The first trailer for Materialists has finally arrived, and it looks ๊like an ode to classic rom-coms of the '90s and '00s.

Written and directed by Past Lives helmer Celine Song, the movie follows matchmaker Lucy, played by Madame Web star Dakota Johnson, whose services are highly sought 💦after by New York City's elites. However, her expertise isn't as easily translated to her own love life when she finds herself torn between her perfect match and her less-than-perfect ex.

We see her intera🃏cting with both, played by Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal, in the first trailer. The steamy clip harks back to classic rom-coms𓃲 of years past as Lucy is pulled between two men. "Lucy M., the eternal bachelorette," she's called by one of her pals before she reveals she's responsible for nine marriages – but will she find her own match by the movie's conclusion?

The cast also includes The Umbrella Academy's Marin Ireland, Succession's Zoë Winters, and The Gilded Age's Louise Jacobson in s🥃upporting roles.

Song's debut feature film, the romantic drama Past Lives, was nominated for Best Picture at last year's Academy Awards, and Sonꦇg was also up for Best Director. The film starred Greta Lee and Teo Yoo as childhood sweethearts Nora and Hae Sung who reunite after 20 years after losing touch once Nora's family immigrates from South Korea to Canada.

The Materialists is set to arrive in theaters on June 13. While we wait, check out our guide to this year's other best upcoming movies and 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:2025 movie release dates.

The first trailer for roꦿm-com sequel Bridget Jon𓃲es: Mad About the Boy is finally here, and it promises more love life-related chaos for the diary-writing dreamer.

The promo opens with Renée Zellweger's Bridget meeting up with Colin Firth's Mark Darcy pre-dinner party. The loved-u🔯p pair grin at one another as they shimmer up to someone's home, as a voiceover tells us: "There are memories that will never leave us, but so🔥metimes, those memories are suddenly all we're left with."

With that, her pal opens his front door to find Bridget standing on the porch alone, confirming in one heartbreaking shot that the film is set to follow Helen Fielding's 2013 novel closely, in which mo🤪ther-of-two Bridget is forced back into singledom following Mark's tragic death four years ago.

Fortunately, the rest is a lot lighter, as we see Bridge signing up to Tinder, flirting with her daughter's teacher, Mr. Wallaker (澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Doctor Strange's Chiwetel Ejiofor) and 29-year-old park ranger Roxton (Th🏅e White Lotus's Leo Woodall), and cat🅠ching up with her foul-mouthed friends Shazzer (Sally Phillips), Jude (Shirley Henderson), and Tom (James Callis). Watch it above.

Michael Morris, whose previous works include Better Call Saul and the Oscar-nom♊inated drama To Leslie, directs. Jim Broadbent, Emma Thompson, and Hugh Grant, who's🅺 back as the relentlessly crude Daniel Cleaver, round out the supporting cast.

"You're effectively a nun," he purrs at her in one scene. "A very, very naughty nun."☂ It's good to know some things never change...

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy releases in UK theaters and on Peacock in the US on February 13, 2025. For more 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:upcoming films in the meantime, check out our guide to 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:2024 movie release dates.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> If you had the means to travel in time, where would you go? The past, or the future? For so long, filmmakers have wondered this same question, with more time travel movies than you can count. At least some of them happen to be - ahem, timeless classics.

While time travel has existed in the human imagination for centuries, with examples found in Hindu and Islamic mythologies, our modern understanding of time travel begins with early science fiction tales. Stories like The Year 2440 by French author Louis-Sébastien Mercier, Looking Backward by Edward Bellamy, and The Time Machine by H.G. We💎lls are some of the earliest and most popular uses of time travel in sci-fi.

It should be no surprise that as soon as humans invented moving pictures, time travel became a recurring genre. (This is not to be confused with time loop movies, in which stories involve a set and finite time frame that "loop🐭" back and start all over again.) Whether it's to prevent catastrophes or just fall in love, filmmakers have obsessed over time travel as a story device to explore what it really means to be human. With so many time travel movies to choose from, here are 🐓32 of the greatest time travel movies ever made.

32. The Time Machine (1960)

The Time Machine

It s🌊hould be no surprise that the first feature film adaptation of H.G. Wells' seminal science fiction novella The Time Machine also qualifies as one of the best time travel movies ever made. Rod Taylor stars as a scientist inventor, also named "H. George Wells," whose invention of a time machine flings him to Earth's distant future where he sees mankind split between peaceful, gentle Eloi and the predatory Morlocks who feed on them. Though its primitive effects may be hard on modern eyes, George Pal's movie splits the difference between pulp slop and old-school magnificence.

31. Timecop (1994)

Timecop

It's not saying much that Timecop, an adaptation of comic strips published by Dark Horse, is one of the best movies starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. But JCVD is in top form in Peter Hyams' corny '90s gem. Van Damme stars as a police officer in the Time Enforcement Commission who must stop a corrupt politician (played by Ron Silver) from influencing the past for personal gain. Although Timecop's comic book-y premise and wham-bam filmmaking renders it indistinguishable from other Van Damme flicks, it alꦅso happens to feature one of Van Damme's finest performances.

30. The Time Traveler's Wife (2009)

The Time Traveler's Wife

Based on Audrey Niffenegger's hit debut novel, The Time Traveler's Wife stars Rachel McAdams as the wife of a Chicago librarian (Eric Bana) who suffers from a genetic disorder that causes him to spontaneously travel through time, making a stable life in the present difficult to maintain. Written by Niffenegger as an elaborate metaphor on her failed relationships, the sentimental and sappy movie version - from director Rob✤ert Schwentke - efficiently captures that painful desire to stay still in a life that pulls us apart.

29. Déjà Vu (2006)

Deja Vu

(Image credit: Buena Vista Pictures Distribution)

In their third collaboration together, actor Denzel Washington and director Tony Scott teamed up for the time travel thriller Déjà Vu. Washington plays a special agent wh🅰o goes back in time to prevent a terrorist attack in New Orleans. While doing so, he falls in love with a beautiful victim (Paula Patton) and becomes determined to save her. While Déjà Vu isn't the best movie by Scott nor even the best from Scott and Washington's creative tag-teaming, it's still a gritty action thriller with a novel science fiction bent.

28. Safety Not Guaranteed (2012)

Safety Not Guaranteed

While it may feel too "Tumblr twee" for some, Colin Trevorrow's Safety Not Guaranteed is an emotional comedy-drama about⛎ having trust in the impossible. A group of magazine journalists (played by Aubrey Plaza, Jake Johnston, and Karan Soni) investigate a curious classified ad that promises a time travel adventure; Mark Duplass plays the socially awkward grocery clerk who placed the ad, claiming to have a time machine. Safety Not Guaranteed notably launched Trevorrow into the realm of big budget blockbusters, with the director landing the gig of helming Jurassic World shortly after and, for a time, attached to the coveted ninth Star Wars movie. Safety Not Guaranteed is small fries in comparison, but the movie's flightful sensibilities showed what Trevorrow was capable of.

27. Donnie Darko (2001)

Donnie Darko

It's a bit of a spoiler to detail exactly how time travel factors into Richard Kelly's morbid teen drama Donnie Darko. But in its tale about a troubled suburban♈ teenager (Jake Gyllenhaal) who receives cryptic psychic messages from an ominous figure in a scary bunny costume, Donnie Darko explores adolescence as a vehicle to meditate on the nature of reality. Years later, Donnie Darko remains a cult classic, not only for its dark and cerebral tone and surprisingly star-studded cast, but for its enthralling portrait of teenage angst and depression through the lens of science fiction and comic book tropes.

26. Star Trek (2009)

Star Trek

In this modern reboot of the classic 1960s sci-fi television saga, the past and present collide in unexpected ways when villainous Romulans (led by Eric Bana) are flung to Starfleet past, changing the course of Star Trek history forever. As the starting point for what has been called the "Kelvin Timeline" - an alternate timeline diverting from original Star Trek canon - J.J. Abrams' Star Trek satisfies fans both new and old with a zippy, crowd-pleasing blockbuster that 🎃is secretly about the burdens of history and legacy and the virtues of pursuing one's own path.

25. Midnight in Paris (2011)

Midnight in Paris

Leave it to Woody Allen to create a time travel movie that isn't about aliens or A.I., but hanging out with famous literary icons. Owen Wilson stars as a dissatisfied screenwriter who, while on a trip to Paris with his fiance (Rachel McAdams), finds himself able to travel to 1920s Paris, meeting the likes of F. Scott Fit🌃zgerald and befriending Ernest Hemingway. After a long period of movies that failed to live up to his established reputation, Allen enjoyed a brief career resurgence with his critically acclaimed Midnight in Paris, a jovial gem (with an excellent Corey Stoll as Hemingway) that romanticizes Paris regardless of whatever era you're seeing it.

24. X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)

X-Men: Days of Future Past

While parsing out the X-Men movie timeline can induce psychic shock, the 2014 tentpole X-Men: Days of Future Past is still one of the franchise's all-time strongest entries. Loosely adapting Chris Claremont's iconic comic book storyline, Bryan Singer's film version swaps Kitty Pryde for fan-favorite Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) who is psychically sent back in time to the 1970s to prevent Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage) from creating his menacing Sentinels that will doom mankind and mutantkind alike. With memorable set-pieces and a locked-in Jackman anchoring alongside Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy, the past and present collide like neಌver before in this exquisite sci-fi superhero spectacle.

23. When We First Met (2018)

When We First Met

After falling in love at a Halloween party in 2014,𓆏 lovestruck Noah (Adam Devine) uses a magical photo booth to relive the night he met the gorgeous and funny Avery (Alexandra Daddario), who only sees Noah as a friend. While Noah tries to relive and redo that night all ove♚r again, he quickly finds out that love is sometimes set in stone. Though Ari Sandel's sugary rom-com for Netflix may leave some audiences in the friend zone, for anyone familiar with the pangs of unrequited feelings, When We First Met is a breeze of a movie that can help us figure out why things happen for a reason - or for no reason at all.

22. Hot Tub Time Machine (2010)

Hot Tub Time Machine

Raunchi♈ness meets bitterness in the R-rated time travel comedy Hot Tub Time Machine. John Cusack, Rob Corddry, and Craig Robinson (plus Clark Duke, as Cusack's nephew) play unsatisfied adult men who - after a freak accident involving a hot tub and an energy drink spillage - find a way to time travel back to one fateful night in 1986. Determined to change their mediocre lives for the better, the men embark on reliving the greatest night of their young lives. With surprising depths of darkness, wistful nostalgia, and an underlying message to never take even one second for granted, Hot Tub Time Machine is more than its ജsimplistic title leads on.

21. Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989)

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure

If your life ethos is to "Be excellent to each other!" and "Party on, dudes!"𓃲 then you have Bill and Ted to thank. In this cult classic from 1989, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter co-star as dim-witted high school students and aspiring rock stars who are desperate to pass their history class and avoid being enrolled in military school. With the help of an enigmatic figure - played by the legendary George Carlin - Bill S. Preston Esq. and Ted "Theodore" Logan travel in time to collect the world's greatest figures in history to help them pass. While Bill and Ted inadverten⛦tly threaten to change history, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure is, indeed, an excellent movie about the virtues of friendship and being true to oneself.

20. Synchronic (2020)

Synchronic

In this time travel horror movie, two New Orleans paramedics - hard-drinking playboy and terminally ill Steve (Anthony Mackie) and family man Dennis (Jamie Dornan) - find a series of bizarre deaths linked to a designer drug called Synchronic, which induces abilities to travel in time. Dennis grow♔s alarmed when his daughter goes missing at a party where Synchronic was rampant. With its explorations of loss and friendship, Synchronic is unlike many other time travel movies with a distinctly dark and grim atmosphere. It's complimented by the skillful filmmaking of Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who have helmed films like Spring (2014), The Endless (2017), Something in the Dirt (2022), and the Marvel shows Moon Knight and Loki.

19. Click (2006)

Click

Ever wondered what the "Beyond" was in Bed, Bath, and & Beyond? Adam Sandler found out in the 2006 comedy Click, where Sandler plays a workaholic family man who finds a universa♌l remote that lets him travel in time. Though Sandler has fun "fast-forwarding" mundane moments, he soon finds out how critically important it is to relish every single minute you get in life. While Click initially polarized audiences and critics, it has slowly accrued goodwill, with some observers calling it one of Sandler's best and most mature movies behind Uncut Gems.

18. Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002)

Austin Powers in Goldmember

Oh, behave! In the third installment of the Austin Powers series, the out-of-time special agent A🔜ustin Powers (Mike Meyers, reprising one of his most iconic characters) is flung from 2002 back to 1975, teaming up with feisty ꦰFBI agent Foxxy Cleopatra (Beyoncé) and his own distant father, Nigel Powers (Michael Caine) to stop the mastermind known as "Goldmember." After spoofing spy-fi media of the 1960s, Jay Roach's Goldmember roasts the grittier, funkier era of '70s James Bond and Blaxploitation classics like Foxy Brown.

17. Kate & Leopold (2001)

Kate & Leopold

Can love transcend time? That's the idea behind Ka𓃲te & Leopold, a most enchanting romantic comedy from James Mangold and starring Meg Ryan opposite Hugh Jackmaဣn. Jackman plays Leopold, the handsome Duke of Albany from the 19th century who falls through a time portal and ends up in 2001 Manhattan. While adjusting to the 21st century, he begins wooing a successful but lonely ad executive (Ryan). Kate & Leopold is good old fashioned Hollywood magic at its best, being a mismatched couples comedy that champions how love can triumph over all - even time itself.

16. About Time (2013)

About Time

Several years after The Time Traveler's Wife, Rachel McAdams again fell in love with a time traveler in Richard Curtis' sappy but sweet romantic dramedy About Time. Domnhall Gleeson plays an ordinary man who inherits a remarkable family power: the power to travel in time. (The only catch: They can only travel in their l🐷ived timeline, and never forwards.) Deꦛtermined to use his power to find love, he becomes smitten with beautiful Mary (McAdams), though using time travel to maintain a perfect life involves a lot more risk than it seems. About Time plays fast and loose with its time travel rules, but the movie's irresistible premise and picturesque romance is enough to thaw even the most cynical of hearts.

15. Peggy Sue Got Married (1986)

Peggy Sue Got Married

After revolutionizing Hollywood filmmaking with his acclaimed gangster epics The Godfather and The Godfather Part II, Francis Ford♉ Coppola lightened up with his lively comedy about middle-age regret and b൩aby boomer nostalgia. In Peggy Sue Got Married, dissatisfied Peggy Sue (Kathleen Turner) is on the brink of divorcing her unfaithful husband Charlie (Nicolas Cage) when she faints at her 25th high school reunion. When she wakes up, she's back in her senior year of high school, learning she's been given a second chance at changing her life for the better.

14. Looper (2012)

Looper

Brick star Jose🌠ph Gordon-Levitt and director Rian Johnson reunite for one of the best time travel thrillers of the 2010s. Looper, released in 2012, takes place in a near future reality where time travel is possible but illegal; "loopers" are hired assassins who are sent back in time to kill specific targets. Things get complicated for a looper named Joe (Gordon-Levitt) who must "close the loop" when his older self (Bruce Willis) is sent back for him to kill. A trippy action-thriller that was critically acclaimed for its ingenious depiction of time travel, the buzzy success of Looper undoubtedly put Johnson on the map to later helm Star Wars: The Last Jedi in 2017.

