream will last, but Konami says to "watch this space" for the streaming link.

Silent Hill F is billed as "an entirely new story" set in 1960s Japan,ꦐ and there's reason to be excited for it. It's being written by acclaimed visual novelist Ryukishi07, a horror artist and writing savant best known as creator of the When They Cry manga and anime series, which includes Higurashi When They Cry, Umineko When They Cry, and Ciconia When They Cry. <![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> Subnautica 2 is heading our way in early access this 2025, and we couldn't be more excited! Developed by Unknown Worlds, this is technically the third game in the hit survival series, following on from the success of Subnautica and 2021's Subnautica: Below Zeಞro. Just like its predecessors, we'll be thrown into the dark waters of an alien planet, where we'll have to navigate dangerous seas filled with massive predators and work to survive.

First teased back in 2024, we've learned a ton of details that prove that our patience will be rewarded with one of the most innovative and massive games in this already iconic series. Not only are we getting the typical gameplay features that have made the Subnautica outings some of the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best survival games around, but we are also getting brand-new Leviathans, vehicles, and multiplayer for the first time ever! So yeah, needless to say, Subnautica 2 is one of the biggest 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:new games for 2025.

So buckꦜle up and get your scanner ready becaus🅷e below we've got all the information that you need to know. From a potential Subnautica 2 release date, gameplay details, trailers, and more, you'll find all the latest news here.

Subnautica 2 release date speculation

Currently, Subnautica 2 is expected to release in Early Access sometime in 2025. This news came our way during the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:October 2024 Xbox Partner Showcase, along with a new trailer for the upcoming game.

Currently, you can wishlist the game already, so you can head on over to your platform of choice to track the new underwater adventure. We also recently got our first Subnautica 2 Dev Vlog, which reaffirmed that the 2025 release window for Early Access is still very much a thing despite the ꦫmonths of silence that we've had since the trailer first dropped. You can watch the vlog for yourself down below.

In the clip, we learn that the game is considered to be the team's "biggest" and🅠 "most ambitious Subnautica game" yet. Players are invited ♍to provide feedback once they get their hands on the game, as development is planned to continue during the Early Access period as well.

It's all very exciting, and from the sounds of it, we are only a few months away from getting our hands on this one. In the meantime, you can also read our 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Subnautica review if you want a recap of the first alien outing.

Subnautica 2 platforms

Subnautica 2 is set to arrive on PC and Xbox Series X/S once it launches in Early Access sometime this year.

Sadly, there's no news on any PS5 or Switch support just yet, and the recent Switch 2 Direct didn't confirm if its set to come to the new-gen console among the lineup of 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:upcoming Switch 2 games. However, that doesn't meaꦏn that we'll never see the title on those platforms in the future.

The first Subnautica became available on both PS5 and Nintendo Switch eventually. And since both also support Unreal Engine 5 (which Subnautica 2 is being developed with), there's still hope for a future announcement regarding additional platforms for the new game. Stay tuned for u🐽pdates!

Subnautica 2 trailer

So far, the only thing we've had ⛄in the way of a Subnautica 2 trailer is a shor✱t teaser that was revealed during the October 2024 Xbox Partner Showcase.

In the clip above we see two humans in the deep – reminding us all that the new game w♓ill be multiplayer! The clip also shows off a player piloting what looks to be a Prawn Suit. Finally, we also see what looks to be a new Leviathan as a large tentacle monster with a purple glowing head revealed itself towards the end of the teaser.

Hopefully, we get a full trailer soon, but for now, this teaser definitely sets the mood and reminds us all how Subnautica isn't just a survival game, it's also one of the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best horror games ever made.

Subnautica 2 story and setting

A lone diver caught in the headlights of an underwater machine during the Subnautica 2 trailer.

In Subnautica 2, you'll be exploring a new ocean-based alien world and folꦕlowing a brand-new story. According to a descr🔴iption on the for the game, you'll play as a "pioneer traveling to a distant world." However, soon, you find that something is very wrong after your ship's AI starts insisting that you carry on a mysterious mission.

It turns out that t🌳his new world is too dangerous for humans to survive in, so you'll have to "change what it means to be human." That statement sounds pretty ominous if you ask us, and considering how the first Subnautica had you infected with an alien virus and Subnautica: Below Zero has you sharing a brain with an alien AI until you build it a new body, we aren't surprised that something will likely be messing about with your human body or DNA in Subnautica 2.

