Atari planning re-remake of '80s classic Warlords

Atari Europe has formed an alliance with Griptonite Games to develop a Warlords remake for PSN and XBLA. Relax, you haven't slipped back in time; this is in fact the second official remake of the (popular?) 1980s Atari 2600 multiplayer title to hit modern consoles, and one that looks to be shooting f▨or a vastly different style t♎han Stainless Games' 2008 attempt.

Taking its ꦚgameplay cues from Breakout, Warlords tasks players with defending their castle from invading minions and wayward fireballs by deflecting them with a perimeter shield and using various power-ups to gain a number of abilities and advantages. Griptonite Games will be adding an extra layer of interactivity by including troops which can be deployed to collect the aforementioned power-ups or capture strategic ✱control points.

Featured modes in Griptonite's remake include Protect the Stronghold, the standard "don't-get-hit-with-a-fireball🅠" game; siege modes; co-op levels; and multiplayer free-for-all b𒅌attles, which pit up to four people against each other in an all-out war for supreme, uh, Warlordome...or something.

Warlords is expected to lay siege to PSN and XBLA stores this Summer.