13. See You Yesterday (2019)

See You Yesterday

Time travel whimsy meets timely social commentary in See You Yesterday from director Stefon Bristol and p🍃roducer Spike Lee. Teenage science prodigies and best friends C.J. (Eden Duncan-Smith) and Sebastian (Danté Crichlow) invent backpacks that enable time travel; they use their inventions to save C.J.'s brother, who was killed by a racist police officer. But in trying to save her family, C.J. finds unforeseen problems in trying to alter the past. A beautiful mix of Amblin-esque adventure and the full weight of systemic racism, See You Yesterday - a sweeping piꦯcture about love and the ethics of genius - elevates the time travel genre into something more.

12. Avengers: Endgame (2019)

Avengers: Endgame

To mark the end of M𒁏arvel's acclaimed Infinity Saga, directors Joe and Anthony Russo and writers♏ Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely invited Marvel fans to take another lap around the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the time travel-oriented finale Avengers: Endgame. Following up on the events of Avengers: Infinity War, Endgame sees the Avengers reunite and hatch a scheme to reobtain the powerful Infinity Stones - all scattered throughout the MCU's vast canon - and restore a vanished populace, not to mention stop Thanos for good. Avengers: Endgame needs no introduction; it was and still is one of the biggest movies of all time.

11. Time Bandits (1981)

Time Bandits

Terry Gilliam brings his strange sensibilities to a more mainstream family audience with his 1981 classic time Bandits. Craig Warnock stars as Kevin, a young boy with a fascinaꦆtion for history who is visited by time-traveling dwarves who plunder treasures from different historical periods. As Kevin joins the dwarves, they escape capture by Evil (David Warner), a malevolent entity who wants to steal the dwarves' map that lets them travel through portal🍌s. Time Bandits stands the test of, ahem, time, to look and feel like a riveting children's storybook come to life.

10. Primer (2004)

Primer

In Shane Carruth's debut feature film, two engineers (played by Carruth and David Sullivan) accidentally discover the means of time travel. While experimenting with their discovery, they find out that time travel is a lot more complex than they thought it would be. Still an underground indie favorite to this day, Primer is remembered for its experimental plot structure that mixes philosophical theory with hard mathematics. Primer was concocted by Carruth, who actually majored in mathematics in college a🌺nd previously worked as an engineer prior to becoming a filmmaker. Primer was a huge hit at the Sundance Film Festival and is still beloved for its cerebral exploration of the ethics of scientific discove♍ry.

9. Time After Time (1979)

Time After Time

Nicholas Meyer pays tribute to the granddaddy of time travel storytelli﷽ng, H.G. Wells, with his delectable time travel fantasy Time After Time. Malcolm McDowell plays H.G. Wells, who uses his time machine to finally apprehend Jack the Ripper (David Warner) after the famed serial killer escapes to modern-day San Francisco. While Time After Time tries to be a dark thriller, it can't help but have fun with H.G. Wells and Jack the Ripper exploring a most alien environment loaded with fast food chains and disco nightclubs.

8. Somewhere in Time (1980)

Somewhere in Time

Have you ever been iꦬn love so bad you were willing to get lost in time? Shortly after Christopher Reeve took off with Superman: The Movie, the actor strove to play against typecasting with Somewhere in Time. Directed by Jeannot Szwarc, Reeve stars as a playwright who becomes smitten by a beautiful stage actress (Jane Seymour) seen in a portrait dated 1912. Under hypnosis, Reeve's character ends up in 1912 and tries to find and woo the woman. He succeeds, but we won't spoil the devastating ending. While the movie endured bad reviews during its original release, it has since become a beloved romantic classic. The Grand Hotel in Michigan, where the majority of principal photography, hosts annual anniversary screenings of the picture every October.

7. 12 Monkeys (1995)

12 Monkeys

Terry Gilliam is no stranger to science fiction and time travel stories. One of his most successful Hollywood films to date is still the 1995 classic 12 Monkeys. Bruce Willis plays ♎a convict from 2035 who is sent back in time to 1996 (though he ends up in 1990) to gather information about the terrorist plot that led to a virus wiping out most of humanity. Arriving at the right time to observe the paralyzing inundation of information at the end of the 20th century, 12 Monkeys mesmerized critics and audiences to become the number one movie for two weeks in January 1995. While not strictly a remake of the French New Wave sci-fi La Jetée by Chris Marker - Gilliam even claimed he hadn't even seen it before production - Universal Studios obtained the remake rights to Marker's film after producer Robert Kosberg successfully pitched the studio 12 Monkeys as🐲 a movie heavily inspired by it. In 2015, a hit TV series remake premiered on Syfy.

6. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Time travel isn't exclusive to science fiction. In the 2004 sequel to the hit fantasy film saga, Mexican auteur Alfonso Cuarón adapts the book of the same name which sees the increasingly aging Hogwarts trio - Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Hermoine (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint) - meet the wizard♎ criminal Sirius Black (Gary Oldman) who has connections to Harry's family. A key part of Prisoner of Azkaban's story involves a magical device that lets the characters travel in time; some of the film's most me🦩morable and deliciously staged set pieces center around ingenious depictions of time travel.

5. Source Code (2011)

Source Code

In the aftermath of major events like 9/11, some Hollywood filmmakers dared to ask if time travel could stop acts of terrorﷺism. Enter: Source Code, from director Duncan Jones. Jake Gyllenhaal stars as a U.S. soldier tasked wit💖h using a cutting-edge government program called "Source Code" to relive the final minutes of a commuter train prior to its bombing and identify the terrorist behind it. The catch is that Gyllenhaal's character enters the program inhabiting the body of another unknown man, which creates problems for both himself and the unknown man's beautiful companion (Michelle Monaghan). Jones' movie is a muscular action-thriller that successfully combines time travel with time loop stories, perfectly balancing the two to become something totally unique.

4. Tenet (2020)

Tenet

Christopher Nolan is a filmmaker obsessed with time as a thematic motif. But in 2020, Nolan was in top form with his summer sci-fi Tenet. John David Wash🦹ington stars as the nameless agent, going only by "The Protagonist" who must navigate the twilight world of international espionage to stop the powerful arms dealer Andrei Sator (Kenneth Branagh) and prevent World War III. To accomplish this, he teams up with another enigmatic agent (Robert Pattinson) and the beautiful wife of Sator, Kat (Elizabeth Debicki), all while using the newest tool in his arsenal: inverted entropy, basically the reverse physics of an object in time. Confused yet? A lot of people were. But that hasn't stopped Tenet from amassing a dedicated fanbase who insist that Tenet isn't a movie you think about, but rather feel.

3. Your Name (2016)

Your Name

In this sweeping animated romantic fantasy by acclaimed directo🐻r Makoto Shinkai, two teenagers (voiced by Ryunosuke Kamiki and Mone Kamishiraishi in the original Japanese language, and Michael Sinterniklaas and Stephanie Sheh in the English dub) mysteriously find themselves swapping bodies. In their efforts to better understand what is going on, they find a deeper connection linked to a tragic🌼 natural disaster. A time travel movie unlike so many others, Your Name was celebrated upon release for its gorgeous visuals and equally breathtaking story about fate, love, and intertwined destinies that transcend time itself.

2. The Terminator (1984) and Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)

The Terminator

Arguably the definitive time travel action blockbusters, James Cameron's Terminator movies are simply unstoppable. Arnold Scwharzenegger is in top form as the T-800, who is initially dispatched to𝓰 kill the mother of mankind's hero John Connor, a woman named Sarah (Linda Hamilton). In the bigger, somehow better sequel Terminator 2, Schwarzenegger returns as a repurposed T-800 to save both Sarah and her 12-year-old son John Connor (Edward Furlong). Despite numerous sequels, nothing can top the tech-noir transcendence of the first two Terminator entries.

1. The Back to the Future Trilogy (1984-1989)

Back to the Future

Robert Zemeckis' '80s classic trilogy is, without question, one of the greatest time travel adventures ever told, an untouchable sci-fi trilogy if there💖 ever was one. In the first movie, teenager Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) accidentally travels to 1955 and must figure out a way to get his own parents to fall in love again after his presence disrupts the whole town. In the sequels, Marty travels to the "future" year of 2015, and then the distant past of the Old West, all with the help of Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) and a ridiculously tricked-out DeLorean. The Back to the Future trilogy is foundational for an entire generation, and it's not hard to see why. The movies are fast, fun, and unforgettable, a m𒁏ovie that doesn't need roads to take us away.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> Two of the biggest stars in cinema’s firmament shoot for the moon in this jaunty if somewhat overstuffed space-race romcom. A sparky Scarlett Johansson plays rule-bending advertising maven Kelly Jones, who’s hired to ‘market the moon’ to an uninterested America, putting her on a collision course with NASA’s workaholic launch🃏 director Cole Davis (a straig🍌ht-shooting Channing Tatum).

Properly paired for the first time (they didn’t overlap in 2016’s 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Hail, Caesar!), Johansson and Tatum’s sheer star wattage gives this nostalgic high-concept comedy an Old Hollywood feel,✱ a throwback to the days when trailers yelled, ‘Together at last!’ Set in the feverish run-up to the 1969 Apollo 11 Moon landing (and released just before that event’s 55th anniversary this summer), it’s a bold, retro-styled original story, one that stands out in a sea of safe summer sequels.

A pleasingly big picture, both in its expansive visuals and its story scope, Fly Me to the Moon takes off rapidly once Woody Harrelson’s cheerfully devious White House fixer Moe Berkus has booted Kelly off Madison Avenue aꦍnd into Cape Canaveral’s vast rocket hangers, where Cole wrestles with NASA’s underfunded, breakage-plagued moonshot program.

Rose Gilroy’s confident script isn’t afraid of a classic awkward meet-cute (Cole sweetly saves Kelly from a diner-table candle disaster). But direct🔯or Greg Berlanti (best known as the TV powerhouse co-creator of You, Titans and Arrow) is eager to milk laughs from the friction betwee🦹n Cole’s exasperated high ideals and Kelly’s worldly smarts.

On🌸e of her savviest moves is making astronauts Aldrin, Armstrong and Collins ‘bigger than the Beatles’ through relentless TV exposure, until all the licensing (Omega watches, Rice Krispies) rains money into the moonshot program. Kelly’s got the kind of smiley ruthlessness that will swap Cole for an actor doppelganger in news footage if he refuses to play ball.

Like 2022’s 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:The Lost City, it’s a rom-com where Tatum jostles for screen space with a spirited female lead, but this time Johansson (who also produced the movie) has the lion’s share of the fun stuff. Tatum, whose physical prowess lights up his best roles, is unhelpfully confined to pacing crossly through offices or delivering control-room pep talks, while Johansson floors a convertible or bowls a bin through a shop window. Die-hard Chan fans (aka ‘Tatum-tots’) may also rue the slow-burn love story’s old-school lack of smooching. The only thing here getting its top torn off when things🦩 get fiery is the Apollo 11 s♉pace capsule.

Fly Me to the Moon (2024)

As a female striver in the '60s, Johansson keeps Kelly unashamedly flirty at work and play, teaching the reluctant Cole how to manipulate arrogant senators into voting for vital NASA funding. Her disruptor energy and p﷽erky period frocks add a shot of Mad Men raciness to the film’s tone, punched up by seamless use of TV news footage, Moon-themed 60s soundtrack hits, and Harrelson’s God-given ability to steal every scene he enters with his "The President wants this" swagger and shit-eating grin.

All this playfulness runs nicely around the outsize glamour of the Kennedy Space Center’s giant launch pads and rockets, whose world-changing mission the film pays (mostly) careful respect to. Using the '60s space race for backroom dramas isn’t a new idea – The Dish (2000) and Hidden Figures (2017) forged feel-good tales from its IRL events. But Fly Me to the Moon boldly goes wh💮ere no similar film has gone before, by inserting a cheeky (and definitely fictional) conspiracy plot into the mix. When Berkus orders Kelly to stage a secret fake Moon landing – ready for broadcast to a watching world as a backup – both Kelly’s integrity and her relationship are suddenly placed in jeopardy.

Winking at the famous conspiracy theory that Stanley Kubrick𝕴 shot the ‘Moon landing’ (as outlined in 2002 mockumentary Dark Side of the Moon), the film plays the sham lunar rehearsals for laughs, pivoting to a chaotic farce spoofing mo✤vie-set tensions. (Jim Rash’s diva director curses the fact that, "My Armstrong is a whiny little bitch.")

Berlanti works hard to blend a range of moods into the film, its lively LOLs tempered with some melancholy secrets that both Cole and Kelly are keeping. But his knack for combining an intimate story nimbly wiඣth a historic event doesn’t quite last the course. Fly Me starts to drag a bit late on, from the sheer weight of winding real h🧸istory, confected conspiracy and a fictional love affair together, and trying to keep it all airborne.

The aspect that needs more plot pไropellant is the surprisingly low-key romance. Johansson is at her husky-voiced best, but she and Tatum don’t have rocket-fuel-strength chemistry (the role was originally planned for Chris Evans, to ignite that spark their Marvel encounters showed off). They wind up𝓀 creating a sweet and gentle simmer, rather than the explosive Hepburn/Tracy-style screwball energy needed to get this ambitious movie into high orbit.

Fly Me to the Moon is released 🐓in UK cinemas on July 11 an𓆏d in US theaters on July 12.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> Last year’s 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:May December explored the ramifications of a scandalous age-gap relationship in juicily melodramatic fashion. In The Idea of You, director Michael Showalter (澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:The Big Sick) gives us the rom-com version: a 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Notting Hill in reverse (Hill Notting?) in which a 40-year-old gallery owner embarks on a clandestine romance with a 24-year-old boy-band heartthrob who has until only recently adorned the walls of her teenage dau🉐ghter’s bedroom.

“I’m too old for you!” sighs gallery owner Solènꦺe (Anne Hathaway) to Harry Styles-alike Hayes (Nicholas Galitzine, Red White & Royal Blue, 2022’s Cinderella) after a day of flogging him art ends with them kissing in her kitchen. Hayes, though, has been smitten ever since she stumbled into his trailer at Coachella looking for a restroom: a rather flimsy meet-cute that sets the tone for everything that follows in this glossy but shallow adaptation of Robinne Lee’s 2017 beach-read bestseller.

With daughter Izzy (Ella Rubin) away at summer camp, Solène is initially thrilled to tag along on tour as Hayes’ plus-one, even if it does mean sharing a spot by the pool with his August Moon bandmates’ far younger partners. Until🙈, that is, the tabloids get wind of their fling and start painting her as a cradle-snat🔥ching cougar or ‘Yoko 2.0’.

“Promise me you’ll revisit this in five years!” pleads Galitzine at one crucial turning point. But such is the in-built disposability of this sort of lightweight streaming fodder that those who watch it will probably hav꧑e forgotten it inside of five minutes.

The Idea of You streams on Pඣrime Video from May 2.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> New rom-com The Idea of You has debuted to rave reviews and currently has a perfect score on 🐲Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Robinne Lee, with the character of Hayes said to be loosely based on Harry Styles.

The movie, directed by 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:The Big Sick helmer Michael Showalter, currently has a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes after premiering at SXSW. A hit with critics, calls the film "a very welcome new piece 𒐪to the rom-com canon.🉐 It’s a warm, approachable movie that you’ll get blissfully lost in."