Subnautica 2 gameplay

An image of a player scanning an alien fish during the new game Subnautica 2.

Like the rest of the Subnautica games, Subnautica 2 will be a survival game where you'll have to explore the depth🔜s of an alien ocean, gather material, craft upgrades, and try to survive. You'll be scanning ruins to unlock new vehicles and other equipment to assist in managing your needs, as well as to help you progress further into the deep.

Subnautica 2 will have a story that you'll be following as you build up yoꦗur underwater base and try to avoid all the monstrous Leviathan creatures eyeing you like a tasty snack. While we don't know much♔ about the story yet, we do know that it will involve your human DNA and possibly finding secrets that can help you alter it in order to survive in harsh alien waters. We'll keep you posted as more details about this new story and its potential impact on gameplay mechanics head our way.

According to the description of Subnautica 2, exploration will also be a key part of the upcoming game as you'll be uncovering and logging new "diverse biomes" and creatures. Through scanning the terrain and animals around you, you'll find information to assist yo🍸u in the story, as well as goals for upgrades that can help you expand or customise your underwater bases. The building system of Subnautica has reportedly gone through a massive overhaul, so expect base building to be a bigger star in the new game too.

A big new gameplay feature for Subnautica 2 is the fact that it will feature co-op. Previous entries in the series have all been single-player affairs, throwing us into a foreign ocean all by ou𓂃r lonesome. In the upcoming ti🔯tle, there will be up to four-player cooperative gameplay for you and a group of buddies. So, if you are afraid of the deep, now is the perfect time to grab a group of mates and force them to play Subnautica with you for support.

Will Subnautica 2 be multiplayer?

A screenshot of a player swimming while another player is out in front during the new game Subnautica 2.

Yes! For the first time in Subnautica history we are getting the option to play with our friends in Subnautica 2. The upcoming game will support up to four player co-op and cross play has also been confirmed. That means that PC and Xbox players will be able to game toget🔜her without a care in the world… well apartꦫ from surviving multiple Leviathans, maybe.

In the trailer we saw two survivors swimming together on the new alien planet. However, we haven't seen any clips of actual co-op gameplay just yet. We don't know how multiplayer is being implemented exactly or what it will look like in Subnautica 2, so keep your eyes on thꦓis page as we update you with more details soon.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> I did it, folks. I 🐽managed to beat the , a survival horror game inspired by Resident Evil and Silent Hill, and I am pleased to report that it bangs despite its brutal puzzles.

I won't lie, I came very close to not being able to write this article because I struggled so much with the first puzzle in the demo, which I ended up brute-forcing my way through after multiple failed attempts. Granted, I'm on the clock here and don't have all day to look for clues, but I'd still say the puzzleꦑs I encountered in the Post Trauma demo rival some of the toughest Resident Evil and Silent Hill puzzles I've ever seen. There's one in particular toward the end of the demo involving a circuit board that just about drove me mad, but thankfully I was able to work through that one and complete the demo.

If you like tricky puzzles, this is probably music to your ears, but if you're a big ol' goober like me you might be turned off by what I'm writing. But trust me, if you're a fan of the survival horror classics and you're alright with fixed-camera, Post Trꦅauma is well worth your time. And no, it's not another one of those PS1-looking indies that seem to be cropping up everywhere, and which vary dramatically in quality in my experience; Post Trauma bills itself as "a modern interpretation" of its inspirations.

It's also completely distinct thematically, tonally, visually, musically - it's really very much doing its own thing despite working with such a well-worn foundation. You play as a middle-aged train conductor named Roman who wakes up from a panic attack to find himself in the nightmare-inducing alternate dimension where the game takes place. The demo is the first we've seen of the beginning of the game, right wh🐻en Roman wakes up in an abandoned train with all sorts of reasons to leave. First off, there's blood everywhere, and w🐭orse yet there are creepy mannequins whose eyes move to follow you. Unfortunately, the train's exist is locked behind a padlock and you have to explore the whole thing to find the solution, if you're savvy enough to do so that is.

Post Trauma

I didn't get to see much of the "unspeakable nightmares" developer Red Soul Games teases in the game's Steam description, but I did beat down some sort of humanoid monster who appeared to have been ripped right in half but inexplicably had the vigor to almost kill me. 💙That was definitely a pretty tense struggle, but I'm excited to see more of the really depraved stuff like what's seen in the image at the top of this article, which I pulled from the trailer.

Visually, the vibes are there. I real🌟ly dig that the game seems to at least partly be based in Japan as opposed to the small town American locales you usually see in Silent Hill, Resident Evil, and their ilk. But musically, y'all, I'm telling you, even if you don't play this demo and have no plans of ever playing Post Trauma, at least do yourself a favor and check out the , which was composed by . It's beautiful, haunting, and evocative in a way that seems totally unique to survival horror games of yesteryear.

Again, I've only played 30 minutes of this demo and about the same in an earlier demo that took me through a different part of the game, but I'm highly encouraged by what I've seen. The puzzles have oodles of depth and, so far, variety, the atmosphere is tense and foreboding, the controls (tank optional) are smooth and intuitive, the story is intriguing, the monsters loo🍎k freaky as hell, and yeah, that music... that music. Post Trauma's ticking a whole lotta boxes in a short amount of time, and I'll be waiting for the full game's release on March 31.

The scariest horror game I've played in 2025 is a Steam Next Fest demo that triggers my thalassophobia even more than Subnautica.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> Following the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill 2 remake's success with longtime fans of Konami's original horror masterpiece and ☂newcomers alike, developer Bl🦹oober Team announces its collaboration with the Japanese studio on yet another project.

The of Bloober's continued partnership with Konami arrived earlier today, coming four months after the Silent Hill 2 remake's long-awaited release. According to the Polish studio, the decision to keep collaborating was sparked by "trust built upon the success of Silent Hill 2," with a new agreement between the𝓰 two companies in place now for another joint project. There's no telling what that project is just yet, however.

Bloober CEO Piotr Babieno teases something "truly special" in the future, though, but first looks back at the team's partnership on Silent Hill 2. "Our collaboration with Konami has been incredibly fruitful, and the success of Silent Hill 2 speaks for itself," he writes. "By sharing knowledge and experience, we have been able to create high-quality production together." 🍰The lead then looks ahead to the studios' coming work.

"Of course, we can't reveal too many details at this time, but we are confident that fans will be just as excited about our collaboration as we are," states Babieno. "We can't wait to share something truly special with players when the time is right." As a fan of🌺 the Silent Hill 2 remake🌱 myself, this feels like massive news – after all, there are still a few other entries in the legendary horror series without any remasters or revamps.

Bloober explained in the past that it didn't start with the OG Silent Hill because "the franchise is connected to Konami's plans" – but there's no way of knowing whether that means the first game will never be remade or if Bloober is now a part of those cryptic "plans" from Konami.꧋ I won't hold my breath until the companies share more about their mysterious new project, but the continued collaboration is an exciting development, ꦓto say the least.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> Resident Evil 5 just got an ESRB rating for Xbox Series X|S, and just a coupl🍷e of weeks after a similar rating cropped up for Resident Evil 6, fans are struggling to figꦇure out just what the heck Capcom has in mind.

A new was noted by Wario64 on earlier today, and curiouꦇsly, this rating is only for Xbox Series consoles. The content description is quite similar to that of , though the text is slightly different, just as it subtly changed between the original PS3/Xbox 360 release, the later Gold Edition, and the PS4/Xbox One port.

What's odd here is that this Resident Evil 5 rating is, again, only for Xbox Series consoles, just like the Resident Evil 6 rating that . In a world where publishe𝓡rs like Square Enix are embracing multiplatfor𝕴m releases - and heck, even 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Xbox itself is doing the same - what sort of Resident Ev🍷il rerelease ♋might only come to Xbox Series consoles?

It's certainly possible that the PS5 and/or other version🅰s of these games just haven't been rated yet, but we're still left to wonder just what these implied new versions actually are. If Capcom continues its trend of remaking numbered entries in the Resident Evil series, 5 would be next in line, but it seems exceedingly unlikely that they'd let a full-on remake be outed by an ESRB rating.

The smart money is on🌄 remasters or current-gen patches for RE5 and 6, but 𒐪exactly which platforms these games come to remains to be seen.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> Capcom is deli𝓀sting and shutting down the disappointing Resident Ev🎶il deathmatch spin-off.

The publisher announced that its multiplayer shooter Resident Evil Re:Verse, which let you pit fan-favorites like Jill Sandwich and Leon Kennedy against each other in iconic locations, will go offline on June 29 at 23:59 PT (that's June 30 at 02:59 ET, or 07:59 GMT). That means you won't be able 🦋to play the game after that date, and any in-game goodies you spent real-world money on will simply disappear.