"The meet-cute seems a little contrived, but the chemistry between Hathaway and Galitzine feels real," agrees, while writes that "The Idea of You functions best as a carefree treat – a fꦯeel-good romantic comedy that delivers some laughs and bursts with the magnetism of its lead. <![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> When Harry Met Sally is one of the best and most beloved rom-comಌs of all time, but director Rob Reiner recently revealed that the movie could have had a very different ending.

"The original ending of the film that we had was that Harry and Sally didn't get together," he told . "Because I had been 💜married for 10 years, I'd been single for 10 years, and I couldn't figure out how I was ever going to be with anybody. And that gave birth to When Harry Met Sally.

"And I hadn't met anybody, so it was going to be the two of them seeing each other after years, talking, and then walking away from each other. I met my wife Michele, who I’ve been married to now 35 years. I met her while we were making the film, and I changed the ꦉending."

Of course, the movie actually ends with Harry (Billy Crystal) racing through the streets of New York City to meet Sally (Meg Ryan) at a New Year's Eve party before the clock strikes midnight. The pair had fought a🍸 few weeks prior after sleeping together for the first time and hadn't spoken since. Breathless, Harry arrives at the party and reci✅tes a now-iconic speech detailing the reasons he loves Sally, and they kiss as Auld Lang Syne starts to play.

The film, first released in 1989 and written by Nora Ephron, follows the pair's will-they-won't-they friendship over the course of 10 years, starting with a tense post-grad car share from the University of Chicago to New York and cℱulminating in that New Year's kiss.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> London and rom🐟-coms go together like a Joni Mitchell CD and crying at Christmas, but neither has been committed to the big screen quite like Rye Lane. Released this past spring, Raine Allen-Miller's debut feature follows two strangers thrown together for a madcap journey around the city's streets in a bid to get back at their respective exes.

The movie tells a love story between Dom (David Jonsson) and Yas (Vivian Oparah), two recently single 20-somethings who cross paths at a mutual friend's photography exhibition after Yas hears Dom crying in the unisex toilets. But it's not just that – it’s also a love letter to its setting. It's always fun to see the place you live on screen, but the London committed to cellꦦuloid for romantic comedies is usually reserved for tourist traps like Westminster or wealthy residential areas like Notting Hill.

Instead, in Rye Lane, we walk, run, and moped through the streets of Peckham and Brixton, making stops at local landmarks like Peckhamplex Cinema, Brockwell P🥃ark, Windrush Square, and Rye Lane Market. This isn't a polished version of London, but it's not a gritty, bleak version, either – it's the city in all its messy, eclectic glory.

This is the real city, where people live, work, and fall in love. There are no envy-inducing Br🎶idget Jones-esque apartments in Rye Lane – Dom had to move back into his parents' house post-breaku☂p, and Yas lives in a houseshare with a former living room as a bedroom. The script, penned by Nathan Bryon and Tom Melia, was originally set in the North London borough of Camden, but Allen-Miller, who moved to Brixton at the age of 12, knew the setting had to change with herself at the helm.

What really holds the movie together, though, is J🐼onsson and Oparah. The pair, both in their first big-screen leading roles, ooze charm and charisma, bouncing off each other with sizzling chemistry. These are two people who you can believe could fall in love. Clocking in at a tight 82 minutes, Rye Lane doesn't overstay a second of its runtime. Fizzy, kinetic, and bursting with energy, the camera barrels along with Dom and Yas, and all the promise of the big city flies along with them in the tailwind. Watching them feels like we've hopped onto Yas' borrowed moped for a joyride, but the central romance never feels rushed. Every bit of eye contact and cautious flirtation feels earned, and their first kiss feels positively giddy.

And it's not all about the 'rom'. The script is genuinely funny, and the leads deliver on the humor, too. Op♍arah deftly sells Yas to the audience, a character who might have been annoying with a less smart script or a less skilled actor, while Jonsson makes sure the shyer, more cautious Dom still holds his own. They bot💞h feel like real people, afraid to look too closely at what they want in case it melts away.

A rom-com isn't complete without a third-act conflict that threatens the central pairing, but this trope only works if we can see both points of view. Too petty on one side and we're frustrated, too mean-spirited on the part of the other and the eventual resolution won't sit right. Rye Lane handles thi🔜s expertly, with a low-stakes betrayal that makes sense from both sides. Dom and Yas&🐭apos; inevitable reconciliation is refreshingly normal, too. There's a grand gesture, sure, but it's a full-circle moment that feels grounded in both the characters and the world they live in.

Rom-coms are built for escapism and Rye Lane achieves just that, all the whi♔le feeling grounded in realism and down-to-earth charm. In short, it's everything you want from a romantic comedy. All the hallmarks of the genre are here, but there's an underlying sense of newness and freshness. With two charismatic leads at i🍌ts helm and supported by a third co-star in south London, Rye Lane puts rom-coms back on the map.

Rye Lane is now streaming on 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Disney Plus and Hulu. For more of the top films of the year, check out our list of the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best movies of 2023, as voted for by the Total Film team.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> A rom-com, Meg Ryan, and an airport meet-cute? What Happens Later ൲– which Ryan also directs and co-writes – features a fair few elements guaranteed to pique the interest of fans of the genre. However, don’t expect a rehash of Ryan’s plethora of early hits, 𒅌as this film takes a more meditative and emotional tone than you might expect.

It follows two former🌠 lovers as they reunite 25 years after 𒊎a traumatic event pulled them apart and a freak storm lands them stranded in the same airport. Ryan’s Willa and David Duchovny’s Bill soon find that life has taken them in very different directions as they reflect on their past and present. Elements of magical realism weave into the story of lost love, which Ryan tells GamesRadar+ came to her at the perfect time.

We speak below about the challenges that came with filming such a personal drama on a tight budget, how post-pandemic art has changed, and why it was important for Ryan to dedicate the film to her When Harry Met Sally… director and clos𒆙e friend Nora Ephron. Our conversation has been edited for length and clarity.

Meg, before What Happens Later, you had a bit of a break from films. Why was this the right project to come back to?

Meg Ryan: Really, it was for me a lot a🎐bout the timing of it. You know, it just came to me during COVID, during lockdown, and it was essentially a story about two people kind of locked down. When it first came to me, we all wondered, ‘Should COVID be a part of it?’ I just thought it was an interesting idea, 'What if you were stuck with someone and you had all of these unresolved issues, how would that play out?' So the framing of COVID and then [there was] the fact that I had time to write and time [when] there's no pressure of getting anything on the page. It was just sort of these ruminations at five in the morning, pulling the script apart, putting it back together again.

And David, it's been quite a while since you've tackled a romantic comedy, what was it that drew you to this role?

David Duchovny: Oh, I like that space a lot, and Meg is the best in that space. I couldn't believe my good fortune when it came my way. It was a very easy decision for me to make. I mean, listening to Meg talk about it being a COVID project is interesting to me as well, because I guess I never really put that together. During the lockdown, people were trying to figure out how we were going to make movies. This is one with two people and nobody else has a speaking role, nobody else figurওes into the world.

The genesis of that is interesting to me because it ended up being such a wonderful challenge to make a movie where there were just two people speaking. I think if Mꦺeg had gotten the script and COVID wasn't happening, she probably would have felt the pressure to expand it and ꧃have other characters. It's interesting to me that that didn't happen, and I'm thankful.

Ryan: That it'ꦜs true because the feasibility of 🧔just doing a movie with two people at that time was just much more possible.

You speak about this coming to you at a time in COVID, but I wanted to ask a bit about it coming out now. Do you think in the time since the pandemic, there’s become more of a need for feel-good films like this?

Ryan: I have been wondering, watching a lot of the movies coming out this year, a lot of the art, and r🐈eading things. I still just think culturally and societally, we're still trying to make some sense of what just happened to all of us. Really, this is a story about forgiveness and it's two people who get their facts straight, two people who are willing to take responsibility, and who are willing to apologize. I thought some of COVID was about that, a reckoning if you're by yourself and you're thinking and you're not doing your usual stuff. I remember watching a plane go overhead and going ‘Wow’ or watching the hummingbirds in my garden, and it was just different.

What Happens Later

Meg, I also really like the kind of magical realism element of this story as well. There are some fantastical bits to it, did you want to leave it ambiguous in terms of what is real and what isn't when you're making it?

Ryan: That was a really deliberate decision that the environment gets increasingly magical. It's almost like they wake up and time stops. In post-production, we were able to get rid of all the signs to create a liminal space, and the idea of snow at night outside. I thought it was so magical to be inside looking outside at snow at night. I thought that was naturally beautiful and magical. So those were subtle, but very specific, decisi💜ons about the entry into magical space. These two people are in an increasingly magical space, the airport talks to them, more and more directly and it changes its attitude for them. I love magical realism and we didn't have a lot of money to do it so it was more about what we took away from the environment.

And David, am I right that you filmed this in a real airport? What were the challenges that came with that?

Duchovny: Well, we filmed half in a real airport and the rest was actually a beautiful museum, which makes the airport in the film the most magical realistic thing that was done. It's like, ‘Wow, that's the most beautiful airport. I've ever seen’. But the 50% that we shot in the real airport had the challenges that you would imagine even though it was a regional airport, so it was small. It would shut down around 9pm and wouldn't open up again until six or seven in the morning so we had to run at night when we could be alone. But if we had to shoot daytime stuff, we had to shoot around people. We had to do long scenes without cuts, weaving in and out of people who had every right to go where they wanted to go in the airport and have every right to take our picture if they wanted to in the middle of the take and things ꧑like that. You can♎'t lock down an airport, it's illegal so every time we did one of those long walk and talks that are during the day, those are real people and we're just kind of betting on their good graces.

Ryan: The fact that we had 21 days and a certain amount of dollars to shoot it, you know those are going to be the parameters. So there were two days we had to shoot during the day at the airport, and with the crowds, we knew we couldn't stop and we knew what all the obstacles were going to be. So it necessitated these long walk and talks where it’s just the two characters talking. What's so great, I think, is that we weren't able to cut those up into coverage and we knew w♍e had to get that. So the fact that we don’t cut adds to the tension and adds to the romance.

And just finally, Meg I noticed that this film is dedicated to Nora Ephron. Why was it important for you to have that tribute in there with this film?

Ryan: I did three or four movies with her and it’s just purely gratitude. It was just a thank-you note. She had a love of it, I have a love for it. She was so delighted on the set all the time, she had so much fun and I started to understand that [as I was directing this]. Part of that was that you write something and it's so small and in your head and it entertains you at your desk. Then a hundred people have an opinion about it and actors are invested in it and all of a sudden it has this life that you could just never imagine when it's small and in your own hands, you know? It's so fun and I just didn't know that when I was working with her. I learned that while I was working on this and I just felt like Iꦜ understood a little bit more about her.

Duchovny: Iꦉ’ll say this for you Meg, that you are like Nora. I never met her but you always seemed to be having fun on set, even though I'm sure sometimes you weren't, and that's very important. It's very important for the directoꦿr to set that tone. So, I appreciated that and knowing where it comes from is significant to me.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> The first teaser for upcoming rom-com Anyone But You is finally here – and it's bound to please anyone who's super into the genre&apos꧅;s classic enemies to lovers trope.

Fronted by 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Top Gun: Maverick's Glen Powell and Euphoria's Sydney Sweeney, the movie centers on Bea and Ben, who can't stand the sight of one another after an amazing first date turned sour. Problems arise, then, when the pair find themselves discover that they've been invited toꦅ the same destination wedding in Sydney, Australia.

To surv෴ive their stay down under, Bea and Ben... decide to trick their friends and family that thꦍey're dating. At 54 seconds, the promo, which you can watch above, doesn't find the time to tell us why exactly, but we're sure to learn more in future trailers.

What it does manage to make clear, though, is that director Will Gluck, who previously helmed the likes of Easy A and 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Friends with Benefits, embraced somewhat of a 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Fifty Shades of Grey-esque tone with it. Set to WizTheMc's Death of Me, which sounds a lot like The Weeknd's Earned It, and surprisingly light on the comedy, the clip feature𝄹s several references to the popular franchise, from lavish locations, yachts and helicopters to its protagonists making eyes at one another while slinking around.

"There's no way we can convi✤nce anyone we actually like each other," Ben states during one scene, to which Bea confidently replies: "Trustও me, we're at a wedding, a million miles away from home... who knows what could happen?" With the crux of the plot still very much under wraps, you could say that again...

Written by Gluck and Ilana Wolpert (High School Musi꧂cal: The Musical: The Series), the flick also stars Alexandra Shipp, Michelle Hurd, Darren Barnet, and 🔯Dermot Mulroney.

Anyone But You releases in cinemas on December 22. While we wait, check out our list of the most exciting 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:upcoming movies heading our way throughout the🦂 rest of 2023 and beyond.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> Look out, Straw Hats. A new Netflix title📖 has overtaken One Piಌece as the streamer's most-viewed title of last week: rom-com Love at First Sight.

When sparks fly between Oliver (澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:X-Men: Apocalypse's Ben Hardy) and Hadley (The White Lotus' Haley Lu Richardson) on a flight from New York to London, it seems like love could be on the cards for the pair. That is, until they lose each other in the chaos at Heathrow Airport. Trying to reconnect in a city as big as London may 𓂃seem like an impossible task, but these two are more than up for the challenge. The cast also includes Jameela Jamil, Rob Delaney, Dexter Fletcher, 💫and Sally Phillips.

Love at First Sight topped the English-language movies chart with 14.1 million views last week (September 11 to September 17), which also made it the week's most-viewed title. Meanwhile, live-ac🍎tion anime adaptation One Piece, which is still top of the English-language TV show chart, had 10 million views in its third week on the platform.

The movie has secured the top spot by a considerable margin, too. You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, starring Adam Sandler and his two daughters, is in second place on the film chart, but that title had 4.3 million views. Other titles in the global top 10 include 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:The Croods and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> In 2002’s 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:My Big Fat Greek Wedding, protagonist Toula’s father is obsessed wi🌳th Windex as the cure to everything. A rash? Poison ivy? A sജwollen toe? Put some Windex on it, and it will magically sort your ailment out. The third film in the franchise, which bears very little resemblance to that endlessly quotable, sleeper-hit romcom, would have done well to heed his advice.

A distinct lack of the original film’s charm plagues the latest entry, which joins the Portokalos fam🍃ily on a long-awaited vacation to the Greek isl🌺and where Toula’s now-departed dad grew up. The hope is to reunite his journal with his childhood friends at a big celebration, full of souvlaki, ouzo, and “Opa!”s. But when the family arrives in a crumbling village, it must instead work out how to salvage the day - and organise a wedding too, naturally.

Shifting the action from the Chicago setting of the previous films is a welcome change you’d hope would breathe some new life into the franchise. But aside from a few gorgeous shots that will have you dreaming of the Aegean, writer/director/star Nia Vardalos’ meandering plot is packed with🔯 too many flat jokes and too much stilted dialogue to allow any time to relax into the sun-soaked setting.

Not much care is taken either in developing the myriad side-plots, including an awkward romance between Toula and Ian’s (John Corbett) daughter (Elena Kampouris) and her college friend (Elias Kacavas) that doesn't e♍arn its inevitable happy ending. Meanwhile, other arcs feel rushed, relying too heavily on predictable tropes and painfully on-the-nose callbacks to the first two films.