Resident Evil Re:Verse served as a competitive multiplayer shooter to celebrate the series' quarter century milestone, packing in a bunch of familiar characters, locations, and monsters on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, P𒁃S5, and PS4. It was available as both a standalone purchase and given away with Resident Evil Village, but you won't be able to buy the game or any of its DLCs after March 3. Again, it's essentially being deleted from existence and completely removed from storefronts. Any existing download codes will still work until the end of service, but new ones won't be included with Village from now on.

Capcom the game was "developed in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Resident Evil series, and your overwhelming support for the game has far exceeded our expectations since the time of its release." According to the company, the game's only being killed because "we've reached a new turning point for the series" and Re:Verse has apparently "served its original, celebratory purpose admirably" - not because it and the fans that did check it out🌳 left mostly negative reviews on .

To say Resident Evil Re:Verse was disliked by most of the fandom would be generous. The reaction was mostly apathetic. But those who did dip their toes into its blood-soaked maps complained about a lack of meaningful modes or content, dodgy servers, and aggressive microtransactions. To see any game simply disappear is sad from a game preservation standpoint, but it stings extra hard in this case since Capcom is seemingly not refunding players for in-game purchases or allowing them to use their purchased content to play offline, as is the case for 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:MultiVersus' upcoming shutdown.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Resident Evil 2 speedrunners are absolutely shattering all of the game's fastest world records now that a game-changing mo🐻d lets you instantly skip all cuts✤cenes and door animations.

The , courtesy of Resevilnemesis30, does pretty much exactly what it says on the tin: every single cutscene in the game, no matter how small, can be skipped using the main action button, and the little animations that play when you interact with doors are instantly skipped. It's pretty easy to see ꦛhow this paves the way for significantly more seamless speedruns and, of course, n♕ew records.

"Begon🌟e, doors! Begone cutscenes! 27 years later, this mod for the Sourcenext version brings the single most needed QoL feature for the vanilla game," the modder says. "It allows you to finally enjoy your favorite game without having to see yo༒ur RTX 6090 struggle with a 200kb file, or watching Annette and Irons narrate their dramatic childhood."

The mod was only uploaded aꦬround a week ago, and we're already seeing the fastest Resident Evil 2 play times ever recorded be more than halved by players using the new mod. Over on , Resident Evil 2 speedruns are now broken down into two categories: Vanilla and Cutscene Skip, and at the time of writing, the fastest Vanilla run is 48m 32s and the quickest Cutscene Skip run is just 19m 39s. For a game that's now, somehow, 27 years old, that's an extremely significant de🧔velopment in the speedrunning scene and will likely be the biggest advancement to arrive for years to come.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> A Resident Evil reboot movie is in the works from Zach Cregger, the writer and director behind the 2022 hor🐬ror sensation Barbarian.

Per , Cregger's involvement has sparked a bidding war between four companies, including Netflix and Warner Bros., for the Resident Evil reboot's distribution rights. Cregger🍌, who's both writing and directing the project, is a hot commodity after success🐷fully transitioning from comedy to horror with Barbarian.

Constantin Film, the production company behind all of the Resident Evil movies including 2021's Resident Evil: Welcome to𓄧 Raccoon City, is back for the reboot alongside PlaySta♑tion Productions.

Although 🐼the Resident Evil IP has yet to produce a financially unsuccessful movie, THR reports that it's Cregger's involvement specifically that's enticing to bidders.

What makes me personally excited about Cregger's involvement is two-fold: Barbarian is a wild good time that manages to be scary and funny in near-equal measure, and also, THR describes his Resident Evil reboot as "a revamp that will take the title to its horror roots and b⛄e more faithfu꧑l to the initial games." Heck. Yes.

All seven movies released since the original Resident Evil in 2002 have been action-horror movies with the emphasis on action. I've always felt the Res🌃ident Evil games were at their best when they were focused on the scares, and it sounds like this new reboot will capitalize on that.

Here's hoping this next Resident Evil flick joins the ranks of the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best video game movies, but I'm getting ahead of myself.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> I'll never understand humanity's desperation to invent new forms of pain. As if our bodies' natural inclination toward heartburn and broken bones wasn't enough, we had to go out of our way to create bombs, nailguns, and, in one YouTuber's case, Five Nights at Freddy's laxative challenge🐈 runs.

"There's a ton of different speedrun categories," Wigglesworth says . "All are very cool, but I want to push the limits of the🌳 s🎃peedrunning world by introducing my own category dubbed laxative%, wherein you must consume a copious amount of laxatives."