Vardaꦺlos does her best wi𓆏th her scenes as Toula, bringing some much-needed charm and emotional depth, while laughs are mostly driven by Andrea Martin’s Aunt Voula, who aptly introduces herself early on as "your favourite". But neither can save My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 from feeling like a pale imitation of what’s come before.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 is in cinemas on September 🥃8.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> "I mean, on the face of it, it is rather sಌilly," smiles Red, White & Royal Blue director Matthew López. "But you know fairy tales almost al𒁃ways sound silly."

GamesRadar+ is talking to the Tony A🌠ward-winning writer of The Inheritance who's behind Prime Video's highly anticipated adaptation of Casey M📖cQuiston's book Red, White & Royal Blue. The film, which has a seriously dedicated online following, is finally due to hit the streaming platform on August 11.

But despite its popularity, López is not wrong – explaining the premise of this story is hard to do without a wry smile. It follows 'frenemies&a⭕pos; Alex Claremont-Diaz (Taylor Zakhar Perez), the First Son of the United States of America, and Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine), the second son of the British Royal Family, who are forced together following a rather public disagreement involving a lot of cake.

The sparks that they first assume are🍸 annoyance turn out to be chemistry as the men get to know each other and, who would have guessed it, fall in love. It's a surprisingly heartfelt story of reckoning with identity amidst prescriptive institutions, as well as b𝓀eing a romantic and steamy rom-com.

"There's something inherently ridiculous aไbout fairy tales," Lóp♏ez continues, with his passion for the genre very clear. "But I think there's also something incredibly fundamentally human about them and they actually represent our fondest hopes and desires. With this movie and this story, it's about challenging our old ideas about ourselves and the world we live in."

Young people in old buildings

Red, White & Royal Blue

That's what Red, White & Royal Blue is all about. Alex and Henry realize that while they're both from completely different backgrounds – and opposite sides of the Atlantic – they have a lot of similarities too. Alex desperately wants to be more involved in the reelection campaign for his mother (played by Uma Thurman in some inspired casting), while Henry feels trapped by the rules and duty of th📖e monarchy.

Tackling these issues was something important from the start for López. "When we started to make this film, I always said to people, 'This is about young people in old buildings an🍸d this is about new ways of doing old things.' So, I think on☂e of the things that makes the book so special to people is how, even when you are a Prince and when your mother is the President of the United States, you don't have to be the person you're told that you're supposed to be and you can be truthful to yourself. It's actually by being truthful to yourself that you can actually change the world. So, is it a fun, silly, lighthearted, escapist romantic comedy? Yes. Do I hope that people find something nourishing in it? Yes."

At the heart of creating that, naturally, was finding the perfect leads to be able to carry it off. "I went as far as telling my producers that if we don'🌌t find these actors, then we can't make the film," Lopez says of the "exhaustive process" of finding Purple Hearts star Nicholas Galitzine and The Kissing Booth's Taylor Zakhar Perez to play Henry an𒊎d Alex.

While neither actor is a stranger to the rom❀-com genre, it was all down to their chemistry that crackled over Zoom (this was during the pandemic after all) in their first meeting. "I wasn't sure🌺 what we'd get because it was Zoom and not in person," López beams of his leading men. "They had chemistry from the beginning, from the moment they first said, 'Hello' and started to do their scene. They just started playing, inventing together, and riffing with each other."

This carried on to the set very naturally as well. "I think the smartest thing that either of them did was decide to trust each other. They're very different actors, each of them, and on set they worked so well together and they really supported each other.🐻"

Royally invested

Red, White & Royal Blue

There's no doubt it was an important casting decision, too because, well, Red, White & Royal Blue is something of a phenomenon. When the novel was first published i🔜n 2019, it shot up the New York Times Bestsellers list with reviews 🦄and readers alike praising its depiction of LGBTQ+ romance.

This following⛦ has only grown, with the excitement for the adaptation palpable (just take a look at the to see what I mean). So, no pressure then for the man to bring it to ꦯthe big screen, right?

Well, Lopez laughingly admits he tries not to think about it because he&apos𓃲;d "never even get out of bed" if he did. But, he adds, he has the advantage of knowing exactly what the fans want, because he's a huge one himself.

"The truth is that this is a movie that was actually made by a very big fan of the book, and I went to set every day with a bunch of people who were big fans of th♌e book," López exp🔥lains. "It wasn't just a job for many of us, we were really, really excited to be telling this story and it came from a place of passion. I knew if I didn't do a good job, I'd be letting down the number one fan of the book, which was me." He adds, taking a breath, "It was just enough pressure to give me petrol in my tank, but not enough to give me crippling anxiety."

Part of making sure this adaptation was right for those fans was making sure it does justice to the ♋material, and in particular the physical side of Alex and Henry's rela🍌tionship.

"Anybody who knows the book knows that in addition to their great banter and everything else, Alex and Henry have some pretty great sex and they really dig each other physically," López says. "To ignore that or to leave that out of the movie would not be to make this Red, 🍸White, & Royal Blue. So, I was very clear with everyone upfront. I said, 'This movie is going to be pretty sexy.'"

The final cut of the🐓 movie really leans into this, but Lopez d🌸oes add that he's not sure the R-rating was entirely deserved. "I was never asked to tone things down to get a PG-13 rating," he continues candidly. "I mean, when we got the R-rating, I think on the one hand, I was a little surprised, but I was also not surprised. I did question whether or not if it had been a straight couple we would still have gotten an R-rating."

Lopez continues, "I fundamentally believe that the MPAA is really wrong-headed when it comes to sort of giving a pass to violence and really penalizing sex. I think they&apꦦos;ve got it the wrong way around on that. But no one at any moment in the process of making this film said to me, 'You need to tone this down so that it can be more palatable to a broader audience.' There was real support across the boar🍎d for letting the movie be the movie that I wanted to make and letting Alex and Henry's sexual life together, be as full as I wanted."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> There's no🧔 shor🦂tage of interactive specials on Netflix right now – that is, movies and TV shows that allow you to influence the course of events and choose your own ending by answering questions.

Black Mirror did it first with the 2018 movie Bandersn♉atch, which enabled the audience to decide the fate of programmer Stefan (Fionn Whitehead) through a series of choices, down to his choice of breakfast cereal. Plenty of other projects have followed in the five years since, including an interactive Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt movie released in 2020, as well as the 2019 series You vs. Wild, which allowed viewers to instruct Bear Grylls as he navigated through different terrains.

Choose Love, however, is Netflix's firsᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚt interactive rom-com. The upcoming movie stars The Perfect Date's Laura Marano as Cami, who's facing a dilemma in her love life. She's in a steady re෴lationship with boyfriend Paul (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's Scott Michael Foster), but she's worried she missed out on the ones that got away with ex Rex (Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City's Avan Jogia) and first love Jack (Power Rangers Ninja Steel's Jordi Webber).

As for who Cami will end♔ up with (and just how messy things get), that seems to be up to us. Per the official synopsis: "In this choose-your-own romance adve🥀nture, the viewer will navigate through Cami’s romances and ultimately choose her love."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> New London rom-com Rye Lane is aware of its history, but knows it's paving the way for something different. The film, from director Raine Allen-Miller, pays homage to the British romantic comedies that came before it, with tongue-in-cheek references to 🐬movi🐈es like Bridget Jones. There are also a few fun cameos in the film, including by comedian Munya Chawawa, but one in particular stands out.

When leading duo Yas (Vivian Oparah) and Dom (David Jonsson) head to a south London burrito truck, who should appear at the serving hatch to take their order but king of the rom-com and Bridget Jones' Mr. Darcy himself, Colin𒁃 Firth. So, how does a person get British rom-com royalty to make a cameo in their debut feature?

"I wrote him a letter," Allen-Miller tells Total Film. "I just wanted to do a cheeky wink to the films that he's normally in and almost have him in there as 🐓a nod to the fact that this is my version and my 'anti' that."

Allen-Miller's film takes place over the course of one tumultuous day in south London, eschewiཧng the usual filming locations of the English capital that feature in Bridg꧑et Jones et al for the historically Black and working class areas of Peckham and Brixton. Oparah and Jonsson play two newly single 20-somethings thrown together after a chance encounter, and Firth's burrito truck is just one stop on a chaotic journey of revenge, self-acceptance, and questionable karaoke.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> Warner Bros. is in talks to pick up Nancy Meyers' next big rom-com, following Netflix’♍s decision to shelve the project. According to , the studio is eyeing the star-studded title, which was looking to feature the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Penélope Cruz, Owen Wilson, and Michael Fassbender, after the filmmaker and the streaming platform clashed over its budget.

Meyers was allegedly pushing for $150 million, $80 million of which would be split between her and its cast, while Netflix didn’t want to go above $130 million. THR states that while Warner Bros. may not be able to meet Meyers’ demands on budget, it’s intrigued by the prospect of releasing a ready-made title with an A-List line-up and that "generous backends could end up on the t๊able".

First announced in April 2022, the movie, which is being referred to as Paris Paramount for now, is geared up to be semi-autobiographical on Meyers' part, as it charts the rollercoaster relationship between a young writer-director and a producer, who fall in and out of love with one another while regularly crossing paths in Hollywood. Meyers, who has two children with writer-producer Charles Shyer, remains on board to write, direct, and produce the project. <![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> Rye Lane may be Raine Allen-Miller's feature directorial debut, but the director tells Total Film that she didn't always envision making a rom-com as her first movie when we meet her in a London hotel room. "I think it would have been the last type of film I'd want to make. If someo﷽ne said to me, 'Your first film will be a rom-com', I'd be depressed," she laughs. "Rom-com is the cheesiest genre ever normally, but I read [the script] and was like, 'Oh, God, this is actually quite funny,' and felt like I could🍌 add my flavor to it."

Rye Lane certainly has a flavor all its own – with the bulk of the action taking place over one tumultuous day, the movie follows Yas (Vivian Oparah) and Dom (Industry's David Jo🃏nsson), two newly single 20-somethings who are t☂hrown together after a chance encounter and embark on a chaotic journey around Peckham and Brixton in south London as they grapple with lost love and new feelings.

Like her director, the film's f🐲emale lead Oparah wasn't particularly enthusiastic about romantic comedies, either. "I'm not a huge rom-com fan. I've seen the classics, but it isn't the genre that I naturally gravitated towards, just because maybe I didn't feel like it was for me. I've seen the great films, but when you don't see yourself in a place, you're just like, 'Okay, I'm gonna go to look at aliens,'" she says, referring to her breakout role in Doctor Who spin-of𝓡f, Class. "But I was excited at the prospect of this quirky little Peckham rom-com."

She continues: "I was excited to play a character who was just so unapologetically messy. It was cathartic as a woman to just be like, 'You can be a mess, and you can be fun, and you can be scared.' I think you alwa♌ys want to play characters that have a lot of dimensions. But I was like, 'Me? In a rom-com?'. [But] Raine is a world builder and I wanted to be a part of any world that she was building, so it was just a no-brainer."

David Jonsson and Vivian Oparah in Rye Lane

Her co-star Jonsson adds: "You want to do new things as an actor, and I was like, I've not done anything like that before, probably a good shouꦦt, and Raine Allen-Miller is honestly just an absolute genius. Then, meeting Viv, [I thought] this sꦍhould be cool. It might not work, but it might be cool."

The pair did chemistry reads with other actors before they ended up in a room together, but they clicked immediately. "I got in the room with David and I was like, 'Damn it, he's so good,'" Oparah laughs. "I was like, 'He knows Dom,' and I loved playing Yas because I could just throw loads of curveballs and he absolutely was just knocki♉ng back." Jonsson agrees: "When we had that chemistry that was kind of undeniable and our director was sat, like, curled in a ball, she was so happy. It was instant from that point."

While the movie is ostensibly a love story between its two leads, it's also a love letter to an area of London that isn't often portrayed on screen. British rom-coms of the '90s and '00s tended to favor wealthier backdrops like the grand Georgian terraces of 📖Notting Hill and tourist-friendly central London. A previous version of the film's script, written by screenwriters Nathan Byron and Tom Melia before Allen-Miller came on board, saw the movie set in Camden, a borough in north London, 🧸but she was adamant that had to change.

"I said, 'We need to change it to south London.' That was a really big thing for me, I wouldn't have done it if I couldn't have changed it to south London," the director, who's lived south of the Thames since adolescence, explains. "It's such an important place for me. I also felt like the simplicity of the scri😼pt, placed in south London, would have worked really well as an opportunity to add Brixton and Peckham as a third character."

Watching the film, it's obvious that south London is not only a character💝 within the story, but it's also been treated with love and care behind the camera. "One of the most important things was that we supported the local businesses and represented it in a way that feels really real," Allen-Miller explains, mindful of the gentrification that has been impacting the area for several decades now. "It wasn't about going to the swanky restaurant that's only been there for two years. It was about showing it exactly as it is and being as authentic as possible. I wasn't trying to hide from the fact that there's probably an oat milk flat white shop around the corner – that exists, and that's there, and I also like a flat white every now and again. It was just a case of trying to find places that felt real."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> At first blush, Somebody I Used to Know sounds like your typical romcom. Workaholic Ally (Alison Brie) returns 🐼to her picturesque hometown after her career falls apart and renews acquaintances with💮 her ex, Sean (Jay Ellis).

Except, this isn’t your Hallmark happily ever after. Sean is getting hitched to pop🔯 punk singer Cassidy (Kiersey Clemons) – the ‘somebody I used to know’ of the piece, who finds herself at a similar crossroads to the one Ally faced years prior. What follows is a romcom that doesn꧅’t so much as subvert the genre, as move it past its lovey-dovey origins.

To talk about the new Prime Video release, we sat down with Brie – who co-wrote the movie with her husband Dave Franco – and co-star Danny Pudi. From rekindling their Community chemistry, to playing with tropes, and even addressing romcom’s sudden revival, the pair dig d🐷eep into a genre that audiences are falling in love with once more.

The interview has been 🌠edited for length and clarity.

Somebody I Used to Know

Somebody I Used to Know turns the premise of going back to a hometown and bumping into an ex on its head. It’s almost an anti-Hallmark movie. Alison, you co-wrote the movie with your husband. Was it always your intention to subvert those tropes - and what did you want to explore with that?

Alison Brie: Yeah, I think so. Dave [Franco, Alison’s husband] and I, in all our writing, are always trying to play with the form a little bit and have some surprises. With this one, we really wanted to channel all of the tropes from our favori𒁏te 80s and 90s romcoms and pay homage to them while at the same time, hope▨fully, injecting the characters with something that's updated for our current time and subverting expectations a little bit.

I think that if you read the premise ওof thi♉s movie, it certainly sounds like something that you've seen before. But I think audiences will be surprised… it has some unexpected twists and turns.

You mentioned the romcoms of the 80s and 90s. It almost feels like we’re going full circle. Maybe not quite at the heyday of Matthew McConaughey in the early noughties with romcoms, but we’re not far off. Danny, why do you think the genre is making a comeback?

Danny Pudi: I think that there is a good feeling that you have at the end of this movie. There’s something nice about being able to go on a journey where many of us have gone throug🐓h - where you have to revisit the past. Wheth🌱er that's going to your high school reunion or going back to your small town, that's something very familiar.

I think right now, iꦇt’s nice to have movie🐟s that make you feel good walking out of the theater. It’s got that. It’s got this ensemble, throwback feel of checking in the past of your buddies and feeling good about it.