"The one and only rule o൲f the category," he continues, "is, if you explode, you lose."

But don't dwell on the laxative runs – or laxative runs, as it were – because there's more. 's YouTube channel is a vortex of suffering. He almost exclusively plays 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach, the 2021 survival horror spin-off about a child trapped in Freddy's Pizzaplex murder emporium with evil animatronics, like an alligator 🐼with a mohawk named Monty.

"There's so many Monties," Wigglesworth cries during a in which enemies can be randomized and he chose to, in additio🌄n, electrocute himself with a $244 shock collar for Saint Bernards every time he died.

While playing Security Breach – which I can further describe in no other way than it looks how beef jerky tastes – Wigglesworth has also attempted EggRoulette%, for which he crushe🅘d raw and boiled eggs into his mouth, GivingBirth%, where he was glued to a labor pain simulator, and ExplodingHead%, when he tried to find out how many rubber bands it would take to pop his head like bubblegum.

Through it all, Mr. Wigglesworth has become my unlikely, favorite speedrunner, a sadistic impulse I owe to my ranking both Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Jackass as five-star cinema. Why do we subject ourselves to so much pain? Of course, it's to feel something, and to play Five Nights𒁏 at Freddy's.

Ahead of Five Nights At Freddy's 2, star Matthew Lillard talks reprising the role of supervillain William Afton after "being left out of many a sequel."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> More than two years on from its reveal, Silent Hill f has finally resurfaced after being rated in South Korea along with 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, which 🐭could suggest it's further along than we might have expected.

You'd be forgiven if you'd forgotten all about Silent Hill f. The mysterious game – which is being written by the creator of the Higurashi When They Cry visual novel series, Ryukishi07 – is set in 1960s Japan, but after its 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:reveal in October 2022, news has been (fittingly) silent. With no rough release window or even any known release platforms, Silent Hill f has remained an enigma, but its new rating seems to prove it's still alive and kick♌ing.

🍬As , Silent Hill f was last month. A list published by the content rating board showing December's ratings reveals that the rating was applied for on December 4, before being issued on 𓆏December 12. As for the rating itself, Google and DeepL translations suggest that the game isn't suitable for children, which, uh, is to be expected given the series' history.

While the rating doesn't give much away, the fact that 𝔉it's being rated at all could suggest that it's not a massive way away🧸 from being released, but that remains to be seen. Silent Hill f isn't the only interesting name in the ratings list, of course, with Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 applied for a bit later in the month, and its rating (which appears to be the same as Silent Hill f's) issued on December 26.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is in a slightly different boat to Silent Hill f, simply since more information about it was already available, including the fact that it's set to be released in the first half of this year. It was actua🎉lly supposed to launch sooner, but has been hit with multiple delays – the latest pushed 💮it back from its planned fall 2024 release window. Needless to say, the action RPG getting a rating is more of an expectation at this point than a complete surprise, but it's still a promising sign for the game – hopefully we'll find out soon when exactly we can get our hands on it.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]> One man, his guilt, and a foggy town; in many ways, Silent Hill: Downpour finishes our retrospective of this era of Western-developed Silent Hill precisely where 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill 2 started us off. Developed in Brno in the Czech Republic by Vatr꧋a Games, Downpour tells the story of Murphy Pendleton, a convicted criminal who ends up on the lam in Silent Hill. Tormented by visions of his past and relentlessly pursued by corrections officer Anne Cunningham, Murphy soon learns that prison is less of a hell than the one he now finds h▨imself in.

Early ideas, such as introducing co-op with Anne or a Fitbit-like heart monitor, shook up the Silent Hill formula. But in the 💟end Silent Hill 2 provided the light the team set out to follow. "From the beginning we knew we wanted to play with the idea of the town itself being the main antagonist," says pro♑ducer Devin Shatsky.

"I was a huge f🐈an of Silent Hill 2, and it was pretty clear that it was the consensus favourite among fans as well. I believe a big part of that is because – as opposed to the original Silent Hill, where the monsters and environments were real, and everybody can see what's happening – in Silent Hill 2 the town draws upon the psyche of its visitors and ultimately forms alternative versions of itself, which differs depending on the characters."