Alison Brie: I think the romcom genre is as old as filmmaking itself and will always continue to come back around. People love love stories. That&🌸apos;s the tale as old🎐 as time: human beings are drawn to one another, we love to fall in love. So we love to watch stories about people falling in love.

Every generation is going to update the genre in their own way. What we’re seeing now is the coo𒉰l, edgy taste level. Those are the people who are deciding to dip back into making romcoms. I think about movies like The Big Sick or Palm Spr📖ings or Fire Island, just like a lot of new fresh perspectives on the genre and it's so welcome.

Can we all just admit that rom coms are our favorite comfort movies? Those are the movies we go ๊back to watching again and again, and not be embarrassed by it. It’s in those moments where really thoughtful, progressive filmmakers are tapping back into the genre. I think that's why we're seeing such great romcoms right now.

Somebody I Used to Know

I want to talk about Benny’s friendship with Ali. Another movie might have gone down the ‘will they/won’t they?’ path. It’s a male-female friendship you don’t often see in the genre. Could you speak about that friendship, what it adds to the movie, and how it separates itself from other romcoms?

Danny Pudi: Well, when thi𓃲s role was first presented to me as ‘Danny.’♊ [laughs]

It was very much a reflection of our real relationship. Alison and I are super tighꦍt, we’ve grown super close over the years and we've always had just like this really great friendship. It’s just kind of acceptance, it's trust, we've kind of [both]🐬 gone through things. She was there when my wife and I had kids; on the set of Community; I was at her wedding.

There's a🐭ll these moments that we've been through with each other off camera. And it was nice to actually just bring our true friendship, that kind of energy, and add that dynamic into ꦅthe film.

I do feel like there is this thread oღf a friendship and like ‘How do you be a good friend through all these chaotic moments?’ I was thrilled to be💙 a part of it and so excited when Dave and Alison wrote it for me.

Alison Brie: Danny has definitely☂ given me his share of relationship advice in the pre-Dave days. And you just can't fake that history that we have. So it was really fun that Danny said yes and agreed to do the role. Dave, really, just let us play and have fun. We haven't been on set together since Community and we were back to our old antics. Dave left a lot of them in the movie, which is fun.

There’s one scene I want to talk about where Ally takes the stage and starts freestyle singing. Alison, you have a fearsome reputation for freestyle raps on the set of Community…

Alison Brie: You can’t escape your past…

How much of that was off the cuff?

Alison Brie: We definitely wrote that out for the m♔ovie, because it had 🌼to be to the beat of that Third Eye Blind song. So that was really carefully crafted by Dave and I ahead of shooting. Although there was a brief moment where we thought we weren't gonna get the rights to the Third Eye Blind song. There was this panic of Dave and I trying to fit the lyrics into, like, a Chumbawamba song... I feel like I'm glad it wasn't ‘Tubthumping’.

I think the message of the movie is a super healthy one - about letting go and moving on. So we have Valentine's Day coming up: What message do you hope people, both singles and couples, take away from the movie?

Alison Brie: Something about communication, right? People need to be open with each other and talk about where they’re coming from. Also tapping into your own personal joy, finding the things you’re passionate about. Hopefully people will take away - whether they’re in a relationship or not - that it’s never too lat♌e to tap back into those things that bring you joy. Hopefully the person you’re with is supportive of that.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> Jennifer Lopez is back in the rom-com game. Her latest movie, Shotgun Wedding, arrives on Prime Video next week and the first reviews are in – but they're a little lukewarm. The movie follows a couple (played by Lopez and Josh Duhamel) who gather their families for the ultimate destination wedding, just when they both start getting cold feet about their relationship. As if that wasn't stressful enough, the rom-com takes a tuܫrn when the entire party is taken hostage and their lives are suddenly all in danger.

The movie is helmed by 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore and the cast also includes Jennifer Coolidge, Lenny Kravitz, and D'Ar𓆉cy Carden. But what ♊are the critics saying about Shotgun Wedding?

's Pete Hammond writes that the movie is "a frenetic action comedy that never puts on the brakes. It is a wild ride no doubt, but it isn't the kind of wedding to which I need to be invited any tꩲime soon."

"Shotgun Wedding amounts to an action 🐎romantic comedy in which the action is uninspired, the romance tepid and the comedy flat – such that not even rom-com queen Jennifer Lopez can elevate it above aggressive mediocrity," says 's Angie Han.

's Tania Hussain is more positive, saying: "Sure, it has a few pacing issues and is formulaic from the get-go, but it's still, by rom-com standards, a naturally easy-bree🎃zy movie that takes fans on a trip to the delightfull𝄹y sweet and balanced shrine of Lopez's earliest submissions in the genre."

"There are some nice gags here, and smart twists from screenwriter Mark ♎Hammer, and some funny supporting turns," echoes 's Peter Bradshaw.

However, 's Guy Lodge questions the movie's politics, writing: "Sometimes feeling like an episode of The White Lotus directed by Sylvester Stallone, Shotgun Wedding reverses the eat-the-rich sentiment recently popularized by that TV phenomenon, along with last year’s caustic One Percent satires Triangle of Sadness and The Menu. This tim🌃e, the rich folks fight back. Perhaps some viewers will cheer them on."

Shotgun Wedding arrives on Prime Video on January 27. In the meantime, check out our picks of the best 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:upcoming movies coming our way in 2023 and beyond.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> What's all the hype about a holiday rom-com? Aren&a⭕pos;t there a million of those? Sure, but this isn't just any rom-com:๊ Falling for Christmas is Lindsay Lohan's comeback movie, and the beginning of a new chapter in her very long career.

The film, which stars Lohan as a newly engaged, spoiled heiress who gets into a skiing accident and fi💛nds herself in the car of a handsome, blue-collar lodge owner (Glee star Chord Overstreet), debuted with an 80% on Rotten Tomatoes.

“I wanted to do something where people felt like I hadn’t left. You know a lot🐻 of people say ‘comeback🐻’ and stuff, and that puts a lot of pressure on the situation, and I’m not one that wants attention," .

' for the Christmas flick, a song she also pꦛerformed in Mean Girls. She reportedly pitched the song for Falling for Christmas𓂃 as a nod to her role in Tina Fey's iconic high school comedy.

"Falling For Christmas i🧜s incredible! I loved every second of🌼 it! Lindsay Lohan is well and truly back!" one Twitter user.

"Watched Falling For Christmas with a couple of friends and when I tell you the second Lindsay Lohan showed up on screen you could feel the presence of a movie star. We don’t have man🥀y of those anymore. This is a new beginning for her and I can’t wait to see what comes next," one viewer .

"Lindsay Lohan turning her whole life around and cominꦿg back to be a wholesome Christmas queen is my🉐 absolute favorite thing ever," another.

"Seeing Lindsay Lohan thriving in Falling for Christmas brought me an unexpected sense of joy," writer ✨Dan🍬a Piccoli .

"I’m just glad she’s acting again. She was always a truly talented actor and I th🔴ink that’s so lost in the conversation about her. The fact that she’s in a place where she can just get back to doing her job and doing it well is so encouraging," someone in reply to Picco🌞li's tweet.

Spoiler alert: Santa makes an apಞpearance, and he's a little unsettling.

Fa🐻lling for Christm♍as is streaming now, only on Netflix. Lohan signed a two-picture deal with Netflix, meaning we might be getting a sequel.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> Bros star and co-writer Billy Eichner has shared his thoughts on his gay rom-com's disappointing box office performance in the US, citing a lack of space for openly LGBTQ act🥃ors to become movie stars in Hollywood.

The movie, which was initially released in the US on September 30, made $4.9 million in its opening weekend at the box office, despite 🅰projections of between $8 and 10 mill𝕴ion. Its Stateside total is $11 million against a budget of $22 million.

"Bros at the movie theatre was always goiไng to be an uphill battle. You have an R-rated gay rom-com with an all-openly LGBT cast, which we were so proud of, but one that doesn't feature Julia Roberts an🌟d George Clooney and big straight movie stars," Eichner tells the .

"And there's a reason for that – Hollywood, up un♒til very recently, has not created an environment where you could have a lot of openly LGBTQ movie stars. So if you're never going to make an LGBTQ movie star, how are you going to have one who can open a movie at the box office?"

Bros stars Eichner alongside Luke Macfarlane as two commitment-phobic gay men in New York City trying to make a new, tentative relationship work. Eichner's character Bobby is an outspoken podcaster and writer on th෴e board of America's first LGBTQ history museum, desperately trying to raise funds for its opening, while Macfarlane's Aaron is a buff lawyer who's unhappy with his career ๊path and unsatisfied with his life.

Eichner continues: "The🤪 vast majority of the people that did go see the movie in theaters in America were gay men, because it's coming from a need to see themselves reflected. I think many of them were gay men of a certain generation, my generation and maybe even older, who haven't had that opportunity and who didn't grow up with as much queer content as we're getting now, on streaming and online. It depends what your perspective is going into it. But hopefully, as more and more of this content gets made, the audience at large just becomes more comfortable with it and more familiar with it. That's not to say people are homophobic, that's just to say they might not immediately think that it's something they can relate to."

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> Ryan Gosling has revealed that his version of Ken iꦜs "going through som𝔉e stuff" in Barbie.

"That Ken life is even harder 🧜than the Gray Man life, I think," Gosling said in an interview with , referring to his upcoming Netflix action thriller. "Ken’s got no money, he’s got no job, he’s got no car, he’s got no house. He’s going through some stuff."

Plot details of the movie are otherwise being kept tightly under wraps, and Gosling is keeping things vague. He added: "It’s not what you think it is, unless it is. And then you 🔥know what it is, but I don’t think that’s what you think it is."

Margot Robbie is playing Barbie alongside Gosling's Ken. The movie's supporting cast includes Will Ferrell, who's playing the CEO of a toy company (that may or may not be Barbie manufacturer Mattel), along with Sim൲u Liu, America Ferrera, Michael Cera, Issa Rae, Emma Mackey, and more.

Barbie will be directed by Greta Gerwig and it's her first movie since 2019's 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Little Women. <![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> After the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:fi🌜rst look at M🎃argot Robbie's Barbie was released earlier ♒this year, we now have a new image of Ryan Gosling as the doll's famous love-interest, Ken.

Gosling&ap🔯os;s seen sporting an open denim jacket, showcasing his notably un-hairy chest, and blue jeans (double denim making a comeback?). His boxers – branded simply "Ken" in the style of Calvin Klein – are also poking out, while Gosling has bleach blond hair – slightly cleaner than ♌his look in The Place Beyond the Pines. Check out the full image below.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> Greta Gerwig's li🌄ve-action Barbie movie will reportedly include multiple, diverse versions of Barbie and Ken, according to New York Times reporter Kyle Buchanan.

While the film is set to star Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, that there are multiple versions of the iconic characters. Cannes gossip suggests that Issa Rae (Insecure) and Hari Nef (Transparent) also play Barbie, while Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) and Ncuti Gatwa (who was just announced as the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:new Doctor in Doctor Who) also play Ken.

All four actors were previously confirmed🥃 as supporting cast members for the Barbie film, but if the rumors are true this could be a huge shake-up f🌌or the canonically white and cis-presenting characters. Issa Rae is black and of Senegalese descent, Hari Nef is an openly transgender woman, Simu Liu is Chinese-Canadian, and Ncuti Gatwa is Rwandan-Scottish. Diverse versions of iconic characters are always great to see, so it'll be interesting if these rumors are true.

The other ⛦supporting cast members include Will Ferrell (who is playing the CEO of a toy company, because of course he is), Michael Cera, America Ferrara, and Emma Mackey.

We don't have any plot details, but we know that Gerwig (Lady Bird, Little Women) has written the script alongside Noah Baumbach. The pair have worked together several🥃 times before on films like Greenberg, Frances Ha, Mistress America, and White Noise.

In April 2022, that the film would include a "meta element" that could very w🐼ell explain the multiple versions of Barbie and Ken. Welcome to the Barbieverse; I, for one, can't wait to find out more.

The live-action Barbie movie is due out on July 23, 2023. It just shot to the top of our list of most exciting 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:upcoming movies

25. My Best Friend's Wedding

The romance: Three weeks before her 28th birthday, food critic Julianne Potter (Julia Roberts) receives a phone call from her oldest friend Michael (Dermot ꦿMulroney), telling her of his upcoming nuptials to the 20-year-old Kimmy (Cameron Diaz). Regardless, Jules is hell bent on keeping a pact the two made in college; if they aren't married by 28, they marry each other. Yeah, 28 is OLD in this movie.

Why it wooed us: This is as mainstream as rom-coms get. A starry cast, big-budget, and an amorous dil♑emma. Yet My Best Friend's Wedding approaches the setup from a fresher, less obvious angle. We don't always side with our heroine, and Kimmy, the woman we ought to despise? She's an absolute hoot!

24. Roxanne

The romance: The owner of a sizeable facial appendage, Charlie Bales (Steve Martin) tends to strike out with women: in particular, town newcoꦫmer Roxanne (Daryl Hannah). When she shows interest in one of Charlie's co-workers, the dim-witted Chris (Rick Rossovich), Charlie lends a hand, writing love letters on his behalf, confessing his love for her vicariously.

Why it wooed us: Released at a time when Martin's output was at its peak, Roxanne tre𒁃ads the path between oddꦺ, tender and sweet. The overall message? Love comes in all shapes (ahem) and sizes (ahem... again).

23. Enough Said

The romance: After being introduced at a party, masseuse divorcee Eva (Julia Louis Dreyfus) begins dating Albert (James Gandolf🍒ini). Even in the early stages, their relationship holds promise. That is until Eva realises her latest client Marianne (Catherine Keener), an enigmatic poet journeying through her own divor😼ce, is Albert's ex-wife. Unsurprisingly, it gets a bit awkward.

Why it wooed us: Thank goodness, another smart, witty romantic comedy revolving around people over 💖the age of forty. It works so🅺 well thanks to the chemistry between Dreyfus and Gandolfini.

22. Love, Simon

The romance: A coming-of-age high school movie about a gay teenager who ente🐻rs into an online relationship with a mystery classmate, while trying to navigate the various perꦬils of high school.

Why it wooed us: Love, Simon is one of the most relatable high school movies in years, and it also just so happens to be groundbreaking in its depiction of a gay character in a mainstream teen flick. Director Greg Berlanti (best known for his TV work on The Flash) treats all of his characters with empathy, but Nick Robinson is a revelation as Simon. It’s a joy to watch the romantic mystery unfold, with unexpected surprises and second-guessed assumptions. Expect some tear-jerking moments along the way – this is a big-hearted hug of a movie that’ll leave yo♉u grinning ear-to-ear.

21. 10 Things I Hate About You

The romance: Cameron James (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is head-over-heels for Bianca Stratford (Larisa Oleynik). Due to a stipulation by her fat🌌her, Bianca can only date if her angsty sister Kat (Julia Stiles) does. So Cameron tries to convince the mysterious Patrick Verona (Heath Ledger) to date Kat. This is Shakespeare, so there ar🌠e more entanglements, but you get the gist.

Why it wooed us: A modern take on The Bard's The🌺 Taming of the Shrew updated to a Seattle high school, the movie has a superb leading cast, all at the start of their careers. But its Allison Janney🐻 as the smut-scribing guidance counsellor who absolutely steals the movie.

20. Trainwreck

The romance: Having been taught from a young age that monogamy isn't realistic, magazine writer Amy (Amy Schumer) lives a life free from romantic commitment. That is until she finds herself falling for the subject of a new article she𓆉's writing, sports doctor Aaron (Bill Hader).

Why it wooed us: Though it ends up being a lot more conventional than its set-up suggests, the winning central pairing of Schumer and Hader ensures that even classic tropes feel fresh. A consistently funny and genuinely affecting modern romcom that also delivers the most awkward cheerleader routine ever and a practically unrecognisable Tilda Swinton as Am✱y's barmy editor.

19. The Princess Bride

The romance: The beautiful Bu𒁃ttercup (Robin Wright) falls for farmhand Westley (Cary Elwes), who vows to seek 🌺his fortune before returning to marry her. When his ship is attacked by Dread Pirate Roberts (also Elwes) she believes he has perished and marries the insufferable Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon). When a mysterious Man In Black comes to rescue her after Humperdinck has her kidnapped, he bears a striking resemblance to a young farm boy...

Why it wooed us: Rob 𝓰Reiner's fantasy rom-com mocks the typical swashbuckling fare which preceded it. It pushes William Goldman's screenplay to the hilt with super-quotable dialogue that still holds fಞast for fans.

18. Chasing Amy

The romance: Comic book creator Holden McNeil (Ben Affleck) meets fellow author Alyssa Jones (Joey Lauren Adams) and is immediately sꦍmitten. The pair hit it off – banter, laughs, the whole shebang. The twist in the tale? She's a lesbian.

Why it wooed us: Tackling a frankly tricky topic – the fluidity of sexual identity, contemporary masculinity – it still holds up as a funny as hell dive into modern romance. Points awarded for to Alyssa on their way home from dinner: moving, funny, and pr✱obably Kevin Smith's best monologue ever scripted. Well, to Holden's prying, later on, comes pretty damn close to topping it actually.

17. Moonstruck

The romance: Sicilian New York widow Loretta (Cher) is set to marry J⛦ohnny Cammareri (Danny Aiello) – a man she likes but doesn't love – much to the enthusia💛sm of her parents. With Johnny back in Italy, he urges her to contact his younger, feisty brother Ronny (Nicolas Cage) to invite him to the wedding. They drive each other up the wall, which can only mean one thing, right? Cue fireworks.

Why it wooed us: The relationship between Loretta and h♉er father Cosmo (Vincent Gardenia) is a treat. Their digs at each other are the foundation of the movie's chuckles.

16. The Wedding Singer

The romance: Jilted wedding singer Robbie Hart (Adam Sandler) befriends waitress Julia Sullivan (Drew Barrymore) during the run-up to her wedding to prized douche Glenn Gulia (M💫atthew Glave). With Robbie's help finalising the details for the big day, the two grow closer. Julia thinks she might be marrying the wrong man, a feeling Robbie soon shares as he uncovers Glenn's infidelity...

Why it wooed us: This i༒s Sandler at his absolute best: funny, compassionate and𝄹 inherently likeable. Twinned with Barrymore's charming and goofy Julia, the pair's crazy chemistry harks back to Hollywood's golden era.

15. Sixteen Candles

The romance: Samantha's (Molly Ringwald) 16th birthday turns out to be less sweet than anticipated. The object of her affection, th💦e hunky Jake Ryan (Michael Schoeffling), has gotten wind that she's nuts about him, the school geek (Antho🧸ny Michael Hall) is trying to get into her knickers, and no-one has remembered her birthday...

Why it wooed us: John Hughes' teen romance is over 30 y🌠ears old and still gives more recent high school flicks a run for their money. A good dose of one-liners, a charming central performance from Ringwald, and two guys vying for a woman's attention. It's the perfect rom-com formula.

14. There's Something About Mary

The romance: Super-nerd Ted (Ben Stiller) tries to reconnect with his high school crush Mary (Cameron Diaz), years after an embarrassing incident with 🍸his zipper. When he hires slimy private detective, Healy (Matt Dillon) to track her down, it turns out there's more than one chap after her heart.

Why it wooed us: The Farrellys balance gr🔯oss-out humour (getting one's genitals trapped in a ♈zip) with a bubbling romance at the centre of a romcom that's a rare breed of sweet and silly.

13. The Lady Eve

The romance: Rich beer company heir Char🌄les Pike (Henry Fonda) boards a cruise liner after a year down the Amazon. Before he's barely aboard, card shark Jean Harrington (Barbara Stanwyck) and her father peg him as an easy mark and set about scamming him of his riches. All's fair in love and war; Jean begins to regret their plan when her intentions for Charles switch from duplicitous to romantic...

Why it wooed us: Fonda's a delight to watch as the unsuspecting buffoon falling for th🅘e wily charms of Stanwyck. Twice. Responsible for kickstarting the 'battle of the sexes' rom-com.

12. Pretty Woman

The romance: Classy hooker Vivian Ward (J🍌ulia Roberts) takes up with rich businessman Edward Lewis (Richard Gere) after taking advice from her quick-witted roommate Kit (Laura San Giacomo) that Lewis could become an established client. Hiring her to be his escort for the wee💦k, Edward and Vivian begin to foster feelings that go far beyond nookie.

Why it wooed us: This was the performance that catapulted Roberts into the mainstream💮 and into the public's hearts. And it's not hard to see why.

11. Amelie

The romance: Romantic dreamer Amelie (Audrey Tautou) discovers a box of hidden treasures in her apartment and vows to return them to their owner. It sparks a new zest for life, and a mission to hel🎃p others realise their dreams. But what about Amelie's own happiness🐠? There's a man about town she keeps bumping into...

Why it wooed us: This bustling feel-good movie is more than a mere romantic𓄧 comedy. You'll be sm✨iling along with Amelie and holding out for the moment she takes her own advice.

10. Four Weddings and a Funeral

The romance: Hugh Grant's bumbling Brit Charles meets suave American Carrie (Andie Macdowell) at a series of social gatherings. They spend the night together, after which Carrie flies home to the U.S. to prepare for her own wedding to rich Scot Sir Hamish Banks (Corin Redgrave). Charles buries his feelings fo🍸r Carrie and plans to marries his ex, Henrietta (Anna Chancellor). That is, until Carrie turns upᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚ at the church...

Why it wooed us: A romcom classic, Four Weddings was the first time all the staple elements of British comedy melded together perfectly; a st🐻ellar cast, a cracking script and a slew of hilarious one-liners.

9. High Fidelity

The romance: Record shop owner Rob (John Cusack) takes a trip down memory lane after his girlfriend Laura (Iben Hjejle) breaks up with him. While fighting o✅ff hideous visions of Laura having the best sex ever with new boyfriend Ian (Tim Robbins), Rob tracks down a series of exes to discover why exactly they ended things. Why? To win back Laura, of course.

Why it wooed us: It reinvents a ton of rules that romcoms💃 are often weakened by (breaking the fourth wall, two bickering, 🌳bantering side-kick employees Jack Black and Todd Louiso) and Cusack is never-better as anti-hero Rob. It's a cult classic for a reason, and it has a killer soundtrack.

8. Bridget Jones's Diary

The romance: Perpetual singleton Bridget (Renee Zellweger) is desperate to find the perfect man. Fate throws two potential suitors💦 her way in the form of lecherous sc꧂hmooze Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) and stuffy dullard Mark Darcy (Colin Firth).

Why it wooed us: The big-screen adaptation of Helen Fielding's pioneering chick-lit accomplished what many comedies geared at women fail to do – make us laugh. Zellweger is perfectly cast, dropping all traces of her Texan drawl, bringing to life th𝓀e hilariously flawed Bridget.

7. His Girl Friday

The romance: Boorish-yet-somehow-utterly-charming editor Walter Burns (Cary Grant) chucks a spanner in the works of his ex-wife Hildy Johnson's (✨Rosalind Russell) imminent second marriage to Bruce Baldwin (Ralph Bella✃my). Tempting the former newshound reporter with a murder story, she's helpless to say no, especially when there's a promising scoop at stake.

Why it wooed us: Grant's banter with Russell at the table, while endlessly quizzing her new fi꧋ance, is hysteric💦al. His fast-paced rap-dialogue and Russell's slapstick make this an affair to remember.

6. The Philadelphia Story

The romance: Wealthy Philadelphia It girl, Tracy Samantha Lord Haven (Katharine Hepburn) finds herself at the centre of a four-way romantic tangle on the eve of her second set of nuptials. With the arrival of her first husband, the witty C.K. Dexter Haven (Cary Grant) comes fast-talkin' reporter Macauley (James Stewart) to cover the events of her wedding to reliable George Kittredge (John 🐭Howard).

Why it wooed us: Grant and Stewart f🐬ighting for a woman's affections, using two completely different ap🍷proaches, remains absolutely classic.

Continue to Page 3 for more of the best rom-coms

5. Sleepless in Seattle

The romance: Widower Sam Baldwin (Tom Hanks) opens his heart after his wife&🐟apos;s death live on radio, at the urging of his son Jonah. When Annie (Meg Ryan) hears his story, she re-evaluates her engagement and scribbles a letter to Sam asking him to meet her at the top of the Empire State Building...

Why it wooed us: Nora Ephron's tale is now almost 30 years old, and had all the hallmarks of being a classic even then. It'🎃s funny and warm without drowning in schmaltz. Hanks and Ryan's palpable chemistry is a remarkable feat considering they barely share any scꦯreentime.

4. Some Like it Hot

The romance: J𝓰azz musicians Joe (Tony Curtis) and Jerry (Jack Lemmon) end up on the run af🥀ter witnessing the St. Valentines Day massacre. Masquerading as buxom women, they hide out as members of touring all-female music troupe, Sweet Sue's Society Syncopators – where they meet Sugar Kane (Marilyn Monroe), a breathy singer who they each attempt to woo. In disguise...

Why it wooed us: Billy Wilder pulled out 🐎all the stops at a time when censors frowned upon any kind of sexual tomfoolery. Shocking the MPAA with his tale of two transvestites after a bit of hot totty while escaping the clutches of the law, there's no finer environment for Curtis and Lemmons' comedic skills.

3. Annie Hall

The romance: Neurotic comedian Alvy Singer (Woody Allen) explores the doomed nature of his past romantic relationships, in particular his most re🎶cent paramour, Annie (Diane Keaton🍷). The two meet through friends, and embark on what Alvy considers to be an unusual relationship. She's a free-spirited hipster while he remains the introspective analyst.

Why it wooed us: The subtitled scene following the pairs initial meeting, on a Manhattan rooftop, is pure cinema gold: a sterling example of Allen's quick wit. While Annie and Alvy are conducting a seemingly trivial conversation concerning a date,𒀰 subtitles flash up to reveal what's actually being conveyed.

2. It Happened One Night

The romance: Snobby socialite Ellen Andrews (Claudette Colbert) goes on the lam, relinqui𓄧shing her rights as heir to the family fortune to elope with her new spouse. On the way, she meets and falls for the 🍌charms of a no-nonsense journalist Peter Warne (Clark Gable) during a cross-country trip.

Why it wooed us: The original rom-com, Frank Capra's flick is a landmark 'screwball' comedy. It introduced t🐬he now-popular formula of a mismatched couple who eventually fall in love.

1. When Harry Met Sally

The romance: Wise-crackin' Harry (Billy Crystal) and the progressive Sally (Meg Ryan) strike up a fiery friendship during a rideshare home from university, which ignites a series of chance meetings. Across a little more than a decade, the two challenge each other, bicker, disagꦑree, yet continue to be drawn together.

Why it wooed us: Bas🐓ed on the real-life tribulation♉s of director Rob Reiner following his divorce, it was and still is a refreshing romantic comedy. The combo of Crystal and Ryan revived a gasping genre, exploiting the differences between the sexes to killer effect with heaps of guffaws that never seem contrived. And of course, there's Ryan's scene in the deli, making men (and women) the world over stand up and take notice.

19. Falling for Christmas

Lindsay Lohan as Sierra Belmont and Chord Overstreet as Jake Russell in the Netflix Christmas movie, Falling For Christmas.

Year: 2022
Director: Janeen Damian
Available on: Netflix US/UK

Lindsay Lohan was long overdue for a comeback, and it seems she has chosen schmaltzy Christmas rom-coms as her medium of choice. Who can blame her when the formula works so well? Lohan takes the lead role in this festiv🍌e romance, portraying an heiress who ends up with amnesia after a skiing accident shortly after getting engaged.

She's taken care of by Chord Overstreet's – best known up to this point as Sam from Glee – handsome lodge owner, along with his daughter, and settles into her new life without her memories as Christmas approaches. As you might imagine, though, her old life is just around the corner and rudely muscles into the utopian, snowy romance. It's undemanding stuff, but it's worth a watch – not leas▨t for the most obvious kissing stunt double in movie history. It has to be seen to be believed.

18. Single All the Way

Year: 2021
Director: Michael Mayer
Available on: Netflix US/UK

If a heart-warming rom-com is what you're looking for, then Single All the Way is the film for you. This movie follows Peter, a man who is hassled by his family about still being single every Christmas. Peter brings his best friend Nick home for the holidays with the plan to trick his family with a fake relationship, but before the ruse can be set in pꦰlace, Peter ends up going on a blind date.

Cue matchmaking shenanigans as the family try to get Nick and Peter together, but will they succeed? There's nothing better than curling up on the ꦇsofa with a cheesy Christmas rom-com – and this one even has Jennifer 🦩Coolidge!

17. Hot Frosty

Lacey Chabert as Kathy Barrett talking to a snowman during the Netflix Christmas movie, Hot Frosty.

Year: 2024
Director: Jerry Ciccoritti
Available on: Netflix US/UK

Lindsay Lohan took her turn as a Netflix Christmas movie star, so her Mean Girls frenemy Lacey Chabert obviously had to follow suit. Chabert's festive outing for꧂ the streamer comes with a truly ludicrous concept. ওShe plays a widowed cafe owner who places a scarf on a muscular snowman one night, only for it to come to life in the luscious-haired form of Dustin Milligan.

Netflix has perfected its festive formula at this point and Hot Frosty m🍒ight be the ultimate example of its high-concept seasonal silliness in action. When cheese is this aware of its owꦍn cheesiness, it can only be a joyous experience. It's difficult to know where they can go from sexy snowmen. They've set a pretty high bar.

16. A Castle for Christmas

Brooke Shields as Sophie Brown and Cary Elwes as Myles in the Netflix Christmas movie, A Castle for Christmas.

Year: 2021
Director: Mary Lambert
Available on: Netflix US/UK

Another Christmas movie with a classic rom-com setup, this film sees a bestselling author named Sophie, played by Brooke Shields, retreat to a castle in Scotland after her last book prompted a scandal. Her grandfather once worked there as a groundskeeper, and while the castle i𝓰s perfect, the owner, played by Cary Elwes – this time not chopping his foot off with a rusty tool like he did in Saw, sadly – is not. The castle is up for sale, but the catch is, Elwes' character won't be leaving – and is scheming to force Sophie out instead.

The most interesting thing about this movie is that director Mary Lambert is best known for helming some of the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best horror movies, including the 1989 adaptation o๊f P🅷et Sematary, that film's sequel, and also the brilliantly-named Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge. After all of that, she can be forgiven for needing to spend some time in Christmas cardigans.