While the game retains the town's signature fog, it's augmented by a rain that forms the game's namesake.𝓀 The dynamic heavy showers herald the arrival of more numerous and aggressive monsters. It has a semi-open world structure – optional side-quests lie off the beaten track, while the linear chapters take place in hitherto-unseen areas. These include an abandoned mine, the Devil's Pit, and an impressive building home to the local radio station. It's a very different Silent Hill, informed by the culture of the Czech Republic.

Something new

"In the early versions of the game I saw, it felt like the team were just trying to copy Japanese horror," recalls design director Brian Gomez. 'But when we were in Brno, Tomm and Devin and I would go looking around the town at lunchtime, and it was a beautiful country, but it's also really scary. It's got this Gothic architecture mixed in with Soviet-era concrete brutalism and remnants of a big military-industrial complex from World War 2. I remember having a creative meeting with the team and telling them to stop trying to be Japanese scary, and just be Czech scary. Let's lean into that. So there's bits of 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Silent Hill: Downpour where it's more closely m🎃odelled on the streets🏅 of Brno than a town in the midwest US."

Intended as something of a mid-point between Shattered Memories' dodge-and-run activity 🔜and Homecoming's more action-oriented approach, Downpour's combat primarily revolves around picking up objects in the environment and using them as makeshift weapons (which are once again breakable). While it all looks good on paper, the system is clunky, and – by the developer's own admission, the weakest gameplay feature in Downpour.

A hulking enemy approaches Murphy from behind as he readies a pickaxe in Silent Hill: Downpour

While this is forgivable, given that combat has never been a highlight of Silent Hill, less so are the lacklustre enemies. ♉Compared to the macabre beauty of Masahiro Ito's creations, Downpour's monsters are somewhat uninspired, using straightforwardly humanoid shapes and clichés like gas masks and dolls.

"I don't mean to talk trash about Devin, but you could kind of tell what he was watching in his hotel at night based on the ideas that he brought in the next day," laughs Gomez. "There were inspirations like Walter White from 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Breaking Bad and Pris from Blade Runner – jusꦇt these random designs that he kind of imposed on the design team."

Despite these shortcomings, Downpour was a spirited attempt by a small team to take what worked with Silent Hill and do something new and fresh with it. The game would be the last entry in the series for over a decade, barring the lamentably cancelled PT (though the less♉ said about that tragedy, the better).

In the town of Silent Hill, you never know what's quite around the corner. And while all four of these Western-developed titles have been mixed bags, they've kept the town alive, c🌜ontinuing to lay foundations for what Silent Hill can become in the future. Welcome home – you never really left.

This feature originally appeared in PLAY Magazine – 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:which printed its final issue in 2024. Silent Hill: Downpour wasn't the first in the series to jump to HD. "At the time survival horror was changing. 'How action-oriented do we get?'": 16 years on, Tomm Hulett reflects on Silent Hill: Homecoming

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Survival-horror ]]>

The first full trailer for Sony Pictures' Until Dawn movie is here, and it's a gruesome murderfest centered around a time-twisting 🌟m🌊ystery.

Fans of Supermassive Games' hugely popular original have been wondering how the film would incorporate its "choose your fate" mechanics, which see the players' run-through determi🦹ned by certain decisions they make along the way. Well, now we know: it's taking inspiration from the likes of Final Destination and Happy Death Day to present a slasher that's centered on a time loop.

"One year after her sister Melanie mysteriously disappeared, Clover and herꦆ friends head into the remote valley where she vanished in search of answers," the official synopsis reads. "Exploring an abandoned visitor center, they find themselves stalked by a masked killer and horrifically murdered one by one… only to wake up and find themselves back at the beginning of the same evening.

"Trapped in the valley, they’re forced to relive the nightmare again and again – only each time the killer threat is different, each more ꧃terrifying than the last. Hope dwindling, the group soon realizes they have a limited number of deaths left, and the only way to escape is to survive until dawn."

Judging by the promo, which yo𝄹u can watch above, said threats have been lifted straight from the source material, including the Psycho and the Flamethrower Guℱy, as well as the dreaded wendigo.

Lights Out' David F. Sandberg directs, working from a screenplay by Annabel𓆏le's Gary Dauberman. As for the cast, Maia Mitchell and Ella Rubin play Melanie and Clover respectively, with Michael Cimino, Ji-young ꦇYoo, Belmont Cameli, and Odessa A'zion rounding out the supporting players. Peter Stormare reprises his role as Doctor Hill from the game.

Until Dawn releases in theaters on April 25. For more, check out our guide to the most exciting 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:upcoming horror movies heading our way, or the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best video game movies.