15. Father Christmas is Back

Father Christmas is Back

Year: 2021
Director: Philippe Martinez and Mick Davis
Available on: Netflix US/UK

Father Christmas is Back focuses on a big family gathering for the holiday season, but, as you might expect, nothing runs smoothly once everyone is together. The Christmas family (yes, that's really their name) is led by four sisters who don't get along,🧸 and things are made extra complicated by their long-lost dad returning for the festivities. Plus, there's a secret just waiting to be unearthed.

The real draw to this British comedy, though, is a star-studded cast packed full to the brim with people who've made us laugh consistently over the years – from comedy movie stalwarts to sitcom kings and queens. The exciꦫting ensemble includes Elizabeth Hurley, John Cleese, Kelsey Grammer, Caroline Quentin, and Kris Marshall – last seen at Christmas wowing Americans with his British accent in Love Actually.

Year: 2020
Director: David E. Talbert

13. The Knight Before Christmas

Vanessa Hudgens as Brooke Winters and Josh Whitehouse as Sir Cole Lyons of Norwich in the Netflix Christmas movie, The Knight Before Christmas.

Year: 2019
Director: Monika Mitchell
Available on: Netflix US/UK

A time-traveling love story starring Vanessa Hudgens, this Netflix original sees a knight sent from medieval times to the present day – where he meets a woman searching for her very own knight in shining armor. While running over your soulmate might not be the meet-cute everyone dreams of, this film still manages to be packed with plenty to love. It even comes with a Marvel-esque post-cred🍬its scene for those who want to whet their appetites for future festive knight adventures.

As sweet as it is ridiculous – very much the Netflix trademark at this time of year – it's cheesy enough to🥃 be perfect for a quiet afternoon snuggled up with a hot chocolate this holiday season. After all, there might not be anyone better at th♕is unique sub-genre than Vanessa Hudgens. Speaking of which…

12. The Princess Switch

Vanessa Hudgens as Stacy De Novo and Lady Margaret Delacourt in the Netflix Christmas movie, The Princess Switch.

Year: 2018
Director: Mike Rohl
Available on: Netflix US/UK

Another Vanessa Hudgens-led entrant to the NHMU (Netflix Holiday Movie Universe), The Princess Switch's title kind of explains it all. An ordinary baker, played by ﷽Hudgens, switches places with a Duchess (also Hudgens, naturally). The two women slot into each other's lives and quickly discover they prefer their new situations to their old ones – including their respective love interests.

Things might play out pretty much exactly as you'd expect for a switcheroo like this,ꦿ but i✅t's still a holiday heart-warmer. And there's good news if you like the movie because it’s now part of a trilogy, followed by a pair of sequels featuring more of Hudgens in both of her festive roles. She really is the queen of Netflix Christmas movies.

11. That Christmas

A mom hugging her son in the snow during the Netflix Christmas movie, That Christmas.

Year: 2024
Director: Simon Otto
Available on: Netflix US/UK

Richard Curtis is responsible for one of the most controversial holiday classics of all time – the 2003 rom-com Love Actually. More than 20 years later, he's on much more wholeso🐲me form with this family adventure from Locksmith Animation. Curtis co-wrote the script based on his own trilogy of children's books, focusing on various Christmas stories in the fictional British seaside town of Wellington-on-Sea. It's Christmas Eve and a blizzard has descended, putting various fe🅺stive plans in peril.

The cast is full of big guns, including Brian Cox as Santa Claus 💟himself. Elsewhere, it's a dream for fans of British TV comedy – and indeed Doctor Who given the presence 🔯of Jodie Whittaker as a nurse forced to work over the holidays. That Christmas is overflowing with festive charm, and it looks pretty damn handsome too.

10. Holidate

Emma Roberts as Sloane Benson in the Netflix Christmas movie, Holidate.

Year: 2020
Director: John Whitesell
Available on: Netflix US/UK

Holidate stars Emma Roberts, Luke Bracey, and Wicked's on-stage supremo Kr♚istin Chenoweth. Our two protagonists – played by Roberts and Bracey – are both unlucky in love and, after meeting each other randomly, agree to be each other's fake date to deal with their overbearing families. The holidates stretch on beyond New Year, and genuine attachment starts to form – along with plenty of roadblocks. Can the couple figure out their true feelings eventually? Well, considering it's a Christmas rom-com, probably.

Look, nobody is trying to argue that these movies are breaking new gro🔥und. But when you put a lot of likeable and attractive people together into a heartfelt film, with a few Christmas tunes on the soundtrack, the result is very reliable indeed.

9. The Christmas Chronicles

Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn in The Christmas Chronicles 2.

Year: 2018
Director: Clay Kaytis
Available on: Netflix US/UK

What if Kurt Russell played Santa Claus as a sexy, rock n roll hero? That's the central idea at the heart of The Christmas Chronicles, which sees two kids accidentally destroy everyone's presents on Christmas Eve. Santa gets involved, which leads to an adventure to track down the presents, the missing reindeer, and Santa's magical hat. There's even a jailhouse music number in which Russell s🌃hows off his Elvis hips.

Goldie Hawn also has a cameo, if that wasn't already enough to convince you this 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:unconventional Christmas movie is definitely worth a watch this season. Plus, there's a surprising amount of heart in this edgy Santa flick, so it slots right into a marathon of the usual sugary-swe𒁃et festive fare. Did we mention that Santa Claus does a rock n roll musical number already? We did? Well, we're mentioning it again.

8. El Camino Christmas

Luke Grimes as Eric Norris in the Netflix Christmas movie, El Camino Christmas.

Year: 2017
Director: David E. Talbert
Available on: Netflix US/UK

If you fancy Christmas with a twist this year, look no further than El Camino Christmas. No, it's not a Breaking Bad festive special – although, feel fr♌ee to steal that idea if you’re from Netflix and happen to be reading this.

This is a dark comedy focusing on a man looking for his father, with the dad played by Tim Allen. Our protagonist, Eric (Luke Grimes,) ends up barr🦩icadedꦛ in a grocery store with a bunch of strangers, and things reach a violent conclusion. Vincent D'Onofrio and Jessica Alba also have roles in this grim festive film. If feel-good Christmas movies are your jam, it's best to leave this one out of your movie marathon. But if you don't mind a bit of darkness at the most wonderful time of the year, then come on in.

7. Robin Robin

Year: 2021
Director: Dan Ojari and Mikey Please
Available on: Netflix US/UK

Aardman Animation has formed a fruitful partnership with Netflix and, in 2021, the UK's premier stop-motion factory delivered a stunning short animated tale in Robin Robin. The music-infused tale runs for just 30 minutes, but tells a delightful story about a robꦕin brought up by a family of mice who goes on an adventure to show how good a mouse they are.

The film won an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Short Film and, in 2024, the directors revealed that they are working on more stories set within this world. If this lovely little blast of festive fun is anything to go by, there's p🔜lenty of storytelling magic on the way from the Robin Robin Cinematic Universe. With the creative geniuses at Aardman involved, the sky is the limit.

6. Dolly Parton's Christmas on the Square

Dolly Parton in Dolly Parton's Christmas on the Square

Year: 2020
Director: Debbie Allen
Available on: Netflix US/UK

It just wouldn't be Christmas without Dolly Parton, apparently. In fact, she wrote every single song on the soundtrack to this musical. The film co-stars Christina Baranski as a Scrooge-like figure who wants to kick everyone out of her hometown so she can sell the land – on Christmas Eve, no less. Parton plays an ang💫el, rather than a Ghost of Christmas Past/Present/Future, and the film is just as perfectly campy and cheesy as it sounds.

This is a definite heart-warmer and, if you're sick of humming the same old Christmas songs every year, this one's for you. There ar❀en't many real people walking this planet who are as magical as Dolly Parton, so she's perfectly suited for a festive tale.

5. A Christmas Prince

Rose McIver as Amber Eve Moore and Ben Lamb as Prince Richard Bevan Charlton in the Netflix Christmas movie, A Christmas Prince.

Year: 2017
Director: Alex Zamm
Available on: Netflix US/UK

The first film of the Christmas Prince trilogy – perhaps the ultimate example of the ౠNetflix Christmas movie formula in action – this is another tale of an ordinary woman and a prince falling in love. It's strange how often something like this seems to happen over the holiday season – on Netflix, especially. Prince Richard doesn't want🌸 his country’s throne, and Amber, a journalist posing as the princess's tutor, is trying to unravel why in the search for her big break.

Naturally, the two start to fall in love but, equally naturally, things aren't easy for the budding couple as their relationship has to navigate a lot of royal drama. If you love this film, the good news is there are two more available to stream afterward. So that's more than enough royal romance to keep you occupied for all of your present wrapping ti🦩me this year.

4. The Merry Gentlemen

Britt Robertson as Ashley cheering in a bar during the Netflix Christmas movie, The Merry Gentlemen.

Year: 2024
Director: Peter Sullivan
Available on: Netflix US/UK

Britt Robertson and Chad Michael Murray seem exactly the perfect combination of actors for a festive movie of this ilk, and they rise to the occasi𝓰on entirely in this slice of Christmas romance. In fact, this film pushes the formula even further by ensuring that there's not just one shirtless man to raise the temperature but a whole troupe of them.

Robertson plays the mastermind behind an all-male show ✨designed to save her parents' debt-ridden performance venue. Murray, meanwhile, is the incredibly muscular local handyman whose physique inspired her plan. Will they find some sort of romantic entanglement while putting the show together? If you're this far down the list, then you can almost certainly hazard a decent g🐼uess at the answer.

3. Family Switch

Jennifer Garner as Jess Walker in the Netflix Christmas movie, Family Switch.

Year: 2023
Director: McG
Available on: Netflix US/UK

This chaotic comedy sees a family descend into pure anarchy when a rare planetary alignment causes the pa﷽rents to swap bodies with their teenage kids. In a hilarious journey to try to reach normalcy once again, each family member must find their way back to their original bodies whilst learning more about the one they're in. So it's pretty much Freaky Friday, but sprinkled with tinsel and fairy lights.

Starring The Hangover's Ed Helms, Jennifer Garner, and Wednes💙day's Emma Myers, Family Switch is the perfect Christmas comedy to snuggle into after one too many glasses of egg nog on Christmas Eve. The reviews weren't particularly kind, but that's par for the course whe🦩n it comes to the holiday offering from Netflix.

2. Alien Xmas

An alien wearing a Santa outfit during the Netflix Christmas movie, Alien Xmas.

Year: 2020
Director: Stephen Chiodo
Available on: Netflix US/UK

A stop-motion animation, this is another unique Netflix original to enjoy this Christmas. At just 42 minutes, it can slot into any movie marathon – and you'll definitely want to give this one a go. It comes from ༒the mind of one of the Chi🀅odo Brothers – special effects and claymation specialists best known for the 1980s cult classic film Killer Klowns from Outer Space.

In Alien Xmas, an elf thinks a little alien is a Christmas gift, but as it turns out, the alien has big✃ plans for such a small creature. Not only does he want to take out Earth's gravity, but he also wants to steal all the presents. It's part of a larger plan to take all of Earth's "stuff" – but can the little alien learn the true meaning of Christmas in his adventures with his young friend?

1. Operation Christmas Drop

Kat Graham as Erica and Alexander Ludwig as Captain Andrew Jantz in the Netflix Christmas movie, Operation Christmas Drop.

Year: 2020
Director: Martin Wood
Available on: Netflix US/UK

Loosely based on the story of a real-life humanitarian mission, this is the sort of Christmas movie that won't leave a single dry eye in the house. Kat Graham plays a politician's assistant sent to a US Air Force base to justify its upcoming closure. There, she meets an incredibly handsome captain – played by Alexander Ludwig of The Hunger Games fame – and learns about the way the base sends ൲Christmas goods to people on 𓆉nearby islands each year.

Christmas romance stories are already pretty wholesome, but this one gets an extra blast of schmaltz from the undeniable emotional heft of its central premise. The fact it shines a spotlight on ༒the very real and very lovely tradition of Operation Christmas Drop is an adde🃏d bonus.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> Henry Cavill's next project is a bit of a change of pace from his usual action-heavy roles – the actor 🐭is set to star in new rom-com The Rosie Project, reports.

The movie follows a university professor (Cavill) who's unlucky in lo🔴ve and creates an elaborate questionnaire in an attempt to find a wife. However, when he meets an unconventional woman who doesn't meet any of his "requirements", he realizes she might be the perfect match for him. There's no word on who will play the woman in question yet, though.

Based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Gr🤡aeme Simsion, Steve Falk is writing and directing the flick. Simsion's book was followed by two sequels, with the final installment of the trilogy published in 2019, so if this movie is successful there's a chance we may be seeing more of Cavill in rom-com mode.

The Rosie Project has been in development for several years, with Jennifer Lawrence originally pegged to play the lead female role and both Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal have been in talks for Cavill's role at one point. (500) Days of Summer screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael H. W🐲eber wrote an early draft of the script.

Probably best known for playing Superman in the DCEU, most recently in Zack Snyder's Justice League, Cavill can next be seen on the small screen when he returns to the role of Geralt in 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:The Witcher season 2. His other recent big screen roles include 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Mission: Impossible – Fallout, the Netflix mystery 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Enola Holmes, and the psychological thriller Night Hunter.

Cavill's upcoming slate is looking pretty busy, too – another stint as Sherlock Holmes in Enola Holmes 2 is on the cards, and it was recently announced that he was joining Matthew Vaughn's new spy thriller alongside a star-studded cast that includes Bryan Cranston, Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Catherine O’Hara, and John Cena. And, of course, The Wit🦋cher🍒 is likely to run for a few more seasons, too.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> Bewitched is a beloved hallmark show recently referenced in Marvel’s Disney Plus series 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:WandaVision. Perhaps i🌸t’s a mere coincidence, but So🦄ny Pictures is in early development on a new adaptation of the classic sitcom, which starred Elizabeth Montgomery.

The ser♕ies ran for eight seasons on ABC, from 1964 to 1972, and centered around Samantha (Montgomery), a witch who marries a mor𝓰tal named Darrin (Dick York and later Dick Sargent) as she tries to live an ordinary life as a suburban housewife. Her extraordinary powers were often the source of causing chaotic situations, but they were also sometimes used to fix those same situations and others.

Be⭕witched was a defining example of genre television. Its spinoff, Tabitha – which focused on Samantha and Darren’s daughter – ran for one season.

The new film comes from producers John Davis and John Fox (Dolemite Is My Name, Game Night) with a script written by Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett (12 M🔥onkeys, MacGyver). Co-showrunner of CBS series Star Trek: Picard, Matalas, has an overall deal at CBS. The Bewitched creative quartet is also developing the Witch Mountain remake for Disney Plus.

This is not the first time Sony has adapted Bew𝔉itched into a feature. In 2005, the studio released Bewitched, a romantic-comedy from writer-director Nora Ephron, starring Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell as actors playing Samantha and Darrin on a remake of the classic. It received mixed reviews from critics. Budgeted at $85 million, it achieved a worldwide gross of $131.4 million, considered disappointing.

More news to come as the Bewitched remake gets further along in the development stages. In the meantime, you can learn more about how Bewitched inspired an episode of WandaVision

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is taking on a villainous role in the upcoming romantic adventure comedy The Lost City of D, joining both 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Sandra Bullock and 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Channing Tatum in the movie. The film also stars Patti Harrison and ♍Da'Vine Joy Randolph.

Although Radcliffe is widely known for playing the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Harry Potter series hero, this will not be the actor’s first role that leans into the darker side – Radcliffe has played the bad guy in movies like Now You See Me 2. He also starred as a lawyer in the horror movie The Woman in Black, a sentient corpse in the bizarre comedy Swiss Army Man, and Frankenstein's assistant Igor in the sci-fi fantasy movie 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Victor Frankenstein

Perhaps one of Radcliffe's more bizarre roles was in Jason Lei Howden’s action comedy movie Guns Akimbo. He played a video game developer who inadvertently becomes the next participant in a real-life deathmatch that streams online – fighting for survival with guns in hand while simultaneously wearing a bathrobe and slippers. Radcliffe currently stars in TBS’ Miracle Workers – a series headed in🥃to its third season.

The Lost City will follow a reclusive romance novelist played by Sandra Bullock, who was sure nothing could be worse than getting stuck on a book tour with her cover model played by Tatum – that was until a kidnapping attempt sweeps them both into a cutthroat jungle adventure, proving life can be so mu🌱ch stranger than fiction.

Adam and Aℱaron Nee are set to direct a script penned by Dana Fox. Bullock will also produce under her Fortis Films ban💦ner alongside Liza Chasin for 3dot Productions and Seth Gordon for Exhibit A.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> Jon M. Chu is set to helm the mov๊iไe adaptation of hit musical Wicked, reports.

Wicked has been on Broadway for 17 consecutive years. It's been performed in over 100 cities and translated into six languages. The musical acts as a prequel to The Wizard of ﷺOz, telling the stories of the two witches – Elphaba, AKA the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, AKA the Good Witch. The pair start off as unlikely friends, but they struggle through opposing personalities and viewpoints and rivalry over the same love interest. In the original Broadway run, Elphaba was played by Idina Menzel and Glinda by Kristen Chenoweth.

The project has been in the pipeline for a while, with 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Billy Elliot director Stephen Daꦜldry leaving the project in fall 2020 after Universal wanted to get things going sooner rather than later. No c𒐪ast members have been announced yet, though.

Chu's previous projects include the 2018 rom-com Crazy Rich Asians starring Constance Wu and Henry Golding. Wicked won't be his first time at the musical rodeo, either – he also directed the upcoming movie adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's In the Heights. He recently 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:dropped out of the Willow TV show for Disney Plusꦯ, too – he was set to direct the pilot and executive produce the series, a sequel to the 1988 movie of the same name starring Warwick Davis.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> Armie Hammer has left his role in the upcoming action rom-com Shotgun Wedding, in which he was set 🐭to co-lead with Jennifer Lopez. The movie was supposed to stﷺart production immediately in the Dominican Republic.

Hammer has left the project after unverified images of private direct messages from the actor were posted on social media. In a statement, Hammer called the images "bullshit". A representative for the production said: “Armie has requested to step away from the film and we suppꦡort him in his decision.”

Shotgun Wedding will follow a couple who gather their families for the ultimate destination wedding, just when they both start getting cold feet about their relationship. As if that wasn’t stressful enough, the rom-com takes a turn when the entire party is taken hostage and their lives are suddenly all in danger. The movie is helmed by 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore, with a script co-written by New Girl showrunner Elizabeth Meriw✤eather. It’s set to▨ release on Amazon Prime.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> Everything is connected, including the NH✃MU – that’s the Netflix Holiday Movie Universe, for the uninitiated. As well as bringing us Vanessa Hudgens³, The Princess Switch: Switched Again also features one of the most ambitious cinematic crossover events in history, as pointed out by a keen pa꧃ir of eyes over at .

But first, some context: a sequel to Netflix's 2018 hit The Princess Switch, Switched Again sees lookalikes Duchess Margaret and Stacy (both played once again by Hudgens) swap places 𝓀in an attempt to fix their respective life problems – Margaret’s coronation is approaching and both her and Stacy are having relationship issues. However, they’re unknowingly under threat from a third lookalike, Margaret’s evil cousin Lady Fion♉a (also played by – you guessed it – Hudgens) who wants to steal the throne.

It’s Margaret’s coronation that we’re interested in, though – and more specifically, ๊the guests wh෴o are in attendance (and the question of how a duchess can be the heir to the throne...). We’ve seen two of them before, in another festive Netflix offering: Queen Amber and King Richard from A Christmas Prince (with their Royal Baby in tow).

Why is this significant? Well, in the first Princess Switch movie, we see Margaret watching none other than A Christmas Prince on TV. Now that we know the characters exist in the same universe, can we assume that the version watched by Margaret is a documentary? Or maybe a fictionalised prestige t🌄elevision event akin to𝓀 The Crown?

Another twist to the tale: Kat Graham’s character in Netflix’s The Holiday Calendar also watches A Christmas Prince, which seemingly places it within the same cinematic universe. Are we to assume thes🎀e worlds are connected, too? The🐬se are questions we need answers to, but luckily Netflix has already greenlit a Princess Switch 3. Phew.

If you’ve already exhausted the NHMU and you’re on the lookout for some more festive fun, we’ve compiled a list of the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best Christmas movies of all time.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> Hele🔜naꦺ Bonham Carter and Pierce Brosnan are set to lead the romcom Not Bloody Likely, based on the true story of the 1914 West End production of Pygmalion.

Brosnan will star as playwright George Bernard Shaw, who’s determined to get the great Mrs Pat Campbell, played by Bonham Carter, in his latest play in the lead role of൲ Eliza Doolittle (if that name sounds familiar, it’s because Pygmalion went on to be adapted into the Oscar-winning musical My Fair Lady). But is Pat’s casting just a chance for George to rekindle their romance?

“T♕his is exactly the kind of film the world needs right now. A feel-good story that will make you laugh and make you cry for the right reasons. We can’t wait to get started,” producers Adam Rolston and David Braithwaite 💮told .

Bonham Carter is currently playing Princess Margaret, Queen Elizabeth’s younger sister, in the award-winning Netflix series The Crown. She also recently starred in 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Enola Holmes alongside Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill. Meanwhile, Brosnan featured in Netflix’s 2020 release Eurovision Song Contest: The Story Of Fire Saga. He’ll also star in the upcoming Cinderella movie from the director of 2018 comedy 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Blockers, with singerღ Camila Cab꧟ello and Frozen’s Idina Menzel.

Joel Hopkins is on board to direct the movie and🀅 he’s written the screenplay too. Hopkins is no stranger to directing big names – he also took the helm on 2017’s Hampstead, which starred Diane Keaton and Brendan Gleeson.

Production on Not Bloody Likely is due to start in the UK early next year. While we wait, check out the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:best Netflix movies available right now.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> It was only a matter of time. 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has dropped tons of trai🅘lers, TV spots and clips over the last few months, most of which hone in on the conflict between the two superheroes. Well, now the team over at Wired has trawled through all of that footage to cook up a rather amusing riff on their squabble.

This superb piece of trai💝ler magic for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Just Us asks that all-important question: what if their frustration and angst was ♉actually.... masking their love for one another?

When you cut it like that, now I'm rooting for this darn pair! You've got to hand it to the Wire🦄d team, they clearly know the mechanics of trailers. Crafty edits and the use of a tinkling piano scor𒀰e work brilliantly, along with perhaps my favorite speech ever delivered in a movie - Ben Affleck's declaration of love in Chasing Amy. That really seals the deal.

Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Diane Lane, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Laurence Fishburne, and Amy Adams, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will aౠrrive in U♓K and US cinemas on March 25, 2016.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> The grey pound is still clearly a rich BO vein to be tapped judging by the desperate mugging of this farcical middle-aged caper.

Emma Thompson and Pierce Brosnan star as bickering/flirty exes who rope their neighbours (Celia Imrie and Timothy Spall, working hard) into a plot to steal a diamond from a dastardly businessman.

Recalling the woeful remake, The Love Punch makes a virtue of its leads’ considerable charm and gorgeous French locations but is tonally wonky, comedically creaky and confuses light-as-a-soufflé with just plain silly.

Bring on .

About Time , the latest romcom from genre figurehead Richard Curtis, has revealed a first trailer online.

Offering a softer spin on the time-travel conceit than the likes of and , the film introduces Domhnall Gleeson ( , ) as Tim, the youngest in a line of time-travellers (this being a Curtis film, Bill Nighy plays his dad).

Rachel McAdams adds a bit of Hollywood glamour as Mary, the girl Tim falls for. Using his time-jumping abilities, he’s able to woo her again and again ( -style) until he gets it right.

But it’s not all fun and games, as Tim comes to learn of the butterfly effects of jumping around too frivolously.

Check out the trailer below:

About Time opens in the UK on 6 September 2013.

The first poster for Grown Ups 2 has been revealed and you can check it out below. And in other Adam Sandler news, he and Drew Barrymore are set to rekindle their on-screen chemistry when they take the lead in an as-yet untitled romcom for Warner Bros.

Having already teamed-up on and , the duo will play a pair of singletons who embark upon a dis🔯astrous first date, only to find themselves in the same holiဣday resort with their respective children from previous relationships.

Sounds like a recipe for awkwardness to us. The film will be directed by Frank Coraci, who has previous form with Sandler and Barrymore, having worked with them on The Wedding Singer , before going on to work with Sandler on and high-concept comedy, .

Meanwhile, the new poster has emerged for Sandler’s reunion comedy sequel Grown Ups 2 (via ). Not that we want to put the boot in or anything, but it looks like a poorly photoshopped reject from the first film. You can take a loo🅰k for yourselves below…

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> Ah New Year’ꦏs Eve, a time for wearing silly hats, drinking too much, kissing strangers and paying too much for a taxi. According to Garry Marshall, it’s also a great night for living your dreams, following your heart and wishing upon a dozen Hollywood stars.

Following up schmooze-fest Valentine’s Day with another heart-shaped box of celebrity pick’n’mix, Marshall rings in 2012 wit🅰h a sticky-sweet parade of high-gloss New York love stories. Overstuffed with A-listers (some of whom look like they only put in half a day’s wor🤪k), it’s almost easier to name everyone who’s not in it.

Hilary Swank is the stressed exec in charge of the Times Square ball drop, Katherine Heigl is catering the aftershow party and Jon Bon Jovi is the headline act-slash-꧋unwelcome-ex.

Glee ’s Lea Michele is supposed to sing back-up but gets stuck in a lift withꦉ Ashton Kutcher’s grumpy hipster instead. A dying Robert De Niro wants to watch the fireworks but nurse Halle Berry won’t let him.

Pregnant Jessica Biel is trying to squeeze out the first baby of the New Year, Sarah Jessica Parker is an over-parenting mom, Josh Duhamel is stranded in the snow and Zac Efron is he🎉lping Michelle Pfeiffer tick off her bucket-list resolutions before meeting up with best bud Kutcher at Swank and Heigl’s party. Apparently, all the good-looking people know each other in New York.

Packed with meet cutes, second chances, teary dashes through snowy streets and even a sassy Latino stereotype, New Year’s Eve comes at you like a silly drunk demanding a hug.

A nice turn from Abigail Breslin as SJP’s daughter and some heart-toasting moments between Pfeiffer and Efron hel🐟p a couple of stories stand out from the all the glitter and fluff.

Every emotional string is shamelessly pulled, th🔯e signposted comedy is lighter than air… it’s just adorable. Sickeningly so.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> Why are you Fat? Will anyone ever love you? Are your ovaries shrivelling up inside you?

Anyone who’s flicked through Grazia lately will recognise these questions as the unit-shifting subtext of most women’s mags. Now one such poser has been transformed into the basis of this entertaining if formulaic romcom.

After reading an article that dooms women with 20-plus past lovers to spinsterhood, Ally (Anna Faris) hits on a plan; by reaching back into her ex-files she will find love and avoid upping her “number”.

She enlists the help of neighbour Colin (Chris Evans, still flaunting that Captain America bod) to track down her past beaus. An amateur investigator and man-slag, Colin, needless to say, wears his own promiscuity much more lightly than Ally.

You can forgive the script for sidestepping the meaty gender politics, but it’s a shame there aren’t more scene-stealing cameos among Ally’s parade of former boyfriends.

Martin Freeman’s friendly face pops up as her charming English ex, but doesn’t get to do much, instead flanking Faris while she performs a bad British accent tour de force that provides the film’s largest laugh.

Truth be told, you can tell Number will end up with an average score in the opening scene. Ally sneaks out of bed to fix her make up, so she might appear naturally beautiful when her boyfriend wakes. It’s an amusing enough, “We’ve all been there, girls” observation, except we saw that one already, when Kristen Wiig’s character did the exact same thing in Bridesmaids. It forces a comparison, and Faris, sadly, comes off worse.

It’s not that she isn’t fun🍬ny, lively and likeable. But when it comes to playing the kind of everywoman that romcom roles require, her clownish, physical humour is just too big for the box.

In the closing moments, a classic Faris pratfall reminds us why we love her, but by then expectations of this film being, you know, “the one”, have long faded.

Anne Hathaway has been offered the lead role in an as-yet-untitled romcom, based on a script by 30 Rock writer-producer Kay Cannon.

Peter Sollet ( Nick And Norah's Infinite Playlist ) is in negotiations to direct the movie, which will be Hathaway's Dark Knight Rises follow-up, should she sign on.

Anything will sound like a bit of a disappointment coming straight after Nolan's Bat-threequel, but Hathaway has proven time and time again that she makes for an extremely engaging romcom lead ( Bride Wars notwithstanding), and her star status should ensure she's getting the pick of the best scripts out there.

There are a couple more grains of hope in that news. Hopefully Cannon will bring some of 30 Rock 's smarts, sass and snappy one-liners to the script, and Nick And Norah had more charm and cool than your average genre offering.

Cannon recently wrote the script for Pitch Perfect , the a cappella comedy with Anna Kendrick attached to star.

Hathaway has recently been linked to Tom Hooper's big screen take on Les Miserables , but nothing's been confirmed on that front yet.

You have to wait until 20 July 2012 to see her interpretation of Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises .

Anna Kendrick is in talks to star in romcom Pitch Perfect , according to The Hollywood Reporter .

Set 'in the world of collegiate a cappella groups,' the Universal project is based on a non-fiction book by Mickey Rapkin.

Kendrick will play a rebellious goth, angry that her father is a professor at her school, until she realises she has a hitherto undiscovered singing voice and becomes the star of the a cappella group.

She won't be acting 'unaccompanied' though (sorry), with Bridesmaids ' Rebel Wilson (Matt Lucas' character's horrid sister) already signed up.

Kendrick has been stealing scenes in supporting roles for some time now, in Up In The Air and Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World , and she's survived the Twilight franchise with her dignity intact.

Before Pitch Perfect , we'll see her in Joseph Gordon-Levitt's cancer comedy 50/50 , Breaking Dawn parts 1 & 2 and What To Expect When You're Expecting .

50/50 opens on 6 January 2012.

<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ AU in Rom-coms ]]> A once-great chef (Dougray Scott) trades in London for the countryside in an effort to get his culinary mojo back in James Hacking’s slight but appealing romcom.

There’s not much in the way of suspense – will he succeed against the odds and transform the dreary local into a glossy gastropub? Will he learn to make love not war with Claire Forlani’s sassy foodie?

But the sharp script, Scott’s charismatic lead and Simon Callow’s enjoyably scenery-chewing turn as sozzled critic Guy Witherspoon make up for the more predictable elements. Warm, sweet and undemanding, this is top cinematic comfort food.
